So this Sunday I'll be running a game of 4e for the first time in a long while, and I've come up with a creepy haunted house type scenario for the first adventure and I'v'e come up with the following monster as a sort of mainstay badguy (which I have totally ripped of from Malifaux);

Stitched Together

Level 1 Brute

Medium aberrant animate

Initiative +2 senses perception +1; darkvision

HP 37 bloodied 18 Resist 5 weapon damage
AC 13 Fort 15 Ref 12 Will 12
Speed 5

Melee Basic Attack: Hook (Weapon)
+4 vs. AC; 1d8+2 Dmg; High Crit

Standard Action: Oogie Boogie (Psychic)
Close Burst 2; Recharge 5,6; +2 vs. Will; 2d6+2 psychic damage

Alignment Evil Languages -

Str 14 Dex 14 Wis 12
Con 17 Int 2 Cha 14


How does that seem? What change could I make to make it more interesting, where are the glaring mechanical errors?

Also, I'd like the boss to be a level 1 solo young mindflayer, but I have no confidence when it comes to making solos, any advice?
