New Thread! IT LIVES!

Tyreal's mind wanders back and forth between rambling madness and feeble struggles against his chains as he is dragged back. In moments of lucidity he finds himself going towards the temple of Teron Gorefiend. He manages to stabilize his mind about halfway through the trip but is unable to communicate this to Ariebth who has had him gagged.

The main room of the temple is mostly empty, there are about 5 hemlites tending to rituals and praying and two strangers in guard uniforms that Tyreal doesn't recognize

When back to the temple Tyreal is examined by a Hemlite who states that Tyreal's mental state is fine. Ariebth apologizes to Tyreal for the rough ride and the gag.

Ariebth turns to Tyreal, I am sure that you have much to tell us about the encounter but let us resurrect Ryenos first. His details will be important, especially who sent him and why.

Desther strides into the room with a sour expression on his face, I hope you will be issuing a warrant for his arrest Ariebth once we get him back. The beast that killed 5 of my Hemlites and several guards should not be allowed to just walk around freely. Teron Gorefiend would be displeased if I let my friends death go unpunished.

Ariebth glares at him, You know he wasn't in control. We are resurrecting him to find out who was. You anger is misdirected. Ariebth pulls out a large diamond and a scroll and casts the resurrection. Desther looks on slightly angry.

If Tyreal wishes to say anything he can. Ariebth can't respond while casting but others could.

"....you do know he was turned into a vampire? And how that process affects someone mentally?" Tyrael says sarcastically to Desther. "Anyways, Aribeth, I am also curious to find out about what happened to Ryenos. I take it you believe he will remember his undead experience, unlike me when I was turned?"

Demidos

One of the strangers (http://www.consupport.com/genconindy2004/images/marshal_hennet.jpg) looks between the enraged Desther and the enraged Tyreal and speaks out, his voice soft and mellow as honey.

"Let him grieve, Tyreal. His grief does him credit. If we did not mourn our dead, we would be worse than the undead, for they at least have not the capacity for it."

The other one nods.

"Grief is a sentient emotion", booms the giant (http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/5909/zasalamel.jpg) in agreement. Although human sized, his rippling muscles and obvious physicality seems to dwarf the others in the room. Beneath his hood, you can just barely distiguish his strong nose and cruel mouth, the upper half of his face being entirely covered. The spikes on his armor gleam in the reflected light of the room.

Silva Stormrage
2013-02-02, 03:54 PM
Desther smiles towards the two strangers, Yes I agree. The loss of their wisdom was a great blow to the Hemlites. Also the law states that even if he became undead he still is responsible for his actions regardless of being controlled or not.

Road_Runner
2013-02-02, 03:56 PM
Tyrael turns to the newcomers. "Yes, grief is important. As long as any desires of vengeance are aimed where they are deserved, not at those who were not in control of themselves. Do I know you?" he says, looking quizzically at the newcomers.

Demidos
2013-02-02, 04:07 PM
The first stranger shakes his head, then bows.

Bartok Leafstaff, at your service. And this masterpiece of physicality beside me is Angmar Barrelsson.

I also go by Angel, if you prefer. corrects the giant.

Bartok laughs gently.
Angmar takes his job too seriously. Aribeth pulled us from different assignments to fill out your team.

Silva Stormrage
2013-02-02, 04:14 PM
Desther nods, I have heard good work from you two. I assume you have been briefed on your mission already with the group? If so we should probably wait for Ariebth to finish the spell resurrecting the bird. She can give you further instructions.

Road_Runner
2013-02-02, 04:14 PM
Tyrael looks at Desther but makes no comment on his reference to the "bird". He turns to the newcomers. "Hello, I am Tyrael. Glad to have more help," he says, inclining his head.

Silva Stormrage
2013-02-02, 07:46 PM
Ariebth finishes the resurrection spell and assuming Ryenos wishes to be ressurected his soul is called back to the world of the living.

Ariebth speaks somewhat wearily after casting that spell, Glad to see you back Ryenos. I apologize but we need to ask you a few questions now. First of all what is the last memory that you recall. If you remember everything I will need a full debrief. Why were you in the prison, who were you being controlled by, etc.

