So my friend is running a 3.5 game and has asked my to build him masters of each of the nine schools. These guys are each level 30. I am currently working on the desert wind master who is a mix of ranger, sword-sage and scout. I am looking for a way to have him overcome/ignore fire resistance. Any ideas?

Cold damage.

This is a difficulty I've been considering myself for a while now. If you were a mage rather than a martial adept, overcoming fire resistance is really quite easy: the "searing heat spell" metamagic from sandstorm ignores fire resistance and makes immune creatures take half damage for a lowly +1 slot adjust. But I digress.

The only thing that occurs to me is the Spell-Thief, from the same book as the Scout (CAdv). At 3rd level, their melee attacks can be used to temporarily strip 10 points of energy resistance per hit from a target, so long as you can sneak attack them. If you can work those 3 levels into the build, it should be trivial for a high-level swordsage to hit the enemy with a large number of attacks to wear down their resistances. The downside? A 3-level dip that doesn't help you with flat-out fire immunity.

Cold damage.

This sadly doesn't help; the OP is talking about the Tome Of Battle manuvers rather than spellcasting.

To elaborate on the problem, the "Desert Wind" school deals large amounts of fire damage, but offers no alternative energy type or feats that acheive the same. Because manuvers are extraordinary or supernatural abilities, meta-magic and other spell-related feats cannot apply.

Homebrew a feat that lets him either ignore X (maybe half?) of fire resistance, or that converts some of his fire damage into physical or something.

At some point I need to write up the homebrew master of one class I came up with. The idea is a 10 level PRC that grants mastery of a single style and removes some of the issues with each one.

The class allowed you to focus on a single school of TOB and so long as you only readied stuff and used stances from that school it added a rider effect to your stance/strikes.

Desert wind turned the fire damage into sacred fire that ignored fire resistance/immunity but still worked with weakness to fire.

Stone dragon also was fairly neat. It got true resistance 30, and reduced the damage received from any effect by 30 points, minimum zero.

All one class though, kinda like master specialist.

I've seen the Searing Spell metamagic before. I have mixed in some items from sandstorm into my build. Sadly the dm doesn't allow homebrew items...most of the time.

I love to see what you come up with when you finish the master specialist.
