Pewter city is bustling around like always. As you look out the window of your townhouse, you see the Pewter Museum at the edge of town, and Mount Moon rising up to touch the sky in the distance. Both places were relatively familiar to you, though the world was still quite a large place.

This is sandbox, so you're free to go where you want and do what you want.

Rain falls heavily just outside Cerulean City. You're about half an hour away from your farm by miltank, and right outside the city gates. A miltank killer is out there, you can feel it in your bones.

This is sandbox, so you're free to go where you want and do what you want.

Peter smiles to himself as he finishes his leisurely breakfast. It was truly fortunate that he had been able to find a place to live so quickly once he had arrived in Pewter City.

After quickly washing his dishes and seeing that his Pokemon were fed, Peter shoulders his satchel and heads towards the Pewter museum. His hands ached for the feel of rock and dirt beneath his pick but he needed to familiarize himself with the local history first.

Let the games begin!

Makoto rides into Cerulean City on his Miltank, Chie, and contemplates the details of his ongoing investigation. He's been on a roll these last few months, and even the downpour can't kill his enthusiasm for making it to town.

Makoto knows that the killer must have a Pokemon with fire attacks, because some of his Miltanks had severe burns. The man has small feet, judging by his footprints, and can't be very tall unless he has an unusually short stride. And, most importantly, he has some sort of tattoo on his left arm. Makoto caught sight of it on that fateful night many years ago. He doesn't know precisely what the tattoo was, but it was there, clear as day.

He's been here before, many times. But this time rumor is on his side - word from the dark underbelly of Kanto says that a mysterious, powerful trainer with a penchant for fire-type Pokemon has been spotted in Cerulean City.

Makoto pats Chie on the head and chuckles as he pulls up to a Pokemon Center.

"I think this time we're gonna get some answers, Chie. I can feel it."

Pewter feels nice to you. Maybe it's the rock gym that Brock runs or the museum full of ancient fossils that you're heading to, but this place seems like somewhere you'll fit in fine.

You enter the museum lobby about ten minutes after leaving. You received a letter of recommendation from Professor May, you ancient history professor. You can either head to the labs or go through the museum (as a student of history, you get free admittance). A receptionist sits at the front desk typing at a laptop.

Makoto
You get more than a few odd looks as you ride into town on your swarthy miltank. Apparently they weren't used to seeing such pokemon being ridden, especially in town.

The pokemon has stables out back for ridden pokemon, though it might just be simpler to return it before going in. The pokemon center is bustling with light traffic.

Peter walks up to the receptionist and waits until she finishes with her laptop.
Excuse me? I'm fairly new in town was wondering if I could see the museum head.

He hands the receptionist his letter of recommendation.

I was hoping that I might be able to discuss, among other things, sanctioning some freelance digs in the local area.

The receptionist scans your letter with practiced ease. Satisfied, he looks up at you and smiles. Of course. I'll show you to Professor Groton's office.

You're led down a hallway into a large office. Skulls and bones litter the desktop, and stacks of paper are pushed up against the wall. An old woman in a rather goofy looking dress glances up at you, large glasses enlarging her eyes. Oh you must be Peter Gemma. she says in a largely exaggerated voice. Come in. Come in. I was just discussing glacial migrations with my kabutopus gladius. She indicates one of the large skulls on the desk. Now. What can I do for you? Cracker? She offers you one.

Makoto leaves Chie at the stables as he enters the Pokemon Center.

He takes in his surroundings as he crosses the threshold - there's a few potted plants and a series of nice couches lining the center's walls. There's a small crowd of people around the main desk. The resident Nurse Joy is carefully handling various trainers' requests as Makoto approaches and tries to strike up a conversation.

"Hello ma'am, I was wondering if you could spare a minute to answer a few questions." Makoto leans against the desk and tries to appear nonchalant.

"I'm sorry sir, but I'm terribly busy right now. Could you -"

"Really, it'll only be a minute at most. It'd mean the world to my investigation," Makoto interrupts, allowing a quick hint of desperation and need to creep across his face.

He can't quite read her expression and waits for her response.

"Oh... umm sure, thanks."

He takes the cracker and nervously munches it.

