View Full Version : Iskandar's Travels in RPG Minecraft, Season 2

Yup, restarting my RPG Minecraft LP (no worries, my Industrial will still be ongoing).

I've gotten the urge to go exploring again, and with so many RPG and magic themed mods out for Minecraft, now seemed like a grand time to start adventuring again. Unlike my Industrial LP, this will be more geared to exploring, fighting, and adventuring, instead of examining the technical aspects of Minecraft.

So, with no further ado, I give you the introduction (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXkdWaOLylA) for my new Season.

The first episode will be soon, as there still is a bit of debug and testing I have to do, and a bit of wiki reading and spotlight video watching so I'm not completely clueless when I start.

This will be for Minecraft 1.47, using the MultiMC (http://forkk.net/MultiMC4/) launcher, instead of a FTB modpack.

Looks like a lot of magical and/or fantasy based mods in there. Can't wait to see it, although you seem to be missing an ore processing mod. Even the Magic World pack has Thermal Expansion.

Then again, without IC2, RP2, Gregtech, or any of the other tech mods, the need for ore duplication is less, so you might not need it.

Yeah, and if you dig far enough into Thaumcraft, there is an automatic furnace that does some ore duplication

Mmm... the infernal furnace chews through Vis like crazy, though, and does create a moderate amount of Flux, even with Bellows attached. However, the clusters from your Pickaxe of the Core would definitely be worth your time and effort to get.

I just ran across a Hoe of Growth in one of those random chests placed by Thaumcraft. I looked into it since I haven't gotten into Thaumcraft yet, and it seems that it's able to instantly grow certain things which aren't effected by Bonemeal, in particular, Silverwood Trees. Might be helpful later.

Yeah, I was so tempted to get Forestry, Extra Bees, and Thaumic bees just for the Pure Bees whcih help with Flux. The problem is, you can't just do the bee breeding, which I'd be cool with, you'd need to bring all the tech stuff to get the infrastructure to set up your bee breeding.

Is okay, I spend a bit of time gathering Silverwood Trees, I can grow a pure Node.

Yea, and those machines from the extra bees mod are MJ hogs, you'd almost have to set up a Railcraft Steam Boiler to handle that much MJ production... and at that point, you're more steampunk than fantasy.

Although... I'm not sure how much the machines are actually required to get the Thaumic Bees. You could just ignore them. Granted, they make certain things easier, but it's not strictly necessary for them.

Now that's a surprise, that given the vast interactivity of mods, that no one has come up with a thaumic energy generator to convert Vis into MJ, or EU.

I do believe that is a late game research for Thaumcraft, actually.

There is for TC2, I'm not sure about TC3 though. But it would probably drain vis like crazy, with a ridiculous amount of flux generated, for a pitiful amount of EU or MJ. In other words, almost certainly wouldn't be worth it.

Ok, recording will start momentarily. Initial world download, with config files, is now available.

I had to make extensive changes to the BlockIDs of all mods involved, so you MUST use my config file to follow along, otherwise the world will not load correctly. Just place the contents of the config file zip in your minecraft/config folder, replacing what is currently there.

First episode is live! check the first post for a link.

Fun stuff, just watched.
I enjoy your vids Iskandar, I'm not a mod player (aside from FTB now, but I can't find a decent DW20 server to join) so I enjoy watching you fiddle with all these strange do-dads and whos-its.

Yeah. This series is going to be BRUTAL. Combat in this is hard, especially if you aren't particularly good at it to begin with. My playtesting usually ended with me dying... a lot.

Which is, btw, why I went after that wool. Surviving at night without equipment is not just hard, but outright impossible. Between DivineRPG mobs and buffed by InfernalMobs mod vanilla mobs, even mining isn't the most safe thing to be doing.

Oh yeah, one word: Glacons (http://tempestgamers.com/divine/wiki/index.php/Glacon) Just... @#$% Glacons. There is a very good reason I turned my back on the snow biomes when I started.

