View Full Version : Thoughts on Tyranid Ideas.

So, i was watching the Warhammer Movie, Ultramarines (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1679332/), And I had a idea;
We have Chaos Space Marines, We have normal Space marines, and we have Ultra Marines, So why the hell not Tyranid Space marines? I mean, The Tyranids Harvest Bio-mass, and we they have hybrid Genestealers, so why not assimilate or something a Space marine chapter, and have Tyranid marines? it would be amazing.
2nd idea): What if we had Tyranids based in prehistoric times, with much weaker creatures? and they attacked with T-rex Tyranids? how awesome?

The reason why we don't see space marine Tyranids is because all their stuff that is GOOD is purely genetics, and thus they just add it to their dudes, not make it a pure space marine tyranid. This isn't like Starcraft where the zerg make you part of them, the Nids care only about taking what makes you good and putting it in them.

Of course, but making a humaniod shaped-'nid and throwing it in Power armor, now that would be scary.

There were hints in the old 3e Tyranid codex that Tyrant Guard were created using harvested Marines as a starting point.

I don't know... 'Nids are cool the way they are, this seems "unnecessary".

This.
On using power armor, it is probably not practical, all tyranids have six appendages and most do not have humanoid form, an unbroken power armor won't suit their needs. Also, replacing and maintaining power armor would be almost impossible for tyranids definitely much more difficult that just absorbing biomass and spitting out a new form.

Who needs power armour when your natural muscle and chitin is its equal, so to speak?

Personally I am curious and intrigued of what will happen when Tyranids absorb a good quantity of Kroot. Since their evolutionary system is at the same time similar and different I think it will add a lot of on "the ground" options to the hive mind.
And the 2nd Idea... you can probably convert the minis to look more savage-y or prehistoric I am sure there is some planet around with T-rexs.

A triceratop Nid (a Tyranatop?), that can sustain the full fire from a true Baneblade...

Ankylosaurs might be a good candidate- they already have good natural armour.

Much as I love them, I don't think Warhammer 40k needs MORE Space Marines.

But everyone wants to be like a Space Marine! They couldn't even dare to hope to be as cool as an Ultramarine, but at least a generic space marine!
The Tau are using all their scientists to research the superior marine armour for their troops! The eldar wish they were as well-equipped! Why, soon we might even see orc marines!
But seriously, I agree with Golem. I'm pretty sick of Space Marines by this point. Not thta I ever liked them much.

That's because the SoBs are already Woman Marines.
Anyway, 'Nids would never put anything in power armor because they don't do technology.

Trixie, those are some pretty nifty SoB!
Back when I was about to start 40K I got hooked on fooling around, mixing Tyranid and SM parts. Sort of like running a hybrid-theme with my troops being more like infected terrans from Star Craft.
Then people told me to play Necrons instead : ]
Honestly, I don't think I will ever rest in peace till I see a Skaven Spacemarine.

You work on a false premise. Ultramarines are a sort of normal Space Marines.
there is only 2 sort of Space Marines --> Vanilla and Chaos. There are variants inside both (Chapters and Legions, respectively), but these variations aren't that massive. Ultramarine is simply the more "vanilla" of the "vanilla Marines"

I always find it difficult to decide whta to think about SoB armour.
On the one hand, it's spiky corsets and giant metal breats. That's just stupid. On the other hand, at least it as a bit more character than the usual space marines.

They're genocidal warrior nuns IN SPACE, "That's just stupid" is perfunctory.
As to the armour though, it's not really much different than the hyperbolic masculinity expressed in the Space Marine counter-parts. They don't employ, to my knowledge, things like boob windows or chainmail bikinis, so there's that.

Because:
A) They are a horde of alien locusts that strip bare any planet they touch
and
B) There is a widespread and very believable theory that the Tyranids are in fact being controlled by the last remaining C'tan (the Outsider) as part of his plan to basically wipe out all life he doesn't control personally.

It's honestly first time I hear of this theory, especially now after Tyranid and Necron changes for 5th edition...

I've never even heard of this theory either. The only hint of canon we had regarding the Outsider before he got semi-Retcronned out of existence was sleeping inside a Dyson Sphere in the Callixus(?) sector...even in the new Necron book, the C'tan were native to this galaxy, while the Tyranids have always been extragalactic.

Given that (old codex) the C'tan came into being in the early years of the universe, while it was still hot from the Big Bang- I could see there being C'tan all the way across it.
With only a few- those of the 40K galaxy- being drawn "across the starlight bridge" to clothe themselves in living metal, and become the C'tan as we know them.
The Glyphstone
2013-04-10, 06:45 PM
Fair point - though that would still exclude the Outsider, since it was one of those who came to the galaxy.

I thought the going theory was that they were the last weapon of hte Old Ones, so quite the opposite of C'tan weaponry.

The 5E Tyranid codex did have "The Penance of the Elder Gods" as one of the nicknames for the Tyranids. Maybe that name was given by people who held that theory in-universe?

They're primarily known as The Great Devourer... given a certain attitude from GW (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=270676), will they sue Lego (http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/The_Great_Devourer)?
