Flux Adept Optimization

How would you go about optimizing a flux adept? (PrC from dragon compendium)

After poking around today I stumbled across this class, it gets some interesting abilities, but seems pretty unfocused on what exactly it wants to be? How would you go about making it the best it could be?

I'd look for inspiration in some of the Iron Chef threads about 1/2 casting progression (5/10) classes (Greenstar Adept, Mindbender etc.), for general tips on how to deal with losing 5 caster levels.

As for the optimizing the specific abilities of the PrC, someone else might be able to offer specific advice.
