Crowd control and AoE specialist using Core 3.5

Does anyone have some help on what class is the best crowd controler and / or AoE specialist?

And what do i need to set him up?

Wizard, specialized in Conjuration.

Assuming that Core is the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Monster Manual (some people also include the other items posted on the SRD, such as Unearthed Arcana and the Expanded Psionics Handbook, so it's always good to specify), there are still a bunch of nice crowd control spells available. What level are you aiming for?

Well, i am starting in 2 weeks on a new campaign with a new character.
the DM has told us, that it will be at least towards lvl 20, i'd like to do CC and AoE. ( i don't like to be in the center of the fight). So any information to help me out is greatly appreciated. Especially since there 'll be 3 new players that have never played before. We will all be starting at lvl 1.

Ok, starting at level 1, some good crowd control spells include Sleep, Color Spray, and Grease. Once you are third level and can cast second level spells, Glitterdust and Web are very nice. I'd recommend googling TreantMonk's name, as he has some good quality guides to playing a Wizard interested in crowd control and AOE.