Road_Runner
2013-02-02, 11:45 PM
Ryenos sits in a daze for a second. "Yes..... I remember everything. I was under the control of a vampire named Sonia. She sent me to go find people for her minions. She needed 15 vampires to kill in a ritual that would make her more powerful and allow her to remember her memories from when she was alive. She was also after Shinon... she wanted to kill him so she could take his animating black stone, and drop the quarantine. She already had been borrowing the stone to animate, but wanted it for herself. I was involved in the prison attack because she wanted me to kill Kyngos for a powerful minion. I was reasonably successful in attaining several minions before that. I can't believe all the people I killed..." Ryenos seems kind of sad.

Silva Stormrage
2013-02-02, 11:50 PM
Desther glares at Ryenos, Five of their names were Alex, Allen, Roy, Joshua and Stephen. They were some of my best men.

Ariebth turns to him annoyed, Stop that Desther. turning back to Ryenos, What stone is this? Is the stone responsible for the undead outbreak in the beggers nest? Who is Shinon? Was Kyngos the water mage we encountered at the prison area? He managed to escape while I was chasing after you.

Road_Runner
2013-02-02, 11:56 PM
"If it caused the outbreak, Sonia didn't tell me. She was responsible for that monstrous distraction and the prison attack. Kyngos was the water mage, yes. She has a vendetta against me because we killed her boyfriend Callik."

Silva Stormrage
2013-02-02, 11:58 PM
Ariebth pauses thinking, That is distressing... we will have to deal with Kyngos then. Still who is Shinon?

Road_Runner
2013-02-03, 12:02 AM
"Shinon is a Vrykul... one of the waterdavian creatures."

Silva Stormrage
2013-02-03, 12:20 AM
Ah, that is his name. Interesting, well if thats all you remember I think it is best for you to head back to the prison. The Hemlite remaining there, Max I think, probably needs reinforcements.

Desther raises an objection, This is beyond an outrage Ariebth. You are openly flaunting the law of the city and country!

Ariebth sighs, We don't have time for this Desther. She turns to Ryenos, By the right of my position of the head of the guards I offer a pardon to Ryenos in exchange for one or more of the Waterdavian creatures returned and his help in quelling the prison uprising. she turns to Desther, There, no laws broken. Now let us let these men go to the prison. We have other things that we need to worry about Desther.

The giant, Angmar/Angel, adds "And what abilities did she possess. You said this Sonia had some ability to animate dead? Did you see her demonstrate any other of these abilities? Or this Shinon or Watermage for that matter? "

"I know she can raise dead; she is a vampire. I didn't explicitly observe her in the act of doing so. I didn't see much of Shinon. The water mage is very powerful and can manipulate water to damage and immobilize her enemies."

Demidos
2013-02-06, 01:11 AM
Interesting. Aribeth, do you have anything that can counter vampires, specifically? Can you tell us about any weaknesses you know of, or of any abilities of the Vrykul for that matter? If not, we can be on our way.
The giant hefts his scythe, apparently eager to get on his way.

Silva Stormrage
2013-02-06, 01:15 AM
You probably don't want to deal with him right now. He may be able to animate undead but he seems content to sit in the beggar's nest for the time being. Countering vampires though? Standard precautions should be good, mirrors, garlic, some kind of way to prevent their gaseous form from escaping. For the Vrykul though he is an archer and a quite powerful one. From the reports he killed half the battalion sent to captured him.

Assuming you head out back to the prison with two more guards sent as reinforcements you manage to reach the prison gate without any incidents. As you enter the prison the one Hemlite that is still alive from the previous battle greats you, I am glad to see you two still standing. Are these men reinforcements?

Demidos

says Bartok.

Bartok shoots a warning glance at Angel, who smiles disarmingly.

The Hemlite speaks bluntly, Glad to have you under me. My name is Kyle. Unfortunately we don't have the strength to restrain all the prisoners. And by law they are guilty of rebelling and causing mass havoc which is a death sentence. So we are simply speeding it up, you all have full permission to gut them like trout. The four of you will be entering the prison to thin out the prisoners, try not to get yourselves killed. While I and Larren maintain our choke point above. Motioning to the other Hemlite who followed you up. You can enter the prison lower floors whenever you are ready, I would suggest doing it soon though. The recent noise has begun stirring the prisoners but I am not sure if they are organized really.

