This is the first of a series of posts regarding new subschools and descriptors I've made. First on the docket, Evocation (Invocation)

Invocation is a new subschool, and it is comprised of spells that use energy that is sourced from a divine power. As such use of these spells requires the consent of such a power, and all of these spells are divine. Clerics who worship concepts rather than deities cannot use invocations. These spells are only rarely committed to magic items of any form, and when they are their misuse can draw the attention of the entity from whom the energy is drawn. Many of these spells where assigned here from other schools, particularly the overlarge school of transformation.

(UM = Ultimate Magic, APG = Advanced Player's Guide, UC = Ultimate Combat, bold custom spells)

archon's aura UM, arrow of law UM, bestow grace of the champion UM, bestow grace APG, blade of bright victory UM, blade of dark triumph UM, blasphemy, blaze of glory APG, bless weapon, blessing of fervor APG, burst bonds APG, consecrate, contagious flame APG, debilitating portent UC, desecrate, despondency, divine arrow UC, divine favor, divine power, divine rebuke, dread bolt UM, fire of entanglement APG, fire of judgment APG, fire of vengeance APG, hallow, hatred, helping hand, holy smite, holy sword, holy whisper APG, holy, instrument of agony UC, judgement light UC, lend judgment (greater) UM, lend judgment UM, light of day, Matacha's edict, miracle, oath of peace APG, oracle's vessel UM, prayer, rebuke APG, reprobation UM, righteous might, sanctify corpse UM, searing light, spear of purity UM, spiritual ally APG, terrain bond UC, wake of light APG, ward the faithful APG

Spells that aren't in the Dusk setting that would be invocations include blasphemy, dictim, holy, word of chaos, shield of law, and most any spell that harms creatures based on their alignment.

That's it - not an especially large group of spells - but they do have a very unified theme.