As you know I'm in Pewter pursuing a... project. While your collection is certainly impressive, I've come to this city to search for fossils that still retain intact and functional DNA. With specimens like that, we can do far more than simply categorize them!"

Peter's eyes light up as he speaks, simultaneously releasing Avis and Victus on either side of him where the Aerodactyl and Carracosta stretch.

"My research has lead me to believe that the area around Pewter has an inordinately large presence of such fossils. If I can get the museum's sanction to begin excavation in the nearby Routes, I could learn so much! I believe that such magnificent specimens as these deserve to live again and that the world deserves to see them."

Peter
Ah yes. Reanimation. Quite the useful ability. She examines you pokemon with careful eyes. Professor Blaine has told me about these beasties, but I must say I thought it was an attempt to bamboozle me.

She digs through one of the stacks of paper and comes out with a battered manilla envelope. I can clear you to dig in a jiffy. You'll need to fill out some paperwork, and of course all items discovered will need to be logged with me. Also, I only have authority over the surrounding routes. If you want to venture into the tunnels of Mt. Moon or Digglet Cave, you'll need to talk with Brock.

The envelope contains a variety of paperwork that requires you to give a large variety of information, including your contact information and social security number. It would make you an official Museum Volunteere with access to lab facilities and tools.

Makoto
Obviously flustered, the nurse responded confusedly.

Investigation? Can I see some identification please? What is all this about?

"Excellent!"

Peter quickly fills out the relevant forms after a few frantic phone calls to refresh his memory. He excitedly returns them to the Professor.

"I was wondering if there was anything you could tell me about the local sites and, specifically, Brock. He's the local Gym Leader, correct?"

CosmicOccurence
2013-02-08, 03:45 PM
Brock is indeed our gym leader. He's a rock type specialist who gets around - if you know what I mean. She winks at you. He's a little headstrong, but you shouldn't have any trouble with him.

As for local sites, we see quite a few fossils, though none with enough quality DNA to resurrect. We've found some archaeological artifacts from the Alphian Age, though no doubt you know that already. Mt. Moon has been much more productive, but our permits don't reach that far, and the mountain is a little dangerous for us to send our scientists, as most of them aren't trainers.

UncleScrewtape
2013-02-08, 04:11 PM
"Hmmm, it sounds like I should seek him out. Thank you again, Professor, for all your help."

Peter reaches out and shakes her hand before leaving with permits in hand. However, he doesn't immediately leave but instead wanders through the exhibits for awhile before he leaves the museum and heads for the Pewter city gym. Odds are, Peter believes, that Brock will be there.

Makoto smiles and straightens out his coat. Though he learned the best ways to deceive and trick information out of people from his days as a detective, the old fashioned emotional appeal was always his preferred method of intelligence gathering.

"I'm not with the force anymore, ma'am, so I'm afraid I won't be able to provide any ID. I'm looking for a man - a criminal, actually. He came to my ranch and killed the Pokemon I held dear. I've been chasing him ever since.

I won't bore you with the details, but I've come to believe he's been through these parts recently with a host of fire-type Pokemon. If you've seen anyone matching that description, I would greatly appreciate it if you'd inform me.

You're under no obligation to help me, but your cooperation may help bring a vicious man to justice."

The museum is full of interesting and engaging fossils. Some you are familiar with - aerodactyl and carracosta - but others you only recognize from rough sketches in books. A kabutops and its kabuto children gather around a fossilized egg while what appears to be a hammer headed reptilian skeleton attacks.

Give me an Wis check

When you finally head to the gym, you do in fact find Brock. He trained in a large ring against what appeared to be three students, all of whom were attacking his large onix with fists and feet. Their combat ends with the onix coming out on top, and the group begins a cooldown before finishing up. They don't seem to have noticed you yet.

Makoto
The nurse nods in concern, her inner healer coming out. That's horrible. I'm so sorry for your loss, if you ever need anybody to talk to about it, we're always here for trainers that have gone through troubled times.

As for records, I can't access names of trainers - we don't keep that information - but I can let you know if there have been any trainers with large amounts of fire type pokemon.

She goes to a terminal behind the desk and begins to type. There have been two fire type users coming in during the last week. One is a regular who lives somewhere in town. His main mon in battle is a Ninetails according to our records.

