Shadowcraft Mage advice

I'm building a Shadowcraft mage for an upcoming game. Has anyone actually played one before? Just curious if it works as well in play as it does on paper. I'm going wiz focused gnome illusionist 1-3, then Master Specialist 4-6, then Shadowcraft Mage 7-11, then finishing Master Specialist 12-18, then ending with wiz 19-20. Banned schools are evoc., necro., and abj. I'm taking the nerf from gnome illusionist to ench.

I wouldn't ban abjuration, but that's just me.

For race I would recommend looking at the Arcane Gnome* from Dragon 291
and then tack on the Arctic template from Dragon 306
and finish off with making him a Dragonborn

-2 Str, -2 dex, +6 Con, +2 Int, -2 Wis, -2 Cha @ LA +0

for the first level only feat, I would looking at Keen Intellect from Dragon 318

Also: the Arcane Gnome was written for the 3.0 gnome, so I wouldn't include the +1 to illusion spell DCs anyway when using the arcane gnome... so don't worry about losing it due to the Dragonborn template.

There's another PrC I've heard about that works well with this. Shadowcrafter, I think? Something like that. Very similar name to the SCM.