Now just wait for me to actually FINISH the dungeon you will trekking into. As I think you would prefer me to fine tune the encounters so we don't have another player death. Or I could have Kyngos show up again. One or the other :smalltongue:

Entering the prison. Fighting the Aboleth

Current Situation:
Ryenos is fighting a criminal unaware that the aboleth is still alive. Can't see either Tyreal or Bartok due to mucus + stinking cloud.

Tyreal is 15ft down underwater in the mucus not affected by it or the stinking cloud. He failed the swim check so is not that coordinated in the water.

Bartok can't breath air and is nasueasted from the cloud. He is 5ft underwater near the edge.

Angel is drowning and has been for 8 rounds.

And the aboleth apparently wasn't dead. :smalltongue:

Aboleth's turn.

Silva Stormrage
2013-02-11, 05:04 PM
The aboleth surprises all four of you since it apparently isn't actually dead. The aboleth reaches out with a tentacle which grabs Bartok's foot and drags him downward 25ft and slams him into the floor of the pit.

It is then the Aboleth's turn who proceeds to start a grapple with Tyreal, the touch attack hits (Assuming a ~36 hits your touch ac with no dex). The he auto passes the grapple check, one of his next two attacks hits and deals 17 damage to Tyreal. Tyreal needs to make a fort save.

Bartok can make a will save versus the illusion on the Aboleth to see how injured it is.

Currently Ryenos's turn. He can't here or see anything that has happened with the aboleth, bartok or tyreal.

The Aboleth continues pinning Tyreal and attacks four times three of which hit dealing 44 damage.

Tyreal must make 3 fort saves versus skin slime.

Tyreal has 13 Rounds of Breath left
Angel has 31 rounds of Breath left
Bartok is nauseated for 1 more round until the cloud fades. Which then causes him to be nauseated for another 1d4+1 rounds.

Note I skipped Bartok's turn last turn as he can make one move action. If you want to make the move action you can. I will note that if you do you get bull rushed downward and your movement negated.

Bartok's and Ryenos's turn.

Edit: And then Tyreal's turn I suppose since the criminals are all dead. On Tyreal's turn he needs to make 2 fort saves. Cloud and Mucus again.

For some reason as Angel breaks down the glass wall separating you and the injured guard you have a weird mental image of a detailed fight where there was an Aboleth behind the glass door and Angel and Tyreal die. Dont leave weapons in the hands of the criminals if you can help it. Sorry I took a bit -- I stopped for a pedicure along the way. And why are you lying on the ground? Not the time for a nap. he calls out mentally.

Bartok responds through the net with a sigh, I used most of my spell slots in that last encounter. I'd like to save at least a few for whoever is controlling all of these criminals. Theyre far too organized to be simply coexisting, and it seems doubtful that so many criminals would work together well.

Assuming the sage was the one that was still dying, otherwise assume i finished off the shaman. If neither was dying, ignore that part, he still heals to full.

Ready for the next encounter when you are, Road-runner, assuming its within the next 2-3 rounds. That last fight wasnt particularly long or loud, so we probably have a bit. If we have more than that much time, we can discuss what to do after. How long will it take for you to recover?

Your group manages to pull back with the loot of all the corpses and the body of Ryenos including the frozen ice statue of the one thief frozen by the gnoll druid.

The Hemlites express condolences towards Ryenos's death, We need his strength protecting the prison. If you wish I shall send a runner to fetch diamonds from a merchant in Black Lake if you can afford to resurrect him. Unfortunately the church is too stripped for money to afford to resurrect him. Also we shall send word to Fenthick of the frozen one here and see if he can procure a spell of ice to flesh to restore him. His gear and info should be important to reclaiming the prison.

Does your group plan to make another incursion into the depths of the prison? Or are you going to rest and wait? Bartok mentioned that he was running low on spells. Waiting may be prudent but it also gives the lower floor prisoners more time to prepare.

