As she alights on the rooftop, Erethiel is initially planning on simply watching, to see if anything happens, but, well, watching a temple of the law is rather boring, after all.

A few minutes pass.

Erethiel, starting to grow bored with waiting on the rooftop, to see if anything happens, takes a look around, seeing if there is anything interesting going on in sight.

Or if there is a group of guards that could be entertaining...

@Erethiel: You sit on a rooftop, perfectly hidden from any would be interloper.

Then, you see something in an alley below.

City Guards. And up to no good.

Three of them. One has a boy with an age no more than eight cornered as he stands defiant, protecting a younger girl, who holds on to a basket of bread.

The other two guards watch the scene go by and laugh.

"Little thief! You know taking food unpaid is against the law!"

"Sir, please. It's just a little bread! It's for my momma!"

The guard walks up to him and shakes the boy.

"I'll have to tell your momma to go see you at the gallows, then!"

As Erethiel watches from above, she sees a rather sad sight below her.
That poor child... I wonder... How will those guards react to their "friend" changing his mind.

Being skilled at magic, she decides to try a little... creative editing of the guards mind might be in order. Having heard his voice, she mutters a short incantation, the sounds easily concealed by the wind, before using her telepathy, trying to make it seem as though the thought is the guards own.

You know, this kid did nothing wrong. Why don't I just help the poor kid out a bit, give him my money, and them go free.
(suggestion, dc 30 will, if it is reasonable, you can boost the dc as you see fit)

Erethiel then considers what she can do to punish the two laughing onlookers...

@The Party: You stand on the cudgel disc on the stone floor and after a few minutes, The doors in the upper level of the amphitheater open and a cadre of clerics dressed in black inquisitor robes and bearing the symbol of the cudgel come in and take their seats. Jace bows to one of them who bows back.

"Good morning, Calchis. I hope this is no inconvience."

The old Cuthbertine shakes his head.

"Not at all, Jace, but it is intriguing as to why this meeting has been called."

A guard comes out after the priests and stands firm as he raises his voice for all to hear in the room.

"Announcing his Grace! Highest Exemplar of the Law, Protector of Halmathan, Arbiter of Justice! His Excellency, Garnd Inquisitor Connor of the Cudgel!"

Father Calchis shakes his head and massages his temple as Connor come sin dressed in black inquisitor attire and a hat of office upon his head. The man takes the highest seat, made of fine chiseled mahogany representing angels with swords. Connor places his hands on the chair and clutches them firmly as he leans forward to look at you.

"Well, if it isn't Dantie Silva. Showing your real face this time? About time, I would say. Masquerading as a servant of the heavens could be misconstrued as heresy. And Xander Corillian, the arcanist who would dabble in arts to heinous to mention were it not for the rules this fair city have against your kind..."

Connor looks around.

"Where is that ruffian rat that tags along with you? Where is Tarith Spellbane?"

@Erethiel: You digsuise yourself and fly from roof to roof in the city, keeping a close watch on the carriage until this one stops at the Grand Temple. Then, you watch Jace, Dantie, and Xander go isnide."

As Dantie, Farther Jace and Xander await all those they have asked for to arrive Dantie looks around the room to see what Connor has done to the place since last time.

As the clerics start filling in Dantie bows to each of them in kind as they enter and take their seats. That is of course until Connor comes in, bitting back quite a few cruel remarks he bows his head, though less then he had to the others, he bows it none the same. And it is good to see you have grown accustomed to your new roll high Inquisitor Connor. As to my face not normally being like this if it were not for the need to take on a form much more suited to combat to protect the innocent I would happily stay in my true form. Sadly not all of us are able to stay locked inside and file papers. That is reserved for those in power is it not? After all I am only a lowly cleric of Pelor and you a grand Inquisitor of the cudgel. Dantie says to Conner both mocking and throwing flattery in all the same words. If our gods did not wish for us to be able to destroy the evils of this world and defend those who could not defend themselves I am sure they would no longer allow us such measures. I am sure you of all know that some things require you to ask your god for something you yourself can not do. Dantie says kindly to him.

As for Tarith, well his body left us in a battle in which he found Dr. Cutter and revealed that he was not working alone, with his last words in this world he told us that Cutter had been killed by his own hands. Though as I have said it was not without a cost. Dantie says letting a deep sadness come to his face. Then looking to all those assembled in the room before back to Connor he begins. Great inquisitors of the Crudgel we have found this accomplish of Dr. Cutter and it is none other then his late apprentice Andrea. Dantie says letting that sink in knowing full and well that many would start to argue that she was dead. Now I understand this must be confusing to you all, but I ask that we assemble all of the other members of the church before myself and my friend Xander go on, as it is a very long story filled with much details and I would like for a few things to be made ready if your grace would allow them. Dantie says looking to Connor. If it is within your power and not to much paper work I would like to ask for a room that is protected from magic as well as makes it so no one can lie to be prepared and all those who assemble to come unarmed that way we are all at peace and know there will be no call to arms. After all I am sure you would feel more comfortable without me having my sword after the misunderstanding we had. I would also like to ask for the captain of the royal guard to be present as this concerns her as well. Dantie says waiting for the wquestions to come.

@Erethiel: From the safety of the rooftops, just like with Jharlandar, you plant an idea in the guar's mind. Why arrest the kids? It sounds like a much better plan to give them your daily wage. They do look hungry, after all.

Will [roll0]

The guard takes his pouch and puts it on the kid's hand.

"Go on, scamp. Get you and your sister some food for your mother. Git!"

The other two look at him and one blocks their path.

"Are you insane? They broke the law!"

@Dantie: The room goes into a low murmur, just to explode in questions.

Andrea Swayne is alive?

I saw her coffin lowered. Jace! What does this mean?

Cutter is dead?

Connor stands up and silences the priests with his hand.

"An interesting tale, Dantie. Oddly enough, I have disopatched some of my own agents to sweep the area and find the villainous Cutter. How convenient that you would find him first. There will have to be a procedure to make sure that your tale is true. Ideally, by searching his domicile. I will appoint a crew to go into Mercy's Abandon, where his house is and conduct an extensive research and report."

Connor takes some notes, then looks at you.

"I will call the heads of church here, since it seems you, as usual, have stirred some trouble. I must warn you, Dantie: I am a very buisy man. And if I call the heads of church and I find this has all been a waste of time, or that laws have been broken while spinning this tale, you will be arrested, no matter what wing you hide under."

Seeing the guards moving to prevent the kids from leaving, Erethiel finds that she has few options. After all, she does not want them to know that she was ever here.

Consequently, she uses two spells as she stealthily flies down near the kids.

First, on the way down, she casts ghost sound, emulating the sounds of a street battle being fought behind the guards, just out of sight. A fairly crude, but effective distraction. Second, as she alights soundlessly near the children, she casts a silent image, extending the building slightly, concealing them within it, even as she touches a finger over her lips, and gestures to the children, trying to get them to begin edging away from the guards.

dc 21 on the ghost sound, dc 22 on the silent image.
The Ghost sound will be concentrated on for one round, the silent image maintained.

AS The whole entire room erupts into low mummers and questions Dantie lets Connor quite them all down. After all telling the tale only in front of Connor would get him no where, in front of the whole city on the other hand, that may be different.

As Silence is restored and Connor informs him that he has sent out agents to find Cutter Dantie can not help but laugh on the inside. Either the man was going deaf from what Tarith had explained to him was a grand explosion or he was just trying to by time. High inquisitor as I have said to you I was not the one who found him, but Tarith was. He was conveniently kidnapped mind you, someone paid an astral stalker to capture myself and Tarith and bring us to Dr. Cutter. A pitty they were not aware I was immune to such things as drugs and poisons, as I am sure many in this room are as well. After all do not the gods smile down on their faithful and protect them from harm in mysterious ways? Dantie says kindly as he looks around to see what the people in the room are thinking at this moment. And I hope you do not mean you will send them to ground zero of that blast zone. Tarith informed me that it went up like a vampire being exposed to the sun, with a mighty fine bang. If something did survive though I would advise caution and only send those immune to possession though. It would have it what did in Tarith was a parasite that transferred over from one host to another upon touching flesh I believe he said. It was very difficult to understand him as he left this world. Dantie says very sadly.

As Connor accuse him of stirring up trouble Dantie looks hurt at the inquisitor. Why Connor I am hurt. You would say a fellow member of your order is stirring up trouble by seeking out the truth of what has been causing people harm. I must have misunderstood you as I have done nothing but help this city since I have arrived. Sure a few misunderstandings here and there, but is that not the problem with laws being different everywhere you go. Perhaps we should start making laws universal as the gods started to do. We could ask one of the cudgels many servants from the Heavens for help in this matter I am sure. Dantie says hoping that many of those in the chamber would agree with this idea which would be the opposite of the law Connor himself had just passed that day. As for a waste of time, us standing here waiting is a waste of time, as we speak what I am trying to inform the city of could be already in motion and to late to stop. Dantie says to the grand inquisitor as a sense of ergency surrounds him. With luck it would not take to long to gather the heads for a meeting.

As He waits he looks to the Inquisitor that Farther Jace greeted ealier and asks So what are the laws of the day? Any I should be worried about? I read something on banning all forms of magic on my way here and about the people of this city being taxed to fund a crusade to save the king, but with how urgent this meeting was I did not take time to study all the laws since I have arrived in the city. Perhaps you could inform of them as we wait Farther? Dantie says making it seem like he did not want to bother Connor with such a small task as informing those lower then himself of the laws.

I really hope all of you are enjoying yourselves with this, as I am trying my best to make this exciting. If you have any ideas please PM them to me and I will try to work them in if they will not get me thrown into jail.

@Dantie & Xander: Connor sits back in his judge chair and looks down despondently at you.

"An explosion in Mercy's Abandon? And Tarith was involved? Why am I not surprised. That little street rat was only good for one thing: trouble. Although, if Cutter's mansion has in fact been obliterated..."

"I heard there was an explosion a few nights ago, your grace.", father Calchis interrupts, causing Connor to give him a deadly look. Father Calchis sits back and listens attentively.

"As I was saying, if there was an explosion that obliterated that madman's house, then a garrison will be sent to explore the area. I know you have prevented against it, Dantie Silva. But I will defer to my better judgement in this case. I am, after all, the Law."

Regarding the many new laws and asking divine guidance, although the new laws elicit otherwise, murmur is heard amongst the Inquisitors. Connor calms them down.

"Fellow Cuthbertines. The reason these laws are in motion is to defend the good people of Halmathan. They are provisionary, nothing more. What is to say a cult of demon worshipers were to establish a niche in the city? Without the laws this church has issued forth, we would be overrun. The city would fall into chaos."

Father Calchis looks at him.

"Your Grace, with all due respect. father Silva mentioned an Astral stalker in the city. One hired to kidnap Tarith Spellbane. Such a creature is not from this realm."

Connor sits back and raps his fingers on the chair.

"An unfortunate event, indeed. And the church...thanks you for this information, Dantie Silva. We will have to double the numbers of our diviners, officially backed by the church, to detect any such beings of a malevolent nature."

Connor stands up and calls a guard.

"I want all the heads of church in the temple in under ten minutes, guard. Also, have Lady Godefroy summoned. Dantie Silva here says he has crucial information. We would not want it to go wasted on empty ears, now wouldn't we. Now, I will adjourn this meeting until the heads of church and the Royal Captain are here."

Connor gets up and leave, before turning to the three of you.

"You are welcome to wait in this room...and no other."

Once Connor leaves and the other inquisitors are getting up, you call out Father Calchis. An elderly man. Older than Connor. The priest puts on his glasses to get a better view.

"Father Silva! Master Corillian! I am glad you are here, but are you sure you know what you are up against?"

Calchis leans down as far as he can, almost losing his balance, which Jace quickly stops his fall by flying up to him.

"Easy, old friend. Please continue."

Calchis smiles as he adjusts his glasses.

"Connor is implementing rules every day. Like a child with a twisted imagination. I have countered his edicts a few times, but, legally and politically, the man is untouchable. Be careful! I know Connor has it out for you and Master Corillian. Although he really did hate your other friend, Tarith. With a passion! To see his face go red again...what I wouldn't give to see that!"

Calchis clears his throat.

"Well, I know he has come down extremely hard on those who favor a more stealthy lifestyle. Confiscating all their utensils. Tools of the trade as many have argued, while they stay in Halmathan. Stating it is for the city's safety. Honestly, I have never seen someone as zealous as him! Why the rigid laws? He claims he wants this city safe, but walk out the street and you will see another matter entirely. Now he has diviners all over the city sensing those who teleport into or out of the city. Where is he getting all that funding, I say? Then there's an event in the park that he wants to..."

The appearance of the other inquisitors makes Calchis sit back in his chair as Connor and the other Cuthbertines sit.

"Are the heads of church and state here? Announce them!"

A guard stand by the entrance to the Amphitheatre of Truth.

"Introducing Her Grace of the House of Trade. Mother Katherine the Temperate!"

Mother Katherine walks in with her armor on and her cloak. She bows to the Grand Inquisitor, who nods at her and signals her to take a seat.

"A good morning, Grand Inquisitor. the House of Muoquol is ever ready to answer your call."

Katherine the Temperate turns to you and raises and eyebrow as she looks at Jace as well.

"Father Silva, Highfather. I do hope this does not end in a conversation based on steel."

Jace smiles.

"Worry not, temperate Mother. It shall not."

The guard stands at attention again.

"Announcing the Head of the Archpaladin order. The Valiant Knight. The Caged Bear of Halmathan. Sir Randolph Brunhausser!"

Sir Randolph comes in wearing his armor and a bear pelt on his back which acts as a cape. An imposing man, even without use of spells, sir Randolph looks at Jace and gives him a fraternal hug, lifting the half celestial.

"It's good to see you again, Jace."

"The pleasure is always mine, Randolph, but I would not see you now were it not for Dantie."

The Brunhausser Bear shakes your hand and pats your shoulder. A solid and firm handshake. Nothing less from a man like him.

Randolph says in a low voice to Dantie

"You ready to cut the snake's head? Please tell me you are."

Randolph shakes your hand firmly as well, Xander.

"Remember, you are my eyes out here, Xander. I'm trusting all has gone well?"

"Ahem! You must pay your respects, Caged Bear. Besides, I am sure you out of everyone would enjoy the fresh air, for once." Connor looks at him from his judge chair.

Randolph stands at attention and gives him a look. It is hard to tell if it is respect or defiance. The head of the church of Heironeous sits opposite Mother Katherine.

"Announcing Father Roland of the Church of Olidammara!"

A young priest in his thirties wearing attire similar to Tarith's walks in. He has a dashing look and a short trimmed black goatee.

Connor looks at him with utter contempt.

"As a lesser church in the City, father Roland, you are here as an observer, do not forget that. Guards! check him for weapons."

A pair of guards frisk him as Roland smiles.

"I am truly offended, your Grace. Why would anyone want to bring you harm?"

After frisking him and finding nothing, Roland takes a deep bow at Connor and places his hand on his forehead, gesturing a salute.

You notice the middle finger has been stretched out subtly as he takes his seat.

"Announcing Father Bhagazzin the Blunt, of the Kordite Order!"

A red haired dwarf wearing chainmail walks in. This dwarf is very well muscled and carries a great sword strapped to his back. He looks at the crowd gathered and is quick to salute.

"Why am I here? Another display of pompousness and power from our beloved ruler?"

Connor gets up from his chair.

"Know your place, Bhagazzin! Guards! Remove his weapon."

The same pair of guards walks up to him and the dwarf is quick to unsheathe the sword, missing one of the guards inches away from the throat.

The crowd gasps.

"Be careful. It's sharp. Jace, good to see you here." Bhagazzin hands a frightened guard his sword and takes a seat next to Roland.

"Good to see you as well, old friend." Jace bows as the dwarf takes his seat.

"Announcing Lady Silvarel of the Restful meadows! High Priestess of Ehlonna!"

Beautiful lady Silvarel walks in at a light pace, making almost no sound with her long flowing green robes.

Lady Silavrel bows.

"A good morning to all of you. I hope I am not late."

Connor nods.

"Once again, the church would like to extend their apologies to lady Silvarel for the wrongful arrest a few days ago. We are most grateful for your understanding. please take a seat."

Lady Silvarel looks at you and bows.

"Thank you again, Dantie. For everything. Highfather, you have chosen wisely."

Jace bows back at her.

"Announcing Ravenna the Walker! Of the Church of Fharlaghn!"

There is silence as nobody comes in.

The guard repeats his announcement.

"Announcing Ravenna the Walker! Of the Church of Fharlaghn!"

Nothing.

Connor leans back on his chair and raps his fingers.

"This, my fellow Inquisitors and heads of church, is what I mean by public disobedience! With behavior like that, refusing to show up for official meetings... what can be expected of a traveler. Some would be quick to call her a spy, traveling back and forth between Halmathan and enemy states, selling information. But we will not be hasty on passing judgement. Is there anyone else?"

Announcing Lady Callewyn Godefroy, captain of the Royal Guard!

Lady Godefroy walks in and hand her blade and shield to the guards and kneels on one knee.

"The Royal Guard is here, your Grace. I stand for all of them today."

Connor smiles through his thick mustache.

"Well said, captain. This is what I call a model citizen. Always observant of the Law and those who would pass it. Please take your seat."

Lady Godefroy gets up and both of you can see she is not happy with being there. She tries her best to hide it, but it's no use. She turns to Randolph up on his pulpit and bows. Then she turns to Dantie, Jace, and Xander.

"I am so sorry, Highfather. I..."

Jace places his hand on her shoulder.

"You did wahat duty told you to do. It's in the past."

With all seated, Connor stands up and addresses the group.

"Heads of church! Lesser heads of church...and captain of the royal guard, we are here gathered. Called from our duties to listen to the tale of one Dantie Silva and Xander Corillian. They claim they have information we do not. As such, I want all present to pay close attention. Since they say this is a matter of...national security. Xander Corillian, be so kind to put these fine leaders of the faith up to speed."

Connor sits back and you can swear he's smiling beneath his thick grey mustache.

@Erethiel: With one of the guards stupified into believing his wages should go to the young poor, You glide on invisible wings while smirking and gently pointing your hand behind the two guards.

Immediately, the sound of an alley brawl behind them rouses suspicion.

"What in the hells is that? A fight? But we saw no one!"

The guard affected first looks at them.

"What fight?"

The other two pull him with them.

"Dumb and deaf now? This way!"

Upon landing, you whisper the ancient fey words (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPWKWz9-Ias) and the alley extends a few feet, covering you and the children in a silent wall.

"A wall, here?

The fight seems to fade away as rapidly as it came, leaving only the memory of its existence, but it seems that the children took the chance to scamper away. Erethiel indicates to the children that they should start carefully edging away from the guards, but to stay along the wall, so as to stay out of sight.

Hopefully, the guards move on soon, having better things to do than tormenting children.

As Connor sits back in his chair and acts as if he could not have heard the explosion Dantie to say the least looks surprised, that is until of course until Father Calchis explains that he had heard it. “Most esteemed Inquisitor, “Dantie says biting back saying egoistic, “I would like to ask you if you know of Tariths upbringing? If not allow me to fill you in as we wait. He was born to a middle class mage and partly raised by the church of Pelor for the past 10 years, so I would hardly call him a street rat just because you did not like him. He merely was one that did not like to sit around and wait for information to come to him, but instead to go seek it out. Like any good Inquisitor would do really. After all we can not choose our parents now can we your grace.” Dantie says knowing what kind of reaction it would get out of him if it had been Tarith saying the words. Tarith had told them all about Connors past and of even being a spellthief himself, though he would never admit it, and it was almost impossible to prove, it was still something to keep in mind when speaking of the new royalty.

As Connor tries to show he is the one in charge by sending a garrison of men to investigate Dantie simply bows his head. “As you have said High inquisitor you are the law, and it is not my place to question the law. As for preventing you from doing so, I would more call it advising to use caution. After all if such things are still alive as his creations, it would be very bad for your men to get infected with such a chaotic nature.” Dantie says worried about the lives of all those Connor would send to investigate.

