So, coming clear out of left field today we have Capcom announcing a new-ish game: DuckTales Remastered (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVvpkNMnWcs&feature=youtube_gdata_player), an enhanced remake of the very old NES platformer, coming this summer to PSN/XBLA/whatever the Wii U's equivalent is called. And wow, that trailer hits you right in the nostalgia.

So, yeah, never would've seen that coming. Heck if it doesn't look great though. I don't think I played the original much - I believe I only rented it a couple of times - but I recall liking it when I did, and of course liked the show and platformers in general, so yeah, I think I will getting this. Anyone else?

On another note, that's pretty awesome actually, I loved that game when I was younger, it was very fun :)

I wish I had thought of that line when making the title for this thread...

There was this (http://www.gamespot.com/greatest-video-game-sidekick/standings/index.html)sometime ago, relevant?

I loved the TV show, so I'm looking forward to this.

Wow, my cousin and I played the hell out of this when we were kids. It was my go-to rental back at the little shop we had... I think I still remember how to beat most of the bosses.

So on board for this.

Bless me bagpipes!

But I'm actually more excited about Capcom remaking the old beat-'em-up arcade games of Dungeons and Dragons. I pumped so many quarters into those old machines, back in the day. Plus, it gets a PC release, so unlike Ducktales, I'll actually be able to play it.

Whilst it sounds like a wacky choice, the Duck Tales game is actually a pretty sweet platformer and so it's probably a good one to resurrect.

It will never leave! IT WILL NEVER LEAVE!

(ahem)

With that out of the way (Duck Tales Woo hoo...) I have very fond memories of the game. I didn't play it that much but it was a blast. Looking to buy it from the eShop (Wii U's service, that is how it's called).

Duck Tales Woo hoo...

Damn.

So wait... they're taking a NES game, dressing it up in fancy graphics, not even bothering to change the level layouts, and re-releasing it?

There isn't enough facepalm on the internet to describe the amount of fail this has.

This isn't nostalgia... this is what happens when your nostalgia gets cracked on a counter-top and fried in a pan. This is what happens when someone decides to use your childhood as their outhouse and tries to pawn the resulting mess off on someone.

They are adding new content (http://www.capcom-unity.com/xantista/blog/2013/03/22/woo-hoo-ducktales-is-back), including new levels (such as Scrooge's money bin and a museum) and voice acting from the original cast of the show. Those "fancy graphics" include hand-drawn 2D sprites as well.

And there would be absolutely nothing wrong with just remaking the game without adding new content. This is an extremely old game for a system most people do not have anymore. Being able to get ahold of things like that was one of the best features of the Wii (Virtual Console), and is a very good use of the ability to release games in downloadable form.

Plus, it's only like $15. Not like they're charging a full $50 or $60 for it.

Not at all. It's not rereleasing old content, it's making it available again. It's new, it really is. It has been that long. Consider, there are kids who can drink and smoke nowadays who weren't born when I was beating super metroid; this isn't charging you for a DVD of your VHS, mate. It's a revival of a damned awesome game. I'm actually sad about the new graphics and hope for a retro mode.

I know this is the Internet and sonic the hedgehog is your Antichrist, but that was actually pretty cool. Why is it an abomination? :smallconfused:

Actually, I quite liked the Sonic Dreamcast games. The music is dreadful, but still. It just occupies the same space of gloriously terrible things as Space Jam mashups. I happen to enjoy both those things, but they're still terrible. You know. In a good way.

:smallconfused: The music in Sonic games has always been good. Hell, for a while there it was the only thing good about some of them (Sonic and the Black Knight, for instance).

^^^ I was expecting that to be a link to one of Knuckles' hilariously bad rap songs.

I don't normally get psyched up for remakes, and I mean, I personally found the gameplay kind of average (music is awesome, granted), but maybe this game will encourage something fantastic. *Cough* Chip 'n' Dale's MMORPG *Cough*

Just as a heads up, there's a Sad Ending (http://youtu.be/KZYiPPkzLs8) to the original that is very tricky to trigger, and if this doesn't reappear in the remake my feelings will be butthurt.

Yeah, that's about what I was getting at.

Also I guess the songs (as opposed to instrumental music, which is good) just doesn't appeal to me.

Unfortunately(?) I didn't even know those existed until now. So, uhh, thanks?

Let me put it to you this way: I'm old enough to smoke and drink, and when I delve into my dimmest, earliest memories, the first video game console I remember seeing is a Super Nintendo.

This isn't a cynical cashgrab, this is like reissuing an out-of-print book with a new chapter or two and extended author's notes.

And yet you link to one of my favourite SA2 songs. We all have different tastes.

As for DuckTales, I'm very happy to hear the original voice actors are coming back. Scrooge's VA is now 94 and still doing voice work. That's awesome.

All this talk of old Disney games makes me feel like finding Castle of Illusion and playing it again.

City Escape? Seriously? That's my second favorite song from SA2, after only Live and Learn. That level is probably the one I re-played the most back in the day, mostly to hear that song. Hell, the remix of it for the 2D version of the stage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drfY_l4qS1I) was one of my favorite parts of Sonic Generations.

Ah, right, those. Yeah, admittedly, never liked those. Though that may just be because, with only a tiny handful of exceptions, I've never liked rap in general.

Be thankful that Mando Knight didn't see this post. He used to listen to that all the time.

What you should've done is post Pumpkin Hill (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_z16F9SOIw) (though in hindsight, it's better than 90% of modern rap.)

Back to topic, I am not completely sold on the 2.5D art style, I think it would've looked nicer if it was all 2D in the style of the show.

Though a Moon Theme remix (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHEgzRtKC5o) would be kickass.

94? Begorrah!

Also, yeah. Loved that song. Our uh, our avatars seem to provide a common link...

Moon theme is so damned iconic. My Grandmother can identify it. I've started conversations by playing it in public and having random people walk up and ask "excuse me, but is that from some sort of... moon... level?"
