I'm playing a 3.5 artificer and we've recovered these brooches from recently deceased followers of a religion killed in a cult basement. Now, somewhere, on some forum, I remember reading about a magic item which can be used to look into the history of its previous owners. It's not the primary ability of the item.
The text of the describing post went something like this:
...it can also be used to drive you DM bugf*** crazy. Adventurers have lots of money. Pick up a coin, read it. Did any of the previous owners wear robes? What was in their spellbook? Nothing? Next coin.
Can anyone help me think of what it is? This is diving me and my group crazy.