And as the new laws are brought up Dantie can see that many in this room would have thrown Connor out long ago if not for the royal decree. “I am happy you bring demon worshippers up your grace as I will be discussing that soon enough as well. But if I may.” Dantie asks all those assembled in the room before continuing, “ What dose taxing travelers do for the benefit of this city? Eventually this place would be visited by very few just like the city of Sigil in the planes. It would be a cage to all those inside and out not letting any escape. Last I heard the diamond mines were back in full operation when last we spoke. Surly they must generate more then enough revenue to at the very least not tax the citizens of this fine city.” Dantie says as he looks to all the members that would be his jury if Connor were to put him on trial. “And how are the schools of magic being banned, except for necromancy and enchantment of course, help this city to be free of demon worshippers? Illusions make for a very good play, and all if not most of us can see through such magic thanks to the cudgel and him opening our eyes. Please do not get me wrong your emmense but as an inquisitor I must ask on the wisdom of some of these actions. You may start a war with the mages of all the world by doing such actions as they would fear such laws being enforced were they come from.” Dantie says kindly, as if trying to provide incite into the larger world.

As Father Calchis looks at Connor and reminds him of the Astral stalker I had just mentioned await his own answer before chiming in. “ It is my duty to inform the law of such proceedings no thanks is needed. But if I also may point out, by denying us access to speak with the gods how will we learn important information? After all you yourself used such means to find Tarith spellbane guilty of charges and I have used the insight of

Pelor to
help defend this world from evil. So why would you cuts us, the chosen of the gods and the speakers of their word to be denied access to speak with them? If they do not wish to speak to us they can freely make it so themselves.” Dantie says hoping to get this law overturned before he gets sent to jail just for being in constant contact with Pelor.

After that Connor calls for the meeting to be adjourned until all the heads of the churches are there and Dantie is more then happy. He was beginning to believe Connor had won over enough of the people in the room to not even need to call the other churches, but as luck would have it they were still safe. “Why thank you high Inquisiotr Connor for allowing us to wait in your humble court room.” Dantie says bowing to him as he leaves. As The old priest named Farther Calchis begins to speak with them Dantie looks to him and says, “ Sadly if we are to find the worm and uncover many mysterious that are hiding in the shadows at this time I must ask Connor and the other heads of church for help. This will also hopefully open peoples eyes to what is really going on in this city.” Dantie says bowing to the probably original high inquisitor of this city. “ I am sure before this meeting is over you will get to see that your grace.” Dantie says to the man using the title he refused to use on Connor. “ Could you fill me in on what has happened since last I have been here. I have been away as of late and just recently returned.” Dantie asks the older priest kindly, happy to see there was still life in the church of the crudgel. As The priest begins informing him he is cut short by the other inquisitors once again coming in along with Connor and Dantie bows to him. “ Thank you Farther Calchis for filling me in on a few of the laws that have been made since last I was here. I hope that once these matters are done I could see a full listing of the laws so that I can make sure that myself and Xander do not break them. I would say my companions, but as it is only me and Xander now, it seems foolish to use such a title.” Dantie says looking at all those who are now entering the room.

And so it began, as each representive came in Dantie made sure to show the proper respect and thank them for being here. “ Thank you Katherine the Temperate for coming at this time. I promise that this will not be a waste of your time. And I have asked for all weapons to be removed for that very reason myself. It is why I come to you in the simple clothes of a servant of Pelor with only a bag at m side.” Dantie says bowing his head to her. Next is Sir Randolph. As Dantie is greeted by the man that lives up to his name he wonders how Farther Jace has livid all these years without a few broken bones in that mans hugs. His handshake alone was overwhelming to say the least. “ Not yet Sir Randolph. There is another snake squirming in the shadows that we need Connors help with before such things should be done. I hope you have been doing well since I left.” Dantie says to the man returning his embrace.

And then next a young boy much like he would expect from the Church of Olidammara appears. “Father Roland I hope this is no incovience to you at such an early hour. But your skills and that of your churches may be in high demand soon enough.” Dantie says bowing to the small priest knowing that contradicting what Connor had said would not make the man happy. Next Dantie sees a dwarf with a sword as bigger then himself coming into the room and can not help but smile at the show that is put on by such a man. “Father Bhagazzin it is good to see a man of your caliber. You must be very strong to carry such a great weapon. It is truly massive like the arms of Kord. Thank you for being here. The strength of Kord is needed to pound out the truth in this hour with its hammers.” Dantie says to the dwarf kindly, though it would have fit better with Mordian, I am sure Kord would not be to upset with what I had said.

Next is lady Silavrel who enters the room and Dantie quickly comes up to her and places a kiss onto her hand. “ My lady, it is good to see you once again. I hope what Pelor has told you has served you well in these past few days and that your park is still open. Have the Zelekuats served you well since I have departed?” Danties asks tying to see if there is any change in how she is now from when last they meet.

Before long it is lady Godfreys turn to enter, and as before dantie steps forward and lays a kiss upon her hand. “ Lady Godfrey, it is good to see you in such peaceful times. I hope that this time our meeting can be pleasant for the both of us.” Dantie says releasing her hand and stepping back to his original spot in the room. “ As Connor intrudoce them to the crowd that has gathered Dantie put his hand on Xanders arm and asks him to hold off for one second while he takes the lead. “ Mothers and Farther of your churches, Lady godfrey of the Royal guard, Xander and myself have asked you here as Connor has said on matters of national security. Now I am sure some of you are wery of this as I just a few days ago had rallied the churches to protect one of your own, but please let us explain what we have found.” Dantie says taking out the jar with the talking head inside it. “ This was taken from Dr. Cutters house as proof to all those in this room that something is amiss in this city, and has been so for a long time. Please listen to her tale.” Dantie says letting the head speak that is inside a jar.

1,780 words.....Wow...anyways I hope you all enjoy the read, even though it was a long one, would have color coded the speech but short on time. Xander Do not forget to have Dantie show them the sword and armor of the royal guards from inside his bag of holding as you are telling the tale, as well as asking permission to use illusion magic to make a larger image for all to see of what each letter says. Once the letters are read and Farther Jace confirms it, destroy all those regarding information dealing with that quartz construct as well as the plants. We do not need them getting their hands on such information. Also do nto forget to mention the mines las plagus, and Klarus from Redmont as Connor wanted to bring up demon worshipers on his back door he has them. Thats all I can think of at this time good luck everyone. No mention of teleport either, If asked directly say divine intervention. May also want to leave out Dantie dieing for that story to work.

Clover stays silent as Xander tells his tale, but then Dantie tries to explain his reasoning and Clover can barely not smile. The man was so hard headed, it surprised Clover that someone who should be so wise was still so blind. Everything he had to offer was weak. Dantie, being a cleric through and through, did not seem to know the way a politician thinks, especially one such as Connor. How can he see that anything he brings in front of Connor can be thrown out? Connor could easily just say that he would look into it, and nobody will ever know he did not. Or did, and hid the evidence.

Clover took the equipment Dantie and Xander gave her for safekeeping and looked at them walk out of the temple with Erethiel and Jace. Being in the city was terrifying for her, especially after meeting with Hathway. Going with them to meet with Connor was unfathomable to her. Taking a handful of grapes, Clover excused herself from the breakfast table, made sure her scarf is secure and tight around her face, she took off in time to see the cab leaving with her allies, before she took flight, keeping them in her view but as far away as she could afford. She wanted to turn away, but with their equipment she had to stay close...

Watching them for a moment, Clover found a place to keep a wide view from one of the rooftops, while keeping mostly still and invisible. She asks Xander to relay to her what is happening.

"Painfully obvious that this is what he would say. The man knows how to work the system and anything he finds out will never turn up. He'll only send his submissive minions or blind fools to investigate... It's a mistake, to let him know that you know. To allow him a chance to cover evidence and twist truths. But still. Xander, tell me... Is he a complete demon? Do you believe there might be redemption for him, that will not lead to his demise?"

Then she did another thing. She sent an image of Hathway to Xander's mind. "Do you see this man present?"

Before leaving for the Cuthbertine temple.
Thank you Lady Silver, once the time comes any assistance you are able to provide would be much appreciated, if he is active in the city, I suspect we will be encountering him sooner rather than later. He is a very accomplished caster, bringing him down will not be a simply matter.

Mentally to Dantie.
Thank you my friend, I am sure it will take all of us to defeat that man...I only hope Craven is well, I know he still lives, but have learned little else.

In the Cuthbertine temple.
Xander remains quite and allows Dantie to present his case, once the heads of the church begin filing in, Xander gives each the proper respect, as Sir. Randolph approaches the two of them, Xander returns his handshake.
As well as to be expected, Sir. Randolph, we have uncovered new evidence that Dantie felt was most urgent to share with all of you.
Once Dantie, and Anselma to finish telling their stories to those gathered, Xander adds some addition information, pulling a stack of papers bound together with string, and tied to the front of the tome found in Andrea's library from his haversack, which he casts mage hand on, and levitates up to the heads of church for inspection, as is talking he pulls out his research kit, and as he mentions each sample he removes it from the kit, allowing those present to inspect each.
We have also uncovered various letters, research notes, and journal entries, some penned in Andrea Swayne's own hand, that we discovered why investigating the matter which Dantie and I were appointed. As we were on a offical investigation, on behalf of the heads of church, allow me to detail our investigation from the beginning so it may be properly recorded.

We traveled to Mercy's Abandon searching for both Dr. Cutter, and following rumors the Dragon's Flight was active again, and running in secret. We were directed to a former conductor of the Dragon's Flight named Johann, it was on our way to his home we encountered the Astral Stalker Dantie mentioned, the creature referred to himself as Klaus and wielded darts tipped with a powerful poison, and only said that he had a contract to take Dantie alive, we battled the creature in Mercy's Abandon, and once the battle appeared to be turning in our favor, it fled through some portal it created, where to I do not know.
Once we arrive at Johann's we were provided with a rough map of Mercy's Abandon, as well as directions to the final resting place of the Dragon's Flight, we traveled to the train station, signs of activity covered the place. We carefully traveled down and found the train filled with creatures, disguised as humans, each one being comprised of leeches, hiding in some poor victims skin, capable of taking various forms once they left their disguises. I gathered this strange slime which the creatures were constantly secreting. As we began searching the Dragon's Flight the strangest thing happened, the train started, and began to travel down the tracks, seemingly of its own accord, soon after a woman's voice was herd ringing through the train, it identified itself as none other than Andrea Swayne, she informed us that Dr.Cutter had taken control of the train, and had been using it to transport victims for his experiments, she claimed these abominations we were encountering to be Cutter's work, we later learned the truth. We began quickly searching the train, and encountered more of those leechwalkers I spoke of, as well as two other creatures, Yeth Hounds summoned from the lower planes, and a creature Andrea referred to as the Nosferatu, who we found in the steam room of the train, destroying the important machinery in the room, it wanted to destroy the Dragon's Flight it seemed, we battled the creature, and it fled to the rear of the train, where it destroyed much of the power room, only to get caught in a power discharge from the crystals in the room, we watched as the creature bust into flames, and was quickly consumed, unfortunately the damage that had been done was extensive, and explosions began to rock the Dragon's Flight, we escaped at the last moment, and found ourselves in a underground tunnel, with a ladder leading up to some facility, The Dragon's Flight it seems took us out of the city, exactly where we ended I am unsure.

We ascended the ladder, and found ourselves in a strange underground facility, filled with more leechwalkers, as well as various other abominations, they appeared as normal incests that had been so horribly warped by foul magics that it was nearly impossible to tell what their original form was, we suspect Cutter's hand, only to encounter Tarith, and learn he had escaped from Cutter, and slew the man. Soon after we encountered the true master mind of the facility, as Andrea Swayne herself made an appearance, she spent much time repeatedly informing us that Halmathan would soon be under her command, and she would be queen of all forcing servitude due to her ability to control a parasite she had created, one that once introduced into a victims blood would grant her control of the victims actions, as she demonstrated by forcing Tarith to attack us. After subduing our former companion, in an attempt to remove the parasite Tarith met his end...we continued exploring Andrea's facility, encountered many more of her abominations, some unfathomably powerful, we also came across a strange plant Andrea had apparently created, one capable of sucking magic from the air around it, and even from magic users like Dantie and myself, the origins of out power did not seem to matter to the plant, it seemed thirsty for all the magic it could obtain, after destroying one of the plants, I recovered this intact flower from the remains of the plant, I have not had the chance to examine the flower to see if it has become completely inert or not, please use caution when handling it.

We encountered Andrea a second time, use made use of come massive tentacled creature she kept lower in the facility, the large tentacles with at least a five foot diameter were all saw, they seemed to be attempting to separate us, and drag us deeper into the facility, we managed to destroy some, others retreated. We located a room capable of ascending and descending through the facility, referred to as a elevator, gnomish machinery I suspect. We took the elevator deeper into the facility until we encountered Andrea's more horrific experiment, a creature that appeared out of the darkness, and struck with incredible speed and strength, each strike seemed to drain Dantie's magic before our eyes, after its brutal assault, the creature vanished, teleportation magic. The creature weakened us to the point we were forced to temporarily abandon our pursuit of Andrea, and were forced to return to Halmathan to recover, at which point we came to all of you, to present what we have learned, in hopes we can prevent whatever diabolical plans Andrea has for Halmathan.
As a minor side note, you may keep the notes for evidence if you wish, I have made copies for myself in case the information proved useful in my research, the samples however I intend on taking to Runestone and requesting aid in examining, in hopes we can learn a way to counteract some of Andrea's creations.

Throughout the meeting, Xander mentally relays what is happening to both Clover, and Erethiel, mentally to Clover, once he recieves the image from Clover, he begins scanning those gathered, to see if he is present.
Do I believe there may be redemption for who, Connor, or Kannis? As to Hathway, this meeting was for the heads of the churches, I have not seen him, yet at least, I will keep an eye out.

Notes (that I thought to copy, can look for more if needed)

Letter from H.Kenway to Master Greasespocket
Master Greasesprocket,

I hope this letter finds you well. We are aware of your involvement in the inception of the Dragon's Flight. We are also aware that the project was, sadly, cancelled. On behalf of the City of Halmathan and his Majesty, we would like to reopen the train system. For that, we would like to count on your expertise to train a new batch of conductors and engineers. I am sure you understand that the group you put through have suffered through age. Being a gnome and exceptionally log lived, I am sure we can rekindle your passion for teaching this amazing art onto new minds.

Please let us know if you are interested so as to make your first deposit where you find it suitable. I believe it goes without saying, this letter bearing the Royal Seal is to be considered a private matter until the city has a fully operational train system. Thank you in advance.

H. Kenway,

Head of Transportation

Master Greasespocket journal entry
I have been here for almost a month. I know the king is in the city, but why have I been denied an audience with is majesty? He supposedly has approved this operation, but now I have to deal with that man Hathway. where's Kenway? He was the one who wrote to me. I haven't had a single student to teach, but I am told to give out a class to a group of...and I know this will sound foolish- leeches. When I asked Hathway about it, he said it was art of a new project. A project for what? I will make sure Sanitation knows about this. The Dragon's Flight is a mess!

Regarding the Nascent Bulbs
You walk into the small room and find it has been messed up. Likely by the Novistadors in the room. An opened vent signals the other creature's escape route.

Climbing the short ladder to an upper alcove in the room, you find a small frieze with the face of Andrea in marble, with a solar disc around her head, like a goddess. The frieze can be slid to the left and inside, you find a rather heavy book.

Regarding the Nascent Bulbs

Karyllyn's Mine has proven to be a plethora of resources. While the city has been able to procure much of its wealth through quartz mining, it is its less known properties that make such an eartly vein so important.

First, there is the Las Plagas parasites, which have been fossilized and in spore form within the confines of the mine. Cutter was able to manipulate them... somewhat. However, I have been able to fully control them through my Ascension.

More importantly, however, is the fusion of the quartz, which, thanks to the legendary Alubastac have attained a most peculiar property. The quartz on their own, are of little use, more than petty bobbles or components for would be necromancers. With my Superior Intellect, I have been able to delve deeper into the use of the quartz and have fused them with natural life.

Modesty aside, I must say this is a grand success.

The Wysteria Spalier, or Amethyst's Sorrow for the masses, is a common flower that grows around Halmathan's countryside. I was able to cultivate the Wysteria Spalier along with the quartz, creating a unique hybrid plant. This one can siphon magic energy from any life source and store it for later use. Even better, with enough energy absorbed, it can be channeled and used to power up anything. There are literally no limits. Of course, the process will significantly weaken those nearby when the plants begin feeding, but its is a price to pay for research.

The initial plant has been kept in the lower levels of the facility. A prime specimen. It is now nearly impossible to tell what plant it used to be. I have placed some very important documents and items with it, seeing as nobody can even get near it without dying.

There is something else here. The reason why the book was so heavy.
A small white statuette has been tucked inside, having most of the pages cut to fit its figure. It looks female, but lacks arms and a head.
Two slots on its back would indicate something goes there.
The statuette radiates transmutation magic.

Note found on dead researcher
She is finally gone, that monster. Some say she has fled the city. Others say she was killed by the Nosferatu. May the gods forgive us for what was done to Sir Alexander. What matters now is to escape this damn place.

But with that plant in the facility, escape seems less of a possibility.

However, I devised a formula to weaken if not outright kill that monstrosity. I have called it V-Jolt. The formula is highly poisonous if crafted correctly and must be administered to its roots in the Indoctrination level. The plant itself is in Testing, having rooted itself and gained tremendous size.

Of course, things aren't as easy.

Someone released the tanks containing the F103s. The entire Aqua Ring is under water and sealed under pressure. Inside, in one of the rooms, lies the roots of that vile plant. In there is the alchemical lab as well. But they are under water! Hopefully, the lab has not been entirely flooded, so if someone can swim in there and reach the alchemical lab, prepare the V-Jolt and reach the root chamber, it should, i theory, kill the damn plant and its hold on most of the facility, if not all of it.

I...have devised a way to see what happens in some of the levels here. It is a just sacrifice for participating in her research. I only hope the plants do not obscure the vision to the other rooms.

May the gods forgive me.

Andrea's Journal
My Ascension

I am perfect. Of that, I have no doubt. My intellect is unlike any in Halmathan. I am even far superior to Archmage Crowell and his entire school of intellectually challenged pupils.

This, however, is not sufficient.

I have read Grand Archmage Valtalis' treaty on form manipulation. A way to absorb raw power and control it within a mortal vessel. Cutter had read the treaty as well, but he went about it the wrong way.

He became obsessed with the form. This would ultimately lead me, for the first and only time in my Superior life to listen to him and follow his procedure.

Naturally, I did partake on the experiment directly, like Cutter did. I had to use someone from my own lineage. Someone of a pure family.

The subject as first was reluctant, as was to be expected. However, after a few hours under the procedure, the subject stopped screaming and was docile enough for me to begin his ascension process.

It is regrettable to inform that, for my first experiment, it was an utter failure.

Its defense and offense mechanisms were formidable, having acquired some arcane abilities in the process, but his mind. His mind still retained the last memories of what had befallen him.

I can say that, if I felt the slightest tinge of fear in my life, it would've been with the subject.

However, not all was a wasted effort. I have learned the value of time. It will take many decades, but I will reemerge, like a cocoon in this frail human body. Until one day, I ascend and cast off this mortal vessel and become Queen.

So, I did a poor job of recording all the notes we found in Andreas facility (couldn't think of titles to name the txt documents, so I spaced off copying most) Alan, would you like me to go find them and post them for the NPCs to respond to?

Clover remains silent for a moment. "For Connor." She finally says. Xander's story was sad, but Clover had hard time relating. A family bond felt so weak for Clover that even to her, her hope for Connor's redemption seemed vain. Perhaps the only reason she cared was that she wanted to know that if you are the head of a grand temple of the god of justice, you can't be entirely Evil. Maybe it really was more personal for her.

