Magic items can be made intelligent. Golems function in many ways as magic items. can a golem, by raw, be made into an intelligent item?

if so, how much would it cost to make an intelligent iron golem with the ability to craft other intelligent iron golems? magic items do technically have a caster level, so it would qualify for the item creation feats.

if this can't be done with normal crafting, what about a legacy iron golem (legacy monster template from WoL)?

No. Golems are crafted similarly to items, but once crafted they are not items.

That said, Awaken Construct (Spell Compendium) may serve your needs.

Incarnate construct template.. though its not technically a golem anymore.

Embed an intelligent, wondrous magical item in the workings in such a way that the golem is slaved to the will of the magic item.

I described doing that for my homebrew magic item, here:

so legacy golem it is, then.

then said legacy golem could craft new golems, and awaken them. that would require some ad hoc legacy abilities, but simply matching them to equivalent abilities should be fine.

I don't know if it can do this by RAW, but couldn't you just have an intelligent magic item gain dominance over a Golem?

Stained Glass Golem (Int 4, MM2)
Force Golem (Int 12, MM5)
Brain Golem (Int 6, FF)
Demonflesh Golem (Int 8, FF)
Hellfire Golem (Int 12, FF)
Emerald Golem (Int 10, Monsters of Faerun)
Diamond Golem (Int 10, Monsters of Faerun)
Ruby Golem (Int 10, Monsters of Faerun)

I'm fairly sure that there's a template (which the builder can apply for a set cost) which grants constructs intelligence in Dragonlance: Bestiary of Krynn.

@warforged. warforged are not golems.

@3.0 resources ad setting specific resources. i prefer to stick with 3.5 generic wotc content.

@mm5. good catch.

@intelligent item gain dominance. i thought of that, but the golem would still haven no feats or skills. making the golem itself intelligent is much better.
