Swordsage weapon focus question

Swordsage lets you pick a weapon from your chosen discipline that gives you a free weapon focus at level 1

Spiked chain is a shadow hand weapon

can I pick it as my choice despite not having the weapon proficiency for it?
Even if I wanted to take the appropriate feat, you need BAB +1 to take exotic proficiencies so I couldn't do it at level 1

and would weapon focus give me the weapon proficiency for free?

You choose a discipline and you get weapon focus for all of its weapons. It does not make you proficient.