Ah yes, I had almost forgotten about your relationship with the man...we all know that over zealous does not begin to describe him, but he was willing to call his meeting, and all those that hold power are being given a rather large amount of evidence, how he handles it will determine much, but in the end I suspect him to be misguided that anything, redemption may not be to much to wish for, it will take quite a lot of work, but stranger things have happened on Oerth...I would not give up hope on your father yet, as long as he still breathes there is always a chance.

@Xander & Dantie: The heads of all churches acknowledge your presence in their own way.

"So you're the ones giving his Grace a headache...good job." Roland smiles and takes his seat.

"I missed the march last time. Won't be the case next time, rest assured." Bhaggazin walks to his seat as well.

Connor leans over his chair and looks at both of you.

"You may not have noticed, Dantie Silva, but his Majesty, the King is missing. The church of the Cudgel is assembling a team to travel north and bring him back. Assembly of such a team costs money. What you may find unfair is actually a necessity."

Connor looks at all gathered.

"Do we not wish King Airdan restored to the throne? Do we not wish his Royal Splendor to shine once more? If any dissidents are in this room right now, speak up, and face trial..and a swift one at that. My appointed duties are to keep the city safe. That entails bringing his Majesty back."

Connor then leans back on his chair when asked about magic.

"As an inquisitor, Dantie Silva, I am surprised you would raise such questions. Magic, in the hands of the wicked can cause untold damage to those unprepared for it. Wickedness and Chaos run rampant in the world, in this city. I cannot shield Oerth from it all, but I can do that for Halmathan. As long as I am appointed the royal duties of Steward and Protector of this City, Halmathan's rules regarding use of magic remain."

Connor then continues as he looks down on you and all the heads of church.

"I am certain you commune with your own deities in a regular basis. I myself do so from time to time. We are, after all, beholden to their rule. However, I represent the Law here and while you may commune with your god in privacy, in public such actions will be frowned upon at first. I will not have the heads of faith in the city giving out an example to those of vile hearts that they may contact creatures of a less savory nature..."

The room bursts in complaints.

"So what are we to do if one of our own flock needs guidance, Your Grace? We have to abandon him or her to their fate?" Roland gets up from his seat.

Connor looks at him, rage in his eyes and his face red as he brings the gavel down hard, echoing through the room.

"I believe I said the lesser churches were to be merely observant! Olidammarans, they never listen to their superiors. They never adhere to rules, simple as they may be. I am giving you a warning, Father Roland. This is an audience, so far. Do not turn it into a trial."

Connor calms down and leans back.

"...before I was rudely interrupted by the thief priest, communing with your deity is, of course, within reason, as long as it is done in the privacy of your center of worship. If any of your flock require such assistance from the planes, all you need to do is file a permission that will be issued from this very temple."

Regarding wizards and their outrage, Connor smiles beneath his thick grey mustache.

"Arcanists are of no concern to the church of the Cudgel. They know their place, in Runestone Academy. A dangerous lot, but with a little discipline, can be showed the ways of the church."

@Xander: You produce Anselma's head in a jar, which is quick to spurt a line of water towards Connor's pulpit. The line of water spills on the stone floor.

Gasps and a few shrieks from the priestesses are heard through the room.

"What kind of sick joke is this, Xander Corillian? What is this abomination you have brought in here? It...it is evil! You have been carrying an evil artifact on yourself all along? Guards!"

Lady Godefroy stands up.

"Your Grace, please. I know that..head. It belonged to someone I knew. That is Anselma Castaferni, of House Castaferni."

Connor sits back.

"Ah, the merchant family with alleged ties to a criminal underground..."

He eyes Roland as he says this.

Lady Godefroy clears her throat.

"Maybe, your Grace, but if she is here, please allow her to speak, at least before sending her to her final rest."

Connor looks at the head in a jar.

"If you can speak, rather than spit, do so."

Anselma's head bobs on the surface of the jar.

"I was taken by Dr. Cutter years ago. He always had something for me...I believe it was my body."

The head laughs.

"I was taken to his lab and experimented many times. He told me I would have a new body. Then, a young man, Tarith Spellbane, was brought in. I was afraid Cutter was going to use his body and my head, which would've been most awkward. After that, I helped Tarith escape his bonds and then, darkness. Until I was again released somewhere else. Dr. Cutter was still alive all these years, and working on various experiments. I do recall he had one such. A friend of mine..."

Anselma turns around the jar to look at Lady Callewyn.

The Captain of the Royal Guard grows teary eyed.

"Lisa? You know where Lisa is?"

Callweyn gets off her seat and walks towards the jar.

"Captain, stop! You are not to interfere in this audience. Return to your seat!"

Callweyn Godefroy looks at Connor with tears down her face. She stands at attention and does an about face before resuming her seat.

Connor looks at the head.

"So, Anselma. You have anything else you can tell us?"

The head in a jar swims around for a few minutes, then resurfaces.

"That would be it. I knew that Cutter was alive and that Lisa Godefroy was one of his first experiments. Poor Lisa, she was so pretty..."

Connor gestures a guard to approach you.

"Clearly we know everything this thing can tell us. Send it to evidence."

@Xander: You relate the entire ordeal in the Dragon's Flight and Andrea's mansion and labs. Your encounters with her creations and the existence of a magic draining plant. Going as far as producing documents and a sample of said plant and slime from the leechwalkers.

"The Dragon's Flight was sponsored financially by my church as well. I was never informed it was operational." Mother Katherine observes after your report.

"The Swayne whelp. I knew she was bad news since Alexander brought her to the temple one day." Sir Randolph comments.

"Andrea Swayne...she was always so curious about druidic magic. So inquisitive, but she never gave me reason to question her intentions. Poor creature." Lady Silvarel muses.

"Pssst. Bhagazzin. Who's that?" Roland whispers to the Kordite.

"Some upstart she dog, apparently." The dwarf whispers back.

Connor motions to have the documents and samples placed before him. wary of the plant as he begins reading these documents to himself. raising an eyebrow now and then.

"So it would seem you have been very thorough, Xander Corillian. You did mention you traveled in the now defunct Dragon's Flight. How long where you aboard before you reached Andrea Swayne's base of operations?"

You look at those gathered, but can find no one matching Clover's description. However, due to the mental image, and at a very far fetched conclusion. You could, at risk of being tried and laughed at, state that the man Clover sent you an image of could be a younger and trimmed Connor. Difficult to say and, as stated, an awful long stretch, since the man Clover saw had no facial hair and was much younger.

@Clover: You fly invisibly above Halmathan and stop several hundred feet away from the Cuthbertine temple. Going in and having an audience with the Grand Inquisitor would not be the best idea, then, something catches your eye below.

You spot three guards chasing something, sword in hand. They yell "STOP!", but can find no source of battle.

@Erethiel: The kids, now safe as the guards turn around, hand you a loaf of bread and whisper.

"Thank you, miss", and scamper away.

As the children go to hand her the loaf of bread, Erethiel smiles, but shakes her head, motioning for them to go, and hoping that they will enjoy the bread.

That done, she will start heading towards her home, figuring that if the others run into trouble, she would not do anything until nightfall anyway, and, since she will be spending the day in the city, she might as well collect her things.

Xander scratches his chin in thought a moment.
The Dragon's Flight quickly picked up momentum, and must have been running at its maximum speed while we were on it, I did look out the windows at one point to try and determine our location, at that point we were traveling along the outskirts of the city, the wall the encircles Mercy's Abandon was clearly visible to the left, with a dense forest to our right, I would say the trip only lasted 15 or 20 minutes at the most, but the exact amount of time is difficult to determine as we were rather busy battling for our lives against Andrea's abominations, and the train traveled through various tunnels, one of which the Dragon's Flight met its end in.

How long was the trip?

AlanBruce
2013-04-03, 07:51 PM
@Erethiel: Content with your daring use of spells against the local militia, you decide to take a stroll through the streets en route to your apartment.

Of course, things are never as good as one would expect.

You watch a few carriages outside your house. These bear a Royal Emblem of House Gilthoniel. A man in a cloak and clearly fey looks questions the building's tennant.

"Erethiel? Erethiel Faelandarierl? I was told she would be taking residence in this block."

The landlord, an elderly human, shakes his head.

"I am sorry, good sir. No Erethiel here."

The man sighs and raps the carriage's window and says something to somebody inside.

@Xander: The whole train trip, given its speed, covered about 200 miles. In a very short amount of time, mainly 30 minutes.

Connor listens to your account and has a scribe take notes.

"So, Xander. Once you collided at your destination, you were with this...Andrea? For how long?"

Archmage1
2013-04-03, 07:59 PM
Gilthoniel? Here? How did he even find me? The only name I used was Lady Silver, and he would never suspect me of working for the Madam, so that should be safe enough. Still, for now, best to observe, and see where he goes. I do NOT want to be found by him. At all. Ever.

Erethiel, having heard enough, decides to see if she can keep out of sight, but follow Gilthoniel, to see where she would want to avoid being seen. Having reached this conclusion, she immediately makes a second:
My wings are rather... distinctive. Probably a good idea to conceal them whenever I am where others would see them. Should be fine for now, as my spell will conceal them for a time.

Erethiel will follow and observe, staying at a distance.

AlanBruce
2013-04-03, 08:23 PM
@Erethiel: You follow the carriages down the street, ever invisible.

After a few minutes, the carriages stop at the Golden Mare Inn, where the cloaked man opens the door to an elven woman and a gentleman.

You have seen the woman before. She's Caeris Gilthoniel, of House Gilthoniel and sister to your would be husband.

As to the other man, you have not seen him before.

Technically, Erethiel is stealthed as effectively as an invisible with no training.

I know her, but the other... Could he be the fellow? Perhaps I should see if I can't listen in, see what they are talking about a bit. Could learn what brought them here, and how long they intend on staying.

Erethiel moves closer, hoping to overhear something useful.

We only saw Andrea for around 20 minutes in total, but as I said, we entered through a trap door in the ceiling of the tunnel, and the entire facility was underground, it seemed to have some machinery that I suspect would allow it to ascend and descend, we spent quite a lot of time navigating through her facility...and we had to rest for some time in a room we secured...I would say we spent approximately 10 hours, but time is difficult to gauge while underground, it could me much shorter, or even much longer.

And how long were we in there?

AlanBruce
2013-04-03, 09:23 PM
@Xander: You were there at least, 8 hours in the lab, considering the party rested. Add 2 more if you used your bedroll, for a total of at least 10.

Connor listens as he looks at his scribe who jots everything down.

"I see. So you took the Dragon's Flight, which took you several miles away from Halmathan proper. Crashed into a tunnel. Ventured into a facility. Dealt with this...Andrea I keep hearing about. Faced her creations, deadly, apparently. And one even managed to injure Dantie. Then, you came here immediately, to report your experience..."

Connor leans back in his judge chair and rubs his chin. Then he leans forward.

"How did you manage to circumvent all that distance...immediately, Xander Corillian?"

@Erethiel: You walk into the Golden Mare Inn.

A large and fancy inn. With a fountain inside and a tree growing next to it. Apparanetly, they spared no expense in its decor. Fine paintings in different styles of horses adorn the walls, keeping with the theme.

You see Caeris and the cloaked man going upstairs and follow them at a oprudent distance.

This is what you hear them talk about, briefly.

"So you think she is here, Lady Caeris?"

"That is what our diviners said, but lately, magic in this place has become so awry, it makes scrying difficult. I will find that elusive little princess and drag her in chains if necessary back to Celeste!"

The two enter a room and shut the door.

Archmage1
2013-04-03, 09:37 PM
Scrying? I imagine they have some of my things, so my chances of avoiding the spells entirely are minimal, so I think some precautions are in order. I suppose I should have had them up, but I thought that Gilthoniel would be glad to have me gone. And Caeris seemed nice enough at the time, but I suppose she would, trying to convince me that this is a good thing. Glad I left when I did.

Erethiel departs, as quietly as she entered, after considering playing a trick on them, but discarding the idea, due to not having any magic appropriate to the situation.

I was going to do something with illusions, but then I realized: Erethiel does not have the illusions like that, such as persistent image, or permanent image, both would be handy for some absentee trickery.
She also misses the prestidigitation for some more permanent trickery, same for stick, and arcane mark. For tricks, all she can really do is emulate a haunting.

She does not even have any paint, or buckets, or anything interesting like that.

She then heads back to her apartment, checking to see if they left any watchers, before heading inside, hoping to acquire her belongings

Ah but Connor that would be were my side of the story would pick up once more. Dantie says stepping in and handing his bag of holding to one of the guards to hand over to lady Godfrey to see the armaments inside. I am sure many of you know of divine intervention. Well it would seem Pelor was not only watching but blessing our journey because as that creature attacked me it awoken a pact I had made with him long ago and it was by his hand we escaped from that place to warn you here today. I personal would not call divine intervention from the very gods we get our power from breaking your laws on teleportation but if you would like we could ask them. Dantie says kindly to Connor as he tries to get Xander out of the fire and back into the safe place behind him. You see I have made many pacts with servants of Pelor and in turn have been granted great gifts by some. As Some of you may even know my deeds are extremely long and plentiful in the service of Pelor, and I would like to believe it is because of me walking his path that I have been so lucky, and threw me my friends as well. After all the gods keep a close eye on their champions to make sure they do not fall. You yourself are living proof of that Connor. It seems the Crudgel thought that you were innocent of what you were accused of in Justcrown and so put you in a city that needed your gentle guiding hand. Dantie has a hard time saying that last part but manages to force it out in the end. We have come here to warn the member's of this city that they are in grave danger and if we are to stop this menace from going any further we must band together to stop the evil that threatens this city of light so that one day it can be as great as the Free city itself.

Dantie then returns to the matters of magic. I can see you are set in your ideas about magic Connor. I just hope that it works out as well as you hope it will. After all, all great things require great risk. Could a gentler approach be tried? Perhaps screening for the teachers who will be teaching such classes. As for the king, I myself will happily volunteer once this menace inside the city is taken care of to go to save him. As any member of this city would do if they loved there king as much as I hear they do. I know myself that when St Agustus asks for help all those able do so freely and happily. Are the people here not the same way? Dantie says to all those assembled.

@Dantie & Xander: Connor, like a snake ready to strike, leans back as you interject for Xander. You know where he is heading, and what he would do..

Connor raises an eyebrow as you explain your many exploits and consider yourself blessed by the gods themselves, something he surely is, as well.

"A champion, Dantie? A Hero of the gods? Lofty words, Dantie Silva. Truly, you can live up to them, can you not?"

You take out the armor and weapon of the royal guard, that once beonged to one of Cutter's twisted creations. Lady Godefroy stands up.

"That belongs to the royal guard. Your Grace. Many of my men disappeared years ago when they were dispatched to look for Cutter. Father Silva, does that mean that those men under my charge were..."

Connor looks at Lady Callewyn and motions her to sit down.

"A regrettable loss, Captain. And one that will not go unpunished..."

the Grand Inquisitor stands up and addresses everyone.

"Heads of Church! Representatives of the Law! We must thank Pelor's Champion for tolling the bells as a shadow creeps at our doorstep. It is now, more than ever, when Halmathans must band together as one, to oppose invasion- be it from the outside, or within. As such, as representative to his Majesty King Airdan, I am personally assigning Dantie and Xander the task to bring this villanous Andrea to justice. I am certain that two stalwart champions such as yourselves have all the backing you need?"

Jace steps up. "Yes they do, Connor."

Sir Randolph stands up and looks at Xander.

"Never a doubt."

Connor smiles smugly beneath his thick mustache.

"Good, then. In that case, this audience is concluded. Heads of church, return to your temples. Lady Callewyn, father Calchis, meet me in my chambers."

Connor turns to look at you.

"You never cease to impress, Dantie. However, the King's rescue will be done by the good people of Halmathan. You already have your hands full in the Swayne case. The city is thankful for your interest, however."

The clerics leave the Amphitheatre of Truth in order of importance. Sir Randolph puts his hand on Xander's shoulder as he exits.

"You are a good man, Corillian. I have faith in you, but I still don't trust that man."

Mother Katherine leaves after Randolph and looks at both.

"A Champion is a worthy title. Live up to it you two."

Father Roland walks past.

"Did anyone smell it? Because it stunk. Hard. Good luck you two."

Bhagazzin the Blunt stands before both of you and nods.

"Don't know you guys, but you stood up to that bastard. And that's ok in my book. See ya around."

Lady Silvarel walks past and bows.

"May your path be blessed Dantie, Xander."

Lady Godefroy gives both a military salute, then walks up and shakes your hand.

"They were good men. All of them. I will honor their memories by paying my respect to their families. Now if you'll excuse me. His Grace wishes to see me."

Once the amphitheater empties, Jace looks at both of you.

"That was...rather tame. Shall we go back to the temple?"

@Erethiel: You return to your apartment, invisible and flying. Why was Caeris here? There was no way you would return to Celeste and get wed to that man.

Not in this lifetime.

You fly up to the balcony and check your room.

It is locked, just as you left it.

Gathering your belongings into your bag of holding, you throw in your dresses, shoes, make-up, paints, brushes, sketchpad. everything that would indicate your presence.

@Clover & Erethiel: The sound of church bells off in temple District signal either a wedding, a newly elected head priest, or the fact that the current enclave meeting has ended.

*******

Meanwhile, in Justcrown....

Bill wakes up from bed and, still groggy moves his arm to wake up his wife.

Cecile isn't there.

Where is she?

Lazily, Bill gets up and washes his face in a bowl of cold water before taking a bucket full of it and dousing himself in it.

I sure wish I had heated that earlier...

Putting on his clothes and armor, and strapping his blades, the Raven walks out to the main room at the Wench, where Oliver and Basil are having breakfast. Otis greets him with a warm plate on the table.

"Morning...anyone seen Cecile?"

Oliver shrugs as Basil stuffs his mouth with eggs looking the other way.

Bill walks up to his fellow Raven.

"Basil...where's Cecile?"

Basil gulps down hard and washes down the food with a glass of milk.

"She left. I dunno where."

"That's right. I did see her leaving early morning. said she wanted to take a stroll and meet the chaps here. The chaps! I found that an odd way of talking for her." Otis mentions casually from behind the counter as he helps himself to some breakfast.

Bill raises an eyebrow at the comment.

"Really? The chaps...I'll be back. Nobody has any idea where she went, of course."

Bill walks out and cloaks himself tight. The air is cold in Justcrown this morning.

Having walked a few blocks, things start seeing amiss when the town crier stands on his podium, arms close to his sides and turned at an angle, sticking his neck out and attempting- quite badly, to impersonate a rooster.

Pottsdorff sure knows how to pick them...

Ignoring the fool, Bill keeps walking down the street and stops, while taking out a scroll. Tarith had taught him some of the basics and Cecile had taught him a little more. Walking to an alley, the Raven leans against a wall and starts running is finger down the intricate writing o the scroll, attempting to decipher it. The scroll glows and then turns to dust as his eyes glow for a second.

Cecile, baby. Where are you? I'll go pick you up. Cecile?

After a few seconds, he gets an answer.

Temple district...this is amazing!

Bill hurries the pace. Why would Cecile go to Temple District? She knew the Cuthbertines had their strongest presence there. And, although Connor was long gone, Kalypsia wasn't exactly the epitome of sweetness and compassion.

At long last, Bill reaches the main street in the district.

Cecile! Where are you?

Bill is lifted from behind by soft hands as he finds himself flying above the rooftops of the duchy. he turns his gaze upwards and sees Cecile, a wide grin in her face.

"Cecile! What in blazes are you doing? Put me down!"

Cecile looks at him with a grimace.

"As you wish."

As Bill falls down towards the hard stone street of an alley, he looks at Cecile as he tries to reach for her.

Whaaaaah?! C...Cecile..Help!

Cecile laughs as she remains airborne and Bill falls face down on a puddle of mud. cecile lands in the alley as Bill gets up and cleans himself, unhurt by the fall, miraculously.

"Cecile! What the hell is wrong with you and...is this."

Bill takes some of the mud from his clothes and puts it in his mouth.

