The cruise to Orre was rather nice. Nothing fancy, and you may not have slept well, but otherwise was more than passable. Still, stepping back onto dry land feels amazing. Gateon... What all was there here for you? The brochure on the boat said that this place was pretty relaxed as far as Orre goes. There were beaches to relax on, sights like the Krabby Club (which has become an icon of the city, having existed for over sixty years) and a large battle square where trainers duke it out to see who is the strongest trainer that day. There's a Gym that apparently extends down to one of the trenches that's just off shore. It's owner apparently is also the head engineer at the wind farm that you passed coming in. Before you are a large amount of stands, mostly selling touristy items depicting Orre or Gateon.

Nathan
You seem to 'wake up' in a bit of a daze. The music at the Krabby Club, while not your particular favorite type, was still captivating enough for you to have lost track of time after you had breakfast. Your watch reads 11:13. Two hours!? At least you weren't in a rush, right?

Bruler
You hear a loud bellow, and wake. Bruler looks over at a clock by his bed. 11...something. That red eye flight in was a killer, didn't get to the Center until 3am. Outside you can hear another bellow. Some Muker had his mon using Hyper Voice in a battle. Or Uproar. Whatever it was, it was too Muking loud.

Jason
You finish your daily inspection and cleaning of your arm, which mostly consists of taking a can of compressed air to every nook and cranny of the thing to get dust out. Off in yonder distance is the battle square. A loud bellow jolts you from your focused work, but only momentarily. A small buzzer goes off on your mobile device of choice, 11:00 flashing on its screen. What did you make a reminder for again?

Lisa
You wake at around 10:30, enjoying sleeping in after your final day in school. You can hear your aunt calling you down for breakfast.

UGH! Someone's trying to sleep here! Burler rolls out of bed, falling face first onto the floor, entangling his legs in the covers. Cursing under his breath he tries to free himself, giving up after about 10 seconds of effort. He crawls over to where he threw his pants last night, grabbing Rakifi's pokeball, releasing the ape.

Rolling over, defeated, he mutters. Could you help Rafiki? The ape giggles till Burler gives him a defeated look. The ape nimbly removes Burler's legs from the covers and hands him his pants. Burler works his pants on, staying on the ground for better leverage. Standing up, he grabs the shirt casually tossed on the foot of the bed and pulls it on. C'mon Rafiki. Lets see who's being loud and obnoxious. He hurries out of his room, Monferno on his tail trying to get his attention. His shirt was on backwards.

Owen, not really one for sentiment, passes by the silly little stands. Who actually bought that stuff anyway? The beach might be nice, see if he could catch a water pokemon or something, and the Krabby Club sounded like a place he could get info, but right now he had no need for info. Best just to get to work. It was time to see what work needed to be done.

Owen heads off into town, looking for the police station. See how receptive the locals would be. Bosses made this sound like a tough assignment, like it was hell itself. Honestly, the wilds of Almia were far more dangerous than this place. Half the stuff was probably hearsay anyway.

Owen
Despite the large crowds in some parts and getting lost only twice, you manage to find the police station, a simple building that overlooks the battle square from atop a small hill. As you enter, a tired man looks up from a desk. "Name and buisiness?"

Bruler
You manage to track down the sound to the battle square, unsurprisingly. Two guys, probably around your age, are battling, a Chansey against a Loudred.

Burler's agitation disappears completely when he sees the battle. He takes a position next to the battle, out of range of any attacks he hopes, scanning the battlers. He takes note of the two trainers as well.

Owen takes a badge out of a secret pocket on his coat. Couldn't let someone find him with that on him. He ejects the styler disc from his watch and places that and the badge on the desk.

'Price, Ranger, from Almia. One of your higher ups should be expecting me.'

Nathan groggily gets himself off of the couch he slept on...at least it was comfortable, and stretches.

He looks around, and sees his pokemon crashed around the room as well...except for Allegro, who was sleeping in the half-filled bathtub.

...what had happened at the club last night anyway?

He collects them all, grabs a bite to eat, and wanders outside, one earbud in, listening to something rousing as he sees what is going on in the world.

Nathan
Your wandering spots you a few things, most fairly uninteresting. however, you also spot a well dressed man and a man who you feel you really should know who he was, both heading to the square, the latter with an irritable look on his face.

Owen
He grumbles something about rangers under his breath, probably rude, but you can't make it out quite. "Wes ain't here. Got a call and took off in a huff. Think to the square."