Tyrael swift meditates and then casts overchanneled defensiveheal on Ryenos. "Go get him tiger," he says, nodding at the sage.

Mello casts Necromantic Maelstorm (Arcane Fusion), Ryenos and Angel feel choking gases filling the air and both must make 2 fort saves or be nauseated.

Many of the Archons reposition themselves, the one above Tyreal flies into the tunnel next to Angel, the one prone previously in front of the tunnel crawls towards Tyreal's square.

The archon near Ryenos stood up (The AOO already happened) and the archon in the same square as Ryenos attacks for 15 damage.

Ryenos failed both saves. He is nauseated until he leaves the stinking cloud's radius

Homebrew spell. Essentially it works as an arcane fusion spell that only functions for necromancy spells or non summoning conjuration spells. You have to have the spells prepared for it to function but Wizards can learn this one. http://dndtools.eu/spells/complete-mage--58/arcane-fusion--890/

Or are you asking about the duplicated spells? One of them is stinking cloud which you can tell due to the stench and the other you can't identify with spellcraft (You can't see it due to the smoke and clouds and the spell he cast was necromantic maelstrom. But you can probably figure it out fairly easily as it has to be a 1st level spell. I honestly think there is only one 1st level spell that causes nauseation.

"All the parts of Ryenos split into a swarm of the tiniest pieces possible. They fly straight down under the wall (maintaining cover under wall as they started, since he was originally prone) around the ankles of the zombies. (Note: straight down meaning it will pass through the square to the left of the prone zombie, the only one that can see the stream of body parts fly by.)

Angel summons a disk under Ryenos' feet, and moves it over to Tyreal is, picking them both up, and moves them along under the light screen to his side of the ice blockade to near where Bartok is. Simultaneously, or rather a split second before, the sounds of boots and shouting men sound on the floor above, ideally distracting Mello momentarily.

Tyreal benefits from 20% miss-chance, a +4 effective AC boost due to the archon being prone, and hopefully mello's distraction.

Bartok casts ghost sound. Ideally ideally this makes him look up and not have time to order the zombies to AOO.

Meanwhile Angel summons his disk (I assume it has to be summoned next to him?) which flies upwards towards Ryeon's remaining feet, and scoops them up, bringing them downwards the same path except splitting off towards Tyrael, scooping up his body and bringing that straight through the tunnel (somehow manuevering under the wall past the angel blocking the tunnel). The disk should end up where Bartok is currently standing.

This goes BEFORE Silva's last post:
Angel loiters impatiently and irritably by the entrance to the underground complex, having again set up the previous canvas set-up, idly forming disks of force and smashing them against each other with a flick of his fingers while he glares at the entrance.

Bartok, after a few quiet words with Angel, goes off to rest nearby, within earshot of the alarm bell system (assuming theres such a place), asking to be woken only in an emergency.

Angel eventually calls a guard over to confirm if they have any quick way of communicating with Aribeth or the temple if the last few prisoners decide to make a break for it.

Angel stands and rolls his neck, cracking it loudly.

Bartok calls over one of the guards "If we run into trouble, we'll teleport back to the temple to be healed. If you can, I'd prefer none of you died, and so a simple triggering of the alarm system and an accurate description of events if anyone gets out of the prison would be more helpful than heroic bravado. If they flee on foot, then discreetly tailing them could be helpful, but dont do anything stupid."

Angel snorts. "None will be escaping this time."

The pair nod to Ryenos and move into the prison.