The other we hadn't had in before. He had a stronger team than our regular user, and his team was pretty beat up. Strong ground type attacks had hit his team. It could have been that he came from Mount Moon, or he met a trainer with a team that focused on ground mons. He came the day before yesterday. I don't know if he's still there, but I remember he mentioned staying at Ellingson Motel on the south side of town.

Dr. Slice
You wake up to gentle pawing of King. It was the start of a new day, and the seaside villa that the lab provided you with was filled with soft colors and impressionistic paintings. It was a peaceful place, far from the shadowy deals and black markets of Celedon where you father (your real father) held sway.

Though you were technically scheduled to go to work today, the overtime hours you'd put in over the last three months meant you could take a sick day and the bosses wouldn't mention it. They certainly would like you to come in though.

Peter pauses for a moment, something about that colony of kabutops had caught his eye.
[roll0]
Edit: Well, shoot.
However, noticing nothing out of the ordinary, he continues on his way and reaches the gym.

Peter, not wanting to interrupt Brock's regime, settles in, watching the rest of the onix's cool down. Peter waits until after Brock finishes with both his pokemon and his students to approach the Gym Leader.
"Ummmm, excuse me? my name is Peter Gemma and I have a matter of personal importance to discuss with you. Do you have a free moment?"

Dr. Rictor Slice's eyes opened in response to the gentle pawing of King. He sat up in bed and stroked him, his hand following the neck from under the jawline to the shoulder of his majestic companion. Dr. Slice reached over to the night stand, grabbed his glasses and wristwatch, and checked the time. 8:03. He was scheduled to work at 9:30, giving him ample time to perform his morning routine. His eyes were slow to open and he could feel the long hours of lab work setting into his bones. He looked out the window to see the sun's light playing on the ocean's rippled surface.
I could get away with missing a day...
King's nose pressed forward, nudging his knee. He looked down affectionately, a smile touching his lips.
You're right.
Slice stood up and, with a deep yawn, stretched his arms and back then walked through the rooms of his cozy seaside villa to the small side-yard. It was a nice place to live. The impressionistic paintings took some getting used to but overall the villa was comfortable and peaceful, which was all Rictor Slice could want. Releasing his other pokemon from their balls, Slice set out the appropriate food for each to have breakfast and then went inside to shower.
After dressing, Slice headed over to his home-office and grabbed a series of folders and charts that pertained to his cloning research with Subject A. He looked over to his work table where the tools of a more personal project were set out. He shut the door and went to the side-yard to retrieve his pokemon. Once outside, Slice took in a deep breath of the sea-salted air and released. He was relaxed. King by his side, Slice grabbed his lab coat and stepped outside for another day at the lab, he had work to do. The walk to the lab was short and pleasant; Slice was happy to share the stroll with his constant friend. Once at the door, King looked up at Dr. Slice.
I know, I'd let you stay out if I could.
After petting King's head once more, Dr. Slice returned him into the pokeball. It was 9:19 when Dr. Slice entered the lab, punctual as usual.

Brock looks up at you as you approach him. Eh? Usually people just come up and say they're going to beat the muk out of me to get a badge. I'm sure I could spare a moment.

He leads you to the side of they gym to one of many small tables that people used when not training in the gym. What do you need?

Slice
You scan you ID card at the door to gain entrance, checked for weapons, and sent you into a disinfectant chamber. After ten minutes of procedures, you are admitted into the lab. The R&D department buzzed with activity. Scientists and lab assistants walked across the lab with sheafs of paper and manilla envelopes. Machines buzzed and whirred throughout the room, and petri dishes stewed at one wall.

Dr. Austin walked up to you. He was one of the scientists that worked more closely with you. He specialized in cloning technology, and you have had many conversations on the genome of ditto in the past months. Slice, how are you? We just finished some tests on porygon coding last night. It's a pity you weren't here for it.

Dr. Slice shook hands and exchanged greetings with Dr. Austin. Austin was a good coworker and colleague but he tended to get away from work more than Dr. Slice preferred.

I'm good. Well, you know how much I love Porygon. He let out a sly grin. The joke was well received. I was running some tests for the Eevee project with Subject A last night. He showed the manilla folder to Dr. Austin.

