So I was looking through Complete Mage yesterday and noticed the Retributive Spell feat. For a +1 slot adjustment, the modified spell stays dormant for up to 24 hours, during which you can spend an immediate action to have it go off on a creature that hits you in melee.

So, what are the most useful spells you can think of to use with this feat? The one thing that immediately occurred to me is that it gets around spells with long casting times. Geas, anyone?:smallamused:

Any sort of direct damage spell you've already arcane thesis'd. And for the necromancers among us, your twinned repeated split ray enervation is now also a defensive measure. It's also handy for a gishy mailman type build.

Rusting Grasp. Because having the other guy's weapon slash you and then disintegrate is hilarious. Just make sure you have disease immunity because of the tetanus.

If you're worried about full attacks, Retributive Baleful Transposition is a low level spell that can negate them.

For kicks, Retributive Simulacrum. You have to spend 12 hours casting the spell after preparing your spells for the day, but the benefits are an enemy clone in the middle of battle. Especially good if you're up against the BBEG.

The spell has to target the attacker, so you'd still be adjacent.

Now that's hilarious. Even better provided you can reduce the metamagic cost somehow: Retributive Ice Assassin.
