Final boss fight tomorrow for my players: A werewolf ranger, a tibbit rogue, an aasimar summoner, and a human cleric vs. the BBEG super-evil transmuter and his high general. What music do you suggest for final boss fight showdown extravaganzas?

Personality and tone of the campaign is way more important than class and race. Can you tell us what kind of baddy he is?

I always liked to use some old FF Tracks I liked for the confrontations, if they fit the boss of course.

Two I've used recently:

Good if you have a fast paced combat with a lot of mundane action I find. Fits the images of clashing steel and running around a lot more than a Spellcasting Duel.

And this one I just like in general and has a good feel for a mixed battle where lots of different things are happening.

Personality and tone of the campaign is way more important than class and race. Can you tell us what kind of baddy he is?

Main bad guy: Incredibly greedy and power hungry: If you cross him, he won't get mad, he'll just transmute your entire family into gold statues to cover his losses. Started as a slave and murdered his way up. Part-time chronomancer who cuts deals with monsters from a plane of nightmares as a short-cut to power. Has no remorse, no love, no pity: Everyone and everything is merely a unit of currency that he deserves to own.

Edit: Tibbit Rogue: NG, serves a goddess of travel (http://www.pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Desna). Mostly prefers to find non-violent solutions to problems, but will kill when absolutely necessary. Usually the voice of reason for the party (shared by the human). Sees the good in everyone, even when it's not necessarily there. Somewhat arrogant, is already making plans to achieve immortality and then become a goddess. Has founded a benevolent yakuza-style organization that mediates disputes between criminal organizations and minimizes collateral damage when violence breaks out.

Werewolf (Elf) Ranger: CN, serves a goddess of lust (http://www.pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Calistria). Has started organizing a movement of lycanthropes under the guise of a mercenary company, but secretly planning an assault on a nation of devil-worshipers that destroyed his beloved forest. Usually the first to try a crazy plan (such as a night with a succubus or charging directly into a fight), and has payed with it through the most Resurrection spells per party member. Switches easily between archery in his elven form to melee in his werewolf form.

Aasimar Summoner: CG, serves a god of drinking (http://www.pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Cayden_Cailean). Fun-loving and laid back, mostly. Prefers to let his six-armed angel (or other summons) do the work while he sits back and buffs. Has had the most romantic subplots, breaking the heart of a merchant's daughter to protect her and then falling into a relationship with a wizard conducting research at the frontier fort that he's been slowly turning into a bustling city (with the help of the tibbit especially). In the process of turning an abandoned, ancient library into a school of magic that especially protects neglected native outsiders. Hates slavery in all forms (and sees a clear distinction between summoning a friend and enslaving someone).

Human Cleric: LG, serves a goddess of valor (http://www.pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Iomedae). Raised in a navel-gazing LG community, he left to try to do real good in the world, but fell into hatred, killing out of anger and spite rather than justice. He was cursed by his goddess for a time, until (with the help of the tibbit) he repented and found forgiveness. Since that time, he's played a support role for the party, tending their wounds and trying (usually unsuccessfully) to provide spiritual guidance. In the process of founding a school that mixes swordplay with magic power.

Edit: I LOVE MYSTIC QUEST! Two great songs, thanks.

Atonement - Chronotrigger Remix. Kinda metal. It's A Black Wind Howls and Frog's Theme compilation. Frog's is soft and melodic in contrast to the harsher notes that make up the focus of the song.

My DM played it for me when I defended the last Master of my order (dragoons) from death from a Wyvern Lord (super buffed dragon/wyvern thing) and my Lich Mom. Freakin' awesome fight, I'm going to have the 12 rounds commissioned sometime =)

In a fun highly heroic type of campaign the final battle was separated to three parts. So I made 3 lists on you tube, mostly using music from 2 steps from hell (really the best for epic music). only downside is that now with you tube having commercials on it, they may interrupt the lists in the middle.

anyway:
fast paced, energetic, suitable for raising tension up, and promoting highs speed action. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGy70BxOQwY&list=PLEE4EA1159835732D)
darker, more ominous, desperate and with some nice latin and singing in the background (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b16uJ0DZ-Qg&list=PLEEC33B24F6F7A7F5)
most heroic, epic, really the final battle. tremendously uplifting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2hRTLdvdnk&list=PL28C0D9F897841003)

also, since battles can last a long time, and you may want uninterupted music, i'd suggest some full 2SFH albums. the disadvantage here is that you get all kind of mixed songs, with different moods, which may or may not fit your battle, but that said- they are awesome:
all drums go to hell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88SOwK7Ocsk)- fast paced, great drum music, very upbeat and gets you pumped up.
invincible (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88SOwK7Ocsk)- one of the best known albums. highly epic and uplifting in nature.
Nemesis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sogofK43pzo&list=SP0E5C8605B14C2FBE)- it's a play list, but for some odd reason I haven't had it interrupted by youtube commercials yet. (I wonder if they were switched off somehow?) It's quite an interesting and good mix, which I can't quite describe rightly. listen to it.

many people make their own ` hour (or more) compilation of the
"best" songs of 2 steps from hell, so you might look them up and maybe found something suitable.

I hope this helps! good luck with the campaign finale!

What makes me reluctant to use music is that I am worry it might become boring after a while. In pretty much every group I have played in, large battles tended to take more than an hour, sometimes 2-3, which rather streteches the impact of the scene..
What are your experiences with the actual use of music?

Used bits and pieces of all of these. Thanks everyone!

What are your experiences with the actual use of music?

Mostly good; music is very good for setting mood. One thing I did for a campaign: Every time something related to the main boss happened (think a combination between the Furies, Native American witches, and Lovecraftian horrors), I played this (http://youtu.be/kmbH_oOJFYI). You could see the tension level of the players rise the moment they heard the first notes after one or two encounters with them.

For this boss battle, I just played a song every 10 minutes or so, with quiet points in between. Constant music usually turns into a distraction, but playing a song every so often usually keeps people excited.

Am I the only one noticing the similarity between the above piece and Nero's Angst (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwIuXXk8JtY)?
