I've noticed in the various books a tendency to stat up even the unimportant NPCs as barbarians when they hail from wilderness areas, when if they were from "civilized" areas, they'd just be warriors. That in mind, here's a variant of the Warrior NPC class designed to represent tribal warriors and hunters.

Brave

Hit Die d8.
Good BAB.
Good Fort Save.

Class Skills
The warrior’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Climb (Str), Handle Animal (Cha), Intimidate (Cha), Jump (Str), Listen (Wis), Ride (Dex), Spot (Wis), Survival (Wis), and Swim (Str).

Skill Points at 1st Level
(4 + Int modifier) × 4.

Skill Points at Each Additional Level
4 + Int modifier.

Class Features
The following is a class feature of the brave NPC class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency
The brave is proficient in the use of all simple weapons, with shortbows (including composite shortbows), throwing axes, and handaxes.

The brave is proficient with light armor and shields (except tower shields).

PS. I know it's silly, but it makes me feel better. :smalltongue:

So, Warrior with 2 extra skill points at the cost of medium and heavy armor and all the good martial weapons? It's basically the Thug Fighter variant (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#fighterVariantThug) for Warriors, then?