"..is this chocolate?"

Cecile walks coyly towards her husband with her hand behind her back, almost skipping like a giddy little girl.

"You told me I was sweet last night. Isn't this sweet?"

Bill, who hadn't had breakfast yet, sucks on his finger trying the chocolate. This was strange. very strange, but then again, Cecile was versed in magic more so tha anyone in the Ravens.

"...Ehhh yeah. It's sweet. Let's go home, honey, ok?"

cecile grins and looks at him as the chocolate takes on a golden color.

"Very funny. Seriously, let's go. When did you learn all this? is it a cantrip?"

Cecile walks by and watches a lady walk past them and fix her gaze on a honey covered Bill as she walks a small poodle who yaps at them. Cecile looks at the poodle and the lady and the dog goes silent as the lady feels her throat and begins barking down the street.

"Yeah. It's a cantrip. Bill, I love this body!"

Bill smiles.

"I love it too, baby...errr Cecile. I love it too, Cecile. Are you hungry?"

Both Ravens walk down the street as the pavement turns into different colors behind Cecile's footsteps.

Poor Cecile, and poor Bill. This is rather sad for them, really.

After gathering her things, Erethiel heads back out the window, intending to avoid notice as she considers how much entertainment she can create this day, for the inquisition to deal with. However, when the bell rings, she heads back towards the temple of Cuthbert, as she may as well start there.

(entertainment, in this case, would be things like suggestion, to have criers/important cuthbertines/guards clucking like chickens, or silencing them, or confusing them(in a non-combat oriented way), convincing groups of guards that the place is haunted(fog cloud+ghost sound+dancing lights)

As Dantie listens to Connors words he watches as the snake tries to twist his words. If it is a title that Pelor would allow I would gladly call myself a champion of him. As for the other gods, I do not know there teachings as well as I do those of Pelor and believe each one has their own champion. Dantie says using his ability to detect evil scanning the entire room inch by inch.

Think of it starting at Connor as the 12'o clock it would go from him to 3 and if it picks anything up I would then spend a few time focusing on it until I found out who was emanating the evil.

As Lady Godfrey steps forward and asks him if it meant her guards had become parts of the experiments Dantie looks to her and says. They were I believe his first experiments as they had little to no mind and could only say the same thing over and over again. I thought you may wish to have closer on your men though and such made sure to bring back what I could. I am truly sorry for your loss. Dantie says to her placing the weapon and armor in a guards hand to give to her.

And so they had been given the task of stopping the mad woman. thank you High Inquisitor. I hoe this would allow us to be exempt from a few of the laws as we are on this mission as without some of them being lifted it will be very difficult to defeat this mad woman. Also should we bring her here to be judged by all the members of the church, or pass out judgement to her in her own house. Dantie asks wanting all bases to be covered incase they had to do things that would break the law once more.

Thank you Mother Katherine and we shall do our best. But if you were listening and read what Xander and myself had brought up I would advise making sure your mines are safe from outside sources as last I knew there were Hextorites in those mines and they were digging for something by some man from Red mount. If they are under your employ I would then warn them about Las Plagus so that they do not set them free on this city and then take over. Dantie says bowing and kissing her hand at the end. I am happy this meeting went better then the last. Dantie says kindly to her as she leaves.

Father Roland it is good to finally meet you. And I must agree but some things have to be done for the people no matter how much we do not like it. Please hold your hand and those of your followers. I promise this will all work out in time. Dantie says to him kindly hoping the man understood what he was trying to say.

As Lady Silvarel comes up to them Dantie goes and kisses her hand as well. Lady Silvarel I hope my words and those of Pelor have been in your mind as of late. As I hear it you have been having much company. Dantie says to her kindly. We were also told that the plant came from underneath your park. Be careful my lady as I fear I now realive what is going on here. Dantie says to her before watching her leave.

As Lady Godfrey walks forward he repeats the small kiss to her hand that he has been to the other women in this assembly. I am sure they were all good men and women Lady Godfrey. I hope that the next time we meet it will be with the city safe and the King back on his throne. Dantie says kindly.

Once all others have left Dantie looks to Farther Jace and Xander before asking Shall we leave now?

Xander bows to Connor as he is given his official mission.
Thank you High Inquisitor, the matter will be dealt with quickly, and the city protected from her schemes. I know you are a man that favors his paperwork, and ensuring everything is in proper order, are there any papers we should fill out, or carry while we operate as your agents?

As the heads of church begin filing out, Xander says his farewells in turn, first Sir Randolph approaches, placing his and on his shoulder.
Thank you Sir. Randolph, I have little trust for the man as well, but it seems operating with his consent will cause less issues for us all in the end.

Xander waits for both Father Roland, and Bhagazzin the Blunt to reach them before address both men.
Connor has caused a large amount trouble for the both of your churches has he not? What laws has he passed that seem to specifically target your churches, and do you know his reasoning, as weak as it may be, behind such laws?

Once the amphitheater empties, Xander looks to Jace and Dantie.
That was surprisingly tame...he even practically hired us to complete the job...strange, I suspected he would have wanted his men to take over the investigation, I wonder if he is working some angle...regardless, yes I believe it is time to the temple, I still would like to try visiting Runestone to see if they can aid me in examining the plant sample I returned with, Once Dantie had recovered his spells we will be ready to resume our mission in stopping Andrea.

@Erethiel: With the sounds of the church bells going off in Temple District, you decide to fly off and begin your fey mischief there. Hopefully, Connor will be around and he will make just the right kind of target.

A few minutes of flying, land you on a rooftop over looking the grand plaza, where the carriages of the many church delegates begin leaving to their respective temples.

@Dantie: Connor looks down at you from his chair and then looks at Jace.

"You do have a servant of the Heavens sponsoring you, Dantie. I am sure High Father would not object to such a title."

Jace looks at Connor and steps up.

"My father is a servant of the Heavens. Lord Cassiel. Is he a Champion? Probably. But it is the deeds Dantie has done here and his deeds alone that will speak for him. The patronage of Pelor is a blessing, but it is what we do with that blessing that defines us, your Grace."

Connor looks at you and raises an eyebrow.

"Is that so, High Father? What a small Oerth we live in."

You scan the area around, trying not to make it that obvious, as if addressing the entire crowd.

No evil can be sensed.

Regarding the suppression of certain laws for this mission and dealing with Andrea, Connor raises an eyebrow.

"A Champion is called so because they observe the Laws while dispensing Justice, Dantie Silva. I doubt very much that you, as an Inquisitor, would overlook such rulings. Regarding Andrea, bring here here for justice under Cuthbertine and Halmathan Law."

Lady Godefroy listens to your tale regarding the guard's cruel end. Lady Godefroy clutches the breastplate in her hands and her lips quiver as her eye look at you.

"My sister, Lisa. She wasn't a soldier. She was much like Anselma. Carefree and ignorant of the evils that crept beneath our city. She was so good at cards too. You should have seen her, Father..."

Lady Callewyn looks at you straight in the eye.

"I know Connor asked you to bring that bitch here. Dantie, I ask you, as a woman, not as captain- end her."

Lady Callewyn bows and leaves.

Mother Katherine acknowledges your warning about the mines.

"I am sure The Skylarios family will make sure the mines are safe and well taken care of, Dantie, Xander. Have a good day...and good luck."

Roland shakes your hand and smiles.

"Hard to see an Inquisitor today with an open mind. We'll be ready. You let us know."

Lady Silvarel bows as you kiss her hand.

"Thank you, Dantie, for the security you have granted us. I hope one day I can return the favor. Please be careful. Still, why would a child like her do all that..."

The Lady of the Silver Meadows leaves for her carriage.

@Xander: Connor smiles beneath his thick mustache.

"The Church of the Cudgel will keep the evidence presented today for analysis, Xander Corillian. We are most grateful for your research and I am sure our own diviners will be able to properly asses what these plants can do, if anything at all."

Sir Randolph nods.

"Be wary, Xander. I have reason to think this snake has two heads, maybe more."

Roland shakes your hand and looks at Connor as he leaves to his chambers with Lady callewyn and Father Calchis.

"He utterly hates me and any members of my church. Anyone with ties to being traders, so tos peak. I had considered leaving Halmathan, but after seeing this, I may have to keep around for awhile longer."

Bhagazzin gives you a strong handshake.

"He once told me that dwarves belonged underground. In mines. wanted to send me as a supervisor for Karyllyn's Mine up north saying I was best suited for the job. Stupid bloke. I was this close from separating his head from his neck. This close. He now keeps me uninformed of any royal audiences. This being a surprise for me."

You board the carriage and Jace exhales a sigh of relief.

"You know, Dantie. I'm glad the whole teleport issue was not brought in. I was ready to take the blame. Had this gone differently, you would probably be riding back to temple without me, as I would be heading to St. Noria's."

Once at the Temple of teh Shining One. Jace invites you to relax.

"Take your time. And be ready. Andrea will probably have strengthen her defenses."

Jace looks out the window.

"Where is Clover and Lady Silver?"

Sliver
2013-04-04, 04:00 PM
Clover notices the magical auras landing on the rooftops as the bells mark the end of the meeting. "I'll follow them... I rather distance myself from this temple..." She mentally tells Erethiel as she takes flight.

"What do you mean?" Clover asks with a smile, in her human form, walking into the main hall and carrying a few grapes. "I was left in charge of the gentlemen's equipment, and I kept it safe." She motions at the bags of holding.

Chewing on a grape, Clover looks at Dantie. "I am glad your stunt did not end up with you in chains, but I still question what good did it do." Clover stepped to the windows, standing by Jace, and used her Arcane Sight, making sure nobody was listening. "Has anyone who supported Connor, turned on him? Did you gain new support? Perhaps I have missed something, but the only thing I learned, is that Andrea isn't useful to Connor... Anymore. It could easily mean that Connor is able to use the quartz to suck magic on his own. I'm afraid that the best course of action I can imagine at this point would not be to chase down Andrea right away, but to research the plants while shutting down the quartz mine. With the pace they are working on the statue, who knows when it could be too late, while Andrea... Besides, with the creatures roaming her mansion, I do think we should gather more than a day's rest to take down her madness. Dantie, the last battle took a stronger toll on you than you'd like to admit... We shouldn't charge right back in."

2013-04-04, 04:11 PM
As Connor says to Dantie that he has a servant of the heavens sponsoring him he follows the mans gaze to Farther Jace and can not help but remember that the man was a half-celestial. I wounder who his parents were? Dantie says to himself. I see a fellow servant of Pelor High inquisitor Connor. Just because one is born from celestial parents dose not mean they serve the heavens. They have a free will just as there parents did. Dantie says as he hears Farther Jace tell them all who his farther is and a deep pain goes through his very soul as he realizes that Farther Jaces farther was the same man who had given up his life to protect them from the evil of the ghoul king. It only gave Dantie all the more reason to go there and set him free. Perhaps the locket could be used as a barging tool. Dantie thinks to himself as he looks to Farther Jace, sadness in his eyes. I could not agree more with what you have said Farther Jace. Dantie says to the man before turning his attention back to those assembled.

When Conor comments on the laws Dantie bows and replies, I mean no disrespect High inquisitor but most champions abide by the laws of their gods and not of man. I have asked you out of curtisy so that we may both be able to work without incident. And as such I will do my best to respect all the rules that are in this city. Are there any I should be aware of that would be extremely important for myself and Xander to follow. Dantie says making it clear that the laws of Pelor would come first, and then those of man, but also making it clear that he would try his best to abide by the laws and not break them. As you wish, If I have to subdue her though as it is the only way I myself will pay for the expenses to bring her back to life for proper law to be passed out. thank you Connor for your understanding and allowing us to speak here today. And I hope that we can continue to work together peacefully. I see greatness inside you, it just needs the glory of time to temper your hands I believe. Dantie says kindly to the man.

As Dantie gets the conflicting requests Dantie looks inside himself for an answer. When I bring her here before all of you she shall be dead. But she must face trial for her actions. Perhaps asking to be the one that deals the final blow to her at the execution would be in order? Dantie says to her. As for your sister if I find a way to bring her back as she once was I will try to reunite all those that have lost someone to these two. Your sister will be one of the first. Dantie says to her before watching her leave.

Well you must not have meet the shadowbane stalkers before. They would be quite intreged with your skills I am sure and happily accept you into there ranks. I was trying to convert one of those who traveled with me to this path before he passed. Dantie says kindly to the god of thieves. As for being an inquisitor. I was trained to be one, and I respect my duty, but I am a follower of Pelor first and foremost and know that when people suffer bad things always happen and they must do what they can to survive. It is why I try to always keep spare money on me so that they can be fed. And with that Dantie watches him leave. Any time lady Silivera. Dantie says.

This ought to be fun.

For her first spell, the one to set things going, appropriatly, she will target a group of Cuthbertines, inquisitors by preference, with a spell of confusion.
However, since she does not really want to hurt anyone, she modifies the spell a bit, on the fly.

Xander looks mildly disappointed Connor insisted on confiscating his samples, but saw little point in arguing the matter.
If you insist, I see little point in pressing the matter, it will simply delay my own research as I will have to replace the samples. I trust I will be privilege to the results of your diviners testing? It would obviously aid greatly, as I expect to encounter many more of these, and would like to be prepared.

Xander returns Roland's handshake.
I would worry not my friend, I do not suspect his reign will be long, do you still have a compound in Halmathan, or was it confiscated?

Xander shakes his head in disappointment at Bhagazzin's statement.
He has racial prejudices as well? Is there a fault he does not call his own? As to your presence today, Dantie had requested all heads of church be present, although I am surprised Connor did not conveniently forget the two of you. I am also curious the condition of the Temple of Kord, do you still have a compound in the city?

Once back at the temple, as Clover motions to the bag of holding, Xander retrieves his robe, and prepares himself to don the item a second time.
Thank you Clover, that meeting went surprisingly better than I had expected, have you seen Lady Silver?

Dantie, the spell you use to prevent the life from leaving our bodies if we are ever struck down, Revivify I believe, do you have any castings left today? I would like to store one in my ring, that way I can use it on you if you ever fall in combat again. Also, how long would you like to wait before we return to Andrea's? I can return us whenever we are all ready, and have decided on a location in her facility on which I can target.

Mentally to Erethiel.
The meeting with Connor has concluded, the rest of us have returned to the temple of Pelor, will you be returning soon?

Xander looks to Jace.
Father Jace, does the temple of Pelor have powerful paladins on its compound? I am looking to have a spell I have herd they are capable of casting cast into a new item I have found, I plan on visiting Sir Randolph and asking the same as well.

As to Xander knowing powerful paladins can cast type of spell he is looking for, I figure a knowledge religion of 14, and a spellcraft of 28 Xander would know of a large variety of divine spells, Favor of the Martyr is a lvl 4 pally spell from the SC, will need at least a lvl 14 paladin to cast the spell, since that the minimum lvl to unlock 4th lvl pally spells.

@Xander: Connor has the evidence taken away.

"I will have someone notiofy you, Xander Corillian, when our diviners have enough information regarding these plants."

Father Roland shakes his head as the Grand Inquisitor leaves.

"He has taken much of our equipment. Stating it is a danger to the city. Tell me, what danger is a pair of magical gloves and a few tool kits? He is insane, but I'd rather not speak any further in here. Connor seems to have eyes and ears everywhere. Take care."

Bhagazzin nods.

"That serpent has sent some of my faithful to Karyllyn's mine. Stating that the power granted by Kord will aid greatly in mining. He has offered a fee, of course. I tried to get a slavery charge against him, but the bastard was one step ahead from me. Given the escalating prices in the city, many have asked to be trasnferred to the mines to work."

Back at the Pelorite Temple, Jace listens to your request.

"Sir Leonard, of the house of Heironeous. Randolph's most trusted holy warrior. He surely will aid you in this cause."

@Dantie: You remember that fateful day when Cassiel fell to the abominable powers of Palindurias and his last words as an angel for you, Tarith, and Xander to run. Run as far away as possible. Then, a few days later, your encounter with the once proud angel, corrupted by the Rotten Child into a creature of absolute evil and shadow- a mockery of life stitched to perfection according to his master's whims.

To reveal such information to Jace would fall entirely up to you.

@Clover: You stand by the window with Jace and scan the area with your arcane sight.

All in the room emit loud readings, except for Dantie, whose spells have been reduced significantly. However, none outside in the courtyard, except for small redaings from very visible neophytes.

Jace listens to your questions and goes deep in thought.

"Katherine of Muoquol has been a stalwart supporter of him. Of the other churches, well. He isn't getting much support from the Heironites. My stand with him is as diplomatic as possible, except for a march I participated a few days prior. The Kordites and the Olidammarans particularly, would like to have the town crier announce him dead in his bed one morning. The problem, as I see it, is that the armed forces in the city have such a devotion to the king, that will not allow chaos to fall if different factions were to seize power or struggle. Many grumble under their breath that Connor, insane and wicked as many would be ready to call him, does maintain a sort of...order in the city. A thin balance as it may be."

@Erethiel: You watch from the rooftops as the guards stumble around like zombies from some old tale.

Having fun?

You hear a voice behind you and turn to see where it's coming from.

A man in armor and a red cloak, floating a few inches from the ground. Hooded.

Erethiel, taking her opportunity, casts one final spell, staying to see it's effect.

She will cast Phantom Battle, modified, of course, to be more... entertaining.
A small group of wizards throwing a party(and showing off, with things like color spray, silent images, minor conjurations, that sort of thing), and a group of nymphs, traveling around, clearly enjoying themselves.

Inside the carriage

As Farther Jace says how happy he is that they got away with the teleporting trick and how he would have taken the blame Dantie looks at him and says Connor was going to try but I made sure I could tell the truth without telling the truth. As you see if Xander said we teleported to me I would know the truth, but as he did not I only knew that I awoke inside the temple of Pelor. In my eyes that is a miracle and divine intervention. Dantie says before his tone becomes more solom. As for you going to prison for me, your family has done more then you realize for me. If you were to go to prison for me I would have to break the law to release you as I owe your family much. Dantie says to the man, hoping he did not ask.

Once back at the temple Dantie looks to Clover who looks no worse for ware and with a smile thanks her for the looking over his equipment. Its a good thing we went unarmed. As it was it was civil enough. That may be perhaps do to his belief he thinks Xander and myself work alone. Dantie says to her as he begins rearming himself once more.

As Clover questions what good Danties meeting did a bright smile crossed his face. Well for one it told me he does not have the whole city under a seal that allows him to know when someone teleports, nor were they went to or from. It also filled all the other heads of church in on what he would have kept hidden from them and got us to meet the leaders of the churches of Kord and Olimanda. After all knowing who your allies are and not is part of the battle. Dantie says to her. The royal guard for one do not wish to see him in power and only serve him because they have to do to him having the backing of the king. Dantie informs her. We also learned that not all among those inside his church are blinded by his ways and even some try to help the people. Most of the churches seem to be on our side and if we were forced to march to war with him they would follow. It seems though that as you have stated the mines are our biggest threat at this time, as the church of trade refuse to acknowledge our warnings about the Las Plagus. Dantie says before looking to Xander and Clover. We may be in for a long battle you know, and if any proof of us attacking the establishment escapes we will be called criminals and hunted down. Dantie then thinks of the creatures inside that mansion of horrors and nods in understanding. you may be right Clover but we will still have to move with haste. As I said if we stay ideal to long we will draw attention.

At Xander

Yes I do happen to have such a spell ready. I guess I could use it for the day on the ring. Bring it here please. Dantie says preparing the words in his mind for the ritual.

While Danite is doing that, Xander continues his conversation with Father Jace.
Ah, that is truly excellent news, I will have to visit him as soon as we are done here. Do any of the rest of you have any business with the temple of Heironeous?
After Dantie is done with his ring, Xander waits to see if anyone else needs anything from him, if not he leaves for the temple of Heironeous, and requests Sir Randolph, hoping he can introduce him to Sir Leonard.

@Erethiel: As Lady Godefroy gets ready to board her carriage, she stops to see the bumbling guards bonk heads once more before resuming position.

