So we're about to pass through a large door into a BBEGs lair, we've never been on the other side of it before and decided to use clairvoyance to target beyond the door about 5ft and see whats there. The game sort of halted as the group had a discussion if clairvoyance can actually do that.

Essentially it boiled down to does beyond the door into a room/hallway/whatever we've never been through count as "an obvious location" for the purposes of the spell.

I believe the spell itself uses "the other side of a door" as an example. But I've always imagined it like dimension door only as a scrying sensor, and if you wanted to designate a specific point as a guess, you could give it a shot, but you might just end up looking at the inside of a wall.

To clarify, you can essentially pick a square for it to pop up in, but if you're in a dungeon you cant say "the treasure room" and have it pop up in the room with the most treasure.
