how strong is the Monstrous Humanoid sub type as far as it goes towards immunites compared to the usual humanoid type.

You get immunity against everything that affects only humanoids, which mostly are spells like charm person, hold person, and dominate person. Which only helps until 3 spell levels later, when they are replaced by charm monster, hold monster, and dominate monster. Not really much of a benefit. More class levels should almost always be better.

As far as racial hit dice go they're fairly decent. Full bab, 2 good saves, and darkvision. Pretty lackluster, but that's how bad most racial hit dice are. Pales in comparison to outsider, dragon, and somewhat situationally undead.

Well it is a +0 La so it is not much of a worry on class level, thank you for the exposure.

Monstrous Humanoid isn't a subtype.

You lose the benefit of Enlarge Person, which is a great melee buff in the early levels, as well as other X Person buffs. So there are drawbacks to the type as well as advantages.

you must be playing a goliath then, since they're the only monstrous humanoid without and RHD. remember that they have an LA of 1, so it does still affect your class level.

in your case, it makes you immune to the spells folks mentioned. it also gives you some cool options for alter self if you have spellcaster levels and/or UMD. since you'll likely focus on melee (unless you roll goliath rogue) then it does provide a disadvantage through not being able to enjoy enlarge person (as mentioned) but since you have powerful build, you won't feel it quite as much.

The other benefit of monstrous humanoid is benefiting from classes that specify non-humanoid, like fangshield ranger or soul eater.
