Shadow Hand spiked chain vs fighter spiked chain?

Am I getting this wrong, but would a fighter be trip master flex, while a swordsage/shadow hand user would not be as good at it, but have more tools in his toolbox when tripping is not an option?

the scary trip fighter comes as a result of many, many feats being invested in the following.

1. Bumping his + to trip (basically what starts you off as a tripper)
2. generating lots of opportunities to trip. There are diminishing returns here in most situations, you can't trip something that is already nomming the floor, but you ARE going to trip it if you get within range (and it doesn't have ungodly stats).
