View Full Version : Barbarian Rage?

As I believe, rage gives a barbarian a bonus to will saves and constitution. Raging against a vampire seems like it could really turn the tide in a fight, but he didn't get a chance last fight. Perhaps next time, or just to get back to the party?

Out of curiosity, would CON lost to a drain apply to the temporary bonus while raging, or to the permanent score? I only play 1st edition and pathfinder, so I don't entirely know how the rules work.

The CON drain applied by a vampire is permanent unless fixed by magical means (and I'm pretty sure that would require a cleric, which isn't likely to be very easy for Belkar in the near future). The +4 to CON from Rage would help offset it temporarily, but it certainly wouldn't boost him back to anything near what he was pre-drain.

Oh man, Belkar was raging just before he got Held. How long does that last? If it was still active when Durkon got ordered to drain him almost all the way, and then wears off as he gets back to the others...

Belkar started raging when he jumped on Malack. Rage lasts 3 rounds + boosted Con mod, so it certainly ended before Count Thundershield started to dine.

Rage lasts 5 + Con rounds, and Durkon's Hold Person lasts at least 14 rounds. Belkar was probably out of rage before Durkon bit him, anyway.

He wasn't raging.

THAT is what Barbarian Rage looks like. I don't believe that Belkar has actually used Rage once yet on-panel.

I was under the impression he was GOING to, but Malack cut him off before he could.

That's what Rage looks like for Thog, as a nod to The Incredible Hulk. It isn't necessarily what it looks like for everyone.

It's strongly implied that Belkar is using it here:

"Halfling rage jumping attack!"

Just because you have a boost to an ability doesn't mean you can win. If you're opponent is still stronger than your buffed self, you're still gonna lose.

That's just him yelling it around trying to sound impressive - he has well-documented anger issues. Haley also likes to yell 'Sneak Attack' on attacks that couldn't possibly be ACTUAL Sneak Attacks.

Uh, I don't recall Haley ever yelling sneak attack in case where she couldn't do it. :smallconfused:

As for the rage, Thog has some visual effect because he's hulking out, but that does not mean or prove that every barbarian turn into hulk whenever they rage.

Its pretty much a moot point. Either theres is no visual effect when Belkar rage, in which case he most definitly used his rage at some time earlier today, after all he got in no less then 3 fights (two of which where he got his ass kicked so he'd have most definitly not just saved it for later) or Belkar has never used his rage in which case hes not gonna start now (I could easely see Belkar being too dumb to actually know Barbarian can rage, he didnt even know Rangers could cast spells.)

Ummm had Belkar even taken levels in barbarian at that time?

Here, Belkar, having just gotten enough XP to level up, decides "I think I'll take this level as a Barbarian level"

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0126.html

Then he goes to the Barbarian's Guild, so that it "makes sense"- he's trained with them a bit- so he gets those skills and abilities.