"What in the King's name are these fools doing?"

Then, a festival of colors, as a few wizards teleport around the Royal Guards and begin throwing sparkles of color into the air. One of them skips about the carriage tossing glitterdust. Another one, dressed as a jester laughs silently as he shoots pyrotechnics in the air. Captain Godefroy look at the spectacle as she tries to reach her carriage, only to find a trio of nude nymphs, beautiful in their design, dancing silently on the roof as the lights and colors invade the area.

"What madness is this? Stop at once! Do you want to be arrested. Guards! Go get them!"

The Captain of the Royal Guard and her retinue of six royal guards try to stop these mad wizards.

@Erethiel: As the phantom party dances and casts around Captain Godefroy and her retinue, you see Connor and a group of high ranking Cuthbertines coming out.

"What in the hells is this. Captain Godefroy! Do you not see this is an illusion! Go back to the palace and prepare as instructed!"

He turns to one of his Cuthbertines.

"Send word to Runestone Academy. Time to put these arcanists in their place."

@Dantie: Jace listens to your words in the carriage and smiles.

"We are all one family, Dantie. My father, Cassiel, has been absent for a long time. I am certain he serves the Shining One in Elysium. One day, I shall see him."

@Xander: You stretch your hand out to Dantie with the most powerful ring of theurgy attached firmly to your finger. Dantie looks at the ring and intones the ancient words taught to all pelorites by the Shining One himself.

You then watch a portion of his wondrous power being siphoned into the ring. You may be, as far as you are concerned, the only arcanist to truly wield the power of the divine without ever donning the cloth.

Once that is done, you head to The Church of Heironeous. Sir Randolph greets you at the temple gates.

"I may be caged once more, but by the Archpaladin, when these bars are weak enough, I shall break free, Xander. And Connor will know what a mistake he has done."

You explain to him that you require the power of a well trained paladin.

"Please wait here, Xander. Call Sir Leonard!"

A few minutes later, a man in his late twenties comes in, clad in full plate and with dark auburn hair. The man kneels to sir Randolph.

"Leonard. That is not necessary. You are my best paladin. Xander Corillian, however. the gentleman here, may need your assistance."

Sir Leonard bows and walks up to you.

"Master Corillian, what is it you require from the me? If you are sponsored by Sir Randolph, you can count on me for any help you may need."

Meanwhile, in the Ward... (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_j2xNd15eU)

The First watches the events from his throne, now fully restored to his former health, as the antics outside of the Cuthbertine Temple take place, due to Erethiel's tricks

The First leans forward to watch the insanity laid before him in a mirror.

"Why are we wasting time with this city, Valtalis? Halmathan is nothing compared to what our goal truly is."

Valtalis, former deposed Grand Archmage of Halmathan hands a rod to Maximiliian.

"My lord, our forces are already en route to the temple. Our victory is assured. This....this is a matter of payback. A small indulgence on my part. I have awaited five hundred years, and now, it is time for that city to burn. Good for us, that this human is an ambitious and zealous sort. He will not question what the control rod can do. When he does, it will be too late. Like I said, a small payback for their audacity to exile me."

Maximilliian, ever loyal to his creator, takes the rod in his metal hands.

"Do not give it to anyone but Connor. He has agreed to maintain secrecy. It will serve us well."

The First looks at the screen and tightens his grip on the tentacle rod in his hand.

"Apart from this stupid diversion of yours, I must say that all is going according to plan. Once the dryad has the ritual, I want to descend upon Oerth myself. And my first target will be the right gauntlet. She seems most kind and gentle. A perfect piece for my complete assembly."

Valtalis bows to the first.

"As you wish. The power of the Positive Plane will surely aid you in acquiring the other five pieces. By now, Nerine, Luther, and Kazym are sure to incite a war between Earth and Fire. after that, it's just a matter of collecting the pieces and assembling them in perfect order...I must wonder. How will we get Negative and Air? water should not be a problem, but those two could be a problem."

The First looks at Valtalis.

"Once the right gauntlet is mine, acquiring the other five will be extremely simple. I have foreseen it, elf. I cannot fail. Our goal to reunite the armor will be complete and then..."

Valtalis looks at his master as Maximillian takes the rod from his hands.

"Then what?", the grey elf looks at him for guidance.

"Then absolute control, Valtalis. The gods themselves will bow at our feet. True knowledge shall be unleashed. Power unlike any you have ever displayed or known will be awakened. And all under our rule..."

The First switches to a scene on screen of Arrallae.

"Feisty little one. She I shall enjoy turning the most, followed by Bandobras."

Valtalis opens a portal to Halmathan, showing a corridor inside the Cuthbertine temple.

"You know what to do, Max."

The cloaked construct takes the rod, bows, and enters the portal.

Clover examines Dantie carefully. "Do you think the information you obtained was really worth showing almost all our cards? I can't say I appro-" Clover pauses, them smiles. "No, I can say. Good job, Dantie. We can't play this game the way Connor does, he has far more resources than us and he is well versed and experienced in the art of deceit. Shaking up the playing field is the best way to keep us on as even playing field as possible. I hope you are aware that technically, we are criminals. Not for breaking some of the stupid rules Connor has placed. But he is currently the ruler and we are conspiring. We are rebels... You are taking the law into your own hands, Dantie, even if Connor is unable to call you out on it publicly, in any significant way."

"Anyway... I had my suspicions practically confirmed by Xander, but I need to make sure. Hathway is a spellthief that is in charge of the quartz statue project in St. Noira. He isn't simply working for Connor, but related. There are two main theories I have about that... Either he is Connor's father, reincarnated, or he is his son. Other theories exist, but they aren't as likely. I don't think Connor would create a young clone of himself, or that they would look so similar if they weren't related so closely. I don't believe that it is a disguise, nor that Connor would have a twin that was on a different plane where time moved slower than here..."

Turning to Jace, Clover continued. "Would you have a way of contacting the Pelorite temple in Justcrown? I want them to check at the hall of the dead for a body... The Kenways were hung, so bodies should remain. There might be a dead body left, but it could be a decoy. Optimally, if you could ask them to send in a cleric powerful enough to speak with the dead to confirm whether it's Haythan's corpse or not."

"Wonder how old he is... If it's his son, that would mean Connor trained him, or knows another spellthief to do so..." Clover frowned. Would Connor train a son, but didn't care if she is sent to die? Does she have a half-brother, or a living grandfather?

I would hope for no less Sir Randolph, but until then I must ask for a little more patience once this Andrea situation is handled, we can begin addressing the matter of your cage, and jailer.
Once Sir Leonard had been summoned, Xander returns the mans bow.
Thank you for your quick response, I have a rather simple matter that I am hoping you will be able to assist with, it seems I regularly find myself in rather dire situations, where the ability to shrug off various conditions may lead to the saving of countless lives, through my research I learned of a spell powerful paladins could cast that would grant me the abilities I am looking for, albeit for a short period of time, but any amount is better than none. The spell I believe has regularly been called Favor of the Martyr, and I am hoping you can cast the spell into this ring I recently acquired, so I may call upon its power when I find myself in need. I can of course pay any necessary fees for such a casting.

As Farther Jace is so oblivious to the truth Dantie knows he has to tell the man the truth and so he looks to Farther Jace. High Farther I must inform you that your farther is on this plane, and even though he would wish to be I am sure, is not under the service of Pelor. But instead a dark and powerful necromancer who has transformed him into a nightwalker. This would be the same necromancer who has stolen most of the caged bears family. Dantie says to the man waiting for the reaction he was sure to get from the old Pelorite.

As Xander heads off to the temple of Heironeous Dantie stays behind to speak with Clover. We must abide by the laws he has presented to us Clover. What we are doing is simply making sure that the true king still has a kingdom to come back to. Dantie says with a smile. After all if he were to come back and all were under Connors will what would he have to come back to in truth besides an empty seat that Connor would not return to him. Dantie says with a smile as he looks to Clover who has finally caught onto the whole ploy he has been trying to do since he was brought back to life. As for me taking the law into my own hands...I would like to say it is my job as an inquisitor to do so if those who are in power are doing everything they can to place hardship on the people. It has opened for me and you the right to investigate if you will and during an investigation we are subject to the laws of gods not men. However, she is able to complete her dive, and continue running, the majority of the arrows bouncing off of an invisible shield around her, or off of her clothing. @The Party: You are attending your own businesses when all over the city, town criers begin announcing a grave alert.

City Under Siege! City Under Siege! His Holiness the Grand Inquisitor target of a vile assassination attempt! Monster still at large! Beware the winged elf maiden! For she is a portent of Ruin! All citizens are tasked with locking their doors and windows. All guards are to be on highest alert! City Under Siege! City Under Siege!

@Erethiel: You fly to an alley and push you back against a wall. The guards march around the streets as you can hear the town criers all over Halmathan. The guards may not be able to catch you, but if that man in red decides to hunt you down himself...

That's when you spot the little girl from earlier. The one you helped from the guards. The little girl looks at you and then runs inside and pulls the arm of a scrawny yung lady.

"See, mama? I told you the angel lady was real! She's there!"

I am sorry farther Jace, but know that your farther is ot lost. Their is another I know that has the powers to bring him back. And she will glady do so. I just need to stop the mad man myself that was responsible. As sending armies will only make him stronger. Xander and myself have dealt with him before, and know how to do so again. Dantie says hoping to ease the mans pain just a bit.

As they arrive at the temple Dantie looks to farther Jace and nods in understanding. Take your time high farther. If you would like I will take on your responsibility until you are ready to do so yourself. Dantie says bowing to him and letting him know that he was not alone in this time of darkness.

Just then Dantie hears the town crier and what she is saying. Winged elf...Oh no. Dantie says to himself before thinking that she was worst then even Tarith was. Looking to all the pelorites that were outside the outpost at this time he told them all to go inside and lock up behind him. And with that he went to join the search in a two block radius of the church of Pelor.

Just over 24 seconds... for a message to be passed all over town.
Now, that is impressive.

Erethiel, blood running down her wings and legs, and her robes more dark violet than grey, with several arrows, and broken off arrowheads sticking in her, a small pool of blood forming beneath her, looks to the little girl she helped save, and smiles.

"Of course I am real. After all, if no one will help a little girl that a guard is planning on murdering, what is the city coming to? Connor can only force these insane rules on people because they let him do so."
Erethiel looks over herself, leaning against the wall now, smearing it with blood.
"Then again, I suppose the massive numbers of insanely loyal guards who try to kill on sight might have something to do with it. Speaking of massive numbers of guards, is there any chance that you will let me stay here for a bit, and that you have some bandages? For some reason, the thief, Connor, wants me rather dead."

@Xander: Sir Leonard bows and looks at the ring.

"I do hope it serves you well, Master Corillian. For what troubling times that lay ahead of us."

Just then, the town crier announces a most dark portent about news of a failed assassination attempt at Connor.

"Pity they failed." Sir Randolph looks through the window as the local and royal guard mobilizes through the street.

You contact Anzaril.

Xander, darling! yes! Rosalind just left. She had a strange emotional moment with Arrallae. She was crying, but then, just like that, she got up and smiled again and walked to Justcrown. She should be there already. Do you want me to send her a message?

@Dantie: Jace looks at you and places his hand on your shoulder.

"My father was...is a very honorable man, Dantie. I trust he fought valiantly by your side. Please take care of things here while I gather my thoughts."

Jace leaves for his bedchambers.

Just then, the town crier announces a winged elf assassin. Knowing few winged elves in your travels. One being Clover, but she is with you and that's one of her forms, you gather it maybe, just maybe, these news relate to Erethiel, who did not return.

You ask all the neophytes to enter the temple and lock it up and walk outside to assist in the city wide search.

You do know the city is large. Over a million people, but she should be easy to locate through magic.

A garrison of royal guards marches in front of the temple.

"Sir! By orders pf His Grace, the Grand Inquisitor, all citizens must be inside their homes and centers of worship."

@Erethiel: It is an amazing kind of town

Badly wounded and bleeding, you manage to keep your eyes opened from succumbing to the pain and explain your views on Connor. The woman looks at you, then at her daughter. She quickly looks both ways in the alley as the sound of marching boots starts getting closer.

"Inside, now!"

You are brought into a small apartment, no more than twenty feet wide by ten feet tall. A small bed serves as resting place for her and the kids. A dresser stands to the left. A wash basin on the ground next to it and a small pot in the fireplace.

A table set for three has the bread basket you saw earlier.

"I'm Amanda. These are my kids, Jack and Francine. They told me an angel rescued them from the guards not too long ago. Miss, please lay down. Jack! Bring e the bandages. Francine! Boil some water!"

Amanda examines your wounds.

"To do this to such a pretty lady. Connor is truly a monster. You will be safe here."

At the woman's request, Erethiel staggers inside the house, speaking simply to her "Thank you for your kindness." As she progresses into the small apartment, she looks around, noticing the homey touches, the simple decor, but seeing the love that truly makes a place a home, and feels safe, at least for a time.
As she is instructed to lie down, she does so, trying to avoid getting blood on anything.
"He is monstrous indeed. Thank you for your hospitality."

And... last post for the night.

@Erethiel: Amanda tends to your wounds as Jack brings some bandages from the dresser and Francine announces the water is hot. Amanda wets the bandages in the water and looks at you as she notices the arrow heads in multiple parts of your body.

"This may hurt, madam. Please be strong."

The pain is unbearable as Amanda plucks out the arrow heads one by one, being quick to apply the bandages with hot water to each wound.

The children stand at the foot of the bed, looking teary eyed.

"Don't kill her, mama!"

Amanda smiles warmly to her children.

"She'll be fine. Remember when you got a splinter running barefoot? It's just like that. She'll be fine."

You hear guards a few feet away in the street, knocking on doors from other apartments.

Have you seen a winged elf? She was last seen flying around this city block. She is badly injured and bleeds profusely. We should remind you, citizen: Hiding law breakers is a felony and will result in immediate arrest.

Clover looks at Dantie as the message is heard. "She's capable. She can handle her own problems. If they know we are allies, it could do more harm than good." Clover stands up and stretches. "Welp, doesn't sound more convincing when I say it out loud. Shall we go?"

While Dantie takes the frontal approach, Clover goes invisible and takes it to the skies, while maintaining close enough distance to Dantie.

As Clover says the same thing he is thinking Dantie only hopes that the church of thieves finds her first and praises her as a hero. I could not agree more. But we can at least make it seem like we are helping in the search. Dantie says in kind as he turns around the second Connor on the left hand side of the temple. Clover would you mind searching the first block we passed? That way we do not miss much? Dantie asks mentally as he continues to aid in the search.

Not far down the second block Dantie sees a troop of guards coming towards him and looks a bit curious. Surely they can no think I look like a winged female. Dantie says to himself as he meets them close to the end of the street. Well it is a good thing I am not a citizen and a fellow Inquisitor then is it not? Dantie says to the royal guard. If it makes you feel better I am only patrolling in a two block radius around my church so that no harm comes to my flock. They are after all one of the most important things to me, and if someone were to try to assassinate Connor what is to say they would not target them. Dantie says respectfully to the man before him.

As Amanda asks her to be strong, Erethiel nods, tears running down her face, which only grow more prolific as the arrows are removed.
"Please, be careful with the ones in my wings. They are rather delicate, and they heal slowly."
When the children express their concern for their savior, Erethiel turns her head to them, and smiles.
"I will survive. Really, it looks worse than it is."

When it seems that the guards are knocking on the doors nearby, and Amanda is still not done, Erethiel looks to her, eyes wide in concern for herself, and the children.
"Is there somewhere here for the children, or myself, to hide while you convince them that I am not here? I may be able to use magic to conceal us as well"

A winged elf maiden...I wonder...
Xander tries sending a mental message to everyone on the link, as he crosses over to Sir Randolph. (Erethiel included)
This elf the city is enraged about, do any of you know what is going on? Lady Silver, you are still out, have you seen anything amiss?
Once he reaches the window.
Their success would have simplified things, however it would leave many loose ends, and he should answer to the king himself.

Mentally to Anzaril.
If you would, please ask her to visit Silas once she arrives in Justcrown, and message her husband once she arrives, I will communicate through them.
As to her emotional moment, I suspect it was due to an unfortunate encounter which caused Dantie's soul to temporarily leave his body...we have since returned him to life, and he is doing well. But I believe Tarith said those wedding rings would inform the other one if they should die, and I know Arrallae has blessed him, she may be able to to sense his life force through her blessing.

Mentally to Danite.
I asked Anzaril to have Rosalind visit Silas when she first arrives in Justcrown, I want to warn him about the Slaadi Lord, and request he look into a personal matter for me, Silas should know of the danger, and begin preparing, since the temple district was the last location of S'Btoam's prison, I suspect it will be one where the creature will begin its revenge, or at least make a early target, with hope Silas will provide her an escort as well for her protection.

Lady Silver, are you there?...Erethiel?
Dantie, Clover, Lady silver is not responding, am I beginning to wonder if she may be the winged elf the criers are buzzing about, but why would she attempt to assassinate Connor, that does not seem like her...and why can she not communicate with us?

@Clover: You decide to join Dantie in the city wide search for Erethiel, assuming it is Erethiel the town criers are babbling about.

Veiling yourself in illusions and taking to the skies, you maintain a prudent distance from Dantie, as he negotiates with a garrison of guards below.

Oddly enough, some guards have taken to the skies as well. Hopefully, they won't have the ability to see those under magical disguise.

@Xander: You contact all through the mental link.

Erethiel's line gives off loud static. She's either cut the link herself, or...

Sir Randolph looks out the window as guards march and fly through the skies of Halmthan.

"Of course. Magic is forbidden to all unless it affects him personally. How convenient for that sodding snake. Will you stay in the Temple or go out there and find this assassin, Xander?"

You contact Anzaril, instructing her to communicate with Rosalind and alert Silas of any potential danger regarding S'Btoam.

Of course, Xander! I had no idea it was such a dangerous matter. I will send a message to Rosalind, who should be at the southern gates to Justcrown by now. She will go see Silas and then communicate with Dantie immediately...

...and here I thought you guys were the ones dealing with problems over there.

@Dantie: The royal guard looks at you and listens to your words, nodding.

"You are right. You are High father's representative, are you not? Then, by all means, you are welcome to assist in the search. A word of caution, though- the assassin is quite versed in mental manipulation, having tried to influence his Grace to commit suicide. We are fortunate His Holiness was able to repel the mental assault. Also, you may have noticed some patrols airborne. They are under His Grace's direct permission. Please limit your search to the streets."

@Erethiel: You lie in bed as Amanda patches your wounds. Then, the hard knock on the door.

"Citizen! Open the door. In the name of the Law!"

Jack and Francine look at both of you and start shaking.

Mama, the city guard. The angel! they whisper in fear.

Amanda looks at you and then at the dresser.

"I will need you to hide. Can you do that?"

Amanda hides the bloody bandages under the bed sheets and carries the water bin towards the table.

"One minute! Getting lunch ready!"

The knocks come in stronger.

Amanda motions for the kids to sit on the table.

You two look at your plate and eat. Make no eye contact, ok?

Jack and Francine do as instructed, while their little legs shake beneath the table.

Amanda opens the door slowly and is pushed back as a guard opens it completely.

A rather large guard, probably a sergeant stands at the thresh hold, with a group of four other men behind him. A different group of guards knock on other doors across the street and a few look at the streets for any sign or trace of the culprit.

Amanda stands straight as she addresses the soldier.

"Good afternoon, sir. How may I help you?"

The guard looks at her and takes out a piece of paper.

