Let's Play: Breath of Fire III

Breath of Fire was a rather popular JRPG back in the 90s. Originally it released on the SNES, and had a sequel titled Breath of Fire II come out on that same system. However, in 1997 Capcom brought the Breath of Fire "franchise" over to the PS1, and thus was born Breath of Fire III.

Hey. I'm starting a Youtube Channel devoted to video LPs, and I figured a good one to start with is a game dear to me and my childhood. Back in the 80s I had owned a NES, grew into the SNES, and picked up a 64. In the wee twilight of '97 I picked up the PS1 and my first ever Playstation game: Breath of Fire 3. I played the game, fell in love with it, and have occasionally returned to play the game over the years.

Well, this time I plan to play it for an audience. Unfortunately, unlike many Lets Plays, there won't be a lot of audience interaction primarily because... well, it's a JRPG without a lot of choice. But, don't worry, the story is well worth the loss of interaction.

I remember playing one of the Breath of Fire games! I never finished it, but I think it wasn't the third... III is looking pretty nice in your vids. Shame I don't have the station for it.

The music is pretty loud compared to your voice at some points though.

Ya, due to the way I recorded my voice I couldn't adjust things in post. Now I should be able to, and it will probably be fixed in the third episode.

Nice to see you've worked through your encoding issues. What are you using to record?

I've never played Breath of Fire so I don't have much to comment on.

Fraps for gameplay+sound, then Audacity for my commentary. I then use Avidemux to rip out the gameplay sound, combine that with my commentary in Audacity, then combine that with the video in VirtualDub. Finally, I compress/encode it all with Mediacoder.

EDIT: Episode 3 is still encoding. This would have been uploaded already, but the last time I cut it together it had a tiny 2 second sound delay on it that completely threw off everything. :smallannoyed:

Breath of Fire III [Episode 5] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drVShqxz4no) is up. As much as I rag on Ninas' usefulness in combat, she is an interesting character. It's not even Ninas' fault she's not useful, rather it's the fault of Intelligence gains not be affected by weapons. PWR-based attackers(Ryu, other auto-attackers) always outscale combat-casters.