Bruler
The two seem to be around your age. Still, something about them was different. Actually, it was the same thing about most people here. They all looked a bit healthier, more acute, than the average person from home, or anywhere else you've been. Better looking on average too.

Jason
It wasn't labeled. Apparently you thought you would know what for when you made it. Oh well, must not be too important if you can't remember, right?

Jason
You find a trainer to battle with, a girl with a large butterfly behind her (it scans as Beautifly), your arm initially being what draws her attention. "How does a three mon battle sound? No burrowing, cieling at 5m high?"

Burler
A man in a sailor's uniform takes your challenge. "I ain't got any problem with flight or burrowing. Do you?"

Owen
The man seems too tired to hear your response. As you head back down to the square, you can just make out the man you're looking for, Wes, coming from the other end of the city. He doesn't look half bad for apparently being nearly 70. Still fairly fit, stark white hair, just a few more wrinkles compared to the picture of him shortly after taking down Cipher. There's something odd on his arm...is that the Snag Machine he used?

Everyone but the obligatory girl
As your battles are getting started, there is a sudden silence as the chief of Orrean police steps into the center of the square, opposite a man that none of you know, though Nathan recognizes him from earlier.

"Wesley Helgonza, I challenge you to a full battle."

Wes noticeably bites his lip, then nods. "I accept your challenge." Out come two Pokémon from both sides, a Meganium and an Umbreon from Wes, a Golurk and a Ferrothorn from the mystery man. Both of his team go first, the Meganium taking a solid Ice Punch, but holding strong, the Ferrothorn tossing large spikes out onto the field.

Wes's team responds, the Meganium spreading an unusual powder on the Ferrothorn that causes it to rithe in pain, the Umbreon leaping on the Golurk, dodging its hits as it tries to beat it off of its face. A particularly nasty hit causes the mon to KO itself, and it is quickly replaced with a Conkledurr. (This is all cinematic in the background for most of you, though you will get scans from it. Also, two perception rolls from everyone.)

Owen shakes his head and shrugs. Why did these people resist the authority of Rangers, when they let themselves be looked after by a thief? He might be strong, but that wasn't much. He was born in Viridian, where arguably the strongest gym leaders gathered. And the town still had bitter memories of Giovanni. Why would they knowingly let a criminal lead them? Didn't they know what could happen? Tch, stupid Orreans.

Owen takes a look at the closest thing he had to a boss. Lets see how well the guy fairs.

"Sure, sounds good to me." As you look over at the man, you spot him adjust something on his glasses, which your mechanical expertise gauges as a small camera.

"Yep. Foul Play is a nasty move on something that strong. Did you see that move the Meganium used? Itching Powder. My brother did that for him while be was on leave from Ikaite. Small bit of surgery on its poison glands, changed them to a more caustic powder."

Nathan
Your battle music is interrupted momentarily by a quiet but distinct click that comes from the man as he adjusts his glasses.

Non-Oversleepers
The battle rages on. The Conkledurr quickly launches a punch at the Umbreon, but the black canine is fast, grabbing the fist and flinging the Conkledurr backwards over its head, KOing it with a powerful Counter. It looks very, very worn out from that, though. It isn't likely that it could take much more of that.

The Meganium lets out a cry, and the mid-morning sun grows even hotter. The Ferrothorn digs its claws into the ground, trying to keep some energy flowing in to counteract the Burn.

The Conkledurr is swapped for a bizarre looking, flaming chandelier Pokémon. (Chandelure)

"Leaf, tear them apart!" The Meganium steps forward, setting of a shockwave through the ground, cracking the Chandelure's glass and disrupting the Ferrothorn.

"Burn it to cinders!" The Chandelure sets off a carefully aimed wave of flames, but even then, they seem to roll right over the Meganium, not even harming it. (He rolled a 5, even with a +11 from targeting he failed)

"Heal up, Shadow." The area dims for a second, the blazing hot sun being the only thing clearly visible, like a giant moon in the day sky. As the rest of the light returns, the Umbreon looks nearly unharmed. It is backed away, in preparation for what was next.

The Ferrothorn tackles Leaf, doing a little damage.

"Leaf, Shadow Blaze." The Grass type lines up both Pokémon, covering them in black flames, boosted by the sunlight but unhindered by the Chandelure's flame immunity. Wes gives a smile and nod to Leaf after the attack. The Umbreon does nothing, lacking an enemy to attack. The man sends out his last two Pokémon, a Jellicent and Reuniclus.

