How would you build a power ranger? I was thinking either monk, something from the tome of battle, or a gish with Wu-Jen as a base for the giant size spell.

If you're not homebrew adverse, there's always this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=264677) lovely piece of work by The-Mage-King.

I'd say monk/swordsages or monk/warblades with the ability to use their signature weapons as special monk weapons. The thing about the power rangers, though, is that they're all about their equipment; they're competent melee-ists without transforming, but their abilities go through the roof with their gear.

Their morphers are artifacts that can summon their suits in a limited time-stop environment, requiring a special ritual (assuming dramatic poses) for activation, as well as giving them various combat maneuver bonuses. They can also summon their various weapons (signature weapons, blasters, etc.) as free actions.

Their suits are wondrous items filling the body slot granting a deflection bonus to AC and a dodge bonus to AC, and increasing their physical statistics, especially str and dex (probably +5 each). Whenever a hit is scored, they have the magical effect of causing (non-damaging) showers of sparks exploding out of the affected region.

Their signature weapons will depend largely on the incarnation you're going for, but they're clearly powerful magical weapons, maybe even artifacts. The red ranger's sword should be vorpal to give him a slightly greater chance of being able to defeat the BBEG/villain of the week than the rest of the rangers, because, well, he's red. Whatever the weapons' abilities, they a special, non-damaging effect causing explosions of sparks on successful hits. They can also combine into a special wondrous item (using a similar ritual to combine similar to that for summoning their suits) that fires a ray that gives massive bonuses to hit (they virtually never miss with it). The ray is literally a save or die, requiring a hefty fort save--essentially distintegrate, except more explodey than disintegratey. Success causes LOTS of sparks, and some non-damaging pyrotechnics in the background.

Their blasters are special wands of magic missile that aren't destroyed when they're empty, and can be recharged... somehow. Depending on the incarnation, they can also transform into +1 adamantium daggers.

Maybe throw in a clause where the more didactic and/or campy the situation, the stronger they get?

Somebody else can come up with the zords. I'm not familiar enough with vehicle mechanics.

Also forgot that the 6th man, who comes in halfway in the adventure, will be as powerful alone as all the rest of the characters combined when s/he first appears. And all plots will revolve around said 6th man.

Edit: And the Homebrew doesn't seem to account for Pirate Ranger style antics. Which should probably be some feat you take that allows you to use it. And would be a lot of fun.

Ring of Armoring from MIC is awesome for this. stores and re-equips your armor and weapon on command.

How would I build power rangers?

Gather 3-7 teens.

Psycho-active skins that have large amount of utility power-like abilities.

Have them level up in certain classes depending on their individual talents
(Red-Warblade,Blue-Factotum,White-Cleric,Green-Druid,Black-Wizard, Pink-Barbarian).

Each Psy-skin comes with a weapon of legacy.

or a gish with Wu-Jen as a base for the giant size spell. The body of war spell turns the caster into a warforged titan, which is likely closer to a zord.

Success causes LOTS of sparks, and some non-damaging pyrotechnics in the background.Finishing moves like that only work if the monster is weakened though. If you try using it right away, you're practically guaranteed to lose the fight. So it would be more accurate to just say "normal attacks can't reduce monsters below 0hp; when they reach that point the battle enters cutscene mode".

EDIT: Don't forget to make all the enemy generals demons/devils so they can greater teleport away from a fight. :smalltongue:

Also Orbital Wand Strikes of Enlarge Monster.

Or give all the monsters some die hard type feat where they can still act under 0 HP, and the combi-weapon thing only works on targets below 0 HP. Or an improved version that lets them get negative HP beyond 10 so they only way to take them out is with the combi-weapon.
