Those are both fan art versions of Discord, a villain from the My Little Pony franchise. This character is a being of pure chaos, and he has the mannerisms and voice (yes, they got the voice actor) of Q, from Star Trek: TNG and Voyager.

Is Nobledark an actual, established motif? I've been looking for something like that to describe the setting I'm working on without using Grimdark (because Grimdark sucks), and if this is a thing people will recognize, it's absolutely perfect for the tone I'm going for with the world.

Well, the actual tabletop RPG isn't out yet, but Mortasheen (http://bogleech.com/mortasheen.htm) is already pretty near there just as its own worldbuilding project. It's set in a continent-sized polluted city full of monsters and mutants and (according to the author) so many things that would wipe out other settings that they cancel each other out, where death is frequent and horrible but life is cheery and everyone is okay with it (Helped by the setting's cheap and easy access to Paranoia-style cloning).

Did I mention that it's a Pokemon-ish battle monsters setting, where one of the many "types" is Brundlefly-style human/arthropod hybrids and another "type" is entirely made up of evil clown monsters?

Yeah, pretty much. The basic premise of the show is that there are Titans trying to eat all of humanity, and the characters are soldiers who fight them. The show is available for free on Crunchyroll if you want to watch it, which I can't possibly recommend enough (although fair warning, it's seriously depressing at times).

Although, to be fair, you couldn't really make an accurate judgement about Drogo's abilities based on a fight between him and, say, Jaime, since all Drogo's training has been to fight unarmored opponents with completely different weapons than the ones used in Westeros. Any Westerosi knight in a good suit of armor could take Drogo down in a matter of seconds, assuming he was on foot.

No - she did help him, then drogo didn't like the itching and pulled the bandages and such off and let it go untreated - it naturally got infected and then he died --- the woman basically did as was asked of her and let daenerys hang herself with her words -- then she demanded some spell be done top bring back to life or something and it was, she just didn't bring back his mind as well

My 5 cents on this subject:
Khal Drogo is essentially the only one who can be blamed for his death, whether Mirri Maz Duur applied proper care or not. Later in the books, as can be reasonably expected from the setting, there are a few more characters dying or suffering irreversible harm by infections from seemingly-minor injuries. That's pretty much what happened to him.
Mirri's revenge lies in the following act that ensured that both Khal Drogo and his unborn child would be unable to harm more people. I haven't understood her as being responsible for his death. Well, the first one.

Huh? Sandor trained to fight everyone. I think he has the largest in book when record in the entire series and when they fought Sandor stayed on the defensive the entire time and blocked every swing at him.

Trust me, that's far more impressive than anything Gregor pulls off. There's a reason why from Liechtenauer to Musashi it's advised to stay on the offensive all the time.

Then there are guys like Strong Bulwas who as far as I'm concerned is invincible. It's the only possible explanation for how he fights.

Back when I used to play Immortal: the Invisible War on the regular, your character could take damage to intelligence in the same way that you could take to health. It didn't happen often, but we had the trouble of determining how to reliably portray our characters getting hit with the stupid stick.

We quickly realized that having the players do shots of high-proof rum would be an acceptable solution. :smallbiggrin:

Orange (avarice) would probably drive him insane, and he has no use for becoming a Sapphire Star (love), and I don't think he'd touch black (death) with a 10ft pole. But picking up Green (will), Blue (hope), Yellow (fear), Red (anger), sure. It's just that Yellow and Green cancel each other out, and Red and Blue cancel each other out. Optimized, but still roleplaying, you'd want Green/Blue, because Blue is a major buff to Green power rings. Otherwise, I'd say you'd want Black, Yellow, and Red.

The rings are sentient and choose their own masters (partly at the discretion of the Council of Oa). The Rings, for the most part, avoid giving themselves to people who are easily swayed by power and seek out justice. I think there was a book where they talked more about how the Rings choose their master and talked about experiencing great hardship without being corrupted by the experience. Batman? He's been pretty corrupted by his backstory. An early story with him involved a machine gun, and mental patients. I'll let you fill in the details.

He ends up making a pair of bets with Qui-Gon, one for a decent pod racer, and another for a very nice luxury space cruiser. He then goes and does something quite stupid: He bets that Sebulba would win, and he bets most of his money. As such, when Anakin wins, he loses almost everything…

Wouldn't a shrewd businessman like himself try to hedge his bets a bit? After all, if Anakin loses, he'd win a spaceship and a pod racer. Why not bet that Anakin would win? He could easily recoup any losses that he'd have if Anakin lost just by selling the space ship, but if Anakin WON, Watto would make money hand over fist, since Anakin was the underdog and his odds would probably be 1/50, at the very most (while Sebulba, being the crowd favorite, would likely have odds closer to 1/1.5). Watto would stand to gain MUCH more betting for Anakin, and he could easily bet much less than he would normally and still get plenty of winnings either way.

I think the most powerful Lantern is Mogo, and he seems pretty content to just use it to screw with people.

It's all a matter of statistical analysis. He'd compare the expected probabilities of each possible outcome to the expected return for each bet. I imagine Sebulba's stats promised a much better return, especially since the game was rigged in his favor.