All the while they were walking to the lab where there was work for the Ditto Project waiting to be done. The Ditto project was part of a fossil cloning program that had been delegated to Dr. Slice from correspondents in Pewter City. They walked by the laboratory where Dr. Slice had spent the better half of the last month synthesizing vitamins that were ultimately destined for sale in Celadon City. Dr. Slice scanned his card and held the door open for Dr. Austin as they entered the lab. Dr. Slice summoned DAN from the pokeball and began preparing it for tests.

Dr. Slice nodded toward the curiously large stack of folders tucked under Dr. Austin's arm. What's that?

Peter sits down heavily at the table.
"What I need is simple. I've come to Pewter to prospect and excavate for the fossil remains of ancient pokemon. The slopes of Mt. Moon and Diglett's Cave have potential, or so I've heard. Since they are under your jurisdiction, I came here seeking your permission to continue my research in reanimation. I can assure you of my credentials..."
Peter pulls out his letter of recommendation and the papers that he recieved at the museum and offers them to Brock.

Slice
Dr. Austin perused the folder in interest, but seemed to have his mind on other things. Oh these? They're just some data I pulled for a colleague of mine in Viridian City. He was interested in one of our past studies on oddish migrations.

As you run some preliminary tests on DAN, everything seems normal. DNA sequences run across the television screens in front of you, and machines start to whir. Lab assistants are there to help you with whatever you need while you run the tests.

Just for kicks and giggles, give me 3 intelligence checks. Not only will this introduce you to the dice roller, but I can also introduce some interesting stuff depending on you're rolls.

Peter
Brock gives your papers a passing glance but quickly puts them down. I'm not as interested in what your academic credentials are. Instead, I want to know if you're tough enough to not die when exploring the mountains. I can't lease anybody to travel through the mountains without me knowing that you have what it takes to survive.

He leads you out onto the field. It'll be a 3v3 match with trainer involvement. You don't have to win to pass, just prove to me you've got some power. If you do win, you'll also get the Boulder Badge. He releases what appears to be an armored tank of a pokemon, which roars.

Shall we begin?

Dr. Slice introduced an enchained Kabutops, a rare specimen, as a test subject so that DAN could transform. Once DAN had transformed, Dr. Slice looked over the altered DNA sequence and began filling in the blanks.

Oddish migrations in Veridian City...

The thought of his hometown brought in a stream of unwanted memories: his house, his bodyguard, chasing after Rattata and trying to catch them as a kid. His father.

He clenched his fists and dropped his gaze to King's pokeball on his belt. But he never remembered any Oddish in his home city. The happiness of his youth clashed with Slice's perception of his father. The internal battle stole Slice's concentration.

Dr. Slice's work was well done for the day, but now there was no obstacle to distract him. He opened the door to his seaside villa and quickly locked it shut behind him. He opened a locked cabinet in his file cabinet and scrambled through it for items: vials of venom extracted from Trank, mixed powders from Gaia's spores, synthesized chemicals made in the lab....

He gathered the items on his work table where there was already equipment out along with a few flasks and capsules filled with ingredients. He sat down and began working on his project.

How am I now father? Good enough?

His heartbeat raced and blood pounded with seething fury as his thoughts turned to his past.

No. I'm better than you. I'm better than you ever were.

He began work on a separate concoction. Combining the venom with the powder, Dr. Slice created a mixture in the glass flask. He added boiling water to the solution and then set it over high heat. After several rounds of decanting and reheating the solution, Dr. Slice extracted a dark purple serum from the vial into a syringe. Longing to rid himself of his tormenting thoughts, Slice drove the needle-point into his bloodstream. Slowly releasing the fluid, he plunged into ecstasy and all went dark. Some of the dopamine-induced feeling lingered when Slice came to consciousness. He embraced King and held him for a while, running his hand along King's spine. He purred softly. After a short while, Slice stood up and drew a deep breath. He was no longer tormented by his worries, his head was level once again.

