Zila leans in, interested. "Huh. Projection of the two? Or is the link a little more conceptual than that?"

"Mm... The latter, I guess. Pain lets me cause it, of course, but she also allows me to take it away, though sometimes at the cost of taking it on myself, or something of the sort. In theory, she might even let me wound or kill, if I had enough to draw on, like on a battlefield, but I haven't ever tried it out, and I'm pretty sure it would come with a pretty nasty cost.

Fire, again, lets me create and throw it, but I can also expand or contract existing flames, and they even let me tell fire to stay at the level it is and not burn any fuel."

"Huh. She?"

Zila's interest grows, as the wizardess is presented with one of her favorite things.

Something new.

A Phone Call

Mr. C takes the phone.

"Good to hear. We could either meet in the Everysize Hotel or at the Dancing Fox in, as you like. I think it would be bad to do this in public, since walking around naked draws to much attention."

I've never been to that hotel. How about there, just for the new experience?"

Maeve nods, a few sections of that brand starting to glow a violent, bloody, red.

"She. The brand provides a connection to Pain, as an entity, and for me, at least, she manifests as female. If you like, I could probably open a channel so she could speak to you directly?"

"Aaaaahhh... I tend not to poke entities like that casually. It's one of the first things a conjurer has to learn."

"Probably best, I suppose... My girlfriend would most likely throw a fit if I came back with my all the skin on my arm burned off or something. Pain may not mind being called on - I think she likes it here, and doesn't get much chance to experience it, especially as very few people get the brand for some reason - but she does tend to require some sort of exchange.

And what sorts of things do you conjure, then?"

"All sorts of things."

Zila grins, before answering more fully. "Truth be told, it varies, and Conjurer here means a Wizard specialising in the School of Conjuration more than 'someone who summons things'. Although that's a part of it.

Anyway, I can summon a variety of creatures from the Outer Planes of my world, or walls, I can teleport... stuff like that."

"Huh. Can you haul in things other than creatures? Like, say... Calling a glob of magma from a fire plane over someone's head, or filling their lungs with water temporarily? How about food?

And do you ever deal with ghosts? I... May have some questions for you, if you do."

"The first is possible, but nastier than I prefer. The second... also possible, but would probably involve Transmutation rather than Conjuration, and that's one of the schools I'm not so good at.

The other, unfortunately, is Necromancy. Sorry, I'm not the one to speak to involving ghosts.

As far as food goes... sure, although someone drawing their spells from a divine source could do it more easily."

Maeve laughs brightly, grinning.

"So deities are more into feeding you than the stuff that's supposed to be under your control? Your world must be pretty boring, if they don't have better things to do than that....

As for the whole drowning bit, it would be infeasible to call it from the water plane, then? Or does your world not have one?

And with the ghosts thing, fair enough... You wouldn't happen to know who is, would you? Side-effects from another brand, you see...

"Oh, goodness no. Food conjuration spells tend to stop being granted if they're overused. The clearest answer about that is that too much use of food-making magic actually drains the life of the world.

Anyway, granting spells to their priests is only a small part of what deities do in any world, so..."

At the question about summoning water, Zila shrugs. "Again, I don't really want to go in that direction. Drowning people through magic is a little too... vicious for my tastes. And sorry, no, I don't know who might know Necromancy."

Maeve shrugs.

"My thought is, it's better than getting killed by them... But, different pasts. I'm guessing that was less of an issue for you.

And no worries. None of them have killed me yet, after all, and bleedover to other people is usually pretty low."

Wow, she was dealing with some real imagination here. A real wonderchild judging by those names. "What was that last one?" Beatrix asks even though she heard it just fine.

[Pokemon Center]

Becca looks defiantly up into Beatrix's eyes. "Magikarp. You know, evolves into Gyarados. He can probably kick your whole team's butt when he evolved." She says, sounding more defensive all the time.

"Sorry about that.

Huh. So, the deities of your world aren't very benign, then?"

"Or make a wonderful dinner for two." Beatrix suggests with a smile. "But speaking of dinner, I'm still hungry so I'm going to grab something to eat now that I know Crystal is going to be okay. Wanna come?"

Becca blinks in surprise. Wait really? "Um, okay. I could eat." It's been a while since her last meal. She could most definitely eat.

Julianna just barely manages to refrain from running away with her new gun, or putting it to use on their original owner. His immortality probably extends to his own weapons, right? I mean, if he's just going to hand them over like that...

"A-acting Sergeant Julianna Delgado, 23rd Regiment of the National Liberation Front. My squad had just taken prisoners, and then I was here. I have to go back, they need me over there."

Oh, you're so full of it. It was a big war, and you were just one little pawn on the board. Believe me, Delgado, nobody's going to miss you when you're gone. They'll get a new sergeant, and I'm sure he or she will do just fine.[Truth, Streets]

"Unfortunately, I don't think there's any way to get you back in a timely fashion. Come with me," he'll wave her to follow, allowing her to be behind him. She's the person with the gun after all, it'll probably make her feel safer, "There's a couple places that are willing to offer discounts to people that are displaced from time, as it were, and I've got enough to cover your first month's rent if you need me to. It won't be fancy, but it'll be functional enough. I'm sure someone with a little weapons training can figure out how to get some money around here."

"Repeeent!" caterwauls a disheveled looking hobo wearing a sandwich board and a paper-bag like a hat. He rings a large bell to get the attention of as many people as possible.

"Repeeeeent!" he hollers. "Repent for the End of Thread is near!"

....

Wait.

What?

What's this crazy guy yelling about?

Probably a- New Thread! (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=15248261#post15248261)
