Welcome to Aatos, a world where kings rule, knights roam, psychics bend the world to their will, empires rise and fall, and beasts roam the wilderness. These beasts are called Pokemon, and they both kill and are killed by humans. They come in many forms, with many appearances, and are used in all parts of Aatos, from agriculture to trade to warfare. Welcome to a world of dragons and sea serpents, a world of moving forests and living boulders, a world of pokemon.

We look today upon five specks in the vast landscape of human life in Aatos. They come from different places, think and dream different things, wield different amounts of power. How will they change this world?

Keep reading to find out.

Janan dives behind a merchants stall, but didn't stop. He risked sneaking a peak out of the corner of his eye for his pursuer. A large bellied man waving a shiny scimitar over his head, yelling slurs and profanity at the youth, pushing people out of his way. Muk! Digging into the hard ground Janan takes off again, ducking between people as quickly as he could.

The larger man had more trouble here. Bigger crowds, harder to push his gut through. Janan turns his head to the right, catching the man's gaze go to the alleyway on the right. Janan ducks into a slight crouch, keeping his head below the crowd line, making his way to the alley on the opposite side.

Once safe in the alley, he sprints to the corner and slams himself against the wall, trying his hardest to control his breathing. Now I wait.

Theo awoke suddenly and fully. Lying still in his comfortable bed, with eyes wide open. Had I been dreaming? What brought me to my senses so quickly and why can't I remember the dream? With a turn of his head he scans the room with his eyes before scanning it with his mind. No one's in here. It must have been a dream. There's no point in staying in bed if I'm awake, I should get up. And so he throws back the covers and stands on shaky legs.

A mirror set on the wall next to his dresser shows the ravages sleep had done to him. His normally curly hair is flat on one side and sticking up in the back. His small beard is a tangle of dark blond briars that would make any self respecting gentleman flinch in aversion. He sticks out his tongue at the ghastly reflection and promptly dunks his head the wash basin across the room. A rough shake and sudden shock of cold bring the clever young man out of sleep's embrace entirely. Torch comes over from his own nightstand to warm and dry his master as Theo fixes his features. "Thank you, Torch," he says to the Litwick. Torch responds with a curt nod, as per usual for their morning routine.

About twenty minutes later Theo left his room with Torch hovering above his shoulder. The young man had cleaned himself up to look surprisingly like a self respecting individual. He was dressed in the simple, yet masterful clothing that his Lord had commissioned for his staff. Dark pants of sturdy material, offset by a pale green doublet that coincidentally matches his eyes. His rank as one of Lord Tarril's retinue is denoted by an black and copper armband over his left arm.

As he takes his breakfast, he is able to wave down a steward and ask, "Do I have any instructions for today?"

Sparks flew as metal hit metal under the light of the rising sun. Ovelia Verene was training hard with the retired knight Sir Zairon. Her mentor was a large man with a powerful build that came from years of combat. Each blow that Ovelia couldn't dodge and was forced to block pushed her back and threw her off balance, and each time she was knocked off balance another blow came that she couldn't dodge.

Ovelia Verene knew she wasn't going to win this match and it infuriated her. While she knew the man was stronger, it was after all why she had begged him to train her, it still frustrated her to know that victory was out of her grasp and she was only stalling.

Eventually the blade in her hands was sent flying through the air as her mentor sent her sword flying with a powerful blow that her tired hands was unable to resist. With the training duel over, Ovelia's adrenaline slowly stopped and she realized how tired she was.

Despite her loss, she could tell she was getting better. This fight had lasted longer than the others had ever lasted and while she wasn't good enough to be the King's Champion she was finally starting to feel like she was taking steps, albeit small ones, towards her goal.

Ovelia bowed politely to her mentor before grabbing the brown cloak she wore and placing it back on herself. "That's the final one for today..." Ovelia said through gasps for air. The physical training was always exhausting for her. "My shift will be starting soon. Thanks again, Master Zairon." She said.

Once the respectful farewells were properly exchanged, Ovelia released Maximus and quickly began the trip to the palace. Luckily the air was cool and the breeze rushing across her face helped to let her relax and regain her breath. Upon arrival at the castle, Ovelia got to work with Sir Hector released and ready. His aura powers and ability to communicate with Ovelia had helped multiple times to keep the King safe and it was a common sight to see the two working together.

Here's hoping today is a day free of selfish noble women just wanting more money... Ovelia thought to Sir Hector.

Captain Rayleigh is a short, stocky man with hard muscles underneath his dusky, wrinkled skin. His hair and beard are kept short and tidy, and his moustache is waxed into immaculate curls at the end. His hair that was once jet black is now a salt and pepper that is getting more salty and less peppery every year. His bright green eyes are as sharp as ever and look to always be an instant away from laughter. His deep, smooth voice has a cultured accent typically seen among Gallun nobility.

He's wearing his favorite burgundy wool coat with silver trim. His heavy black boots have been recently polished and it would be difficult to imagine that they were the same pair that had just yesterday been covered in the refuse of naval combat. His wardrobe boy does good work. The gold ring with a cabochon sapphire gleams on his finger in stark contrast to the purple and silver coat, the wite silk shirt underneath, or the burgundy leather pants whose legs showed through underneath the coat. None of his weapons or pokeballs were visible, yet the man exuded an air of powerful confidence nonetheless.

Besides, the meeting today was not supposed to be a violent one. Of course, here in the Syreni Isles, one could never be too careful. His crew waited aboard the nearby Moon Shade ready to pick up their captain swiftly and sail away should things prove less than genteel today. When visiting on another pirate's ship from another Crew alone and unarmed, it was best to be prepared for anything. If this young hothead didn't listen to reason, well... there was a reason Bartholomew was twice the mean age of the typical pirate captain.

At last reaching the captain's cabin on the ship, Bartholomew will knock loudly and say, "Xui'chin, my good man, I am here! Open up, and let's drink up this wine before my quartermaster realizes it's missing!"

Ghalib relished the feeling of the saltwater spray lightly splashing against his face as the vessel pulled into port. Even though he had lived in Port Said his entire life, this was the first time he had left the marketplace and actually stepped on a boat. Earlier that day he had closed up shop and liquidated his inventory to earn passage on a merchant ship. Destination - Shipwreck Cove of the Syreni Islands.

He had given away his last egg, a wild-bred Sandshrew, to a beggar boy. "Now listen, child, and hear me well. Poverty is a mindset. You must always remember that. Everyone can be good at something, and if you're good at something, you can make money doing it. Begging is not your natural talent, that I can tell. Take this Sandshrew for instance. It is not the strongest creature of the desert - but its claws can still dig for shelter and nourishment. Its hide is not made from rock or ore, but it can bend and roll with ease to avoid slow moving predators. It does not have the sharpest eyes of the sand-dwellers - but if it did, it would be blinded by the bright sun! Instead, its snout leads it to the oases. Find your strengths, and be proud of them, my boy."

And now, staring out into the twinkling horizon of azure waves, Ghalib reflected on his own strengths. He may not be the most handsome of men, but his way with words has raised enough corners of lips of fair ladies. He may not be as successful as his brothers, but he found himself content in his cot at night. He may not be a great warrior, but he has never lost a fight. Of course, his practical knowledge of psychology allowed him to have never engaged in violent activity, but the winning streak was there nonetheless.