"Thank you Aribeth," replies Ryenos in response to the complement. "The re-entry to the prison was difficult. We first encountered a strange shaman-like caster, sitting in a cell surrounded by lightning walls and acid pits. He started attacking us with fire, although to be fair I did sneak up on him invisibly. He seemed to able to heal and defend himself very easily, using the elements of air, water, earth, and fire by summoning these orbs and totems. We attempted to communicate with him throughout the fight, but we were hindered by his lack of hearing ability. The fight stalled for a long time, but eventually we realized he simply wanted to remain in his cell, and didn't wish us any harm. However talking we him later we learned his name was Coilfang we did learn some interesting facts..."
"Apparently there is some sort of invisible 'corruption' he can see. It is the plague, or rather, the plague does not exist, but the effects of the plague are because of this 'corruption' he speaks of. Apparently Angel already has the corruption spread very far in him, and I have it progressed a little bit. He claims it will be lethal eventually, however it is not attacking us at the moment, just spreading. He said he was jailed for attacking 'those in red', I assumed he meant the bloodsailors because of their uniforms, because they have the sort of non-attacking type of corruption and were spreading it to other people. He also said many of the doctors and the nurses have this type of spreading corruption... Anyways, he said it was important to not only cure the corruption, but to stop 'those in red' from spreading it, as they could simply alter the corruption to negate our cure..."
"The rest of our mission was relatively straightforward. We encountered a dangerous sword wielding fighter named Dupree, who we did not talk with much and simply killed. Then we ran into who we thought was the head warden, standing at the bottom of a pit. He was behaving strangely, and he came out to attack as and then revealed himself to be the intellect devourer. That was a difficult fight; we lost Bartok as a result, however we eventually managed to kill him."

Aribeth responds, Hm, thank you for the report. If this Coilfang speaks the truth that is most worrying also a good explanation for why the plague resisted pretty much all of our attempts to cure it. I shall go speak to him personally soon to confirm or clarify his words. I shall also send some guards to capture a bloodsailor about this. It seems odd that Vengual would allow this, despite being an unspeakable cad and a rogue he has his own sense of justice. Still it might be done unintentionally and it seems odd for another reason. A recent report done by the Hemlites is that still not one bloodsailor has fallen victim to the plague. Similar reports are with those locked in the prison.

Durpree was a bloodsailor officer and given my understanding quite violent. Her response does not surprise me.

Those shadow people are strange. I assume they are similar to those we fought at the Beggar's Nest Ryenos? Even so it will be difficult to track them and even if they are appearing they tend to not send in overwhelming forces. Despite the fact that they can teleport. I am not sure their objectives but it seems odd that they aren't just teleporting twenty times the amount of forces they have been sending and attempting to assassinate your group. Let us ignore them for now.

Kyngos, now apparently a vampire, she has an aura of shadow surrounding her
Tyreal, a rather famished ghoul with arcane runes on him surrounded by several black orbs
Mello, still living but seemingly bored with this encounter and not resiting or fighting the guards
Ryenos recognizes the strange half elven warrior who launched ice dragons and cold winds at the prison
Ryenos and Ariebth also gasp and recognize the spectral form of Nike now a ghost seemingly attacking the guards quite viciously
Fenthick gasps as he spots the two forms of Steven and Paul now as living zombies. They still wield their greatswords with quite skilled finesse and you see one of them casting a spell
Narrator: Angel, Bartok and Ryenos spot the twisted forms of the Sage you fought and Alex from the Prison now in a twisted mockery of unlife
Also Ryenos recognizes the form of Shard wielding a glass like sword and slashing through the guards who attack him
The orcish druid you fought in the prison is also there calmly observing the situation, he seems to be the first to spot you and glares at you before mentioning this to Sonia
Also you spot the Marrluk amongst the enemies, now an odd form of undead with withered skin over his form

Sonia: Sonia glares over towards your contingent, "HEY ARIBETH! Tell these lackies to back off! Its in your best interests!"

Aribeth: Ariebth calls out to Sonia, "I don't negotiate with the undead. What on earth would you have that makes it seem at all likely that I would not end you now?"

Sonia: "Nothing much. I do have Shinon's heart though." Sonia pulls out a large still beating heart from a pouch of hers. "See I showed this to the other guards but APPARENTLY they don't know anything about the Waterdavian creatures. Now tell them to stop attacking. Or else" black flames erupt dangerously close to the heart

Aribeth: "Men hold! What do you want vile witch? And how did you get that?"

Sonia: "Why in honor of friendship I wish to give you this heart free of charge. The only condition is that you have to release the wards around the city as soon as you get the god damn cure finished and then LET my little group leave the city. Afterwords you can attempt to hunt us down if you wish. Its in your best interest as well. We will try to keep a bit more control in the Beggars nest as well. Also I wasn't sure if you needed Shinon's heart while he was alive or not so he still is alive back in my crypt. So that is our condition. We shall give you the heart if you let us leave the city with no interference. No sending "Strike forces" or telling "Adventurers" where we are. I placed a spell on the heart and I can combust it whenever I want. And that spell will be maintained even if the heart is dissolved into the cure."

