The last thing Durkon thought was that his body would return home... yet doesn't realise that it'll be a vampire body.
My guess? At some point vampire Durkon returns to the dwarves and kills a bunch before the oots manage to resurrect him forcing him into exile once again and further developing his character with the shame of his actions which he did not have full control over, or rage at his homeland for exiling him again for actions he perceived to not be his own.
We all knew he'd return home at some point as a corpse, the only option atm tho is as a vampire.
