View Full Version : Necromancer Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil (with 100% less undead)

So I got into a bit of a competition with a couple friends, one that is to make mage that specializes in one area of magic and takes a prestige class that is for another specialist (though not really ONLY for the other type of mage).

My Wizard (necromancer)/IotSfV won mostly due to the role playing I think.

I decided to actually buid this out for a 1-20 game (that won't happen since I'm starting at level 10 and going to 20) and I decided on the race to be a Strongheart Halfling. However I'm not sure what to round out the build with, it isn't like I really need more versatility or power... But something fun is what I need.

So here he is!A perky happy little guy who specialize in non evil necromancy spells (though will have some evil...) who won't be raising dead anytime soon.

Wizard (necromancer) 9/ Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil 7/ Other Class 4.

Starting Level: 10

Banned Schools: Enchantment and Evocation

Stats

w/ reduce person and three +6 magic items (we get higher starting gold)
Str: 4 (not a fan of this... but... yeah reduce person comes with a -2 Str)
Dex: 24
Con: 20
Int: 24
Wis: 8
Cha: 6

Feats

Halfling: Collegiate Wizard

Flaw 1: Spell Focus (Abjuration)
Flaw 2: Skill Focus (Spell Craft)

Wizard 1: Scribe Scroll
Wizard 5:

Level 1: City Slicker (Necromancers aren't liked, even if they aren't the ones raising the dead... Got to stay in disguise)
Level 3: Greater Spell Focus (Abjuration)
Level 6: Eyes to the Sky (People will try to keep tabs on a necromancer via magic...)
Level 9: Spell Mastery

I may take Diversified Casting (Evocation) later to get contingency and a couple other good evocation spells.

Just for the hell of it (fun times) this character will have a permanent reduce person on him and will have overland flight cast 1/day when needed or perhaps just cast Phantom Steed for hilarity sake...

Anyways where I'm coming into a bit of a jam is what to do after my prestige class, I could really use a fun or crazy 4 levels to really tie this guy together.

Another thing is that dang ole level 5 feat, I'm not a huge fan of item creation feats so that leaves metamagic feats or spell mastery...

Empowered Shivering Touch sounds a bit tasty, specially with celerity in my back pocket....

(note, a friend of mine just said he wanted to use this in a one shot so now I won't be the only one using this :p)

Any help will be appreciated :)

city slicker is a pointless feat here, everything it does (skills) can be done better by magic.

eyes to the sky is another pointless choice, wizards get detect scrying as a 4th level spell and it lasts all day, as a bonus, it can also show you who's scrying on you (at times).

master specialist and / or mage of the arcane order would be useful things to slip into this build, especially before IotSV as level 6-9 of wizard are dead levels.

Enough levels in mage of the arcane order gets you access to higher level spells from the spellpool, including ones from banned schools

As for the level 5 feat, you can trade it out for the spontaneous divination ACF which lets you spontaneously cast any divination spell you know, or you can just not take the 5th level of wizard and enter master specialist at 4th level.

Also, spell mastery is yet another sub par choice. If you are losing your spellbook, YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG (or the DM hates you). protecting said spellbook is something you should devote some time and money to.

On the skills... Perhaps but I'll have my spells prepared for something other than to cover my skills. Plus when the town guards/other enemies use magic to see through magic they won't be able to see through a mundane disguise.

With scrying sensors... Again I don't want to be completely dependent on spells for everything. Besides my 4th level spell slots will be for a couple juicy spells (enervation, celerity, assay spell resistance).

Plus you know I have scribe scroll... So

I don't need help with the feats currently taken... Just that little level 5 wizard feat.

I'll look into master specialist and mage of the arcane order though but they won't come before IotSV.

EDIT:

1: I'm not looking for optimal since you know I'm already a wizard and IotSV, yeash I don't need much more than that. I'm looking for fun things to add onto what I already have.

2: I find it funny that so many people think that a wizard's spellbook is taboo. Spell Mastery is all about contingencies which last I checked is what being a wizard was all about ;).

Edit:^2

Master Specialist really doesn't do a lot for me since my character is a necromancer who doesn't make undead. (minor school esoterica).Level1-3 is nice, but it doesn't add anything fun to the character.

Mage of the Arcane Order is nice PrC but doesn't fit with the fluff I'm making for my necromancer. This halfling was in college but now travels the world and pretty has trust issues (no clue why yet) so he would never join a group such as this.

Both are great PrC's for a wizard, just not for what I'm going for.

Hmm I wonder if they have prices for fake mustaches in D&D... He might wear a different one every so often to make the party think he is really a changeling... Oh hell yes I got to play with that angle....

It's hard to go wrong with Archmage levels, y'know.

Loremaster could be fun, make the party think you took levels of Bard!

Just say you are rolling for Bardic knowledge when you use your Lore... Come on...Do it...