Aribeth: And you would just stay in the beggars nest? No attacking out guards while this is underway? No attacking the still living in the nest? Just staying in your rotting crypts until you can leave the city?

Sonia: Of course

Sonia: So do we have a deal?

Aribeth: "Hmmm" she turns to Fenthick and your group, "I don't think we have an option. If she destroys the heart we lose the chance of the cure. Do you guys see any flaw with this arrangement?"

Bartok: Bartok speaks directly into the minds of their allies. "I can relay any sensitive information. I dont see anything we can do though. Her group wields impressive power."

Aribeth: Hm, agreed. Very well witch. We shall accept your terms if you uphold your end of the bargain. Give us the heart.

Sonia: Thank you, and of course, but first, some of my companions seem to have something to say.

Kyngos: Kyngos glares at Ryenos, menacingly, "Just because we have a temporary truce doesn't mean you won't be brought to death by my hands. Sonia has given me free reign to hunt you once we are out of the city. Vengeance will be mine"

Kyngos: She takes off her mask. So you can see the full force of her hatred, "Your death will be neither slow nor painless. Nor shall it be expected"

Gopher: Ryenos recognizes Kyngos's form as Gopher the Bloodsailor waterbender you slew in the aqueducts

Ryenos: "Interesting how much you value the life of someone so close to you... and yet you value the lives of those you kill so little... well I will be looking forward to our little fight."

Nike: Nike also shrieks in her floating ghost form, "You have no right to say anything of that sort you bastard. You felt my life was worth less than the gear I carried on my goddamn back! We shall have vengeance and your death is almost guaranteed"

Nike: And don't think the rest of you are safe either. All of you felt that I was just another part of your precious "Cure" never minding the sacrifices I made for this city. Apparently all that gives you is a nice grave with a tombstone"

Sonia: Well yes, I am sure that will be most exciting. However, for now we are not enemies for the sole reason of we wish to get out of the city. If you have nothing further for us we shall be off

Narrator: Sonia raises her hand and her, mello, tyreal and the orcish druid teleport everyone away

Aribeth: Ariebth stares outwards for a bit before speaking, sounding quite troubled, "Out of one danger and into another. We have all the components for the cure but also there is a group of undead that might honestly be strong enough to take on the entire city in our weakened state. Still one threat at a time"
"With this we now have all the necessary components for the cure. Fenthick go fetch Desther and inform him of the news, both of the cure and the large undead bastion. I shall inform the palace watch and have them increase Lord Nasher's protection.
We shall prepare to create the cure tomorrow morning as soon as all the priests regain the necessary spells"
Ariebth turns back to your group, "I guess you don't have a mission right now. You are free to do as you wish for the remainder of the day. Just don't go into the beggars nest. With Sonia's minions hatred of you she might see that as a threat and destroy Shinon's heart. Still meet us in the temple at 7:00 in the morning for the ritual. Lord Nasher and the rest of those working on the cure would like to congratulate the heroes who made this possible"

Angel: Angel blinks slowly and nods. Assuming Ryenos has nothing to say, he turns to ryenos "You fought with some of them, did you not?"

Ryenos: "Kyngos is an old enemy. Nike was an ally... I guess we forgot to resurrect her amid all the chaos... that is unfortunate..."

Ryenos: "Shard was also an ally... however one battle forced him to flee to the Plane of Mirrors... we assume he evil clone killed him and the original Shard no longer exists..."

Aribeth: "If you don't have any other questions for me I must be off. Many must be updated on this news"

Ryenos: "I don't have any question Aribeth... except... remember what Coilfang said? Are you sure it's not too risky to activate the cure before we know if someone is able to modify it, invalidating the cure?)

Aribeth: "We can't risk anymore death. We haven't even confirmed his words yet either. And I don't believe they could alter the plague in such short notice as a day. This plague is something that has resisted almost all magic that we have used to cure it. Making a second one that does that would be extraordinarily difficult. I shall look into the truth of his words tomorrow though"

Ryenos nods. "I have no more questions then."