If he goes with Sebulba. He gets a ship, keeps his slaves, gets money(1.5 to 1 odds).
If he goes with Anakin. More money(50 to 1 odds at best), gets a ship, loses slave(Qui Gon had already laid out Anakin wins he goes free).

In a Race which Sebulba had been winning, for a long time(He had more slaves then Watto as an indicator of wealth).
With the amount of racers, risk reward says Sebulba is the better bet.
And should Anakin somehow wins he tosses some money into that betting pool. Evening out any loses for Sebulba losing.

Orange (avarice) would probably drive him insane, and he has no use for becoming a Sapphire Star (love), and I don't think he'd touch black (death) with a 10ft pole. But picking up Green (will), Blue (hope), Yellow (fear), Red (anger), sure. It's just that Yellow and Green cancel each other out, and Red and Blue cancel each other out. Optimized, but still roleplaying, you'd want Green/Blue, because Blue is a major buff to Green power rings. Otherwise, I'd say you'd want Black, Yellow, and Red.

The White Lantern Corps was temporary in response to the Blackest Night arc, which is also when the Black Lantern Corps existed. The Black Lanterns were embodiments of death, so it was composed of dead heroes and villains trying to wipe out all life in the galaxy. You wouldn't want to be a White Lantern because once the all but inevitable god killing monstrousities are finished, you lose your power ring.

Saint Walker, the first Blue Lantern, said something to the effect of "rage has no power where hope rules". The Blue Lanterns are also rather meditative and work something like a monastic order, so it makes sense fluff wise that their powers wouldn't get along. There's a similar logic with Green-Yellow.

The movie Fading of the Cries. Giving me 90-120 minutes and I'll let you know if it's any good.

Edit: Short version, it's an attempt at a zombie version of Silent Hill by way of The Sorcerer's Apprentice, so it fails incredibly hard. Too bad, the antagonists were pretty hardcore and would have been decent in a real horror story, rather than the 'action movie pretending to be horror' thing that was written. Indie film, so the CGI was terrible, but the intended effect was pretty cool with the monster above, the assassin that explodes into a storm of crows, and the zombies.

Overall, the movie was so terrible that right now, somewhere in Australia, Yahtzee has a boner.

Evil Bob? I remember when Bob is acting under Cowl he was very scary. If talking TV show I don't remember him looking like that at any point.

Its just something I found online. And lead to the idea of a Ghost Rider + Headless Horseman style enemy.

A random character I doodled up, and decided to try and color quickly and roughly as an experiment. It has some problems, but was excellent practice an I'll leave it at that. I'ma just go head and back SiuiS up on this. The diversity of the human form is amazing and frequently mesmerizing.

I think the problem is when you take a couple outliers of that diverse range and make it the default for how all characters are presented.

Looks like my initial guess was correct. My first thought was that it looked like something from the Command and Conquer series, potentially from the Hand of Nod. After a reverse image search, I find that it is indeed Kane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kane_(Command_&_Conquer)), the leader of the Hand of Nod, and the image is from Command and Conquer 3.

From what I've heard the actor who plays Kane, Joseph Kucan, was in charge of making the FMVs for the original Command and Conquer. They hadn't hired a cast yet and so he put himself in the role of Kane for a placeholder video to show Westwood's upper management what they were planning. They saw it and decided they really liked the the "evil looking bald guy" who was playing Kane and wanted him to keep the role.

When creating a new post, there's a small icon that looks like this:http://www.giantitp.com/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gif

Copy the image URL (it usually starts with http:// or www. , and should end in an image file type, usually .jpg or .png), click on that icon, and Paste the URL you copied earlier, click ok. That should work.

However, I just read the forum rules. Those demotivators, especially the Hitler one, get a bit too close to politics, so I don't feel comfortable reposting all three as proper images. Maybe you could try replacing the Hitler one with someone else, perhaps the actor behind Mr Bean, or Charlie Chaplin.

Actually, Loiosh isn't a dragon but a jhereg--a completely separate species in the setting of the books, which look a lot like the dragons we're familiar with, but are much smaller (that picture is as big as they ever get) and are scavengers rather than predators. In the setting, they more or less take the place of vultures. Jhereg also have minor psionic capabilities and a deadly poisonous bite. Actual dragons in the series are much bigger and have tentacles.

To be very specific and expanding on Amaril's point, the author, one Steven Brust, is absolutely terrible at describing his creatures, to the point that sometimes it's not even obvious when one is a renamed Earth animal. To this day I'm not sure if dragons have actual tentacles or just mustache-tendrils like in Chinese depictions. The fact that Jhereg are essentially tiny drakes only comes up a few times, when Vlad explicitly mentions how many legs his familiar has in his narration. Almost all the cover arts get it wrong. And technically Amaril is wrong; there are a number of giant jhereg roughly the size of a large dog or condor around a specific point in the world, as mentioned in Dragon and Phoenix.
Unless Viper was asking about Vlad being the ultimate Charisma rogue, in which case I'll just say that in fourteen books I only remember him actually killing three or four important antagonists (one of which required a huge Mission Impossible-style plan), the rest of which he either eluded, convinced to give up the chase or struck a deal with, or got them offed by someone else since he's friends with several lords, and has the Empress and the next three heirs in line on speed-dial (note: psionically texting the Empress is not a good idea unless you have news that could get someone killed. She doesn't put up with BS).
