View Full Version : [PF] Character Advice - Orc(?) Paladin(?)

I'm trying to figure out how to stat out a character concept I have for an upcoming Kingmaker campaign. I'm looking to play an Orc (I'd settle for Half Orc) warlord of some sort. His backstory is that he grew up surrounded by tribal violence, and hopes to establish a sort of haven in the Stolen Lands, where Orcs of all tribes can live together, not without violence but at least without tribal violence.

The other party members so far are a Halfling Rogue, an old friend who leapt at a chance to help create a place where Halflings can live freely, and a Human Sorcerer, on the lamb from Brevoy. Another person may be playing a cleric.

I know I'm asking for a bit much, but I'm looking for a build that can compete in melee, and also be an effective face.

The classes I've looked at so far are Paladin (maybe taking the Redeemer (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/core-races/half-orc/redeemer-paladin-half-orc) archetype, though it doesn't grasp exactly what I'm going for), a Lore Warden (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/fighter/archetypes/paizo---fighter-archetypes/lore-warden) Fighter, and I've been toying with using traits to give Barbarians social skills.

What do you guys think? Where should I go with this?

Thanks in advance!

Wild Stalker Ranger (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/ranger/archetypes/paizo---ranger-archetypes/wild-stalker) most of the Rage of a Barbarian, with 6 skills/level.
If you don't want magic stack it with either the Skirmisher (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/ranger/archetypes/paizo---ranger-archetypes/skirmisher) or Trapper (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/ranger/archetypes/paizo---ranger-archetypes/trapper)archetypes.

If your "ok" with spells, then throw in a level of Inquisitor with the Conversion (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/inquisitor/archetypes/paizo---inquisitor-archetypes/inquisitions/conversion-inquisition) Inquisition for WIS to Social skills instead of CHA (cause Rangers need WIS, duh).
Also maybe throw on the Heretic (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/inquisitor/archetypes/paizo---inquisitor-archetypes/heretic) or Infiltrator (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/inquisitor/archetypes/paizo---inquisitor-archetypes/infiltrator) archetypes for even MORE WIS to Skills!

A Barbarian/Oracle multiclass into Rage Prophet PRC would be a passable fighting face with the right choice of revelations, and fluff-wise it seems like the kind of character a horde of Orcs would follow.

Fluff-wise? maybe.
Effective? Heck no!

Rage Prophet is a trap. Unless you are in a group of REALLY bad Optimizers, OR get an obscene point-buy, OR you happen to be the DM's Girlfriend, do NOT take Rage Prophet.

If you're in a group with a straight halfing rogue, I don't think it's likely to fall behind.

If you want to be a character about stopping needless violence. Play a Cavalier of the Order of the Blue Rose.

"The cavaliers of the order of the blue rose dedicate themselves to promoting peace in the lands they roam. Skilled warriors and adept diplomats, these cavaliers counsel wisdom, patience, and understanding, but are ever mindful of the need to take up arms to strike down aggressors, tyrants, or evil usurpers. Although they believe wholeheartedly in peace as an aim and a final goal, cavaliers of the blue rose are warriors first, and embrace their role as guardians of those who cannot or will not take up arms to defend themselves."

Not sure if it's exactly what you have in mind, but I thought I would throw it out there.

A fighter can be fluffed to be just about anything--they just won't have a lot of class skills or skill points, though the tactician archetype can help with that. You can always multi-class out of fighter for a couple levels of something else if you think you need it for fluff reasons.

In a group I'm in the fighter has gone political and is taking a leadership role in the city we're in.
