Hey, so, I have a player in one of my campaigns that wants to make extensive use of magic missile as a blasting spell. He also wants to do this as a sorcerer. Beyond the basic "magical lineage" advice, is there anything I should tell him?

Note: PF core rules, 3.5 material allowed.

Fell Frighten, Fell Weaken, Fell Drain.

Well, force missile mage (in the Dragon Compendium) and argent savant (from Complete Arcane) are prestige classes that will give you bonuses for using magic missile, though they're both fairly weak. Slapping Fell Drain onto magic missiles is usually pretty effective, as is having metamagic reducers (arcane thesis, incantatrix, etc.) with the standard metamagic feats (empower, twin, etc.)

Is your player wedded to magic missile, specifically? Spell Compendium has more powerful versions of it, in the chain missiles and force missiles spells, and orb of force is the old standby for silly mailman shenanigans. Those spells are probably going to be more effective than focusing on magic missile, while remaining thematically similar.

3.5 material allowed.

Force Missile Mage from Dragon Compendium might be worth a look.

Mage's Tatoo (Evocation). +1 CL to all Evocation spells.

Easy Metamagic

Orc bloodline. Toppling Spell. Caster level boosts and Intensify Spell (Pathfinder's version, not the 3.5 epic feat).

The fast metamagic ACF for sorcerers from PHB2 at low levels, Rapid Metamagic feat from Complete Mage at high levels.

In general, boost caster level and stack metamagic.

Important question IMO, is how is he going to get past the Shield spell? It automatically blocks magic missiles... >.> Probably an important thing to figure out, if your whole shtick is negated by a 1st level spell.

3 levels of Force Missile Mage does that. Technically it requires a caster level check, but the DC is absurdly low.

Intensify Spell Intensified Spell

Fixed that for you. Easy mistake, but they are totally different feats.

Also, as for Arcane Thesis... PF is awesome in that it sort of turned it into a trait called Magical Lineage (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/traits/magic-traits/magical-lineage). Don't even need to spend a feat on it anymore.

PF adds a lot of special effects that work well with a widely spread magic missile, such as dazing spell. Anything that adds more missiles, such as force missile mage, gets you more targets. I'd even consider heighten spell for a 2 or 3 round daze.

Don't forget the talent that gives you 1 level of free metamagic on a specific spell.

Dazing Spell.

If he ends up losing CL to Argent Savant, say, he can pick it up by joining the poisoner's killed (inner sea magic). It's a faction that gives 1 CL (including spells per day and everything!!) to a spellcasting class you have, up to your level. If you collect enough faction points, it becomes +3 to one class, +1 to another.

Very useful.

Combine with the Wayang Spell Hunter trait (regional) for added awesomeness.

This is from a videogame, but may I humbly suggest missile storm?

Lesser (http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Isaac%27s_lesser_missile_storm)

Greater (http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Isaac%27s_greater_missile_storm)

The range numbers will need correcting, but other than that these spells should be great if you let the PC take them.

Maybe use real spells, instead of ones that only appear in a PC game... those are essentially the same as Chain Missile anyway.
