So a bunch of my buddies back home are playing a Pathfinder campaign, and want me to join their campaign next time I am home. Right now the starting build is a level 10 character with 80,000gp. I know very little about making Pathfinder characters, and only have the Core rUlebook and the Advanced Players Handbook.

In terms of what I want to do? The party already has 9 players, each one has 2-3 characters who they switch between (it is a guild, and they are all members, and different ones go on different quests etc.)

Preferably I would prefer to be a class that is not in 3.5, new experiences. I feel that it would be good to get a feel for new class types, although I can easily be tempted to play a class available in 3.5, simply because Pathfinder is different and such lol.

Thanks!

It all depends on what type of class you enjoy playing. A neat PF class, if you are into divine casting, is the Oracle. At level 10, I think a lot of the cool stuff from the curse function starts coming into play.

if you want different, there is the summoner class. You basically are a secondary caster focusing on buffing and get a SLA summon monster spell. The cornerstone of the class is it's eidolon feature though. Basically it's a personal minion that only you get and you can shape it into any form you want. It gets a resource called "evolution points" that are accumulated at level up. You can spend these evo points on customizing your eidolon. Anything from extra heads, to arms, to wings, to make it bigger... seriously take a look at the options they have. The class is the most unique class in pathfinder, and there is a lot you can do with it.

Otherwise, other fun and different classes that are available are...
- alchemist: odd take on non traditional casters, focus on creating zany items
- inquisitor: divine ranger/hunter (more holy than nature divine for you sticklers)
- oracle: it's a divine sorcerer
- sandman archetype bard: use bardic preformance to steal spells. also has a very roguish bent

my advice is if you want different, take a longer look at the APG. It gets a lot fancier with the existing classes as well as providing some real unique gems.

While PF does give us new classes, the re-worked base classes like the sorcerer with bloodlines and the new paladin I think are definitely worth looking in to. And if you want even more options check here http://www.d20pfsrd.com/ they have pretty much everything on there.

Also, its in the Ultimate Magic book but can be found on the SRD is the Magus. It's PF's gish in a can and a lot of people really like it. It's an improved Duskblade really, lets you TWF with weapon and spell, they have crazy nova ability.

Also worth checking out is all the archetypes for base classes. While there are some sub-par options there are many good ones, like taking the Oath of Vengeance as a Paladin and being able to use lay on hands uses to power more smite evils.

I think I am definitely going with summoner! What ideas are there regarding that? (is there a way to increase the amount of evolution points you get?)

there is one feat that gives you more evo points, but it's inefficient (one point per feat)

Your eidolon can be whatever you want, you can even model it after something if it suits you (dragon is a funny one here)

here. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/summoner/eidolons this will give you a full breakdown of the eidolon and what it can get. Otherwise you would probably have to flip through a few books to get everything.

as for interesting combos, I like to make the eidolon a more skillmonkey type character. You can use your scaling summon monster for combat, eidolon for skillmonkey purposes, and you provide the spellcasting.

This isn't going into

You can also get more Evolution points by being a Half-Elf and using their special racial favored class bonus (instead of +1 hp or +1 skill per level, they get +1 Evolution point every 4 levels). There's also the Half-Elf racial archetype for summoners, the Wild Caller, that also gets +1 Evolution points every 4 levels, but limits which evolutions you can choose. Combine both for an effective +1 Evolution point every other level (because of the way they are worded).

I'm currently playing this build in a solo game and having a really good time. My Eidolon is getting pretty powerful very quickly.

From that first link, it appears that you get 1/4 evo points in addition to the +1hp or skills point, not instead of

No. You choose a single favored class bonus every time you level.

Huh? They're listed as favored class "options", not additions.

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/character-advancement

Each race page includes a set of alternative benefits that characters of that race may choose instead of the normal benefits for their favored class. Thus, rather than taking an extra hit point or an extra skill rank, players may choose for their characters to gain the benefit listed here. This is not a permanent or irrevocable choice; just as characters could alternate between taking skill ranks and hit points when they gain levels in their favored class, these benefits provide a third option, and characters may freely alternate between them.

I enjoy brood master (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/summoner/archetypes/paizo---summoner-archetypes/broodmaster) summoner its basically an archtype that gives you multiple smaller eidolons instead of a large one and split the points between them higher lvls= more eidolons or 2 large ones or 1 medium 2 small or however you want to split up your own personal army. see the link for the specifics I have a kobold in one of my campaigns that rides a dragon with 2 smaller ones that trail after him its pretty funny.

There are spells like lesser evolution surge (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/e/evolution-surge) which give evolution points. There are items like wands which you can use to cast spells. It may only be for a few minutes at a time, but PF has anticipated your request.

Are you limited to content from only the books you have? Because if you want to access additional content, all of Pathfinder's Core content is available on http://www.d20pfsrd.com/ freely. It would allow you to check out the Gunslinger (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/gunslinger), Magus (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/magus) and Witch (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/witch), which are in my opinion the classes introduced by Pathfinder with the most unique mechanics when compared to 3.5.
