what's your take on this, orrion?

I was going to nitpick, but it would be relatively simple for someone to see that, remember how and where Crystal used it, and go find it.

In actuality, Crystal wasn't the person I was thinking of, but Crystal fits the answer to the question, so I decided to just let it go.

Nale using it to shave was the comic I was thinking of, and someone linked that afterwards anyway.

Find three examples of a bard song worsening the situation.

Let's start with the classic:
1: Bluff Bluff Bluff the stupid ogre (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0004.html)
(which I imagine sounding a little bit like Funky Gibbon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXq8rELhUkw), although I doubt Rich had that in mind).

238 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0238.html) Elan attempts to convince the bar patrons to leave the flaming bar. In song.

282 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0282.html) Roy would have done even better if somebody hadn't been whispering "Testify, testify, testify on your own behalf" the entire time.

EDIT: If the above one doesn't count there's also 041 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0041.html) with Elan's "Concentrate" song.

He gets a -7 penalty for dealing with a personal foe (as oppose to a -10 for a true nemesis, which he would probably get against Nale), and a -5 for offering a bad deal (the deal is "intentionally ruin your ally's plan, in exchange for "nothing").

However, I'm pretty sure that you linked us to spaghetti, not toast, so the previous question still applies.

Edit: Ninja'd, but the toast question still applies, and I don't think it's fair to have a question that requires knowledge of Erfworld.

Never mind then; the evil toast question is still on.

But about your second point, my thinking was:

1. That such a question would be fair game, because the Erfworld Book 1 is contained in the giantitp site...?

2. More than that, I don't recall a problem with questions related to finding X-Men references and such. My personal feeling is that such questions are a nice change of pace. When is requiring outside knowledge not okay?

Cool.

As an aside, I have not been able to find "evil toast." Though it does not meet the criteria of the question, I have found an evil toast:

I'll inspire a thousand more leaders to follow in my footsteps. ... Here's to us, Elan. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0763.html)

Requiring outside knowledge seems okay, but the blue dragon's plate (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0619.html) doesn't have bread on it I don't think, that is just spaghetti with heads instead of meatballs, and anyway the toast itself wouldn't have an alignment even if that's what it was. (In the Tarquin's banquet example, the chef was evil, and eating what he prepares might be evil, but the food itself is inanimate.)

Yes that is it. I was thinking this (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0394.html) but that totally fits too. Leaving out the pronoun "an" was deliberate misdirection, not sure if that was okay. (I thought rephrasing the question to obviate that problem would be better, but couldn't come up with a way to do that.)

Your question, Bird.

Ah, cool -- I think that was good misdirection. :smallwink:

Question:

Find Roy correctly assuming that a prominent, very specific event/tactic from the Battle for Gobwin Knob (in Erfworld Book One) will not be taken advantage of by his enemies.

Free clarification: Roy does not actually refer to Erfworld.

What three characters have an orange spellcasting aura?

(Note that Qarr doesn't count, his aura is distinctly reddish and I mean pure orange, and Tarquin activating the glamered armor doesn't count either, that's the item's magic aura.)

Right, 0073 is the one I was thinking of.

Find one panel containing all of the following animals: a griffin, a dog, a red dragon, a bird and a horse

I'm not 100% sure about the griffin, but I think it is panel 2 in
The Crayons of Time: The Snarl; devouring each and every soul, from the mightiest dragon to the tiniest of gnats (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0274.html)

As I understand it the V "physically restraining" question is still open; if not OQ.

He specifically asked for "physically restraining," and I would hazard a guess that Bigby's hand is magical restraint.

Here we go. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0482.html)

Assume that the Northern continent celebrated the New Year holiday the day the Order of the Stick arrived at Girard's pyramid. What year does that make it?

petersohn

1185 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0572.html). But considering the Oracle's prophecy (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0572.html), the new year hasn't come yet, so we are still in 1184.

Azurites celebrate on New Year's Eve. Thus it happens on the last day of the year, not the first. So it will still be 1184 the next time they celebrate.