"Citizen! Have you not heard the town criers all over the city? An assassin runs loose in Halmathan and has dared raise its vile hand against the King's Representative. His Holiness, Connor of the Cudgel. The monster looks like an elven maiden, with wings. The attack on his Grace wasn't too far from here... you haven't seen anything? I must remind you, Citizen. As the royal guard seems to recognize him Dantie lets lose a sigh of relief as he listens to what he has to say. Thank you for allowing me to aid you in this search. If I may ask though do you know exactly what happened? All I have heard so far is that someone tried to kill the inquisitor. Also I have never heard of such magic that could make someone kill themselves? How odd. Dantie says as if thinking about it. I have heard of such spells being able to make you do things you otherwise wouldn't. My training prepared me for that, but to actually kill someone...I think that is a bit of a stretch. In either case I shall stay within a two block radius of my church. I just do not want my flock to come to any harm and have had them lock the doors. If you need to get in please have your men call me personally as I have asked them not to answer to anyone but me and the high inquisitor himself because of what is going on. I hope you understand. Dantie says to the guard as he continues to walk around the two block radius of the church Taking another right as he comes to the second block. Well this is my turn. I shall call you when and if I find this assassin. Dantie says before mentally informing the others of what he has uncovered. Xander is it even possible for such magic to exist? Dantie asks his friend as he heads back to the church after covering a two block radius. Waiting for clover to be near him before he has the door opened.

You, however, chose the wrong target today. And I can assure you, Erethiel Faelandariel, that once this trial is complete, you will not be seeing the light of day ever again!"

Connor looks through his book of records.

"Hmmm... no name is registered here...what a surprise.. Guard! Bring her gear to me."

One of the guards carries your belongings in a box.

"Well, what do we have here. Items of tremendous magical power at your disposal. I am sure you have a permit around here to signify they have been properly recognized by the Church of the Cudgel for purchase within the city... no. Of course not, not a single document to show it."

Connor looks at you with a smile beneath grey mustache.

"Erethiel Faelandariel, you are charged with illegal entry to the city of Halmathan. You are charged with acquisition of items of power not recognized by the City. You are charged with illegal use of magic within city bounds. You are charged with attempting on the life of a member of the Royal Council...how do you plead?"

I know Ganden I know. Now tell me Gandan, if you were in a situation where revealing to much could get you into trouble yourself, while not showing your cards would keep all those present safe until a further time what would you do? Dantie says thinking before he gets up. Last rights. Every person before being sent off to death must be given there last rights and there final meal. Dantie says picking up his sword. I should not be to long. Please do not let anyone disturb Farther Jace, and if he asks where I am let him know please. Dantie says before calling a carriage to him. Xander were are you? I would advise heading towards the temple of Pelor at this moment as things may get dicey. That or to runestone academy. With luck one will be safe. Then to the cabby out loud he asks to be brought to the temple of the cudgel to see the trial.

Mentally to Anzaril.
Rest assured, we have more than our fair share problems at the moment. Think of it another way, the two of you are simply helping arrange Dantie and I's next visit.

Why talking with Sir Randolph, and deliberating joining the search or not, the second announcement comes through.
So the poor soul has already been caught...Sir Randolph what will it take for us to learn the identity of this assassin?

Mentally to Dantie.
I am sure such magic exist, however it would take a truly weak mind to have the will to live overcome so easily...no doubt in Connors case, I suspect it was a much lesser spell, which he has exaggerated.
I am at the Temple of Heironeous, I can head to the temple of Pelor if you wish, why would Runestone be in danger, was this assassin from the academy?

@Erethiel: One of the priests turns to Connor.

"Your Grace, what the accused says rings true. You have been a victim of one the charges you have raised against her. Should you not allow someone else to preside the trial?"

Connor cracks his neck and you can swear you see a vein on his forehead about to erupt as he turns to his fellow Cuthbertine.

"Must I remind you that I am the Law? I can, under powers granted by His Majesty himself, act as Judge, Jury, and Executioner if the situation calls for it. My life, the life of this city's prosperity has been jeopardized because of the vile magic of this hybrid. I will not allow someone else to preside this trial!"

Connor the turns to look at you.

"Erethiel Faelandariel, since you have no rights here as a citizen, I could, by a wave of my hand, have you sent to the deepest cell in St. Noria's. That is, of course, unless you have someone willing to represent you?"

Connor chokes as he tries to emulate a laugh.

@Xander: Anzaril's tone changes from flirtatious to concerned.

I had no idea! I will make sure Rosalind gets in touch with Silas, Xander. And will inform you immediately about it.

Sir Randolph looks out the window as the crowds begin to fill the streets again.

"Well, if Connor caught this assassin. He will likely have a private trial. The heads of church will not be called, unless someone can present a case that calls for a matter of national urgency, like the Andrea Swayne hearing."

@Dabtie: Gaden listens to your question, not sure if his answer will be right or wrong.

"...well, father. I would save it for when the moment is most dire."

You call out a cab and the coachman bows.

"Father! To the Temple of the Cudgel! Just went by not too long ago. Pretty girl in chains being dragged in. The demon whisperer they call her in the streets. Hop in, free of charge!"

You reach the Cuthbertine Temple and the guards bow to you and allow you entrance.

You reach the stairs leading down to the Amphitheater of Truth where a pair of guards stand in your way.

"Greetings, Father Silva. We are honored to have you here. I a afraid an audience with his grace is impossible right now. There si a trial in session."

"Um... Sorry for interrupting, but aren't I being charged under Cuthbertine law, not Halmathan law? And under that law, wouldn't you be prohibited from presiding over the trial? Can I appeal to a higher authority in the Cuthbertine church?"

As Connor once more states that she is not a citizen, Erethiel looks confused
"What makes you think that I am not a citizen? I was not carrying any such papers on me, but then, how many do when they are simply out for an evening stroll?"

AlanBruce
2013-04-07, 12:08 AM
@Erethiel: Connor looks at you and smiles beneath his thick grey mustache.

"It is clear to me that you are nothing but a drifter. A blade for sale. His Majesty has appointed the Church of St. Cuthbert to dispense Law in all levels. It is our sacred duty. And I its highest exemplar."

Connor looks at your items of power then looks at you.

"Every single resident here- be it citizen or traveler, must carry their papers. Didn't you get the informative pamphlet? Of course, you were too busy plotting my demise!"

One of the priests raises his hand nervously.

"Y...Your Grace?"

Connor turns to the other cleric, fire of hate in his eyes.

"What."

The cleric steps forward.

"Your Grace. The accused may receive a trial proper if she has registered kin in the city or if a Halmathan or an appointed by a citizen offers to represent her."

Connor leans back in his chair.

"Well, Erethiel Faelandariel, if you can produce through magic someone that fits such criteria, then you may have a chance. But I am a lot more realistic- nobody will come to your aid. You are alone, chained and at the mercy of the Cudgel. Let that sink in, assassin."

This post is made with the assumption that she is a citizen, and has the papers on her at present, where the inquisition did not find them.

"I think that any examination of my gear will find no weapons of any sort. That makes it rather hard to be a sell-sword, does it not? Not having a weapon? Are you really the High Priest of Cuthbert? I thought I remembered something about you being banished from another city in disgrace."
Erethiel pauses for a moment, clearly thinking
"Justcrown, wasn't it? Anyway, regardless, I have a hard time believing that you are the highest ranked Cuthbertine alive. As for carrying my papers, well, I am afraid that I am a little chained up at the moment, so producing them might be a bit difficult, and I would rather not make the attempt, as it would likely produce more bleeding, and they are probably already ruined as it is."

When Connor asks her to teleport someone to represent her to her current location, Erethiel looks shocked
"I thought teleportation magic was banned? Shouldn't a judge not be ordering a prisoner to break the law? Not that it matters, since I am not capable of such magic. And please, unless I am declared guilty, I am only an alleged assassin, which is quite different. Besides, working magic while I am chained here would be rather... difficult. Perhaps if you removed these chains, I could get someone I know in to represent me. After all, I have been in the city for some time."

@Erethiel: Connor's gavel hammers the podium several times with fearsome wrath.

"You best choose your words very carefully, hybrid! You already have four charges against you. I will not have any problem adding Slander to the list!"

One of the guards rummages through your bag.

"The accused is indeed a citizen, your Grace. Here are the papers."

Connor looks at them carefully.

"Have them inspected. I am certain they are forged, anyways."

He looks down at you.

"If you think I will release you from your chains, you are gravely mistaken. As for magic, it was merely a facetious comment. Your kind lacks a sense of subtlety in words. There is no way you will be allowed to use your vile powers. Now, you mentioned you have someone to represent you? Who could possibly be willing to lay their reputation for you?"

@Clover: Once Dantie has left the Temple, you are left in the dining room savoring some grapes when Jace enters.

The Highfather seems quite sullen. The news given to him by dantie earlier have taken its toll, but he still manages to smile as he takes a seat at the table and takes some grapes.

"I see Dantie has left for the Temple of the Cudgel again. I hope it goes as smoothly as it went last time."

Jace looks out the window then turns to look at you.

"You asked me earlier about people in Justcrown? Who, exactly?"

Once more, Erethiel turns to the other priests, asking a simple legal question:
"Can I get someone arrested for slander if they are calling me an assassin, stating that my documents are forgeries, calling me a she devil, accusing me of plotting his demise, threatening my life, stating that my magic is vile, calling me hybrid, clear discrimination against me, and stating that I am a habitual liar? That seems pretty slanderous to me, and, after all, slander is a crime."

Erethiel calmly turns back to Connor
"Now, as for my representative, I am sure that there is a cleric of Cuthbert here that is actually willing to see that justice is done, is there not? If not in this room, then surely there must be one in the temple, somewhere."

Clover looks up at Jace. "Oh, right. Yes, hmmm... Ask Father Wilhelm, tell him that the request is on behalf of Armaita's daughter."

She goes quiet for a moment. "I am sorry, father Jace, but if it's not too much of an intrusion, what is the matter that is so heavy on your heart?"

AlanBruce
2013-04-07, 01:28 AM
@Erethiel: You look at the other clerics and ask about raising charges for slander.

"You could, yes. However, given your current situation as being accused, I am afraid that his Grace cannot be accused of such acts at this time. If you are proven innocent, you could file against him..."

Connor looks at the priest.

"...but it is not recommended."

Regarding a representative at trial, the other cleric raises his hand.

"Inquisitor Calchis is a peerless examiner of the Law! He has been our most high ranked inquisitor for many decades and he..."

"..will not be taking part of this trial, I'm afraid. Father Calchis has been dispatched to the northern lands to bring back his Majesty. As we speak, the venerable cleric is preparing himself mentally for the task at hand. I am certain that the Cudgel can provide you with adequate representation."

Connor calls a guard and writes down a name on a piece of paper.

A few minutes go by and a weak knock is heard from one of the doors at ground level.

"Come in."

A wiry looking priest, no more than eighteen walks in. The child has the cuthbertine robes, but not the inquisitor attire that marks Connor and the rest. He carries a stack of heavy books in his hands.

"Father Darren. How good of you to join us."

Drren bows to all present, as a book slips from his grasp and is quick to pick them up.

"The honor is all mine, Your Grace."

Connor looks at you.

"Father Darren is a mighty exemplar of the Law. Although not ordained as an official Inquisitor, his knowledge of Halmathan's laws is flawless. He will represent you."

Darren looks at you and then at the Inquisitors.

"I am? Uh yes! Why, thank you, your Grace."

@Clover: Jace sighs.

"It is hard, child. When you have not seen your father for such a long time. You grow trying to be like him. To stand proud not in cover of his shadow, but at his side. And now, my father has become shadow. And I fear that, although Dantie has promised to lay him to rest, I will take this task myself. It will be the least I can do for him..."

Jace looks at you.

"And what about your father? Do you also stand by his shadow or by his side?"

At the request to contact Wilhelm, Jace nods.

"Armaita... of course. Please wait."

Jace sits on the chair and closes his eyes for a second.

"Very well, child, I have contact with him. What do you wish for me to ask?"

As she sees the boy come in, Erethiel smiles, as while he might not have the guts to face Connor, he would most likely have the knowledge. Dancing through the laws should be an interesting experience. So long as the boy keeps his nerve, anyway.
"Ah, most excellent. Thank you, Father Darren. I am glad to see that there is one priest here that is willing to actually try and represent the law, rather than his own prejudices, and fear of his superior, even if he is even younger than I am. Odd that there are no inquisitors capable of doing so, but after all, they can hardly be expected to deal with such petty things as justice, now can they? Now, may I confer with my representative in private? After all, we must organize a defense to respond to the allegations presented by the judge, jury and executioner, as well as other things."

"Yes... Could you tell Father Wilhelm that I need a body identified? Haythan Kenway's body might be missing or switched with a body of another... Speaking with the Dead might be necessary. Ask him if he is familiar with the name Hathway, a man who is related to Connor."

@Erethiel: Connor raises an eyebrow at your comment.

"The Inquisition is more than capable, accused Erethiel. This matter does not require the other inquisitors to be present, as I am certain it will be quite fast."

Connor looks at one of the guards.

"The accused is not to be unchained at any time, is that understood? You have five minutes to prepare your opening statement."

Connor and the other two Inquisitors leave the room, taking the box with your belongings and leaving you with two guards on the second floor and one a few feet away on the same ground floor as you.

Darren walks up to you, carrying the books.

"You are lady Erethiel. A pleasure. I'd shake your hand, but, well... the chains. Now, uh we need to present a solid opening statement. His Grace seems most adamant in finding you guilty. Let's see, you broke edict number 405-B, which prohibits the use of magic publicly. Then there was the illegal entry charge, which has been lifted since you have been found to be a citizen, so that is not a problem. Then we have edict 405-C possession of illegal items of power, which we can plead ignorance not guilty to, since acquisition of such items could have been obtained before your arrival here..."

Darren goes silent.

"The problem, I suspect will be the charge against his Grace's life. I am, of course open to suggestions."

@Clover: Jace looks at you and smiles warmly.

"Remember, Clover. We are all given a chance to forgive and be forgiven. Your father may have done things you disagree with, but if you never have a chance to talk to him. Make him understand, and forgive, then that is one thing that will linger in your heart for the rest of your life. And there is no magic I know of that could take that away."

Jace goes silent as he speaks mentally to Wilhelm.

"A decent fellow, Wilhelm. He will be going to see the body at the graveyard in the Cuthbertine Fortress there. He says he did know a Hathan Kenway, tried and hanged years ago. Clover, he says Armaita has left for Halmathan."

Meanwhile, outside the Amphitheater of Truth and in Connor's chambers...

Connor shuts the door hard and sits on his chair as he contemplates the possibilities of this trial.

Audacious little rat! I will end her! I am the Law here. Nobody makes a fool out of me!

Just then, a shadow in the corner of the room makes itself present as Connor readies a spell, then relaxes his guard as a tall cloaked figure walks up to him, handing him a rectangular box.

"Is this it? It is, isn't it?"

Connor opens the box and smiles beneath his thick mustache.

"Tell your master he has done this city a great service. Tell him that I will personally.."

Connor turns to look at the cloaked figure and this one is in the room no more.

It matters not. Soon, this city will be saved. And it will all be by my hand...

"A pleasure to meet you as well, Darren. I used magic, however, I did so within the confines of the temple, which is a private building, and therefore, was not in violation, since it was in a private area. Additionally, I imagine that there is permission to use magic in the area. The items were acquired while outside of the city, which, as I recall, is not regulated, as it is happening outside of the city bounds, since the city's power and responsibility end at the walls. Since there was no economic exchange within city bounds, they are legal. As for the so called attempt on Connor's life... The spell I used was not capable of such things. No matter who it was used on, and, I imagine that I could demonstrate that, if I were allowed out of these chains. If not, anyone who has knowledge of magic could verify that statement."

"Now, some other questions: Falsely accusing someone of a capitol crime, with the intent to get them executed would be a fairly major crime, correct? And what are the penalties of slander? And is he allowed to change the laws while I am being tried? Is there any way to get another judge? I believe that Connor is going to declare me guilty, regardless of the evidence, which makes getting either a higher power in here, or a different judge a necessity. After all, he has already falsely accused me of attempted murder. If we call Connor to testify, can the truth of his words be verified beyond any doubt? If Connor is testifying, he can't also fulfill the role of judge, so we would need another judge then, right? If I have had all of my items since before I entered the city, they would not need to be reported, right?"

Clover listens to Jace. "Father, I have never had a relationship with either of my parents, so these bonds are strange for me. I do hope there is a chance for redemption for the man, but it is not because he is my father."

Surprised by the news of her mother's visit, she looks at Jace. "Okay. Did he say why?"

2013-04-07, 02:43 AM
@Erethiel: Darren asks a guard to bring a table and a chair. Once the guard does so. He puts all the books on the table and opens them at various marked pages.

"Ok. You claim you used your magic within temple grounds. His Grace will counter that as invasion of private property and using illegal magic. In this case, enchantment. There is a church sanctioned permission for using magic at appointed places within the city. Mainly, the Royal Park, which houses the church of Ehlonna and the druid community, the centers of worship, such as the Pelorite Temple and this one, and Runestone Academy. Using magic outside of these places and without a royal decree, signed by His Grace, use of magic becomes illegal unless...."

Darren thinks for a second.

"...unless you were to declare yourself a cuthbertine. Be a member of the flock. It's a stretch, but if you convert, the penalty might be lessened."

regarding your goods.

"If we can produce proof that these goods were purchased outside of Halmathan, then yes. You would not be able to be affected. You would have to be fined and have all items properly registered."

Regarding Connor's attempt on his life by you, Darren looks at the books.

"A serious accusation, but if we can convince a spellcaster versed in the arcane to be present and give credence to what you claim, we could have a chance. The problem will be convincing his Grace to let you off those chains."

When you mention the chances of slander and Connor changing the laws on the fly, Darren goes pale,

"Accuse his Grace? My lady, that is preposterous! The Grand Inquisitor has a royal decree. It would be like accusing his majesty himself! I suppose it can be done, but that is not a case I would like to present against him. The Grand Inquisitor is ruthless. He will use every loophole to avoid being sent into trial. There is one who could act as judge- and quite effectively as well. Father Calchis, but he is now unavailable. The trick would be to have him accept to leave the judge chair and well, my lady. he is quite resilient to do that."

The door up high opens and Connor walks in with his clerics and takes the chair.

"Well, father Darren...do you have an opening statement? And who will give it?"

@Clover: Jace shuts his eyes once more at your request. he then opens them and looks very concerned.

"Connor's head."

"If using enchantment here is legal, then I should be fine. After all, I was here to observe a public trial, so no trespassing, unless he wants to charge every visitor to the church with it. I would prefer not to lie, and any declaration that I am a Cuthbertine would be rather frail, and that is a stretch. I simply don't even comprehend why anyone would, which would be a bit hard to get around."

Regarding Goods
"How long would I need to have owned them, in order for them to be exempt, and what does proper registration entail, and what sort of fines would be levied?"

Regarding the spellcaster
"Wouldn't any competent inquisitor be versed in such? If not, there was another witness, the fellow in the red robes, he could verify what spell I cast. As for getting me out of these chains, surely, we must be able to interview the accuser, to know what he knows, and what he says. Consequently, Connor can't preside over the trial, as there is no one that can actually say that I did anything wrong if he does, since the entire case relies on his word, he must give it in an official fashion, which he can't do as a judge. When he attempts to do so, can you object or something? And then get Father Calchis in? I believe I will be able to convince the others that this would be part of his perpetration."

Regarding accusing Connor
"I thought that the whole point of the church of cuthbert was that no one was above the law. If a high ranking official is above the law, then shouldn't this church oppose it? So long as I am declared innocent, I don't see how he can stop it going to trial, as there are no loopholes until the trial, and Calchis would need to wait until I was available, and I have business outside of the city to attend to."

"Incidentally, can he charge me with additional crimes, now that the trial has started? And if there is evidence of other crimes that is revealed, can he charge me with that once the trial is over?"

"Now, what do you think we should say in an opening statement? I think the key point is to say that I am innocent of the charges, while needling Connor for his blatant unfairness, and the general injustice of his behavior, which he can't respond to without admitting what it is."

AlanBruce
2013-04-07, 03:39 AM
@Erethiel: Darren looks through the bookmarked pages in the various books laid before him.

"Ok, my lady. According to what has been observed, you cast the spell outside the Cuthbertine Temple. If you have a document that gives you permission to do that, you should be exempted."