Above all else, though, Ghalib was a very talented Pokemon breeder. He could of made quite a bit of money breeding them for war; this is what brought his brothers riches. He could also have bred out their wild traits and crafted batches of domesticated beasts. But Ghalib thought Pokemon had the most potential as companions, even as friends. In a world where these creatures are known to commonly want to kill you, this was a very strange idea. Strange enough to entice the wealthy!

Ghalib sighed. Wealth. The amazing things one could do with it. In human society, it seemed like there was nothing more important. Ghalib considered himself lucky to find the quest for riches a pleasurable pastime instead of a struggle for survival. Perhaps this was why he found Pokemon to be so utterly fascinating. Pokemon had a society devoid of wealth or status, free of those distinctly human trappings that bound us to our own Pokeballs. He loved to observe them in their natural habitat, living only to survive another day in a chaotic world of predators and prey.

But Ghalib understood economics. He knew that without money providing the backbone of society, humans would become no different than the Pokemon they dominated. Wealth was what made you a human, and it could indeed buy happiness and sadness and any number of things if you had enough of it.

That was the very reason Ghalib found himself on this ship. Cold hard cash, and lots of it. It was waiting out there, just waiting to be scooped up by the handfuls of the brave and adventurous. The Syreni Islands, home to the sort of Pokemon that people would give their crown jewels for. Not because of their combat prowess or their ability to pull a plow, but because they were exciting! He would bring this excitement to the rich, and become a rich man himself.

Ghalib's stomach grumbled. "How long have I been pondering? All of that self-exploration sure made me hungry." He turned away from the bulwarks and headed down into the galley to see what was being prepared for tonight's meal.

Though the bazaar was quite noisy during the middle of the day, you could clearly hear the angry shouting of the merchant as he waded through the crowd. His deep voice cut through the background noise like a knife.

I know you're here little rat. he shouted in an accent of a Carthaki that was born and raised in Kafrmietta. When I find you, you'll never steal again. You knew what he meant: if he caught you, you hand would be chopped off.

Where'd you go hiding? I'll find you eventually. Hari, sniff him out. We'll find him eventually.

Suddenly, he went silent, and the crowds of the bazaar flooded back into your ears. Had his pokemon picked up your scent, or were you safe?

The butler was an old man. Very prim and proper, but good at his job. The Lord Tarril does not have any business meetings today. He will be spending time with his wife and children on the coast of Lake Lyra. However, you will be accompanying the Lord's nephew as he goes into town to pick out a ponyta for his riding lessons this afternoon. It shouldn't be difficult, but protocol demands that any guest of the house must be accompanied by ... The man continues for a minute as he expounds upon long and complex social customs of the nobility classes. You'd heard it all before, but he just couldn't seem to help spouting the stuff at every possible moment.

Lord Tarril's nephew had been visiting for a week already, and wasn't scheduled to leave for another three weeks. He had been sent here by his parents in another city because he had been 'unduly involved with those of menial worth' as Lord Tarril's sister had put it. In short, he had spent time with girls of a lower class and didn't follow his parents instructions, so he was sent here to cool his head. Thus far, he'd been a pain to all the servants, as he requested the most ridiculous things. Now, he wanted to learn how to ride properly, but demanded that he receive a new horse as a gift from his uncle. A gift that he would pick out.

You vaguely recognized that you had an hour before you left for the city before the butler walked off to the kitchens.

He wore the ornate red outfit that all captains of Treasure Island ships wore. A black goatee graced his chin and had been curled with wax. Come in Captin Bartholomew. He leads you to a large oak desk where he sits in an embellished chair. A chair for you sits on the other side of the desk, the side closer to the door.

I must say I was surprised when you requested to talk with me. I must admit I am a little hesitant, but I'm sure that will be cleared up when you explain what you came here for. And, if offered wine from your stores, there was no way I could refuse an invitation. Where is it from?

The ship holds a strange mixture of people: sailors who worked on the ship, merchants looking to make it big in the Isles, and warriors who thought they had a chance to escape their past life by joining a pirate crew. You will be travelling with these people along the Sea of Falling Stars, across the Stormwrack, and into the Islands where you will make landfall at Shipwreck Cove. The ship will be stopping periodically at port cities to restock and allow the passengers to stretch their legs.

The mess hall was a loud and boisterous place. Drink aplenty and fresh meat were on the menu, this would be the best you ate in a long time. After tonight, your meals will be bland: full of fish and sea biscuits.

After you sat down to eat, a man came walking down to the mess hall. He spoke confidently as the crowd listened. Hello, I am the captian of this ship. Before we set out, there are a few rules I need to set out. First, you will listen to me and my sailors without question. We talk, you listen, or we leave you at the nearest port with only the clothes on your back. Second, if you want to battle, do it on the decks. Third, we'll be stopping at port cities along the way. You're welcome to explore, but if you aren't back when we leave, we won't wait for you. He leaves quickly, and the loud chatter resumed.

"Very well, thank you," Theo says to the butler as the man leaves. He finishes meal soon after and spends his remaining time in his room. While no one was looking he was able to practice his telekinesis to his heart's content. He went through a series of routines from floating out the pokeballs for Torch and Sparky, to untying a drawstring on his coin purse without jingling the coins inside, and opening doors while moving towards them. All things he's done before, but practice keeps him sharp and before long he feels it's time to leave. He goes out to the front of the manor and waits for his Lord's nephew.

Business has been going well. Galla has been becoming easier and easier pickings. Ever since their king died they've been struggling with internal problems. They don't have time to worry about raids. I doubt it will last, but this year's season was a good one. You?

Phew. C'mon Patience. The day is young. Though we should probably avoid the market for a while. Sticking to the alleyways for a little bit longer, Janan explored some of the less traveled streets in hopes of finding a public bath. He let Patience sit out on his shoulder. "I'd say a glass of Galla's finest wine says business has been good." Captain Rayleigh says smoothly as he got out the goblets and poured the two of them drinks. "Unless I am mistaken, you were born in Gavent. Have you kept up with how your country of birth is doing? One of my captains told me that the Gavnti port he sacked this year had fallen on hard times. Only haul worth noting was a half-dozen crates of silk."

He takes a small sip from each to show that neither was poisoned and offers one to his host.

Would you hurry up already? I'd like to make it into the city before nightfall. Of course, nightfall was nowhere near, that didn't stop him from complaining about it.

It wasn't her love for working at the palace and watching over the King, however, that caused the hesitation. "Wilbur, sir?" OVelia asked, trying to hide the surprise by disguising her question as just a casual one. "I mean no disrespect, but shouldn't someone with more experience shouldn't be guarding His Royal Majesty?" Ovelia asked as she took the sheet of papers and glanced through them. She didn't want it to seem like she was against the order and showing disrespect, so she tried to act casual about it.

Phew. C'mon Patience. The day is young. Though we should probably avoid the market for a while. Sticking to the alleyways for a little bit longer, Janan explored some of the less traveled streets in hopes of finding a public bath. He let Patience sit out on his shoulder. The little guy had a knack for picking out trouble.

