Suggestion time!

I'm playing a level 4 wizard in the Dragonlance setting who is ablut to take his Test. He's using the Familiar option Imbued Staff (Dragon Magazine #??), and I need to decide on a cantrip to store therein for 1/day use. I'm trying to pick something just plain handy, like an illusion. I'm not too concerned with combativeness, though I'm keeping an open mind.

Hurry! The Forest of Waywreth approaches!

I'd beg the DM for Light at will just for the Raistlin homage :P

Otherwise, dunno. Ghost Sound?

Correct me if I'm wrong . . .

but isn't prestidigitation the greatest 0 level spell out there?

that would be my pick anyways

Prestidigitation
If you can only do 1/day let it be as versatile as possible.

Caltrops? Prestigidation? Detect Magic?

Prestidigitation. I feel so foolish ...

The light spell is already a part of the staff, 3/day. Yes, very Raistlin, though he couldn't go against the Great One majer for majer.
