Wondrous Items for a Detective?

So before we start breaking the bank, let us put it this way. I am looking for low power wondrous item ideas that would be for a detective like player. These would be custom and am not looking for the usual true seeing ruby gem, or wand of glitterdust.


I have been looking at ideas like an item that makes hallowed eggs, that you can throw twice a day and make glitter dust bombs, much like confetti eggs, and other tools such as low level detect shapechangers like compass.

I have been looking at ideas like an item that makes hallowed eggs, that you can throw twice a day and make glitter dust bombs, much like confetti eggs, and other tools such as low level detect shapechangers like compass. Eggshell grenades from oriental adventures. They already come in the following varieties:

- dust (blinds)
- flashpowder (blinds)
- pepper (stunned)
- poison smoke (stinking cloud)

They don't quite fit what you're looking for, but the idea for the tool you want exists. Maybe mess with it a little. There is also the dust of appearance, if you want a wondrous item.

You could also just use bags of flower.