You find a bath without any trouble, and your stench ensured that pickpockets avoided you. The attendents handed you a towel and some soap while keeping their distance from you, and you were admitted into the steaming hot baths after paying the 1 drachma entry fee.

He takes the wine with a nod, though he still tests the liquid with a pinch of powder before sipping out of it. He smacks his lips and places the goblet on his table.

Indeed I did originally come from Gavent, though I'm afraid I haven't been there in quite some time. My captain seems to think that I might be tempted to return to my former life if I returned to my homeland. I'm sorry to hear that it's fallen so far though, it truly has some remarkable wonders in it.

I'm sure I could point you to some of the more lucrative cities though. I certainly remember that much about it, and I think I may have some beautifully drawn maps of the area lying around.

When Ovelia heard the news she hesitated for a moment. She knew that sometimes she'd be sent on other missions and wouldn't always be doing the same thing, but she loved her job.

He'll be fine. We've got a squire by Jonathan's side at all times, and there are knights all over the palace. It isn't perfect, but we need you in the field today, and the other two regulars left for the north a week ago. We haven't received any carrier pidgeys yet, but we're keeping our hopes up. It was obvious from his voice that he was worried. Even with 100 rangers, they had become spread too thin recently. There was just so much that needed to be done, and not enough people to take care of it.

The papers contained all the information you needed. Maps of the area with markings where the beast had been sighted. A description, with an artist's sketch on what they thought the beast looked like. They thought it was an ursaring, but nobody knew for sure, as those who had seen it had died.

At the second killing there were other tracks. We don't know if they also participated, or if they came after. Some kind of canine pokemon.

Be careful on this one Ovelia. You may be one of the King's guards, but you still have a long way to go. Don't get overconfident - we can't afford to lose you.

"Thank you, will do. I'll find the monster, deal with it, and get back here before you know it." Ovelia said folding up the paper and tucking it into her pouch. "Anything else before I go?" Ovelia kept her disappointment inside as she thought about the mission. She reminded herself that this job was important too. Children had died, King Jonathan was nothing but kind and he probably cared about this. Even if it didn't protect his body, killing this creature would ease his mind and help him focus on other matters. With this motivation, Ovelia found it easier to find the determination and focus she'd need.

Even though arrive slightly early, the Nestor, the nephew, is already there complaining loudly and asking why they couldn't leave yet. There was a large carriage with two rhyhorn harnessed to it.

Would you hurry up already? I'd like to make it into the city before nightfall. Of course, nightfall was nowhere near, that didn't stop him from complaining about it.

"Yes, certainly," Theo says. His acquiescence to the young man serves as a sharp reminder why wealth is important. It made the people that had it important, and from that comes a certain amount of power. But Theo has powers of his own, and while he rides in the carriage with the young man he periodically checks in on Nestor's surface thoughts. Theo knows to talk only if his Lord's nephew starts the conversation, such is the place of personal staff.

Janan strips wrapping his belongings in a bundle of his pants. He made sure they remained within his sight at all times. He let Fury out as well. Behave yourself. Enjoy a soak. Fury snarls, letting out a puff of smoke in Janan's face before gently lowering himself into the hot water. As Janan eased himself in, Patience cannonballs, splashing him with the steaming hot water. Yoaw! Patience giggles, little bubbles surfacing from his mouth. Fury cracks a toothy smile.

After a good long soak (avoiding splashes from Patience), Janan gets out and dons his clothes. That was good. Like it Fury. The tiny dragon doesn't look at him but he was looking far more relaxed. C'mon. Lets go see if we can find some work. Returning the dragon, Janan heads back out in search of work.

While avoiding the bazaar like the plague, work is hard to find. You could always go to one of the taverns: they were always looking for youngsters who were willing to take a trip to the outskirts of town where there were patches of berries grew. Wild pokemon frequented these patches, so the work was moderately dangerous, but the chefs didn't seem to care if their workers got injured. It paid 10 drachmas a trip.

The Bloody Hand was an option. It was a dangerous group, but opportunities awaited for those who had not morals or were desperate.

The third option was to go to the Conclave and join it. There were plenty of job listings there for those who were willing to take on danger, but they charged an initiation fee: 200 Drachmas, which you didn't have.

And then of course, there was always theft and pick-pocketing.

Nestor obviously did not have the mental control that you, your teacher, or Lord Tarril had. His mind was an open book for you to read, and the young man seemed to have forgotten that you were a translator with the ability to read minds.

He planned on ditching you as soon as he found an opportunity when in the city and going to a whorehouse to have some fun. He didn't plan on returning until the middle of the next day on the back of his new ponyta.

The vehicle stopped, and the driver opened the door for the two of you. Nestor quickly hopped out, and motioned for you to follow him. Orothan's cobbled roads were lined with storefronts and businesses even though you were on the edge of town. Slaves and servants walked the streets while carrying large amounts of supplies, and the wealthier merchants either rode on ponytaback or in a rhyhorn propelled cart. Nestor quickly walked down the street to the breeding center, a large building with land out back for their newly hatched pokemon to roam. He waited in front of the store, obviously waiting for somebody to open the door for him.

The lowest portions of the Bloody Hand are quite common. You can find small groups of thieves tattooed with a red handprint in any part of the city if you know where to look. Your life on the streets of Kamfrietta led you to a beat down restaurant called The Strung Sandile, and a dead sandile hung from the sign on a length of cord. The smell drove away any customers that might come for the food.

Though the sign hung in the main street, the actual entrance was in an alleyway dark alleyway filled with feces and trash.

Called the Royal Forest because of its close proximity to the palace, the trees were thick with age, though a well worn path led from and to the various towns that occupied the forest.

Noctowl's Hollow was a small village about four hours out of the city on Maximus's back. The walled city opened its gates readily for you, and a small, withered woman waited for you. She gripped a cane in her hand, and a litwick floated by her side. Nobody else ventured into view, and those few who were already outside quickly went indoors. Once again, the ranger's role as secret police ensured that those without experience with the rangers wanted nothing to do with them. This woman, however, seemed comfortable with you; she was probably some kind of leader in the village.

Greetings stranger. My name is Medina, the headwoman of this village.

The trading center was large, and it buzzed with buisness. Behind the large counter that was about midway into the room lay a multitude of shelves. On them sat hundreds upon hundreds of eggs nested in straw. Baby pokemon roamed in small enclosures and played with each other. Pidgeys with small notes attached to their legs flitted in and out of windows near the top of the building to deliver messages to workers and guests. Armed guards stood near the exits to prevent theft, and all the workers carried weapons of some kind.

Seeing noble garb, an attendant quickly hurried up to the two of you. Welcome. How may I help you?

Our selection is quite good. We pride ourselves in being the best mount breeders in the whole city. We offer only the best, and you won't find better prices anywhere in the city. It was obviously just marketing. However, the attendant is quickly resolving to screw your master over for his obvious arrogance. Something about a bucking ponyta.

He leads you out a side door into a large pasture where many types of mount pokemon roamed, though the vast majority were ponyta. Our best stock are in the stables, if you'll follow me. he states while walking.

When you enter the stables, you smell ponyta manure, hair, and flames. They were all bred to be the most reliable mounts possible. Would you like to ride one?

