So I am looking for help with finding printable 3D items for my game.

http://iheartprintandplay.blogspot.com/ Has some really nice monsters and npcs. I also downloaded the 3.5 Map Folio 3D book, where you can cut out and glue together buildings like towers and cabins.

Do you guys know of any other sites or pdfs that could be helpful? I am hoping to find more creatures and misc items like chests, coffins, ballista, anything really. Trees would be a nice addition because I have a wonderful dry erase battle mat and I've gotten pretty good at drawing dungeons and details but trees and shrubs are just green blobs :smallwink:

Always appreciate the input.

Oh, I thought this thread was about using a 3d printer to make minis and things, heh.

That link looks useful, though.

On the other hand, does anyone happen to know if 3d printers can be used to manufacture reliable dice?

Most 3d printed items are given a bath to round off the edges. While it appears to the eye to be even, there is really no way to get uber precise.

You can always polish them afterwards, but you will always get some idiot accusing you of leaving 'spaces' inside the dice to alter the weight distribution (or even including extra 'weight' during the printing process for the same outcome).

You can make dice. You can make dice that are theoretically good unpolished blanks. The polish is the issue. Most people don't have access to a precision polishing process that can maintain the exact face spacing needed to ensure correct number spreads.

Hey tim, thanks for the shout-out to my blog! I'm glad you found it helpful. If you're interested in some other great 3D printables, one thing that might help is Googling "papercraft". Here's one really amazing example of D&D papercraft: http://minipapermodels.blogspot.com/. On the first page alone you should see all kinds of monsters and general items like coffins, and other stuff. It's pretty incredible stuff if you like printables that go for realism.

Cheers!

So, will the printouts that have been shared work with regular printer paper? If not, what kind of paper is needed, and can it work with regular printers?

I'm not certain about http://minipapermodels.blogspot.com/, but the minis on http://iheartprintandplay.blogspot.com/ can all be made with normal printer paper. They're all the tent-style stand-up mini. You can always use better paper or card stock to give them extra weight and durability, but they're made to work with normal paper.
