So, i'm looking for a few casting foes choices to challenge my PCs.

There's obviously an NPC casting class of appropriate level, but I looking for some other options. Ogremage is one and I know a few others off hand, but I'm just tryng to get a couple other ideas.

Most Demons and Devils have a plethora of spell like abilities that they can use at will. Babau (CR6) have sneak attack, darkness and dispel magic at will which can screw with a party, succubi (CR7) get charm monster, which can equally screw with them, as do Erinyes (CR8), who also get an animated rope and unholy blight. All of them can also greater teleport at will.

Lillends, CR7, get casting as a 6th level bard and some spell like abilities
Nymphs, CR7, get casting as a 7th level druid and dimension door 1/day

There are always those creepy shapeshifting spider sorcerer things. With human arms. (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/aranea.htm)

Some of the youngest dragons qualify, though you're looking at breath weapons and 1st level buffs for the most part.

Many fey have spell-likes and might well be encountered in groups which would push them up to this range.

Two of the 3 basic nagas are in this CR range.

Pick a race with an insanely low cr, goblin or kobold or something, and stick a couple sorc or wizard levels on it, for bonus points have it have some big meatshield lackeys that the players will see as true threats. But I love messing with peoples heads.

Lamia, Gauth Beholder, Mind Flayer, Green Hag, Naga, Drider, Aboleth, Lillend, Lammasu, just in the core MM without touching outsiders.

There is at least one true dragon in that CR range with spellcasting, although not necessarily have the highest caster level. True dragons are good encounters for any CR.

Steel Dragon (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mm/20040328a), but they're notoriously under-CRed. Noting Very Young and Young are both CR 4, it looks like you need to just roll each CR back one age category starting with Young. That would make it Young 5, Juvenile 7, Young Adult 8, etc.

Dragonkin from the Draconomicon with eight levels in a spellcasting class such as Sorcerer would be CR 7, due to nonassociated class levels and rounding down.
