While reading through Lords of Madness I found that

The tentacles
are also quite strong; an illithid receives the benefit of its full
Strength score in any situation involving its tentacles.
Does this mean that on attack and damage rolls, grapple, disarm, trip, pulling a door off it's hinges, sunders made with tentacles receive +12? Because that seems rather powerful. EVEN for an Illithid.

Thanks, Sam

Its full strength score means its strength score doesn't change. However, as those full benefits means a bonus equal to -10 (11 if odd), divided by 2 to such tests involving strength, then you recieve that bonus.

So, unless your Illithid is Strength 34-35, then no.

No, they do not get their Str bonus per tentacle to make such checks, they only get their full Str bonus (rather than only a fraction of their Str bonus) to any checks they use their tentacles to perform.

For example, an illithid warrior could full attack with a greatsword, and make a secondary attack with each tentacle and still get his full Str bonus to damage with them. Note that secondary natural attacks typically only get half the attacker's Str bonus to damage.