Aribeth: Then I shall be off. Ariebth summons her holy charger and rides off and a fast pace

Angel and Bartok go to research any uprisings in the bloodsailors or any change in personalities or new arrivals in the bloodsailors right before the plague started, as well as their shipping routes, storage facilities, and strong houses.

Additionally, they research any mention of shadowy people that have teleportation abilites and melt away when they die, and are usually silent, and any sort of background on their organization or whatever. More to come if we have any more info to ask about.

Additionally, they research all the types of undead they saw that they can remember.

Edit: If theres time at the end, Angel will go pray for a bit.

The Hemlite greatly helps you identify the various undead with Sonia,

Shard's Clone is a Bone Creature: (BoVD)
Steven and Alex are Corpse Creatures: (BoVD)
Tyreal is a Grave Touched Ghoul who is Spellstiched (Libris Mortis + CA)
The Half Elf Jarkos had an illusion up and is a Necropoltain (Libris Mortis)
Nike was a regular ghost: (SRD)
The sage and Alex were Tainted Minions (Heroes of Horror)
The Orc Druid was a gravetouched ghoul (Libris Mortis)
The Marrluk you could not identify as his appearance is too general for undead.

Gauging by the fact that Sonia was once a Vampire and gauging from the ritual she underwent the Hemlite theorizes that she is probably a vampire lord as she looked pretty much alive and was not visibly hampered by the sun.

You find no information on the shadow cult people, yet you do find information on how they probably are entering the city and attacking. You find a scroll in a far corner of the library describing an ancient spell called "Shadow Summon" it is an 8th level spell that lets the caster summon himself anywhere within a mile. When he arrives there he is treated as if he is a summoned creature summoned by himself, essentially he won't die if he is killed, they can be dispelled, and items vanish in a dissolving shadow essence when the summoned creature is slain. In order to cast the spell you must have a clear visual idea of the location as well as be a Demon. The spell was noted as being founded by demons when Teron Gorefiend still walked the material plane and was attempting to purge the abyss. Demons would use the spell to attempt to attack him without actually dying.

The Bloodsailors have been a rather steady organization with Vengual commanding them for over 25 years. New recruits come in an out rather frequently and Vengual often recruits adventurers if he has a particular job to do. They generally work with smuggling and robbery of either rich folk or city officials that try to tighten the guard's grip of the district. Thus the guards tend to be fairly loose in the district. They start listing some of the reputable new arrivals before the plague, Gopher joined 5 years before the plague at the age of 8 by killing two bloodsailors attempting to mug her. Dupree joined 2 years before that, she's is just a strongarm though. A wizard by the name of Faranall Putruss joined a year before the plague. An illusionist and necromancy of some note he hasn't been very active though.

There haven't really been any uprisings except the recent one with Callik but thats over with and Vengual is back in full charge. No one acted oddly before the plague either.

You can't find anyone willing to tell you the bloodsailor's strong houses or shipping routes.

Update:
Glad the forums are back up! The campaign will be put on hold till finals are over. The next section requires a lot of writing and a few encounter building for me so I will work on that once finals are over. You guys want me to make sure you don't just instantly die and all :smalltongue: Also need a new way to get Tommy's binder introduced. (Don't bother helping you can't predict where the plot is going. Well you can try it might be some good comic relief, if you guess right after the plot happens I will give you some small bonus xp. Post your guesses in the OOC thread. Those are the only ones that will count Gabe.)

The three of you wake up and head towards the ritual room below the temple where Ariebeth told you the ritual was taking place. The winding staircase downward leads into a large room where many people were already there, running about and seemingly doing some last minute preparations. Ariebeth, Fenthick and Desther are talking to Lord Nasher. Upon seeing you Ariebeth beckons you to join her.

Ariebeth speaks in a proud and jubilant tone, Ah I am glad that you have arrived, we are just about to undergo the ritual. Just a few more preparations and we shall have the cure. I just want to thank you all for the city of Neverwinter for your efforts in curing the plague.