"But of course. And it only cost me one bottle of cheap wine poured in a fancy wine bottle to get it. Very reasonable fellow, but clearly not a wine connoisseur. Anyways, yes, he parted with his map willingly in exchange for a favor some time in the future. Unless the pup's a lot more creative than typical, it shouldn't be too big an issue. And if he is... I may just try to steal him out from the Treasure Island Crew to work for me." He hands the map tube to his pilot for inspection.

"Think this might be useful to you in plotting our next job?"

The man grins and takes it back to his map room to examine in detail.

"Now then, someone fetch me my swords! I don't plan on being caught without them if we encounter trouble on our way back home." Medina shakes her head in a negative. Unfortunately not. The homes of the victims are a little off town. She releases a ponyta that knelt obediently for her to mount.

The two of you ride a couple minutes with two armed guards out to a cottage. This is where the second attack took place. The cottage itself was in good shape, but the inside bore the signs of a fight.

We had one of our huntsman look to see if he could find any information. We'd be more than happy to share it with you. The sooner this monster is caught, the better. We should be alright during the day, but I don't let anybody leave the village when night falls.

As Nestor is distracted seeking a mount (something he plans to repeat after he shakes his "steward"), Theo approaches the salesman. In a low whisper he says, "If the young lord falls, so be it. If the young lord is hurt, however, then I will be forced to consider the guidance we received here. Are we understood?" As he says this he takes a quick scan into the man's mind, wary of surprises.

The steward's eyes open wide in surprise when you spoke to him. What? and then he blinks, and he realizes what had happened. A filthy noble and a psychic. Wonderful.

Nestor quickly selected a ponyta and took it to the attendant. Saddle him. He inclined his head and got to work. When the ponyta was saddled, Nestor mounted it. At the same time, the attendant formed a bond with the pokemon, merging minds with it. To one without your powers, nothing of note happened, but your insight allowed you to see the truth.

Do I still have your permission to teach him a lesson oh great and powerful psychic? thought the attendant dryly, with his mind dripping sarcasm.

Glad to know something simple actually was simple to accomplish, Captain Rayleigh has his crew sail off for Merrin's Grave.

"Did you get it?" Jon his pilot asked eagerly.

I don't plan on being caught without them if we encounter trouble on our way back home." Once they were brought to him in their odd dual-scabbard, Captain Rayleigh fastens it to his belt and stares off towards his home as his black ship glides along the waves.

As you strap on your swords, a storm breaks out without warning. Your sense hadn't told you that a storm was on the way, and somebody with as much time on the sea as you knew when natural storms were on the horizon. There also didn't seem to be an pokemon working mischief on the ocean at the moment.

Then, a booming voice rang out over the waves, and it came from inside the ship.

Who dares to look upon the treasures of Gavent without the blood of ancients running in their veins?

A man runs up to you, he wasn't anything special among your personal crew. His name was Marcus, an ex Attican who joined a couple years back. Sir. I was outside the map room when the door exploded. It's like there's a hurricane in there right now.

"Thanks, I'll look around here then see if I can find your huntsman." Ovelia notes as she looks around. It was interesting that the outside was barely untouched. "What kinds of wilds live around here? I can probably use the styler to track down this monster."

Cha: [roll0]

Edit: meant +4 but doubt it will matter.

You can't find anything of note aside from the fact that there had been a battle and that there were several different types of pokemon involved. They also seemed to have used the door both times, which was extremely odd for pokemon.

Wilds? We've got the standard for forests in this area. Lot's of bugs and grass types. A couple canines. Every once in a while we stumble upon a voltorb or an evee. Can you use your styler to find a pokemon with tracking abilities?

Ghalib devoured his meal with great relish. The remnants of a juicy Tauros-bone steak, medium rare, lay scattered on his plate next to the discarded leek garnish, which Ghalib considered to be merely an obstacle on his quest for a delicious dining experience. The beverage of choice was a whimsical red wine with an elegant bouquet and a full body. It was purportedly harvested from the foothills of the Yengal Mountains, although he doubted that very much. More than likely it was raided by pirates from Port Cain and traded for a few extra hands, but it was not worthy of complaint. Galla made a fine wine, after all!

He was disappointed to see that the quality of the wine was lost on the majority of the diners. Around him sailors gleefully sang themselves into a drunken stupor.

"Come, come, my jolly lads, the wind's abaft,
Brisk gales our sails shall crowd;
Then bustle, bustle, boys, haul the boat,
The boatswain pipes aloud.
All hands on board, our ship's unmoored,
The rising gale fills ev'ry sail,
Our ship's well manned and stored."

He couldn't help but join in with the jovial chorus. Every denizen of Port Said knew the song by heart, and it was considered bad luck to not at least whistle when the tune was heard.

"Then sling the flowing bowl..
Then sling the flowing bowl...
Fond hopes arise, the girls we prize
Shall bless each jovial soul;
Then the can, boys, bring,
We'll drink and sing,
While the foaming billows roll."

Ghalib was content. His belly was full, his spirits were high, and his journey had just begun. But the evening was still young, and his drink had him feeling confident. At any gathering of people, there were always potential customers just waiting to be schmoozed. He may not have had the product just yet, but he was sure he could sell the prospect. With that in mind, he set off to explore the ship and find someone with a fat wallet needing lightening.

Yes, as long as you tell him that this particular ponyta has a rambunctious personality. That puts the choice in his hands, Theo tells the attendant. And I would be grateful if you don't mention the psychic to him, it gives me a chance to mess with him later. But he did share a common interest with the Ningalian, and that would be enough to at least spark up a conversation. Ningalian wine was, in Ghalib's opinion, the very best there was. The climate was perfect for cultivating the ideal crop. Culturally speaking, the wine trader might not be interested in an exotic pet Pokemon. They were more typically used as tools. However, the Ningali are a pretty open minded people, and a more easily opened mind means the same of their wallet!

Ghalib had not seen very many Ningali in his trade, but one could often pick them out of the marketplace - they were the ones walking with their noses in the air, thinking more highly of themselves than others. He was pretty confident he could pick this merchant out of the others just by his demeanor. He left the galley in search of clues to the trader's whereabouts.

"Then I shall prepare and return ready to fight. If I cannot win the right to gaze upon the map at that time, I shall abandon my attempt to do so and shall seek to return it to whomever you deem worthy."

Captain Rayleigh leaves and tells his wardrobe boy. "Put my coat away and tell the bosun to ready my armor. The Monster has an engagement in an hour." The boy looks startled and excited at the same time and runs off to do just as his captain commanded. By the time Captain Rayleigh reached the armory so don his armor, news that the captain was go battle the being in the map room had spread all throughout the ship. It had been a long while since anyone had witnessed the captain fight personally in an all-out battle. He tended to avoid naval engagements when possible and raids on coastal towns usually had them running in, grabbing what they can, and running out before the local guard could respond. Though he'd have to occasionally fight at such times, he never wore his armor on those raids, declaring speed more vital than power. Still, the officers and more veteran members of his crew can recall the battle almost a year ago when the captain donned his armor and lead a boarding party on a Gallan warship to capture a shipment of gold. He had fought recklessly, unheeding of the enemy blows striking at him as his great black armor absorbed each blow. Aysune moved swift as a serpent, chopping through enemy soldiers as if they were reeds. At one point he even send a wave of dark energy out to take out a group of enemies that had surrounded him.

