I'm about to start either a level 20 homebrew class campaign or a level 30 campaign. The class at hand (fabricator) is very similiar to sorcerer except it is wisdom based and it gets an animal companion as well. And they get the construct subtype as well. What would be the best familar/ companion at this level?

Familiars don't really change in usefulness with level, AFAIK. I direct you to Dictum Mortuum's Handbook. (http://dictummortuum.blogspot.com/2011/08/familiars-handbook.html)

If you can get a Hummingbird familiar, go for it and don't look back. +4 initiative saves lives.

Thanks for the link.
While the hummingbird sounds great, Dm expressedly forbids anything Dragon magazine because, it could possibly help equalize low tier classes to the level 20 wizard.
also just one more thing. The campaign is evil. Can you have a good familiar if you are evil?

AnC scale with level, still. Familiars... not so much. You should consider Arcane Hierophant, if you are interested in a good companion. I used the class to make a pretty good ubermount build using it and Dragon.

The Book of Exalted deeds has some nice options for familiars. Draconic Familiars are good, as the great and powerful Dictum Mortuum has noted.