Lord Nasher nods, Yes indeed, you have my gratitude and the gratitude of the people of Gilneas.

Desther speaks with a small bit of scorn but still sounds a bit impressed, Indeed, you have surpassed even my Hemlites' best efforts.

Aribeth nods, Yes quite. Let us commence the ritual. She, Fenthick, Desther and the Hemlites take their positions. The ritual takes 15 minutes to complete, the magical energy pulses throughout the room as the magical circles of power gleam and shine with magical essence. The crackling of the auras and magic in the room eventually coalesces into the cauldron, as the feathers of the cokatrice, the hair of Nike, the intellect devourer's brain and Shinon's heart are thrown into the cauldron. The energy subsides though leaving the cauldron filled with a shimmering gray liquid.

Aribeth catches her breath, Its done. We have the cure. We finally have the cure.

Desther stands up straight, Correction. I have the cure. As soon as Desther finishes speaking a shimmering portal opens up beneath the cauldron which falls into the portal. Desther smiles and simply strolls into the portal disappearing.

Fenthick calls out, Desther! Wait! and dashes in after Desther.

The Hemlites in the room turn on you and attack the guards in the room.

The Flamecasters unleash a deadly barrage of fireballs into both groups of guards devastating both formations. Aribeth projects a shield of light that blocks some of the damage from the blasts for the southern group.

The Hemlite Lightbringers unleash holy hell on Ariebeth and unleash four blasts of holy light with a flick of their wrists which spark and flare over Ariebeth, they then follow with four more blasts which they channeled which slam into Ariebeth's form, she staggers and almost collapses but her ring flares and she steadies herself.

"DESTHER! FENTHICK!" She screams, and as the portal begins to close she raises her hand and holy magic surronds the portal, "I can hold the portal open for a bit, but it takes my concentration. Finish off the remaining traitors!"

The portal dumps the two of you into a barren land. The scorching sun beats down on you and you find yourself on a worn out road in an unfamiliar land. To the right of you are running hills, to your left is a large desert starting a few miles from you. If you follow the road straight the road eventually curves behind the hills and if you follow the road back you see it wind behind some sand dunes.

No signs of civilized life are visible and even plant life seems to be scarce.

Ryenos sighs. "Well, Desther probably teleported somewhere else. We could be anywhere. I suppose we could teleport back to the city, but then we would be trapped inside, while Desther is free to roam wherever outside of the city bounds. Why don't we follow this road curving behind these hills, on the chance that he might have taken refuge in a nearby city."

As you head down the path for about 5 minutes before you start to curve on the road a storm forms, dark clouds are summoned almost instantaneously and before you have a chance to react a lightning bolt strikes in front of you. Once the lightning fades you see an old withered man form from the mark of the lightning. He speaks in a dark worried tone, Beware! The seventh day comes! Those who seek to find truth will be consumed by the lies that the truth will reveal in the depths of his secrets. Those chasing you wish to bring the secrets of the truth from those who seek the truth of the secrets. The flames of the world will come, cleansing those who were frozen in the wastes of flame. The eighth paw of the seventh rabbit will be sacrificed for the good of all! Seek the truth! For it shall lead you to victory! He looks around panicked, Oh no! I have said too much! The very ground opens in a burst of hellfire and several chains of pure fire grabs the man pulling him into the ground. The storm vanishes and the sky returns to the peaceful breeze of before.

Just to summarize our decision from roll20, after healing up we are going to teleport to the capital (Gilnian City). Grazan is going to try and communicate with the guards at the entrance from a distance (as he might be infected, and doesn't want to make contact with anyone) and try to get an authority figure to come out to try and figure out if there are any updates from Neverwinter, or Aribeth specifically

Demidos
2013-05-15, 06:18 AM
Correct. Preferably someone trustworthy who Grazan knows personally. A place to stay, sponsored by the city, would be nice as well. Info on the shadow people is good too, see if they can research it. Access to diviners so we can set them on desther/fenthick. If they have some way to block scrying, great. If they have someone who can check what they were doing in the last continent, though we should ask that once we have scrying protection. See if they can scry the area and determine what this ritual is. See if we can get a origin on the name he gave us.