Long story short, the crew was looking forward to a show.

An hour later, Captain Rayleigh will return to the map room, ready to fight. Heracles his rhyperior is at his side.

"Seeing as you are a single combatant, I shall fight you with honor and only use a single pokemon myself." Captain Rayleigh explains.

He will draw forth Charbodis and advance forward deliberately. Heracles will keep pace with him and blast forth a series of rocks as an opening volley.

He knows that won't be enough, however, so he sends Torch out into the field and says, "Confuse the front two, it might draw them out of the way."

Torch: HP: 25/25, Def 8, SDef 8, Spd 5
Released on K20.
Confuse Ray on H17 and I18. Cannot miss.
Flies 3m up.

The ponytas shake their heads in frustration. One barrels on, but the other grinds to a halt, stopping the two behind it also. A single member of the herd tries to stomp on Torch with a hoof, but the attack flies straight through the ghost.

Whimpering, Nestor gets up and starts running towards the fence. His mind was blind panic, his only though escape.

The man wasn't hard to find. All you had to do was follow the sassnid slave girls carrying palm leaves to a room on the fourth floor. There he was, lazing about and eating grapes. He wore only pants and an unbuttoned vest that allowed for his copious fat rolls to spread out. His round doughy face was puckered in an eternal grimace, and he spit out one of the sourer grapes in disgust.

He is studiously ignoring your presence. Bring me more grapes. Green ones this time. He ordered his slaves.

Ghalib sidestepped the wayward grape as it inconsiderately flew his way. Yep, I've definitely found the Ningalian. Rather than try vainly to get the man's attention, Ghalib tried to match his level of boredom. He leaned against a support beam and let a small hmph escape his lips before speaking.

"Tell me, friend, do you ask for the green grapes culled from the vineyards of Lake Lyra? I hear they are the sweetest in all of Aatos, fertilized by thoroughbred Shroomish and watered only by the same bloodline of Poliwags since the vineyards were first irrigated! Or is it that honored vine of Phoebus you seek? Truly no branch has been graced with a fruit of such caliber. It's no wonder that the Oracle favors that wine above all other gifts. Or are you stuck with those dreadful things the Achaemians call "grapes" like the rest of us?"
He spat the name of the imperials out with as much disdain as he could muster. He didn't personally have very strong feelings against them, although monopoly is bad for business, but he did know that the enemy of an enemy was a friend.

Janan just nods, not saying anything. He motions to Patience, who takes a seat on his shoulder, facing backwards. He follows through the hole, sticking close.

The tavern room is dimly lit, but you can see well enough. The room is full of scarred men in desert garb. Prostitutes giggle as they serve the patrons. A full bar is stocked with as many types of spirits as you could think of. Men and women playing cards, throwing dice, and throwing knives at a board are scattered around the space. At a large table facing the door was a woman. She sat in an elaborately carved chair reminiscent of a throne. She had an imperious and commanding presence, and those around were obviously held her in deepest respect.

The boy leads you up to her. A boy who wants ta join Mar. He beat Burr easily enough, so I brought 'im to you.

Thank you Aron. Return to your post. He bowed, and scurried off without another word. The woman, Mar, directed her attention at you. So. You want to join the Bloody Hand do you? Why?

"There we go." Ovelia says as she releases May the Nidorina, "Nidorina, stand on guard in case they charge. I'm going to try and restrain one, not sure how the other will react so be ready."

With the order given, Ovelia stepped out and pointed the styler and moved the wand in a quick motion, trying to send feelings of calm, piece, and friendship to one of the pokemon.

A whip of power leapt from the wand and encircled the canine. It's eyes glaze over and it immediately sits on the ground with its panting tongue out.

The other growlithe barks in surprise and runs off into the brush where it lurks growling Growlithe.

The ponyta's mane flares up as it absorbs the flames directed at it and uses them to enhance its own power. Still, it causes the pokemon to veer away from Nestor and the ponytas circle Torch. One spits fire at him dealing 25 fire special damage.

Still, they appear to be on their way to calming down. The attendant is attempting to force his way into the minds of the ponytas to calm them down, but he can only connect with so many at once.

The situation quickly dissipated as the ponytas calmed down and went back to calmly grazing in the field. Nestor made it back to the edge of the enclosure safely, and came up to you panting.

"That is duly noted, and I shall keep that under advisement. Understand, though, that using only a single pokemon is not the same as using less than my full power." Bartholomew says as he advances on the tornados. He'll focus for a moment, and a pulse of water followed quickly by a pulse of darkness flow forth from him, catching two of the tornadoes and Tornadus himself in the blast.

[roll0]
[roll1]
[roll2]
[roll3]

Heracles takes this as a signal to re-position himself slightly and unleash his own attack. It seems entirely inexplicable when the rock pokemon motions with his arms and a huge wave of water cascades in and drenches the battlefield.

[roll4]
[roll5]

Your wild magic attack's aim is true, and both slam into Tornadus. Though they don't seem to do much damage to him, his eyes do cross slightly from the water pulse. Heracles's tidal wave of an attack is empowered by the rain on the battlefield, and the twisters come away battered. The god in front of you shields itself in a shell of condensed wind. His minions blast gusts of wind at you and your rocky companion. Two careen widly off course, but one hits you for 35 special flying damage, and two more hit Heracles for 33 and 21 damage respectively.

Then, Tornadus raises his arms, and a monsoon in miniature forms inside the map room, dealing 141 special flying damage to you and Heracles.

Heracles' tough hide takes the blows from the smaller creatures without much effect, and the one that attacked Bartholomew didn't even get past his armor. However, Tornadus' own attack was MUCH more effective. Bartholomew lets out a "whoof" as the wind knocks into him. Heracles actually weathers it decently well.

The two re-position themselves tactically and Bartholomew lets off another pair of dark pulses, holding nothing back in this fight. Heracles will shoot forth another blast of rocks, hoping to weather this being out. The two of them just ignore the lackeys, not deeming them a threat.

The barmaid gets you a piece of tepig meat with some lumpy, yet satisfying gravy. You also got a mug full of beer and several more offers to gamble, some using pokemon, and others with money. Men and women periodically come and go through the trapdoor throughout your meal, and several people head to a backroom while fingering their pokeballs. An empath comes up to you midway through the meal and heals both you and patience, then hands you a slip of paper identical to the one you had used on yourself when fighting Burr. Eventually, a rousing round of drinking songs went round the room, making the place seem more boisterous than what a den of thieves should be.

Janan inwardly frowns at the piece of meat slapped on his plate. He sits down and carefully consumes the gravy that had not touched the meat. He remembered how his mother used to prepare meat back home. Well, what he had to call home. She was very meticulous. Always buying live Pokemon instead of the meat sold in the market. Always using her image magic to gently lull it into the Void. Then she would ever so carefully skin the mon, and cut the meat neatly along natural divides. It was a painstaking process, but it was for a purpose. To prove to Giratina that they, the Ku****e, were his chosen people, they must show they would not make the same mistakes as their ancestors. To show respect for all living things, and even in death, to not brutalize or scar an individual.