He let his breath out and walked over to his work table. I can put in another hour. He sat down and began to work; he mixed potions, crafted solution, and filled capsules with fine powders. Dr. Austin's report papers still stood out in his mind, but it no longer bothered him; he simply took note. King watched him at work and wagged his tail side to side. They didn't bear the classic marks of a hardened trainer, so Slice judged he would be able to best them if it came to a physical contest. Dr. Slice disregarded the joyful overtones of the man's greeting, he demanded answers before he would shake the man's hand. When Slice spoke, he spoke with the distant tone of a man who had seen those closest to him die.

I am he. Raising the alarming phone, he gestured to the men, Is this your doing?

The man's lip twitches upwards. No. I'm not clumsy enough to get caught breaking into a laboratory with defenses as flimsy as that one.

I'm more interested in you. You see, I have been looking for skilled researchers to assist me in a project that has consumed many years of my life. I've gotten by so far, but now I need somebody with more ... specific expertise. You fit that description swimmingly.

For the man to consider Cinnabar lab's security flimsy meant that he had considerable power. The furrows of Dr. Slice's brow deepened as he sized up the small group of men and he returned his phone to his pocket.

I'll have to check out the lab later.

Dr. Slice relaxed his stance slightly, eyes still locked on the men, and King stood at his side poised and ready to defend his dear companion. They weren't dressed like scientists so Dr. Slice was hesitant to guess what they wanted. Ok, explain yourself.

But can I trust these people? They could be rockets, too.

Slice dropped his gaze and locked eyes with King, his regal expression calmed Slice. Slice's fingers were fumbling at the edge of his phone. I need answers. Who do you work for? Where is this lab? He paused, it occurred to him that his research at the lab, and maybe the research at his apartment as well, could be in danger. Meet me tonight in front of Cinnabar Gym, then we can figure this out.

Without wasting time, Slice checked his belt to make sure he had his entire line up and then made his way to the lab.

When you arrived, you found your keycard to be ineffectual in opening the door. The laboratory was on lockdown. Standing at the front of the lab, Dr. Slice released Houdini from his ball. The visible lines of his silhouette blurred into a shadowy fog as he passed through the walled entrance of the lab. The door emitted a light clanking sound as Houdini tampered with the locks on the other side. The door opened and Slice was greeted with his pokemon's unfailing, wide smile.

Good boy. Slice softly murmured and he returned Houdini to his ball and then entered the lab.

The last words the men at the beach told Slice bothered him, they were too secretive for his liking. Should I work for them? The prospect of working on a highly rare specimen's DNA struck his interest. Slice peered into the dark abyss of the lab, the lights had been cut out. I guess that depends on what I find in here.

Slice summoned Ira from his ball, the dragon's fiery tail could illuminate the way. He didn't bother looking around to check for damages or robbery in the lab, he headed straight to the file center to retrieve his research. Once slice reached the door he looked around to see if anyone was there. No one. He drew his card key from his pocket and silently unlocked the door. He opened it slowly and cautiously then stepped in.

War-hardened coolness overtook Slice as he assessed the situation. He could feel nothing but disdain. Ira caught sight of his master's eyes and, responding to a slight upward nod of Slice's head, launched himself into the air. After ripping the pokeball from his belt, Slice sent forth Gaia aside his flaming dragon.

Gaia's flower unleashed a room-encompassing blast of luminescent spores that perfectly mimicked sunlight. The sudden brightness caught everyone in the room off guard, jarring their senses momentarily. Ira's scales glowed red hot and his already ferocious stature took on an air of searing bloodlust.

The nurse took the balls from him and told him they would be transferred to his PC as soon as they were healed. Slice thanked them. He still had to check his apartment.
Slice walked up cautiously to his door and tried the handle. Locked, thank goodness. Maybe they didn't know where I live, or maybe it's not me they're after. He unlocked the door and then continued to his office. He grabbed the vitamins he had been synthesizing for his personal project, the list of TMs he intended to teach his pokemon, and after opening the safe under his desk, the compiled findings of his years of extensive research. It's time to stop messing around. After packing clothes and necessities along with his other belongings, Slice headed out the door. It was night and the moon was high over the ocean. He sighed. The four men were leading you to a small shack on the side of the cement runway when screeching filled the air. A small pack of mankey and primate had appeared, and they were not happy. They advanced slowly, shrieking their displeasure.