At the mention of why anyone would join the Cudgel, Darren raises an eyebrow.

"I am a Cuthbertine, my lady. I chose this path to help the city be a better place for all."

Regarding ownership of goods and fines levied, Darren looks at the books once more.

"There would be a tax possession fee, which charges a ten percent of the item's original price, plus a signed an d legal document by His Grace allowing said item to be worn and used in the city."

Regarding the red robes caster, Darren looks most intrigued.

"That wasn't mentioned to me. If we can have this gentleman summoned and provide a statement, then yes, it would help the case tremendously. If his Grace attempts to sway the trial against you...I will object and ask father Calchis to take the judge's seat. Easier said than done, though."

Regarding accusing Connor and the laws of Cuthbert, where no one is above the law, Darren frowns.

"Such is our dogma, yes. Nobody is above the Law. His Grace, for reasons I do not fully understand, has a decree that allows him to change them when it benefits the city most. He considers himself to be the city, so take that as you will."

"His Grace can raise charges if you give him reason to. Please watch your words, as he is very good at twisting words against those in trial."

As Connor sits on his chair, he looks down at both of you.

"Well, father Darren? Do you have an opening statement for the accused?"

Darren stands up and clears his throat. The young cleric is shaking as he takes a few steps towards the grand pulpit where Connor, like a god, sits on a throne crafted of twisted laws and rampant corruption.

"Your Most Exalted Grace. Grand Inquisitor Connor, I would like to direct your merciful gaze upon my client, Lady Erethiel. She has been a good law abiding citizen in Halmathan for over a year since she has been in our glorious city. It is the defense's opinion that Lady Erethiel acted without prior knowledge of many of the edicts that the church issues on a daily basis. A common misunderstanding, of course. Nobody is perfect. The defense believes that Lady Erethiel should be fined only for goods brought into the city without prior knowledge of the laws and have such registered. Thank you."

Connor looks at the frail Cuthbertine and leans forward like a hawk ready to strike.

"Is that all, father Darren? Does the accused have anything to add?"

Archmage1
2013-04-07, 08:15 AM
Regarding the spell
"Hm, I do not have such a document. However, aren't inquisitors immune to magics that affect their mind? Would that make a difference?"

Regarding Cuthbertines
"I mean no insult, it just makes no sense to me how you could believe that."

Regarding taxes
"10%? I don't begin to have that kind of money lying around. And Connor is hardly likely to give me such a piece of paper. If the tax charges 10% on all property, even if it is acquired outside the city, that is rather insane! No wonder no one wants to come here anymore. Every time they enter the city, they need to sell their equipment to pay the taxes on keeping it."

As for changing the laws
"So... So long as he is in power, there is no way to win the trial, as he will simply declare some new law, such as not having wings, or, perhaps, having 2 arms, and sentence me for that. Which leaves removing him from power as my only defense. Makes things much easier. And much more interesting. Are there any crimes a sitting judge can be arrested for? Abuse of office or something?"

Opening statement
"Certainly. Furthermore, since the items in question are for personal use only, and pose no threat to anyone who is not trying to kill me, there is no reason for such a fine to be levied. Unless, of course, the Grand Inquisitor feels that any such items are, in fact, a threat. Finally, since a lack of knowledge does not excuse breaking the law, I will show that any of these so called illegal acts were not malicious, and, indeed, were entirely reasonable attempts to try and help the city, which is the duty of any good citizen. I imagine that in the process, we will be demonstrating that the majority of the charges stem from nothing more that the personal hatred of the accuser, which has no bearing in a trial."

Just as Connor seems to be drawing air to speak once more, Erethiel continues.
"Now, I think it is time for the prosecutor to speak, isn't it? Where is he? We have a judge, jury, executioner, accuser, and witness sitting in the same chair. Aren't there supposed to be different people for those, in the interest of having a fair trial?"

So their is no way we can learn the captives identity...that is unfortunate to say the least...how long before you think the streets will be cleared to travel? I have a friend I wish to check in on.

As far as I can tell, I am unable to learn the identity of the assassin that was captured, I am going to head to Cassandra's, where I first met Lady Silver, perhaps they will know something of her current location.

Xander, apparently I was the assassin that was captured. I asked Connor to do some dancing, which is apparently an assassination attempt. I had no idea that his health was so poor. I am currently in a private trial, which I don't think is going to go very well, since there is no way that Connor can let me be called innocent, since that would result in me immediately charging him with slander, and lying to the law, with the intent of killing me.

@Erethiel: You listen to Darren's explanations regarding each point, finding all of Connor's laws ridiculous.

"Inquisitors are said to be immune to certain spells, yes. His Grace being particularly immune to many spells beyond that. Perhaps that is why his Majesty appointed him?"

Regarding taxation.

"I know, Lady Erethiel. As of late, taxes have skyrocketed for everyone, particularly non-citizens. It is His Grace's belief that the city needs to be made safe. Safety costs money. Hence the taxes."

Darren looks at his books.

"There is a way to appeal to his Grace's mercy- if you were to declare your guilt in public and be repentant of the crimes issued forth, while paying fealty to His Grace, there is a chance that he may be willing to show leniency. As to removal from his chair as judge, let me think on it. I'm sure I'll find something here."

Connor hears your opening statement and clutches his hands against the arms of his chair.

"Of course, there will be a prosecutor. Bring him in!"

One of the top doors opens and an Inquisitor walks in with a set of books under his arm. The man looks older than Darren and you, about Xander's age. In his thirties. Human. The man has black hair slicked back and a neat black beard, trimmed almost to a line. The man bows to you and Darren and then to Connor as he asks a guard to bring him a table and a chair.

"Your Holiness. It is an honor to have been called for this trial."

Connor looks at both of you.

"This is Father Dalpinian, one of our finest Inquisitors. He will be in charge of prosecution."

Darren looks nervous.

"He called Dalpinian? Oh boy..."

Darren gets very nervous.

"We can do this, my Lady. Don't worry."

@Xander: Anzaril replies.

Anything for you, Xander. The Woods have been fine. Your departure has been but a few days ago, darling. We girls can hold the fort, don't worry!

Sir Randolph observes the people outside.

"It would seem the siege is lifted, so leaving for you should be no problem. I am, as you know, caged, so I will have to stay in my Temple until either the snake is cut down or the King returns and states otherwise."

You find yourself in a carriage to Cassandra's, when Erethiel's message comes in loud and clear: She is the supposed assassin and is right now facing the Devil himself.

@Dantie: The guards look at each other.

"He is the champion appointed by His Grace, is he not? Very well, sir. You may come in. We should remind you, however, that this is a trial and that weapons are forbidden inside. If you would kindly leave your blade here."

Once you are allowed downstairs. A guard knocks on the door.

What? Who is it? Connor's voice sounds furious beyond the door.

"Uhhh..your Grace? It's the Champion? He wishes to come in and perform last rites!"

Silence goes in for a few seconds.

The Who? Open the door, you idiot, I cannot hear very well!

You are led into the Amphitheater and sure enough, there is Erethiel in chains and extremely hurt next to a table with a frail looking cuthbertine and a pile of books. An inquiistor stands a few feet away in a table of his own with a pile of books.

On the judge chair sits Connor who looks at you.

"Dantie Silva... what in the hells are you doing here?"

"Is casting a spell on someone who is immune to the effects a crime?"

Regarding taxation
"But the increased taxes bring no safety. A group of adventurers killed Cutter, not the guards, the guards are not investigating how he got back into the city, or even how the train was returned to an operational status, let alone dealing with any other threats. The increased taxes seem to be doing nothing, but lining the pockets of those in power."

Regarding mercy
"Mercy? From Connor? Yea... the man hates everything that I am. I will receive no mercy from him."

Regarding Dalpinian
"Is he some sort of super prosecutor? No matter. We will win, so think of how that will look on your resume!"

As the guard informs him about the rules on weapons Dantie looks to the man before handing him the blade. If this blade comes to any damage it is your head. I do not want it leaving your side at all you got that. Dantie says before going down to the door. As Connor asks Dantie not to polity at that what he is doing here he bows to him and to each Inquisitor in the room before answering. I have come to see the face of the person who would try to kill the law. As an inquisitor it perpelxs me why such people would be alive. And so I have come to ask to be able to go over the last rights and its final supper. Dantie says to Connor. That is if you find the thing guilty and allow me the honor that is. Dantie says trying to stroke Connors ego.

@Erethiel: Darren rubs his chin.

"Well, we could make the argument that, if you are immune to such a spell, casting it one someone, even if illegal to do so, could have lesser consequences, yes."

Regarding the taxes, Darren nods.

"Yes! I had heard that a group had dealt with that monster. I had not received particulars about it, however. As to why the taxes? His Grace says he wishes to raise a well armed expedition to bring the King back."

regarding mercy from Connor, Darren goes grim.

"A bad suggestion on my behalf, but there is one more thing we can plead if all goes south. Just a consideration- insanity. We will leave that card hidden until the time comes."

@Dantie: The guard takes your blade and stands at attention as you warn him about what would happen were it to be lost.

"Of course, sir. I mean, it will be safe, sir!"

Once inside, Connor listens to you and leans back in his chair.

"I was under the impression you and Xander Corillian were getting ready for the special task I had assigned you to. I am surprised you, as an Inquisitor, you such compassion to this creature. Last rites and a last supper?"

Connor chokes as he tries to laugh, but fails miserably.

"Of course. Now just watch the proceedings, I am certain they will be short."

@The Party: Dalpinian steps forward.

"Most High Exalted Inquisitor Connor! Today, the City of Halmathan will prove that the defendant chained in this room, Erethiel Faelandariel, has broken several laws that endanger the well being of the fair folk of Halmathan. This court will show that the defendant has blatantly and under full knowledge, broken clear laws regarding the use of arcane magic. Furthermore, this court will expose the heinous attempts behind such a twisted mind to try and manipulate this city's finest citizen- His Grace himself. I ask everyone present to please bear in mind that we are dealing with an innate magic user. Having said that, I wish to extend my greetings to father Darren, who I believe is on his very first case in trial."

Dalpinian smiles and takes a seat.

Connor looks at you and and smiles beneath his thick grey mustache.

"Very well, Father Darren. Any witnesses you wish to call?"

@Clover: Highfather Jace looks at you and is about to say something, when Alessia rushes in a hurry. Catching her breath she looks at him.

"High Father! Merchant District! The Huntsman's Guild is in trouble!"

High Father gets up from his chair.

"What happened, Alessia?"

The young priestess steadies herself and looks at both of you.

"Black Eye. They brought Black Eye apparently sedated, but the creature has broken loose!"

Jace looks at you.

"You were saying, Clover?"

@Erethiel: Darren gets up.

"Objection!"

Connor and Dalpinian look at him.

"Sustained, go on."

Darren clears his throat.

"With all due respect to Father Dalpinian, the charges raises against my client are with assassination, not use of magic. Also, there is one witness I would like to call- my client can verify he was there. A man in red robes."

Connor raises an eyebrow at this mention.

"Is that so? Have the scribe change what Father Dalpinian mentioned, but still include the charges for illegal use of magic. As to this red robed man...where is he? Who saw him? Does he have a name?"

Archmage1

"Of course he can add whatever charges he wants to, which is a little unfair."

"Isn't the court record meant to be a record of what was said, not whatever the judge wants?"

As for the red-robed man, he was on the roof behind me. He wore red, and I figured that he served you, being a possible cleric and all. He cast two spells, a quickened petrification spell, and an anti magic ray. Surely there are not many in the city who meet this requirement. I asked him for his name, but he declined to tell me. Otherwise, the only witness to this assassination attempt was Connor, who, as the judge, probably can't testify. Which leads to... what evidence do you actually have that any of this happened? Your star witness, after all, is a judge, and is actively judging the trial, making him unable to act as a witness as well."

Well, I was entertaining some of the city guards. They looked rather remarkably like they could use a good party, so I gave them one, and the Connor came out, complaining that it was an illusion, so I tried to get him to join in on the party. Sadly, he resisted the spell, but was not immune, which is odd, seeing as he is supposed to be an inquisitor. He also absorbed it, which was unexpected. If my citizenship was in doubt, then Cassandra might have been helpful, and she could testify that I had had my equipment before any rules regulating it came into effect, which could be fun. So why not see if she would be willing to come and speak? We may need her, and this could become very interesting indeed. I don't imagine that Connor would approve of my line of work, after all.

I fear you are not taking this matter seriously enough, Let my tell you about the last trial I saw Connor perform, you may remember my companion Tarith, he was accused of theft, and Connor took the trial all the way to the gallows, Tarith had a noose around his neck, and would have died had the cities ruler not interceded...in this case the absent king is the only one capable of saving you from Connors wrath.

Dantie bows as he enters the room and listens to what Connor has to say. Most of my spells are depleted for the day, and the few I have I will be using to gain insight on the creature that seemed to steal all of my magic that I have mentioned was depleted. Dantie says kindly to him. It was one of the reasons I came to find out if speaking with the servants was ok by you so I could further my investigation. It just so happened I heard the assassin was caught and I wanted to see it for myself. I did not expect a fey though. I am a bit shocked. Dantie says before going to take a seat. I do hope I find out how this fey tried to kill you, as it could happen to any of the heads of church and they should take the proper procedures. And last rights and such are given to all. It is the will of the gods Connor and not mine to question. I shall be quite now so the trial can go on. Dantie says bowing once more and taking his seat.

As the case is going on Dantie sends to Erethiel, I see you have meet Connor and his ways. Pray do tell me why you would be so foolish? And what your blast meal you would like to have as well as rights encase you are found guilty. Testing to see if the line is secure.

She lists out the contents of a fairly epic salad. Some of the ingredients are rare, and rather hard to acquire
And, as for my last drink, I would like a bottle of Moonstar wine, to be appreciated fully

@Dantie: You explain to Connor that you wish to find insight into what sort of creature could've weakened you so.

"I believe communing with your deities was specified by me earlier, Dantie Silva. You may do so in the safety of your own temple. As for the fey here, are you that surprised? Her kind is built around malice, disguised as child's play. More so, her so called antics were directed towards the Head of the Church of the Cudgel and Leader of the City of Halmathan. I am sure you udnerstand what this entails..."

Connor leans back on his chair.

"I doubt last rites and a meal will be necessary once this trial is over, Dantie Silva...."

@Xander: Hurrying the coachman, you reach Cassandra's place.

Being daytime, it is low on clients. The large bouncer, Marco, greets you at the door.

"You're the one who came here the other night, looking for a meeting with Silver Dreams. sad to say, she has left the building."

@Erethiel: Pointing out the futility of this case, as there are no witnesses, Connor leans over the pulpit and stares you down with hate filled eyes.

"As usual, your kind tries to twist around the truth. You claim you know how the Law works, but you are gravely mistaken, Erethiel."

Connor stands up from his judge chair to address all present, which aren't many.

"By royal decree, signed by His Majesty King Airdan, I Grand Inquisitor Connor of the Cudgel, may decide to impart swift trial, acting as active witness and judge for this proceeding. So, I ask to be cross examined immediately. I have wasted too long a time with this...elf. And I have far more important matters to attend."

Darren looks at you.

"Well, Lady Erethiel, what should we question him on. This may be our only chance."

"First, of course, we need to verify that his paperwork is in order, don't we? After all, my citizenship papers are being examined, and that would be a rather odd declaration by Airdan, seeing as it presupposes that Connor was the witness to a crime, and is choosing to judge for this specific proceeding. Oddly enough, hasn't Airden been missing? How would Connor have acquired a specific document from him, for current events? Does he have the king in his pocket or something? Additionally, I do believe that he would need to actually produce a document, not simply state that it exists. I could claim that I have a royal decree, signed by King Airdan, that says that Connor is a rather smelly toad. That does not make it the truth. Furthermore, while the document in question is being exhaustively examined by the agents of Olidammara, they being the foremost experts in forgery, I would argue that Connor can't be both witness and judge."

Erethiel smiles sweetly at Connor
"After all, the goal of any trial is to find the truth, is it not? It would be a risk to allow this impossible document to destroy the validity of this trial, would it not?"

Connor's face is a deep crimson and its color does not recede.

"Your Grace! Are you alright? Your blood pressure, your holiness..." One of the clerics walks up to him.

"I am FINE! She, however, won't be..."

Connor gets up and takes a piece of paper and begins reading it.

"Erethiel Faelandarierl, for the charges of using magic illegaly within the city. This court finds you guilty."

"Erethiel Faelandarierl, for the charges of using magic illegaly to bring harm within the city. This court finds you guilty."

"Erethiel Faelandarierl, for the charges of using items of power not recognized by the city, this court finds you guilty."

"Erethiel Faelandarierl, for the charges of slander against a public official, this court finds you guilty."

Father Delpinian shrugs and picks up his books.

The guards, terrified by Connor's outburst, move in to carry you as one retrieves a key to unlock the chains binding you to your feet.

Besides, it is not I that makes a mockery of this courtroom, it is Connor. After all, a temper tantrum is not appropriate in a judge under any circumstances."

@Erethiel: As the guards approach you, ready to take you away to St. Noria's prison, a door opens above, on teh second level and an elderly man walks in adjusting his glasses.

"What is all this ruckus?"

The guards stand at attention as well as Father Delpinian and Father Darren.

Connor turns around and clenches his hand around the judge chair.

"Father Calchis... I thought you were preparing for your expedition."

The elderly Inquisitor walks down towards you and looks at you covered in chains, then looks up to Connor.

"I was supposed to, yes. However, the howls of a madman brought me down here. I wonder who it was?"

The guards lower their faces, trying to conceal laughter as Delpinian puts his books back on the desk.

Father darren bows to the venerable Inquisitor.

"Father Calchis, we were in the middle of a trial which his Grace has decide to end prematurely. I asked for an appeal, but His Holiness, with all due respect, has declined so. My client was getting ready to be taken to St. Noria's."

Father Calchis looks up at Connor and adjusts his glasses.

"Your Grace, do you mind if I am briefed into this case?"

Connor looks at the elder cleric. Although his power in Halmathan was absolute, he did know Calchis was a favored amongst Cuthbertines.

I am afraid that I must reaffirm my request to have the royal decree stating that Connor may act as judge and witness in this specific trial verified, as it is patently impossible, since the king is missing. Which means, that either Connor steps down as the judge, or I am innocent, due to there being no witnesses, and no evidence."

"Lady Erethiel, please wait for the questions to be asked. Now, Connor- did this happen at night?"

Connor looks at you and then at Calchis.

Calchis takes some notes.

"I see... and what did Lady Erethiel do on that rooftop?"

Erethiel stated that she had a cast a spell, not a suggestion spell. No specifics.

"Now, that is an interesting statement. Why, I distinctly never stated that. What I said is that I cast a spell. Not the same thing. Now, there is a fairly simply way to resolve this, really. If I spoke the truth, then it is not slander, now is it? Is Connor constrained to speak the truth only?"

If so

"Connor, are you trained in the arts of a spellthief?"

If not

"Then is it possible that he might be? I would prefer that there be no doubt of the truth of his words. I could do so, if he declines to resist the spell, if no one else here can."

If he lies

"Now, isn't that interesting. I would state that he is, and I can do so under any truth magic you choose. Which leaves a situation in which one of us is lying under truth magic. I can use magic of a different sort to force the truth from Connor, if you allow me to do so, and if he chooses not to resist my spell."

Dantie looks to Farther Calais. What she says is true. I have been in this courtroom since almost the beginning and not a word of what spell has been stated thus far, though a man in a red cloak was spotted and witness from what the defendant has said. Dantie says to the judge before looking to the scribe. I hope there are no more mistakes my friend or you may be out of a job.

@Erethiel: Calchis looks at you, then at Connor.

"Lady Erethiel, we are here gathered to discuss the matters at hand, which are the charges raised against you. Whether his Grace is in fact, a spellthief or not is not the issue here. I would kindly ask you to answer my first set of questions before we can continue. Although, it has been established that the spell was not identified, it has been stated as an enchantment. Did you use an enchantment spell on His Grace? I would really like to end this trial as quickly as possible, so please answer the question."