These Carthaki took no such care. They ruthlessly slice the poor pokemon's throat's, letting their blood spill. They would hack, and chop meat off in big slices instead of its natural barriers. Savages, repeating the past. They will face judgment on Giratina's return. But that was not Janan's concern. He knew this would happen on that inevitable day.

What Janan's concern was, he was stuck in an unholy, hostile land. If he asked the cook for a proper Ku****e meal, he'd be ostracized, or worse, thrown back into the slave pits. He couldn't risk revealing his origins. And he couldn't go on living on purloined fruit. He had noticed his gut was thinning. Even in the pits they were given sufficient gruel to keep their bones from peeking out beneath their skin. Two weeks of fruit and he was already wasting away.

A gurgling sound erupted from his bowels. He couldn't continue to starving himself, not if he wished to rescue his family. Inhaling deeply and frowning outwardly, Janan stabs the meat with his fork. Slowly he raises the hunk towards his mouth, his hand shaking ever so slightly. An inch away, he contemplates putting it back down before his stomach told him otherwise. Preparing himself, he recites a mental prayer for forgiveness before finally sticking the meat into his mouth. He chews slowly, gagging on nothing but his own convictions. He swallows, the lump traveling painfully slowly down his throat and finally into his stomach. A pained look on his face was evident for a while afterwards.

He absent-mindedly thanked the Empath for the restoration. The sour disposition he was in was not improved by the sudden thought that he must end a man's life if he were to survive.

The entire time, Patience was munching on a biscuit. Seeing Janan's inner turmoil reflected in his Aura, roiling orange, pulsating wildly. Curious

The berry bushes were thick and covered in large red fruits. Many small bird pokemon were pecking at the fruit, although they flew off whenever you got near them, but returned to their perches as soon as they had seen you leave their area.

Slightly ahead of you, there was a rustling in the brush, and a small blue and tan pokemon wandered out from them. It had an armful of berries, which it shoved greedily into its mouth. Then, not paying attention to where it was going, it tripped and sprawled on the ground. "I just might, miss," Theo whispers back as he takes the young noble's possessions from her. Instead of immediately making his presence known, Theo snatches up the ball containing the ponyta and pockets it for the moment. He lets Nestor howl and rage for another few minutes, and would have for longer if he didn't notice the Madam's growing agitation.

He enters the room and looks around. It's a decent sized room, with the bed taking up only a little more than half the space. There's a few armchairs with a small table that holds empty glasses and a decanter of some amber drink. A large painting of dull blues and greens faces the bed. The bed itself is the main attraction and it's four posts almost reach the ceiling. Thick, soft curtains hang down and the odd shapes of the pillows speaks of their feathers. It was a level of decadence that Theo was easily associating with. In the middle of it all was a still screaming, and howling Nestor.

"Oh would you please shut up!" Theo says as he sits in one of the armchairs. He sets Nestor's things on the other and just waits for the young man to stop yelling. "Do you know why I did this?"

"That's the word! Slave. I don't like that word," Theo says as he stands up. He releases Torch and mentally tells him to glow a little brighter. With his psychic abilities he brings the decanter over to Nestor's body and holds it high.

"You see, a slave is someone who is owned by their master. They have no choice about what happens to them, or what their master asks them to do. I, dear Nestor, am not a slave. Even if I were, I'm not your slave. I am employed by your uncle for a specific job. To read minds and manipulate circumstances in his favor." He tips the decanter and the amber liquid spills over Nestor's skin. The smell of alcohol burns slightly at Theo's nose as Torch draws nearer to him. He walks to the head of the bed so that Nestor can here him clearly.

"You are not a favorable circumstance. You are a liability. And burning you to death here may cost me much, but it would save your uncle more." He sends an image of a burnt corpse being sent away to Nestor's mind. Once he sees the fear in the young noble's eyes he recalls Torch.

"But I'm not being fair. I'm sure plenty of other people would like a chance to burn you up as well. And that's just greedy of me to do it myself." He sets the decanter back on the table and asks the naked, alcohol drenched noble, "Are you ready to go home yet?"

"Good, I'm eager to report to Lord Tarril," Theo says with a smirk. He opens the door and asks the Madam, who still had a rather shocked look on her face, to run a bath for the young lord. As she scurried off to tell some girl or another to do it, Theo untied the ropes and waited for Nestor to extricate himself from the bed. They were soon lead to another private room with a large, stone pit filled with steaming water. The dozens of oils on the shelves and the sturdy massage table told of this room's true use. But for this occasion it was actually used for cleanliness.

Once Nestor was scrubbed and dressed, two chores Theo was glad to learn the young man knew how to do, they left the Medusa in the rhyhorn carriage. The long, quiet ride was only once interrupted when Nestor asked about the ponyta and Theo wordlessly showed him the ball. Before the young man could think to ask for it, the psychic pocketed it again and that was the end of the discussion.

Much later they pulled up at the front steps of Lord Tarril's estate and were greeted by the butler from earlier. "If it's not a bother, I believe the the young lord here would like an audience with his uncle," Theo says to the butler.

As the butler walks on ahead while the two young men follow at a distance, Nestor speaks up, "I never said that." He hadn't even thought it. Quite the contrary, he just wanted to eat dinner and go to bed.

Janan freezes in his tracks, afraid to even move away. Patience sensed both their apprehensions, their Aura's oozed it. He had to defuse the situation, before it got violent. Abdul had told him to protect Janan, and he would do so. He liked him, even if he was a bit odd at times. He didn't like sharing his abilities with just anyone. Abdul had made a point of drilling the importance of secrecy into the young mon. Now, if ever, was a good time to reveal it, if only to distract Janan from his ever growing uneasiness.

Patience turned around towards the Munchlax, offering him a hug. He extended his Aura out, brushing against's Janan's. The young boy's Aura roared to life at he contact, something Patience had never experienced before. Janan had remained fixed in his position for a few moments, ideas flying through his head. A cold bead of sweat traced itself down his neck. What should he do? Should he attack? Would it attack him?

His mental questioning was interrupted by the oddest feeling he had ever felt. Something in his gut started to churn, but he wasn't sick. It sure didn't feel like sick. It felt..... uplifting. Or the very least, intoxicating. The feeling swept over him, spreading from his gut, extending to every nook, cranny and extremity.

His stance loosened as he tried to reorient himself after the wave of uplifting nausea. He blinked, trying to clear the haze that had settled over his eyes, but it was no good. Each blink made the haze worse, painting the landscape around him in an explosion of roiling colors.

Two color's stood out, however. They seemed to emanate from Patience and the Munchlax. Patience's color seemed to move of its own volition, moving towards Janan, too perplexed at the sight to even react. He heard the color, how he wasn't sure, speak, in a voice that was Patience if he could speak human tongue. Patience... you can talk?

Janan raised his hand to rub his eyes, noticing he was surrounded in color as well, a vivid orange. What? He moved his hand infront of him, the color following in as if orange water stuck to his skin. By chance it seemed, the color seemed to extend from his hand outwards, mixing with the two distinct color's from the pokemon in front of him. His own color 'spoke' I am calm. Dazed but calm.