That forge is a lucky find. I found one in an abandoned village in my game got one swing of the pickaxe and blew up. :smallfurious:

Can't wait to see more.

Appropos of nothing in particular, should the Nether randomly explode? I've been playing and getting the ores (harder than it sounds since mining seems to attract every single pig within miles.) and every so often, without warning the ground will explode. And I know it's not Ghasts doing it.

I'd suggest adding in EnderStorage. It's certainly 'magical' enough, and gives you some cross-dimensional storage.

Without Factorization or Iron Chests, your storage capacity is going to be very limited, which will really suck when it comes to collecting aspects. I'd suggest at least Iron Chests mod, it's not too tech-ish, and really simplifies your storage space. At least unless TC3 comes up with an extradimensional chest.

Ok, sorry for no new videos the past two days. My kitchen ceiling sprung a leak, and I had to have mold abatement done, which involves some fairly big fans running constantly. The background noise is making it impossible to record new footage, and making it hard to edit the video I already have. Give me a day or two to get the chaos in my house under control, and I'll be back.

Thank goodness for home insurance.

Iskandar
2013-03-21, 02:07 PM
Yeah, I wasn't expecting this amount of noise. Normally, I could just edit what i have, but it has been an adventure. I'll be 40 next year, and like most members of my family I am celebrating that milestone by losing my hearing.

In my case, this has been fairly mild, I just have an increasingly hard time separating voices from background noise. Unfortunately, what I have here is an unprecedented amount of background noise thanks to the fan and dehumidifier in the bathroom next to my office. The resultant roar is quite effectively drowning out my voice in the recorded footage I'm trying to edit, which is really slowing the whole process down.

That said, I did just get an episode of the Industrial LP uploaded, and the fans will be removed tomorrow morning, allowing me to get back to my regular ish schedule.

Volume plummeted about halfway through the video. Was that due to background noise?

Also, yes... ars magica is easy to get started in. And a couple of the basic spells would probably help you quite a bit.

Another thing that would help you tackle that blaze-spawner-but-not-anymore-dungeon-thingy... Lava. You're going down, right? Drop a bucket of lava down one of those holes. Then pick it back up. Clears out the room below you and gives off enough light to shut down spawners. Use dirt/cobble/etc... to clear out lava and build a path for yourself while you take out said spawners.

Announcement time! This is being uploaded to my channel, as well, but I thought I'd post the relevant to my RPG LP bits here, as well.

Minecraft 1.5.1 is here. The mods I'm using have not yet fully made the transition, but that will be coming, hopefully sometime soon. My current plans are to not disrupt the current season, to make the change to 1.5.1 as seamless as I can. That said, I do have concerns that DivineRPG may break my current world. If that happens, I will be using outside editors to salvage everything I can to transfer it over to a new world, so as to not break the current storyline. If that proves impossible, I will not make the upgrade to 1.5.1 until after the current season ends.

In other news, expect a few changes in the background of the LP sometime soon. I will be adding a few utility mods to help me out a bit. Iron Chests, for storage, and a few others. I will update the first post when that happens.

Okay, Episode 6 is now being uploaded. I will also be including a world download at this time.

Also, both my LPs are temporarily suspended for a bit. I am sick, I have a bad cough that I have been trying to keep out of my latest videos with careful editing. That said, it is getting worse, and until I can get it under control I am not recording any new content.

See everyone in a week.

Yeah. I'm having to pause not so much because I am sick, it is just that I am tired of having to edit around the coughing fits. Will be starting on my second round of antibiotics tomorrow.

Antibiotics are working. I'm still tired, but the Cough O' doom appears to be in the process of being banished back to the Pits of Hell from whence it came.

I had more raw Industrial footage than I thought, so there is a new episode of that up. Expect new RPG episodes by Friday, I think.

Thanks for everyone's continued patience.