"Excellent, I look forward to uncovering what time has hidden there... it has been too long since my team has truly exerted itself."

Peter leaves and hurries to the pokecenter to have his 'mon healed. While Peter waits, he recalls what he knows of the local history and geological trends. As far as he knows, the nearby route to the east would be a good place to begin with since it's too late in the day to tackle the mountain. After his team is returned to him, Peter calls out those who fought. Smiling, he stokes them and quitely says,

Content, Peter returns Victus Lapis and purchases some supplies before calling out Avis from her ball and leaping astride her back. With a creak of leathery wings, they're off and soaring east, soon leaving the busy sounds of Pewter City behind.

Soon, Peter spies a likely spot: far from any rivers or roads and relatively undisturbed by any significant geological. It is there that they land. Attempted to calm himself, Peter steadies his voice. These pokemon were by no means stupid.

Peter stands and hurriedly gestures for the fossil-encrusted crustle forward. He opens his toolkit and removes a small hammer and chisel. With the crustle's assent, he begins tapping gently around the edge of the fossil, slowly working it free. Any nervousness he had melts away as Peter falls back into what he was trained to do, what he loves to do.

Though it took a long time, a lot of jostling, and a large number of nervous pokemon, you eventually managed to extract the fossil from his back. There was a small crater where the fossil had been, but you knew that it would quickly fill in with sediment.

Peter lets out a sigh, rocking back on his heels in relief. He nestles the fossil in his satchel before looking around a rock or stone to replace the fossil. Even though he knew that the sediment would eventually replace the crustle's shell, doesn't mean that the poor thing needed to be frightened in the meantime. Peter, after all, is in a good mood. He pats the crustle's shell
"Thank you, I owe you and your family much."

At the sight of the fossil, Peter lets out a shout of glee.
Two perfect fossils within a few moments?! Unheard of!
He delicately pops off the amber and stores it, hands shaking, next to the other fossil. He then nestles the rock into the shell of the crustle and leans forward, resting his head against its rocky hide.
"Thank you."
Peter sits back as the walls continue to fall.

Munoz Hutchinson..... The name seemed to have a familiar ring to it, as though half remembered from a dream or perhaps his college days.

The lab's extensive amount of advanced technology and the opportunity to work with some rare specimens made Slice excited. He acknowledged what Munoz had said,
I look forward to it.

He walked over to a computer that was already logged in and gave the data a cursory glance to see if there was anything he could notice right away.

The system used by this lab was similar to that of the Cinnibar lab, though it was infinitely more encrypted. The DNA strand was completely different from anything you had ever seen. It was constantly shifting and changing, never staying the same. At first it seemed random, but the longer you looked, you noticed a pattern. There were 601 distinct variants that repeated itself. There didn't seem to be any distinct pattern in the order they appeared, but there were definitely a set number of mutations.

Peter sits, back against the side of his excavation pit, for some time. The magnitude of the risks he had taken in the past few moments begin to hit him all at once. Wordlessly, he begins to set up camp. Before anything else, he'd need to to prepare for the night and any wild attacks or poaching attempts.

After digging numerous traps, with the help of his team, Peter eats a cold dinner and shares it with his team. He then retires two his tent with an almost manic expression on his face.
Almost time now...
He hurriedly assembles his portable lab and calls out Ferrum, his magneton, to generate the necessary power. Finally, he almost reverentially removes the two fossils and nestles them into the bed of wires and and pseudo-nutrients. With everything prepared Peter takes a deep breath.
It's time. It all comes down to this.
The circuitry begins to hum, the magneton's charge building more and more. Great gouts of smoke begin to billow up, framing Peter's silhouette as he hunches over the controls. Peter's hands flicker over knobs and dials... it all came down to this.

Suddenly, sparks begin to leap and crawl over the wires. The scent of ozone begins to pervade until, with a ear-shattering CRACK, Peter reels backward. There is dead silence as the smoke clears and Peter crawls back toward the machinery to see whether or not his work had come to fruition...

