Paladin variant and using wands?

I was looking at making a Paladin and using a variant, essentially forgoing spell casting for bonus feats, anyways can he still use a wand without having to use UMD skill since he does not get spells.

Sorry, you're going to have to put ranks in UMD. The variants that remove spellcasting from a paladin explicitly say that spell completion and spell trigger items are no longer automatically useable.

In essence, you're giving up the spell-list as part of the spellcasting class feature.