The map was old, drawn on leather parchment. It had faded transparent runes inscribed over it and beautiful ink calligraphy classic to ancient Gaventian work. You recognized the major geographical features of Gavent laid out for you in vivid imagery, but it lacks any marking indicating cities or metropolitan areas.

There were a variety of other markings however, a total of four across various portions of the map. Lines of Gaventian script ran across these places, narrating something. It wasn't Gaventian that you were used to seeing however. Some words looked slightly familiar, but most words were completely alien to you though the style was that of Gavent.

Theo works hard to suppress the grin that threatened to sprout on his face. "Sir, while giving said ponyta a test ride, the young lord was thrown to the ground. The continued panic of the pokemon stirred up a sleepy stampede and I was able to draw the attention of the others while Nestor made a panicked run for the fence." He clears his throat while going over the images in his mind. Anya was likely checking his story and relaying her own thoughts to Lord Tarril.

"This rush of excitement convinced the young lord to buy the pokemon and the transaction was easily handled. The moment we had left the building I warned Nestor about running off to some whorehouse, something I could see he planned to do from the start." He takes another moment to let that sink in. The reason Nestor was here was because of trouble with the brothels back home. "It was my mistake, however, to try to reason with the young man and so he took off down the street, riding like a child. I followed him, an easy enough feat because he took zero attempts to hide his path and many commoners complained of the brash young fool riding full sprint down a narrow street. Our carriage soon arrived at the Medusa, a house of pleasure slightly better than a bed on a street. I had the carriage park a few buildings down so as not to bring ill-repute to Lord Tarril's name." He mentally relayed that as for brothels, the Medusa was better than he said. He only exaggerated that aloud to drive the point to Nestor.

"I struck a deal with the Madam of the house to allow me to rob the young lord. It only cost me 125 gold pieces, and I'm certain I could have bargained for lower but I wanted her good favor. She aided in my plan and Nestor was soon tied to the bed naked and the woman he was with came out of the room with everything he had on him. Pokemon included." Theo takes a breath and steadies himself for what was to come next. He was working hard not to notice Nestor's emotional rises as the story was told but he could bet the young man felt a slight sense of joy for Theo needing to tell this next section.

"I took matters into my own hands, then. I entered the room and chose that moment to try and teach the young lord something about consequences. I doused him in alcohol and brought a flame nearby. I had just demonstrated that for 125 gold I could track down a noble, obtain all his possessions, pokemon included, and then kill him. If that was my goal. As you can see, it was not. I convinced him that it was high time we returned here, and to guarantee he wouldn't attempt to escape or fight, I confiscated the pokemon."

He clears his throat, story finished. "I requested the audience so that all this can be brought up immediately with no twists in the truth. I do not believe that Nestor will forgive me, I rather hope he doesn't. Learning from this scenario should at least make him a bit more clever, if he has it in him. And I think that means that I can't stay on this estate anymore. While he's here, that is. I think having me here would muddle what he learns from this day and only breed anger and petty spite. I request permission to live in the city. For a pitiful stipend I could have a small apartment to myself where you, Lord Tarril, and my mentor, Anya, can always find me. I am not requesting a leave of service, but a chance to live independently and improve my skills through new situations."

Throughout your speech, Tarril and Anya kept their minds busy with games of voltorb flip, leaving you no room to interpret their thoughts aside from what they showed to the outside world.

After you finished, silence hung in the room as the lord considered the situation gravely. Very good Theo. I'm glad you were able to perform the transaction successfully and keep Nestor from getting in too much trouble. As for you he looked at Nestor. You will wait in your room until I call for you. It's about time we had a nice long chat about your stay here. Leave us. Nestor was escorted out of the room by a butler promptly.

Returning his attention to you, Tarril addressed you at length. As for you living and working in the city, I think it could be arranged. You will serve as my agent in the city, and I shall provide you with a stipend. I expect daily reports by pidgey, and you will receive your instructions in a similar manner. You will receive a weekly stipend of 50 Gold, which is more than enough for you to live a comfortable life.

I'll reimburse you for your expenses of course. I've informed the treasury to authorize a payment of $3,000. This should be enough to get you settled, make some friends, and cover your services for today.

Your mentor Anya steps forwards. You are to return to the manor at the end of each week. We'll give you a while to settle in before calling on your services in the city. Do you have anything else to report?

Janan was taken aback by the mon sudden mood swing, its Aura drooping in tandem. There there. Its alright. I'm here Seeminglessly speaking through his voice and his Aura as if by instinct, Janan closes the gap between them and wraps the Munchlax in a tight comforting hug.

The munchlax doesn't seem to know how to react to human contact, but see its aura blossom into a bright star as it recognizes the gesture behind your actions. After a second or two, it began to reciprocate the contact, and its plush fur soon began to settle from its slightly position from when it had been shocked.

Bartholomew grumbles to hiself. "Of course fighting a GOD to get to view the map isn't good enough. No, now I have to find someone who can read the silly thing." He'll roll up the map and stow it away on his person for now. He'll then return to the deck of the ship and recall all his pokemon.

"Someone get Jon over to sick bay and someone else fetch the first mate."

Your men swarm the ship, moving Jon to the sick bay, attempting to clean up the map room and salvage what they could, taking lumber kept on board to patch up the wall. A frown crossed Ovelia's face. The creature seemed defeated, but yet this weird puddle remained. She was far from the expert in black goo, but most pokemon didn't turn into puddles.

"Do you sense anything with your telepathy?" She asked Sir Hector as she knelt down next to the goo.

It's some kind of pokemon. It's unconcious, but not dead. I think that this is its true form, but that it can somehow turn into other pokemon during battle. It's mind was consumed with hatred directed at you, it was thirsting for your blood even though it had just eaten. A true monster.

Theo bows respectfully to both Lord Tarril and Anya, then he walks to the kitchens. He takes whatever's offered as his meal and chooses to eat it at the staff table. I don't need to face Nestor again while I'm here and I might as well give the poor boy a break from my presence. But it all looks to be going well for me. My own little place in the city, all I have to do is keep in touch with the Estate and keep up in my assignments. And so his thoughts continued as he finished his meal.

When he was done he retired to his room early and started packing. He didn't have a lot, but he collected his belongings into a bag and set it at the end of his bed. The little pokemon nodded gravely and awkwardly patted your shin in appreciation. He seemed to have calmed down, but it was obvious that he might never be completely comfortable around you.

The scar was old, but permanent. The wound looked like it had once been quite severe and had gone untreated. The soothing blue aura that enveloped Hunger was severely darkened around this area, and the darkness fluctuated slowly like tides in the ocean.

Janan frowned. He wasn't quite sure what he was looking at. These.... colors, Auras, he was seeing were striking. From what he's seen, they came from living beings and for some reason he could see them now, but not before. And then Hunger. The way the scar discolored the Aura around it was unsettling for Janan. He made a mental note to have an Empath take a look at it... when he had at least more coin to his name.

Janan walked back to town, blinking to clear the colors from his eyes. As remarkable as they were, it was a bit disorienting to walk when everything was surrounded by amorphous color blobs. By the time he makes it back to the front gate, the Aura's had died down to meer outlines, and a final blink cleared even those away.

