Illithid Body Tamer

So I remembered the IBT while reading through LOM(one of my favorites). So I went and found it and thought it would be fun to play one. With a little homebrew and some help from the DM I can play an Illithid with a LA of +1. My problem is I don't know what class to play and what feats to choose.

First off, I don't want to play a fighter. I would rather play something like a Hexblade or Warlock. I'm allowed LA buyoff, so by 6th or 7th level(if I take warlock 7th) I should have the prerequisites for Illithid Body Tamer met. Which would be better for the PrC, or would a different class work better?

For feats; there are three feat prereqs to meet and I was thinking(With flaws) Weapon Focus(Tentacle), Great Fortitude, and Improved Initiative maybe? Then at third taking power attack and sixth improved familiar if a hexblade, multiattack otherwise.
