Can someone explain how those work?
Say, I want a human Silver Tongued trait. Human are often adept at subtle manipulation and putting even sworn foes at ease. Humans with this trait gain a +2 bonus on Diplomacy and Bluff checks. In addition, when they use Diplomacy to shift a creature's attitude, they can shift up to three steps up rather than just two. This racial trait replaces skilled.

Says it replaces skilled. What does that mean?

It means your Human doesn't get the Skilled racial trait (which gives you the bonus skill point per level), and he instead gains the benefit Silver-Tongued.

Skilled is listed higher up on the page under the normal racial traits. Just take it out and replace it with Silver-Tongued.

Alternate Racial Traits are to races as archetypes are to classes. They fill the same purpose and work exactly the same way, except instead of class features they're replacing racial abilities.

And you can take as many Alternate Racial Features as you want, as long you don't have two of them replacing the same thing.