Hunching over his table, Peter waves away the smoke.
"Damn!"
Another setback. And yet, not completely...
After returning the fortunately undamaged amber to his satchel, Peter lifts the egg that now resides where the cover fossil once stood. Cradling it to his chest, he trudges back to his tent and curls up, falling asleep after one of the longest days he could recall.

601 variants, what could that mean....

Without a word Slice sat at the desk and produced a book on cloning and another on pokemon genetics and began sifting through them as though for gold.

Munoz stood next to him overlooking his actions then asked about what he had seen. Variants, I saw variants in the pokemon genes. 601 of them.

a step forward at last... and I can't stop now.
Peter releases all of his pokemon for breakfast, eating most of what they had left. Calling over Ignis, his heatmor, Peter hands him the small egg and directs him to burrow into a nearby bank where he soon creates a cozy underground nursery.

Then, whistling, Peter heads back to the excavation site.
Hi ho hi ho....
He, along with Terra and Solum, begins to dig again. This time they plunge straight down, attempting to reach the bedrock of the region that is riddled with tunnels and caves. Once Peter and his team reach a layer of stone, Peter places several blasting caps that he then triggers after retreating to a safe distance. After the dust clears, Peter goes back down the tunnel to see what underground caverns that the blasts have revealed.

You are given a tour of the rest of their facilities. In addition to the cloning lab, where you entered, they also housed laboratories focusing on evolution, controlled breeding, prototype equipment, pokeball innovation, and an undersea excavation center. They had some labs on the bottom level, but access was granted to those on a need-to-enter basis, and you did not have access to them. After the labs, they took you to the residential portion of their building - though some might compare it to a fortress; there were guards all over the place, and you passed through multiple checkpoints throughout the tour.

Your suite was generous. There was a master bedroom and bathroom, a full kitchen, and a living space. There was a PC on every floor, and special environments for the more exotic and naturally dangerous pokemon you might have brought.

As you finished your tour, Munoz gave you some final words. Well, I hope you enjoyed your tour. This place is a little on the large side, but it works well for us. We ask that you obey a curfew from 2 in the morning to 6 in the morning. The guards won't hesitate to apprehend you if you try and venture out. Heck, it even happened to me once. We can give you a couple days to settle in before your work begins in full. Do you have any questions?

When the Q&A is finished, I'm cool with you doing whatever with the next day. Explore the labs, island, do research, etc etc.

Peter
Your excavation is mostly successful, and this particular piece of land seems to be especially gainful. You manage to turn up a kabuto fossil, a fire stone, and a collection of coins that you think dated back to approximately 500 BCE, though you can't be sure. They could be worth a large sum of money to a collector or museum that was interested in such objects - though the Pewter museum will surely demand their portion for free. Otherwise, you day seems uneventful until late evening during your last demolition.

With a blast, rocks fall away in an oddly organized fashion that leaves a large empty space to be seen. Only half of the room was still intact, the other portion lost to the ravages to time. It was perfectly circular, with a similarly large circular table on the far side of the room. It was covered with runes, and what seemed to be a knife lay on top of it. Suddenly, a large amount of clicking filled the room making the experience much eerier.

Wis please

Dr. Slice was impressed with the lab. Never before had he seen such security, the funding for this lab must be tremendous; he wondered who was footing the bill. He was glad he ended up here instead of Cinnabar. After seeing he living quarters in full, he turned to Hutchinson.

After Munoz left Slice dropped his bag on the floor and went to the PC where he obtained his pokemon. He then released the lot of them into their own special environments except for King, Slice laid out a large plush pillow for him to lie down next to Slice's reclining chair. He fell asleep with King by his side.

The sun shown brightly through the curtains the next morning as Dr. Slice got up and prepared for a day of discovery. He returned his pokemon to the PC and then walked to his lab and picked up some files to review. Munoz had given him the day off but Slice didn't want to be separated from his work. He spent the morning perusing the files and then set his work aside. It was time to find out more about his new residence.

The fortress made Slice feel as though he had shrunk. He picked up a sack lunch from one of the facility's many cafeterias, retrieved his line up, and headed out to explore the island.

The island was vast and diverse. He trekked to the southern end of the island where he found a pool of crystal clear water. He lounged at the shore until he noticed an crevice under the water. Dr. Slice was in the midst of the wilderness with his pokemon.