The flames quickly fizzle out. "I dunno, kinda. This is the best he's done all week. Bubble, little guy." The Frillish hops forward rather feebly, spraying bubbles at your Vulpix. They deal 22 Special Water damage and also lower your speed.

And that wraps that up
The battle ends quickly.

"Shadow, Faint Attack!" The Reuniclus holds up to the blow well enough, retaliating with a Signal Beam, which does a number on it. The two trade attack after attack. As soon as the Reuniclus looks like it will go down, the man yells out an order. "Recover and regenerate!" The Reuniclus seems to completely restore itself.

Meanwhile, Leaf and the Jellicent duke it out, the two tanky Pokémon not landing a deciding blow. "Ice Beam!" "Petal Dance!" "Shadow Ball!" "Keep it up!" "Recover!" As the attacks get traded off, Leaf seems like he'll wear out first. The Meganium is clearly sweating. That is sweat, right? No, too green to be sweat, even for a grass type...

"Frenzy Plant!" And the field erupts into a tangled mess of large, violently swinging vines, scratching and beating the two Pokémon, and nearly hitting a few observers who were too close to the fight. The vines thrash about for almost a minute before receding into the earth. Both the Reuniclus and the Jellicent are very clearly unconscious. Leaf is recalled, and Shadow follows his trainer back to the station.

Bruler
As your fight goes on, it is interrupted by the loud crash of the ground being ripped apart due to Leaf's Frenzy Plant. As you watch the last of the fight, you notice the challenger click a small device on his glasses. With the silence of the rest of the crowd, you can just make out a few words. "Hm...far stronger than expected. Not as much data as I'd like...but enough."
The man who challenged Wes then heads off, a small crowd of people following him, asking him questions such as why he challenged the chief of police.

Turning back to the girl, he gives a nod and says, "I thank you for waiting... I'll be leading with Zenoir, if you're ready. Tell Rui I might not be home for a few days, if this takes me out of region." He gets a nod, and guides you into his office.

"Sorry, other business. Let's see...Owen Price. Ah, you're the ranger boy they sent here. Good. Well as you know, your kind aren't exactly welcome here. I've been working to change that, but we're meeting with some resistance, primarily in the desert cities like Obsidian. Then, when he has it all, he throws it all away because his Scyther died in a bust. Rather than learn from his mistake, he starts acting like an Arceus Judged vigilante again. Now the sorry little has-been gets shipped off to Orre (because the guy who brought him into the Rangers was looking out for his spoiled little ass), and rather than try to get on and make a new start for himself, he starts insulting the one thing that happened in this region that is seen as a ARCEUS MUKING JUDGED MIRACLE." Companion
At-Will
Trigger:: You successfully restrain a wild Pokemon with the Styler.
Effect: Give the Pokemon the Companion title. You may only have one Companion at a time. If you give a new Pokemon the Companion title, you free the other Pokemon and replace it with your new Companion. To make the wild a Companion you must sacrifice half an hour upon giving it the Companion title to bond with the wild. This process starts the Companion at Loyalty 2 at least and obedient towards the Ranger, regardless of circumstances before Befriending. The Companion gains experience and levels exactly like a Captured Pokemon, as well as counting as Owned for the purposes of levels and features, but cannot participate in official battles or contests (doing so is fraud). The Pokemon cannot be returned to a poke ball and it costs 150 credits to heal at a Pokemon center. Companions are considered Helpful, but act in combat as if they were owned.

Once the Frillish was calm, and trusted them, he takes it to the nearest Centre.

I would think that you could better advise us on how to leverage our Pokemon's strengths, what moves might be best to teach them, and so on. A young man shows you all in, and escorts the three would-be kidnappers away. Fortunately or unfortunately, Wes is nowhere to be found.

It seems whatever laws around vigilantism existed in your home regions, Orre was far more lax, so long as nothing got too far and the person is brought in alive afterwards. Nobody questions your jumping in to help the woman, and nobody mentions anything such as "Well they still did commit assault, technically." After the goons are questioned, Prof. Umbra is given what the police could get out of the people. They were asked by an unknown group to bring Prof. Umbra to them, preferably unharmed and definitely alive. They intended to take her from her room late at night, but one of them got hasty, spotted her in town, and the rest is rather apparent from there. They were supposed to drop her off in Obsidian at a bar called Blaze Kick. A group of officers was already being sent to investigate the local.

But you're all interested, which is good. I'll talk to Mr. Ryuto about sending something down for you all. No way am I sending you off on foot. Meet me at the gym tomorrow around 9. I should have something by then. You're all free to do what you wish until then."

