Fimbulfrost Eidolons are the living manifestations of ice ages, born from the swirling cold that lies outside the planes. Some claim them native to a void of utter cold deep within the Far Planes, though no firm connection to the Plane of Madness has been made. They are drawn to the warmth of the planes–even the coldest depths of the multiverse are warm compared to the truly heatless demesne where the eidolons hail from. The seek to extinguish all warmth, reducing all worlds to a state of absolute zero. Other creatures of cold and ice are drawn to them, though the eidolons consider them no different from any other life–they are things to be destroyed. A Fimbulfrost Eidolon takes the form of a swirling pillar of ice, whirling like a tornado. Four tentacles of frost extend from it like malevolent limbs. It can contort the ice of its body to take on most any form, from a massive, comet-like dragon to a single massive icicle jutting into the air like a mighty tower.

Combat
In combat, a Fimbulfrost Eidolon is content to let its absolute winter ability do most of its work, picking off creatures with no effort. It will attempt to charge or engulf any creature that presents a real threat, while using its quickened cone of cold spell-like ability to harass other creatures. Should a Fimbulfrost Eidolon find itself in real danger of being destroyed, it will attempt to escape using its rimewalk ability.

Absolute Winter (Su)
A Fimbulfrost Eidolon generates an aura of utter cold, a 60 ft. radius emanation centered on itself. Each round, all creatures in the aura takes 10d6 points of cold damage, Fortitude DC 32 for half. If, in any one round, a creature takes cold damage equal to half its current hp or greater from this aura, it must make a second save or die. This damage ignores resistance, but not immunity, to cold. Any water that enters the aura is automatically frozen solid. The aura puts out any flame brought in it automatically, and it is impossible to deal fire damage within it by any means short of direct intervention by a deity or a major artifact. The cold is so great that even magical or psionic energy is frozen, making it impossible to cast spells or manifest powers, with a few exceptions. The aura functions line an antimagic or null psionics field. However, spells, spell-like abilities, or powers with the [cold] descriptor and supernatural abilities of creatures with the cold subtype are not affected. If a Fimbulfrost Eidolon is reduced to 0 hp or less, its aura of cold automatically deactivates until it reaches 1 hp or higher. It cannot otherwise deactivate this ability. The saves are Cha based.

Engulf (Ex)
A Fimbulfrost Eidolon can mow down Gargantuan or smaller creatures as a standard action. It cannot make a slam attack during a round in which it engulfs. The eidolon merely has to move over the opponents, affecting as many as it can cover. Opponents can make attacks of opportunity against the eidolon, but if they do so they are not entitled to a saving throw. Those who do not attempt attacks of opportunity must succeed on a DC 40 Reflex save or be engulfed; on a success, they are pushed back or aside (opponent’s choice) as the eidolon moves forward. Engulfed creatures are considered to be grappled and trapped within the eidolon’s body. They automatically fail any saves against the eidolon’s absolute winter ability made while entangled. The save DC is Strength-based.

Form of Frost (Su)
A Fimbulfrost Eidolon is formed from deathly cold ice. A Fimbulfrost Elemental’s slam attacks deal an additional 1d10 points of cold damage. In addition, a creature that hits a Fimbulfrost Eidolon with a natural weapon, touch attack, or unarmed strike automatically takes 1d10 cold damage, as does a manufactured weapon that hits a Fimbulfrost Eidolon.

Spell-Like Abilities
At will–cone of cold (DC 20), ice storm, sleet storm, wall of ice; 3/day–empowered cone of cold (DC 20), freezing sphere (DC 21); 1/day–polar ray. Caster level 15th. Saves are Cha based.

Rimewalk (Su)
As a standard action, a Fimbulfrost Eidolon can teleport to any location it is familiar with. Distance is not a limitation, and it can even teleport to extraplanar locales. After it teleports away, the space it used to occupy is covered with a slick rime of ice, which persists for 1d10 minutes. Any creature attempting to move through the ice must attempt a DC 30 Balance check. The save is Cha based. If it fails, it falls prone. Even if it succeeds, it can only move at half speed through the rime. Once a Fimbulfrost Eidolon has used this ability, it cannot use it again for 1d4 hours.

Wow...that's...c-c-c-cold.

As I'm very fond of all the norse mythos involved in the whole concept of Fimbulwinter, I like it. A bunch.

I'm having some definite trouble visualizing just what the heck this thing is supposed to be...I was picturing it as a stable pillar of solid ice, but then I saw it had a fly speed and pictured it more as a tornado. Probably more my problem.

All in all, it's a tasty creature in the underserved arena of very high-level opponents. Huzzah!

Think a tornado of hail, though it has some control over its form.
