how much damage does a shield do when using it for bash/sling?

Should be 1d4, or 1d6 if it's spiked.

More specifically, the damage for a Medium sized Heavy Shield is 1d4 (*2), and it's a martial bludgeoning weapon.

If you add shield spikes, they turn it into a martial piercing weapon that increases the damage dealt by a shield bash as if the shield were designed for a creature one size category larger than you. If you add the cheap Bashing magical enhancement, it adds 2 more effective size increases. (And it's not that difficult to add more size increases (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7081777)) if it's something you care about.

The damage progression for weapon sizes is:

1d4 -> 1d6 -> 1d8 -> 2d6 -> 3d6 -> 4d6 -> 6d6 -> 8d6 -> 12d6 -> 16d6