If I show them they might shun me for being a freak but if I don't show them and the find out later they would assume I don't trust them and that would just cause problems."

Ra just sits their and gives lisa a look that says you know what you need to do so stop being afraid of it and just get it done. "You're right, I'll call them as soon as we're done here."

-Hey! Sorry man! Had to take a leak, was a slow day, figured nobody would come by!- The voice of a guy comes on over a speaker and a lift that you didn't previously notice opens. -Not much up there for ya. If you wanted to challenge Harr or just visit the plant, just take a step onto the lift.-

Gone Fishin'
Burler, being the new owner of the rod, casts off first. You don't get much at first, but eventually you feel a tug on the rod. Out of the water comes a blue and green fish, snapping angrily at you. (No map for this one)

I GOT A 3!!!
You head out of town quite a ways. No way would it have been safe for you to go that far from town in Phenac! After about half an hour, you stumble across an odd hill. Your Chinchou pauses and gives a call out to let you know to pause for a moment. It calls out several times at the hill, then sprays it with water. What on earth was- Hey, there's something coming out of it! Out comes a small bird, covered in multicolored feathers and...scales? And then another crawls out. And another. And a fourth. They space their selves around the entryway, the one atop the hill cawing angrily at you. It looked like it was slightly soaked.

Lisa looks at the strange creatures before her and decides that maybe letting Nu spray them with water was a bad idea "Okay, so maybe spraying you guys was a bad idea, but what are you?" She carefully withdraws her pokedex from her pocket trying to not incite the strange birds in front of her. When it's clear she scans them and slowly advances next to Nu. "Don't strike unless they attack first. We don't know what they are and therefor we have no idea what their strength level is."

Lisa moves to B9 and scans the mon, doing her best not to incite any aggressive responses from the birdies.

Archen, the First Bird Pokémon

(†) All data herein is from lab specimens revived in Nacrene, Unova.

Said to be an ancestor of bird Pokémon, they were unable to fly and moved about by hopping from one branch to another. When severely injured, they often become cowardly and try to flee.

As you watch them, the one atop the hill screeches at you. Your presence there seems to be agitating to them. A few of them take steps toward you.

While your burst of air misses (if only just), your Rufflet's Wing Attack strikes true, a satisfying crack emanating from the Archen's ribcage. The Archen cries out as your Rufflet pecks at its back, pulling feathers. It doesn't look to be in good condition at all. Still good enough, however, to rake it's claws across your Rufflet's face for 37 Physical, Dragon damage.

The Gym
As you enter the lift, the gate automatically closes behind you and you descend into the complex. Your scanner picks up dozens of wilds around you, though there are no windows to reveal what species they are. After about 5 minutes of what feels like a fairly rapid descent, the lift comes to a slow halt and opens. Contrasting with the messy looking entryway, everything down here was surprisingly well cared for. It wasn't beautiful by any sense of the word, with large bundles of wire covering the cieling and walls, but it had a clearly maintained feeling to it. Several workers are visible walking around the area. One who doesn't seem too busy calls out to you. "Hey, you looking for Har or to challenge one of the workers? Regular tours are closed today."

I was just looking out for you. You act like you've never seen a wild before. I know wilds are new to Orre but I didn't that new.

Burler plops down on the sand, rubbing his temples. Ok look. I'm from the Survival Area in Sinnoh. You may not have heard of it, but as the name suggests, its not an easy place to live. Its a small little town cut off from the mainland and even from most civilization of the rest of the island. Only the strongest trainers venture that far deep into the wilderness. And I grew up there. The wilds there are strong. And mean. They don't take kindly to humans invading on their turf. I only ever went out into the wilds with my Grandfather when he went exploring with Gym Leaders. I know wild pokemon. I know some are friendly. Fluer here followed me home after one trip into the wilds and snuck into my room. But the Feebas clearly attacked you. I just didn't want you to get hurt.

Nathan stops the music he had playing and blinks. That first thing was an attack? I thought it was just a breeze. I've not seen that many honestly. It was when I was growing up that they really became common enough for people to start catching them heavily. My dad told me about the first wild he ever caught, and that was after I was born.

He pauses as he thinks about the rest. Look, Orre isn't a friendly place either, but it's different here. It's not the Pokemon; it's the people. You don't get very far if you let other people steal what you see as yours, even if it isn't. I try to be laid back, but you're going to get people who will pick a fight just to avoid looking weak. Look, we can battle over this fish if you want, and I'll even breed it for you if I win.