He returned Patience, knowing well that roaming the city with that many mon out was asking for trouble. On a second thought, he returned Hunger too. If just him freaked Hunger out, the city would drive him insane.

Best of luck,

It very well might have been. The early morning ride was calm and peaceful and free of surprises. Someone had thought to bring fruit for a snack and Theo enjoyed a light breakfast on the road to Orothan.

It was a well played move that let Lord Tarril grant this request. For one, he now had at least one more man inside the city to do his bidding. For another, he was confident Theo would grow in power while staying in the city, which meant that he would become more valuable of an asset. And also, it allowed him a bridge to his nephew. By sending Theo away, he had "protected" Nestor and the young noble just might repay him by growing up. Which, in turn, would raise his already high esteem with the relatives that sent the brat here. And Theo orchestrated a good portion of this to get what he wanted: a place of his own.

The thing about finding a place of your own, is that it's hard to find the right one. Most of the morning was spent moving from district to district looking for available residences but the size of the city exaggerated the task. They eventually narrowed it down to a quiet area close to the market, but equally close to a park. It was well into the afternoon when Theo finally found a cozy apartment that suited his tastes. There was then another hour of haggling, then dinner with the landlord, then some more haggling. As the sun began to set they agreed on a price and signed a contract. Theo then spent the waning evening unpacking.

It was a corner apartment on the top floor of a three floor building. There were several others in the same building all connected by a large central stairway. It seemed that every home had a window on the third floor, and the view was rather magnificent. There was large entrance on street level which lead to the spiraling stairway. And while there was no central kitchen for all the apartments, Theo was informed that there were plenty of places around that would serve him food.

Once he was unpacked, he stored away his money and carried only 150 gold coins. He left the building as the sun finally disappeared and began to walk around, intent to learn the layout of his new neighborhood.

You had chosen well. The area was relatively peaceful, with mostly residential buildings. Unfortunately, this attracted a large number of beggars who would sit on the side of the road begging for money. A small park sat about five minutes away from your apartment. It was filled with domesticated pidove that wandered the grass and pecked at seeds.

The main floors of many lots held small stores or restaurants. Everything from 'gourmet' food to blacksmiths, to clothing stores, to symbol magician shops. The evening traffic was busy, but not uncomfortably so.

Janan carefully counts out the 5 Drachmas for the room, thanking the man for his service. He sees himself to his room, a dinky little 8x8 room with sacks of straw and a musky blanket for a bed. It wasn't much but the extra cost was for security more than anything else.

He releases each of his pokemon, starting with Hunger then Patience and finally Fury. The little dragon snipped at Hunger causing him to squeak in surprise and fear. Careful Fury. This is Hunger, our newest addition. Hunger waved nervously, while Fury just glared. Everyone get some rest. We... uh... have a big day ahead of us tomorrow.

Janan lifted the blanket, giving the sacks a few good punches to scary any Bug types that might had taken refuge in them. Fury walked to the corner of the room opposite the bed, scratched against the floor and spun in a circle once before lying down, curling his tail around himself. Patience positioned himself in the middle of the room and sat cross legged, his head dropping slightly, looking more like meditating than actual sleep. Hunger rocked back and forth on his heels uneasily, unsure what to do. Would you like to sleep with me Hunger? I don't bite. Janan flashed a teasing smile at the young mon, offering him the bed.

Few notes: I'm having Fury be a low Loyalty 2, Patience a low Loyalty 3 and Hunger around middle Loyalty 2. I meant to mention this a few posts ago: I'm fluffing a few things around Janan differently. I'm basically having him be a geyser of Wild Magic. Every use of Hey Guys! is basically the geyser erupting with some new talent or ability. I am also fluffing Aura Reading as being an On/Off ability, a skill Janan needs to practice with so he can keep it in a state somewhere inbetween. Keeping it on all the time is disorienting, like living in a Disney movie multiplied by 100,000.

Also: Drachma's are Greek. Shekels would be a closer historical analogue. Also2: I am not trying to do some weird stuff with Hunger. Just so its not misconstrued that way.

The little munchlax considers it for a second, but shakes his head and curls up in a corner, where he closes his eyes. After a bit of rustling to get comfortable, he drifts off into sleep. Soon after, he begins to snore softly, though not loud enough to wake you if you're sleeping.

"The King would never send somebody who couldn't help you. You're people should be safe now. The monster is dead, I'll be taking what is left of the creature, a shape-shifter, back to the palace for people more experienced with to examine. Hopefully it was one of a kind." Ovelia says with a polite bow to the woman.

She smiled warmly. That is indeed good news. I shall spread the word so we can return to our normal lives. Do you require any healing? We would be more than happy to provide you with some. Also, I have had a bed prepared for you at my house. We would be more than honored for you to join us for the night.

Janan sleeps in fits, the events of the last few weeks weighing on him. He was a fugitive in a foreign land. He has had to abandoned everything that he is just to survive. And tomorrow he will have to end a man's life so he can eat.

He wakes in a cold sweat after a fitful night just as the sun rises, beams of light cracking through the window. His mon were still sound asleep, though Hunger looked rather disturbed. He allowed them to rest a bit longer.

Inhaling deeply, Janan assumed the traditional pose of worship. He recited the hymnals in his head, as he had been doing all his life. He asked for forgiveness for eating scared meat. He asked for guidance in his time of need. And he asked for pardon for the act he will commit in only a few short hours.

There was no response from your patron god, but since you didn't usually receive any indication that he acknowledged you it wasn't anything to worry about. The distant one had not yet forgiven humankind, and he only acknowledged the most successful and dedicated of his servants.

Hunger woke with a start. He looked around frantically like he had forgotten where he was, but he quickly calmed down. Yawning, he got up and tottered around the room, stretching his legs leisurely.

You all dig in, Hunger especially. It had been so long since you'd had decent meals that your plates were cleaned within minutes of it being placed in front of you. Hunger licked his lips contentedly, and Fury snorted a small wisp of fire. Patience simply sat silently after he had finished.

After you were done, the waitress quickly shepherded you out of the building to make room for new customers in the ever filling room. The daylight was bright in Kamfrietta, though the smell of feces dampened the bright effect somewhat. As did the idea of the deed you would have to commit in several hours.

The Bathing House (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Al4jVK75mdpjdHhaOTI0dC1ISWVlNk1iTmNUeWF1L VE#gid=0) has a decent amount of traffic, as the early morning risers prepared for the day. You remember enough about the layout from yesterday, though if you wanted to get into the pool area, it would cost you another 1 shekkel.

The male and female bathing areas were enclosed and separated from each other by 8 foot tall wooden fences. They could be scaled, but awkwardly due to their being designed to keep others from peeping over the top. Other than the main entrance or scaling the walls, no exits presented themselves to you.

You arrived back at Corus just as the sun was rising over the horizon. Maximus was breathing heavily, and it seemed like he would appreciate a nice rest after the day and night's exertions. Young boys stood on either side of the doors to the worship chamber, holding doors open for any to come and go through. Armed and armored guards stand looking stoic and impressive.
