You're not alone... my personal favorite theory is that Geoff will be using his wooden leg as a stake to take down one or both of the vampires. Ideally while it is still attached, via an acrobatic flying kick.

Maybe whatever place he ran off to was the Linear Guild's base (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0811.html), so Ian will find detailed plans on killing the OOTS except for Elan (because Nale wants him to suffer), thus fueling Ian's paranoia that Tarquin's family is out to get the Starshines.
