Sup guys!

I've had these lying around for a while,
so I might as well post them.

OOTS in sprite form.

http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/034/9/e/oots_by_neoriceisgood-d5to7n7.png

I'm thinking of spriting some more webcomic characters, so I'm open for suggestions if there's anyone you'd like to see.

(though try to provide a reference if possible, I don't know every single webcomic character by heart.)

Ha, try GenCrawl for something easy. :smallwink: (Plenty of reference in my sig.)

Neoriceisgood

How do you know if they're easy or not?

Domochevsky
2013-02-03, 03:52 PM
Well, for me they're easy, being silhouetted figures full of highlights and lighting. I suppose they might be slightly more difficult in a pixel style, but i wouldn't know.

What program do you make these with?

Just MS Paint, nothing fancy.

Some of the enemies I faced during this weekend's D&D Session.

How fun to sprite. :smallcool:

It seems Belkar looks better with hair.

Good point, though he's not exactly bald.

Neoriceisgood
2013-02-11, 11:42 AM
I have no idea what to think of Belkar's hair in his stick figure art.

Crystal shows that Belkar's head isn't shaved/stubble, as that gets a whole different style. So I guess he's got regular hair, just shown oddly?

I decided to just take some freedom with how he looks due to that.

Teutonic Knight
2013-02-16, 06:20 AM
Well either way he looks good.

Oh and as a suggestion for webcomic characters: Questionable Content. Since they wear mostly normal clothes, you can work on facial expressions and poses?

Provide some character references for who you'd like to see, as I don't read that particular comic.

Would it be okay if we requested particular monsters with refrences? I've always wanted ot see certain monsters sprited with skill, but do not have the skill to make 'em myself, and cannot find any in a style I like.

Hi Neorice, I think your stuff is great!

I was one of your silent viewers* back when APtGG Mk1 was updating. The practice comic you posted a while back with the wannabe adventurer and the temptress of the forest was too good to be just a practice comic, and HoH is looking to be an intriguing and shall I say triumphant return to webcomickery.

You were one inspiration I had for trying pixel art (which I've never shown), although my usual lack of motivation means that a few months have passed since my last attempt. I remember how frustrating it seemed to use a mouse for drawing. It's just not precise enough for freehanding, and without it the process was tedious.

I've wondered for awhile if you (and other pixel artists you know) make your art with the assistance of a tablet. I would be even more impressed if you just use a mouse.

Oh, and it would be cool if you drew some Inevitables. (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/MM35_gallery/MM35_PG158.jpg) From left to right, the link depicts a Zelekhut, Kolyarut and Marut.

*although I recall commenting once or twice on a strip.

Ahahah man, thanks for the kind message!

I'm a bit tired so I won't reply in depth, but I'll at least answer your question:

I pixel with tablet nowadays. I started with mouse, but honestly? With how much I pixel that quickly drove me in RSI territory, so I stopped doing that.

The only times you'll see me pixelling with a mouse or mousepad is if I'm stuck to only using my laptop, but I avoid doing it for long periods of time as it can really mess up your hands.

We appreciate the attempt and are moderately impressed by the lighting on display. http://i.imgur.com/N2nfK.png

(The aura is not as clear as i'd like it to be against a bright background... why did i design it that way. Oh yeah. Constant darkness. And the eyes being a light source to shine on things. Best used with another external light source, which is maybe going beyond the scope of this particular exercise. >_> )

Can you do this one?

http://3shades.deviantart.com/art/Playing-with-dragons-302138491

the litle speck of gold and black on hidden behind her right hip, is the sheath for the sword.
You don't necessarily have to include the pseudodragon.

Well, if you're willing to work off requests, any chance I could get one done of my ridiculous Drow Druid/Witch/???, Ekthalion? He tends to wear a duster and a muscle cuirass - the butt of entirely too many bad jokes - and generally just be a smarmy ass.

Oh man, these are lovely! I love how you can just see the OOTS sprites walking along in all their pixelly glory, bobbing up and down, Elan with music notes trailing behind him.

If you have the time to do a pixel avatar of my character, I would be eternally grateful, and would happily express that gratitude in the slightly more tangible form of some poetry if you'd like some for anything.

Most definitely! (Well, Vaarsuvius aside.) I decided it was high time I made a wizard, and when I looked through the races, ratfolk seemed like the best fit by a long shot. And when you have a ratfolk wizard, there's no excuse to not make him dapper.

I let my thread die down for a bit due to my studies heating up.
But I graduated recently so I should be able to post art more frequently. (and maybe get to the requests left behind that I didn't get to.. sorry about that.)

I actually don't really like MS Paint for pixel art lol

I use Ms Paint (XP version, win 7 and up's MS paint is unusable imo)

Other programs you may want to look at are:

photoshop

sai (it has a paint/binary tool, albeit not the best)

the gimp.

There's various other programs that are technically usable for pixelart, but I know these are some of the most popular options.
