[PF] Summon Monster and Bard

Anyone have any experience playing a Bard and taken the Summon Monster spell chain on to their spell list? Is it worth it?

It seems like Summon Monster I would be a good option at low level. Summon a monster buff it, but at later levels does taking Summon Monster II through VI hold up? Even if you could buff the monster?

and are their any summoned monsters with a good SPA to make it awesome?

The problem is that, with only 6 levels of spells, the summons fall behind, capping out at SM IV. If you want to play a summoner bard, there is a racial archetype for Wayang - shadow puppeteer (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/other-races/uncommon-races/arg-wayang/shadow-puppeteer-bard-wayang), that replaces bardic performance with summoning, though they are only shadow conjurations.

Yup, Kinda what I was thinking as well.

What level does summon monster 1 become useless?

What a strange race that gets flavored class bonuses to all CHA based classes but no racial CHA bonus.

It becomes pretty subpar right around level 3 for anything other than a flanking buddy.
