we just leveled up to level 6 (i have not rolled or done anything since level up)

I only ever play as a meat shield, but there's a thread (Dragon Shaman related) that could help you. http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214007

It was posted back in 2011, but it does come in quite handy from time-to-time.

The Dragon Shaman is a sub par melee combatant. You have a nice breath weapon and many auras, so try orienting yourself toward a battlefield control position. Consider: combat expertise, improved trip or disarm, combat reflex at third, and a metabreath feat for your 6th level, probably shape breath. Also a quarter staff is a great disarm weapon because of its cheap two handed access.