Make that late Saturday. Fun tip, Steroid based anti-inflammatory makes coughs go away. They also, apparently, interfere with Adderall uptake.

Just tried recording an episode, and I believe the appropriate metaphor for what happened would be like watching a hyperkinetic squirrel. On sugar laced crack. It makes for an interesting experience, but not exactly very coherent. Or directed.

On the plus said, outside of a slight, and hopefully unnoticeable wheeze, I am back recording at full strength. I feel 100% better. Hopefully it sticks this time.

So, learned something, and a warning to anyone using the Dimension Doors mod.

In my latest episode, someone suggested putting my farm inside a pocket dimension. A brilliant idea, I thought, since I am space limited by being on a mountain. However, since the pocket dimension unloads when I leave, I would need to put a chunk loader down.

Guess what happens when you try to chunk load a pocket dimension? A crash so hard I had to pull Chicken Chunks out of my mod pack entirely to get the test world to load again.

So, yes, for those using the mod, time does not flow when you are not in your pocket dimension, and forcing it to flow leads to Bad Things happening to your save.

Luckily, I kind of thought that might happen, which is why I used a disposable test world, and not my actually LP save, so no harm done.

Not the Chicken Chunks fault. Apparently most anything that tries to interact with a Pocket Dimension from outside will kill a save dead. TE's tesseracts, for instance, will also crash a map if placed into a pocket dimension.

Of course, once you get some Golemancy researched, you can automate your farms. Sadly, that might be a bit.

Actually, once you get past the big theory for Thaumcraft, you just need to research movement/levers a few times to get into the golem tree. It's not that bad.

Yea, but he hasn't even started up his research yet, and there are some essences which he will need to obtain that he doesn't have access to yet to get that big theory. Although grinding to that theory will be easier since he doesn't have any tech mods to mudflate the transmutation branch.

Right, then, I'm back. Again. Let me reiterate: it has been a miserable year so far, health wise. I really hope this trend does not continue.

As it turns out, I did not have 1 kidney stone, I had 3. Also, as it turns out, taking vicodin and then percocet for the pain was the worst thing I could have done. Opiates have a nasty side effect sometimes, one I am, apparently, highly sensitive to. Opiates are, in general, muscle relaxers. Unfortunately, that also includes the muscles that move your intestines about. Guess what happens when those muscles get all relaxed?

Worst. Constipation. Ever.

I will simply leave that there, as any further information I could provide would drift down into TMI land. I will say, however, I spent three separate nights in the ER, and have a glorious collection of bruises from IVs because of it. Have I ever mentioned that I am needle-phobic?

So, after what probably counts as the worst week of my life, I am finally recovered, outside of some lingering exhaustion. Expect new videos shortly, after another nap or two.

Let's Play is now updated to 1.5.1. Several mods have been dded, and a few removed. Check the first post for a list of all the changes. Had to restart the world due to all the changes, however I was capable of transferring my player.dat file, so I have basically packed up all my worldly possessions and moved them to a new world. Right, this is getting to be a too common refrain, but I am down sick, again. Pharyngitis, which made my tonsils, adenoids, and lymph nodes swollen enough to put me in the hospital for three days because I could neither drink, eat, nor sleep.

I am home now, and have been for a few days, but I am not recovered yet. Whatever this is is viral, so nothing can be done to hurry it along. It will leave when it damn well wants, and I just get to hang on until then. I can now drink and sleep without too much discomfort (modern medicine, NSAIDs are wonderful, wonderful things), although eating is still mostly impossible.

Being viral, ten days is usually the max that it lasts, so sometime between tomorrow and the end of the week. If it lasts longer than that, I'll be back in the hospital trying to figure out what is up.

Sorry, again. This has been a hell of a year for my health, and for any hope of maintaining any regular release of videos. Please stand by.

Ouch. That sucks. Get well, man. We'll still be here.

Definitely. As much as I look forward to your videos, your health is a higher priority.