"I was attempting to deny the slander charge, as stating the truth about someone is never slander. Consequentially, establishing that Connor is a spellthief is relevant, since that removes the slander charge. However, Since you would rather focus on the misuse of magic charge, I can do that. I used magic to ask Connor to participate in a party I was trying to start. Surely there is nothing wrong with that? After all, everyone needs to relax every now and then."

@Erethiel: Calchis takes some notes.

"See? If we proceed in an orderly manner, we can finish this much quicker. So Lady Erethiel admits to having used magic on His Grace. An enchantment spell."

Connor looks at you from the side, raising an eyebrow in utter contempt, but in silence.

"Now, on to my next question. Are you in possession of items of power that were not registered by the church?"

Calchis asks a guard to bring him the box with your gear in it.

@Xander: Marco smiles with his healthy lack of teeth.

"Mistress Cassandra will see you. Come in."

You are lead inside the building where the Condemned sign has been removed, replacing it with a painting of a nude woman holding a parasol.

An elderly half elf maiden, garbed in red with a prodigious bosom and long white hair approaches you. The woman is fully adorned in jewels and carries a rose wrath around her head.

"Marco says you want to see me, dahling? I am sorry. I don't do jobs anymore. I run the place."

@Dantie: Father Calchis and Connor turn to look at you as the scribe keeps taking notes.

"Thank you for clearing that out, father Silva. We will take that into consideration... Incidentally, Lady Erethiel, what enchantment spell did you use on His Grace?"

@Clover: You descend a prudent distance from the ground as the half orc stand at attention.

Thank you.
Xander follows Marco through the building to Cassandra, once he meets her, Xander bows to half elf before speaking.
Thank you for seeing me, rest assured if a mere job was all I needed I would not have though to disturb you, unfortunately I have more dire buisness, it seems one of your former employees has gotten herself into some trouble, and I am hoping you may be able to be of some use. Would you like to speak on the matter here, or move to someplace more private? Also, I noticed the condemned sign that was hanging on the wall a few days back has been replaced with a much more appealing sign, how did you convince Connor to lift the condemned status of this place?
If Cassandra wants to speak in private, Xander follows her and waits until she it prepared before telling her of Erethiel's plight, if not Xander begins telling her right away.

(What Xander says to Cassandra either now, or once in private.)
You have herd of the recent assassination attempt on Connor have you not? It seems the supposed assassin was no other than Lady Silver, and the assassination attempt was a much lesser spell, with her intent to simply have some fun with Connor, a poor idea in my opinion, as her prank has now landed her in chains, in a private trial by Connor himself, who it seems has trumped up the charges some...I fear her games may land her in St. Noria...or worse...can you be of any assistance in the matter?

@Xander: Cassandra invites you to her personal office.

This room is lavishly decorated in sickening amounts of pink. Portraits with ultra elaborate golden frames depict women with little or no underwear and a small stuette of a gentleman looking up the painting has been cleverly placed on top of a dresser.

Cassandra invites you to take a seat on a lounge chair that seems to swallow you and smother you in perfume.

"You mean the condemned sign? Oh, dahling. I get condemned all the time! The sign is behind the painting. Connor would like nothing more than to shut down my establishment, but he forgets- a soldier needs to sheathe his sword after a hard day's work."

As you mention what has happened to erethiel, cassandra gasps.

"My little Silver Dream! My prized Rose of Virtue! She was my best earner, you know? A hundred satisfied customers. Not a single lace untied. A genius, really. I love her. And now, that bastard has her in chains?"

Cassandra gets up and adjusts her corset.

"Marco! Call the girls! We're marching to Temple District!"

Cassandra looks at you and winks.

"Care to join us?"

@Erethiel: Father Calchis takes some notes and looks at Father darren and Delpinian.

"Let it be on record that Lady Erethiel did indeed use suggestion magic on His Grace."

Connor leans back, arms crossed and smiles beneath his thick grey mustache.

"Now. Regarding possession of items of power not recognized legally by the church Lady erethiel. Would you mind telling us what each does?"

Calchis motions a guard to place the items on the table where Father Darren sits.

"One by one, please. And be as specific as you can."

"Since these items were all acquired from outside the city, and I have had them since I entered the city, was I supposed to get them registered or something? I must admit, I am a little fuzzy on the rules for this."

As for the items
"The silver band is a memory circlet. It helps me to remember things, by well, basically making my brain work better. The belt pouch, and the other two bags are all extradimensional, so I can actually carry things around, rather than needing to ask someone to help me with them. The ruby necklace improves my health, making me more resistant to diseases. The robes offer many defensive advantages, not to mention looking stylish. The chain shirt, well, it is a chain shirt. The potions are some healing and counter poison potions, occasionally useful. The wand is of fireball. The dragonflies and faerie are keys, the ring improves the potency of my magic, and the amethyst enhances my innate abilities to a limited extent. I don't think I really need to explain the various clothing items in there, do I?"

AlanBruce
2013-04-08, 07:44 PM
@Erethiel: Calchis blushes as you mention the need to exoplain your more private contents.

Connor looks at the items displayed.

"An interesting set of keys..."

Calchis looks at him.

"Indeed they are, your Grace. However, please allow me question the defendant."

Calchis listens to the explanation for every item.

"Lady Erethiel. What items you describe here are most interesting. And very expensive too. Improving one's insight is, as far as I'm concerned, a harm to nobody. The same can be argued regarding improving one's health. Healing thyself is a matter of emergency. Accidents at home, like a cut or a fall from a ladder fixing a window. saw that happen the other day, actually. I believe everyone should carry potions to be able to heal themselves in case emergencies like these were to happen. The chain shirt is, as you stated, a piece or armor. You are an adventurer of some sort? I do like the robes, however. Very stylish. Those are similar to the ones worn by Archmage Crowell..."

Calchis then observes the wand.

"That is an evocation spell. The fireball. That is an item that can, in the worng hands, cause many casualties."

Calchis takes notes, then adjusts his glasses as he looks at you.

"According to what we have here, Lady Erethiel. You have been a citizen in Halmathan for a little over a year? If that is the case, you should be aware of the law that specifically states that any and all items of power should come under registration by Cuthbertine Law. Precisely to determine if some items- like the wand, could be a hazard to the city."

NathanB1486
2013-04-08, 07:48 PM

@Xander: Cassandra smiles as a group of women dressed in their sunday's best line up in the main lobby of the Bordello.

"When Silver Dream came to me, I had some papers...registered. Officially, she is under my care. And before that freak zealot Connor came in, the King himself gave me a Union Document, which I so happen to carry right here."

Cassandra produces the document from beneath her cleavage, rolled as a scroll and with a clear royal sigh.

"I can make the argument that she is my laborer and has the documentation to prove it. As for the march the other day, well..."

Cassandra smiles.

"I am certain many of the high ranking officers in there would not like the city to know what they do when they aren't baptizing babies."

Sadly, as for the wand, well, I was hoping that I might be able to figure out how to use it, but I failed to do so. It, well, it does not mesh well with what magic I have. On the other hand, it does make for a great bluff. Is the possession of a useless item illegal?"

Erethiel looks a bit downcast at this revelation that she has no real defense.

Erethiel actually can't use the wand now, sadly, since fireball is not on her spell list, and she has no ranks in UMD.

@Erethiel: Calchis listens to your observations on the items.

Connor clenches his hands on his seat, biting his lip to the point where, any moment now, it will explode in poison blood.

"I am afraid, Lady Erethiel, that not having registered the items beforehand, does make you guilty of sich a charge. However, since you claim you were unaware of the laws as written, in the charge against illegal possession, I will let you go off with a warning, provided every single item is registered before the day is done. As for the wand, the church will pass delibertaion on whether you may carry it with you in the city."

"Well. I believe we have one last charge to look into..."

Calchis lets out a deep sigh.

"Slander."

@Erethiel: Calchis looks at his notes.

"I see. There is a charge for attempted assassination. Against his Grace, no less. Care to tell us what happened? As for the charges of slander, Lady Erethiel. As I stated earlier during this tribunal, you have the right to say what is on your mind. Those who are the target of such points of views and observations- whether true or not, are not going to necesarilly take it in an agreeable way. For instance. And this being purely hypothetical to illustrate my point, I could say His Grace is a Fraud..."

Connor turns to look at Calchis with pure vengeance.

"And that would be my opinion on what the truth is. However, just because I believe it to be so, does not mean that the intended target of such a point of view believes likewise. You called him a Thief of Magic. I am aware that there are those who carry a career by that title, but just because they are or do it, doesn't mean that many will enjoy it. And in many cases, it is considered an intrusion and belittlement. This carries a legal weight, since the offended party can choose to raise charges for slander and public humilliation. Unless of course, His Grace wishes to cancel said charges..."

"I do not."

Archmage1
2013-04-08, 08:46 PM
"Might I ask: What exactly is so insulting about being called a Thief of Magic? It is an accurate statement, after he stole my magic, which is a rather excellent trick, I might add. Perhaps he could teach me to do so? No? Worth a shot, I suppose. It is a pity that one can't simply speak the truth. Say... Since the only ones present were Connor, and the guards, who else heard it? I am sure that the guards will keep quiet about it."

"As for assassination, can I know what the penalties for such are?"

Xander follows Cassandra and her girls.

2013-04-08, 10:20 PM
@Erethiel: Calchis hears your points and takes down some notes.

"Whether His Grace can or cannot be a thief of magic, is not the issue here, lady Erethiel. It is the way in which someone is addressed. I spoke of this virtue earlier- Respect. In this city, being called names- even if they are titles worthy of them, can subject the person giving the title to a charge of slander if the recipient chooses to press charges. As to guards being present to hear this, we will have them brought in to present their statement."

Calchis looks at you as he clears his glasses and then puts them back on.

"The penalty for assassination, Lady Erethiel, is death."

@Xander: The streets are lined up with a group of thrity beautiful ladies of different races. Mostly half elves, humans, a few gnomes, and a half orc. Cassandra leads the colorful march as the more reputable women in Halmathan stand by the pavement shocked.

"It's that trollop in broad daylight!"

"That succubus in pink!"

How dare she walk around with her wolves in our fair streets?"

Cassandra says out loud to her girls.

"Do not mind the frigid mummies, ladies! I'm sure a cleric will come and turn them! HA!"

You march with the less morally inclined down the streets of the city of Power until you reach the imposing Temple of the Cudgel.

A few guards walk up to you and Cassandra.

"Ma'am. What is this? Sir! Do you have anything to say regarding this manifestation?"

@Clover: You fly off after helping dela with Blackeye and then spot something curious down below:

It's Xander. And he's walking with a lot of ladies. Who knew the magus had such charm?

"Well then, I have a rather simple question for Connor: How was I going to assassinate him? After all, he clearly recognized the spell that I cast, and in order to recognize it, he would need to know what it does. That spell is incapable of causing physical harm."

Whispered to Darren
"What makes attempted murder different from Assassination?"

NathanB1486
2013-04-08, 10:29 PM
I suppose it would be appropriate for me to explain. Once I learned of this apparent assassination attempt, I went in search of the supposed assassins identify, and possible reasoning behind such an attack. My search lead me to this fine lady here, whom informs me that the woman being held at the moment is under her legal care, complete with papers given by the King himself, before his unfortunate departure of course. I felt since it was a legal matter, I should bring those legally responsible for the woman on trial, to her trial.
Xander motions to Cassandra as he mentions her.

Going to bed.

AlanBruce
2013-04-08, 10:47 PM
@Erethiel: Connor leans forward on his chair as you address the question to him.

"I was fortunate that the blessings of St. Cuthbert himself shielded my mind from an attack that could've had terrible consequences had it gone through. It is true that... such a spell placed by the accused on me may have not had grievous consequences, but as it stands with mind controlling magic, one cannot ever be too sure. Hence their restriction to specific centers."

A knock is heard on the door.

"Yes?"

A guard comes in.

"Sir! There are three witnesses that were present at His Grace's crime scene. Shall I let them in?"

Calchis straightens his glasses.

"Let them in."

The two guards you had charmed earlier walk in, followed by the public servant who still carries his rake.

"Please hand your weapons to the guard, gentlemen."

The guards hand their swords and the public servant looks at those gathered and shrugs, handing over his rake.

"It has been stated that the three of you were witnesses to what happened earlier in the steps of the Temple. Is that true?"

All three reply.

"Yes, sir!"

"Guards. Do you mind telling me what happened?"

"Well, your Grace. We were guarding the temple entrance when that lady showed up on the roof of a building, calling His Grace a name."

Calchis writes down the information.

"And what did she call him?"

"A thief of magic, sir."

Calchis then looks at the public servant.

"Your name, please?"

"I'm Yolvan, sir. I have cleaned the steps of this temple for fifteen years."

Calchis smiles.

"yes, of course, Yolvan. I remember you. Can you tell this court what is it you saw?"

Yolvan looks nervous as he eyes the entire room. He had been cleaning the steps to the temple for over a decade, but never once had he been inside.

"Well, your Graciousness, I was raking the leaves when these two fine guards began dancing with each other. Bonking their bodies against each other more like it. They were, with all due respect, acting quite ridiculous."

Calchis writes down more notes.

"Very well, Yolvan. Anything else?"

Yolvan looks at Connor and trembles.

"Uhhh...well. Then this pretty lady popped up in the building rooftop and called His Grace by a name."

Calchis keeps writing.

"And what was that name, Yolvan?"

Yolvan looks at you, then at Connor who looks at him like a hawk.

"A thief of magic, sir"

Darren listens to your inquiries and whispers back.

"Attempted murder would be if you premeditated and tried to kill someone. Assassination would be actually committing the act successfully."

The woman behind her start raising their voices. Each one competing to see who can yell louder.

The guards take a few steps back.

"L...Ladies, please. His Grace is very busy now! If you could kindly issue an appointment..."

The women walk towards the guards. None of them carry weapons, and it would seem, that for all their armor and sharp blades, these guards have lost a fight they never could win.

Clover listens to Xander's explanation as she flies above. Everybody gathered in the Cuthbertian church once again... Clover felt she couldn't seriously contribute to the affairs going on with Erethiel.

"If I can somehow help, let me know." She mentally told Xander, before taking flight high up and towards the Cutherbtian temple.

AlanBruce
2013-04-09, 02:55 AM
@Clover: watching the parade at Cuthbert's Gate, you decide to fly at a cautionary distance from the temple of Justice. Blackeye was gone and easily defeated. If that was Alubastac's progeny, then killing Alubastac himself would be an extremely easy feat for you alone.

You land, invisible on a rooftop and watch Xander below with Halmathan's finest ladies in waiting arguing with some guards to get in.

It would seem his Grace has drawn much attention today. First priests. Then an assassin. And now the city harlots. What's next...Cuthbert himself?

You turn around and, leaning against a tall chimney stack, you spot a man in armor and red cloak and hood.

This man...you have seen this man before, but where? And why do you get a bad feeling about him?

Sliver
2013-04-09, 03:20 AM
Keeping her distance, Clover watched the armored man, studying him with her Arcane Sight as well.

Detecting all his auras and their strengths, and knowing their schools of magic of anything non-epic... Would be nice to know if there is some epic auras up there, too. :smalltongue:

Besides that, also concentrating on him.

If you concentrate on a specific creature within 120 feet of you as a standard action, you can determine whether it has any spellcasting or spell-like abilities, whether these are arcane or divine (spell-like abilities register as arcane), and the strength of the most powerful spell or spell-like ability the creature currently has available for use.

AlanBruce
2013-04-09, 03:28 AM
@Clover: The mere sight of this man has your body trembling. But why? Then your massive divination powers reveal why.

This man has tremendous arcane and divine power surging through him. You cannot sense anything innate, such as your powers, but he does radiate a hostile aura, despite him leaning against the chimney stalk casually.

"Caught your attention, little one? I know you don't want a fight up here, or anywhere else, for that matter. Besides, you wouldn't want to endanger all those hapless women down there, would you?"

He could see her, or at least feel her. For all she knew, her scarf was the only thing that would block sight of her tattoo, and possibly, her identity. "No, I would rather we avoid unnecessary conflict. I'm here just to observe and enjoy this eventful day. What about you?"

AlanBruce
2013-04-09, 03:39 AM
@Clover: The man straightens itself and walks to the edge of the roof, looking down at Cassandra's girls and Xander.

"A lovely day, indeed. The weather is fine. The people below are busy about. It is indeed a good day. We can only hope more are to come, no?"

The wind blows his cloak to the side and you can see he wears a ruby mask. Beneath it, deep piercing black eyes.

"Tell me...what is your opinion of this city?"

Sliver
2013-04-09, 03:46 AM
Clover breathes in the chilly air. "It has a lot of potential. But to be honest, it lacks guidance, in my opinion. A city so large can't help but be very diverse. But instead of improving through sharing, certain powerful groups would rather achieve order through unity and restrictions. Some chaos is good, it keeps you on your toes and encourages change and growth while a city of mindless automatons rots. Now your turn, be honest."

AlanBruce
2013-04-09, 03:57 AM
@Clover: The cloaked man chuckles.

"Potential unlike any I have seen, little one. As for guidance, I must concur. This city is quite disorganized. But soon, I have a feeling Halmathan will be truly unified. It will be saved, finally. Who knows, perhaps that is what this city needs: A savior."

Sliver
2013-04-09, 04:02 AM

AlanBruce
2013-04-09, 04:55 AM
@Clover: The man in the red cloak and hood stands on the edge of the roof and the wind carries his cloak forward.

"You can see The park from here. Can you see it? Even the Marina. Halmathan is a city rife with opportunity and untapped potential, little one. As for the who the savior is? Well, one could philosophically argue that it is the city itself."

You maintain focus on the man a few feet away from you.

His is a strong aura. This man probably has access to spells not even Xander would be able to cast. As for his choice of cloak. And this being a far stretch, since no holy symbol can be observed.

It is a color usually associated with the church of Hextor.

Powerful divine magic, red coloration often associated with Hextor... Xander, I might be standing by Kannis here...

"Mr. Connor, I believe I asked you to answer a question, not make political statements pursuing your irrational hatred of magic. How exactly was I going to use a spell that could not hurt you to kill you? That makes a charge of assassination rather difficult, don't you think? For an assassination charge, there needs to be three things. First, a reason. Unfortunately, everyone in the city has a reason to want Connor out of office. After all, after only a week in office, he has more or less ruined the city. People are afraid to walk the streets, strange creatures are seen, people vanish, the guard terrify small children, and the king has vanished. Since the leadership is responsible for such things, it stands to reason that any good citizen of Halmathan would prefer a competent leader. Second, I need to have actually killed someone. Mr. Connor is rather alive, is he not? Third, I would have needed to plan things out a head of time. Do you really think I am organized enough to have done that?"

"Now, the witnesses. Yolvan, would you say that the title, thief of magic, is an insult, or a compliment?"

"Now, as to what you saw, Did you see any evidence at all that I was trying to kill Connor?"

Dantie listens to the story Rosalind is telling him and a small smile appears on his face. Thank Pelor they made it there safe. He sends through the link before getting a curious face on his. You sounded like a robot dear.

Just then he hears Clover and her warning and looks up to the judge. Farther Calsis I hate to interrupt but it seems you may want to send a squadron of guards to the roof. One of my agents has found the man in the red clock, and he has very powerful magic radiating off of him, including some Connor himself has made illegal. Never mind from what this young lady has said he also tried to turn her flesh to stone. Dantie says to his honor.

As Xander waits for the women from Cassandra's and the guards to finish arguing, he receives Clovers mental message, drawing his eyes to the roof.
Kannis? And you are both on the roof above us? He does not seem to know we are associated does he? Whatever you do, do not provoke him, I need to get this crowd out of the streets quickly before something may happen.
Xander looks to the guards.
I don't mean to rush, but is there an area we may wait inside until the High Inquisitor has been notified?

@Clover: The man in red looks down at the mob in the temple gates and then at you, through his ruby mask.

"My goal? What everyone wants, little one - Unity."

The man in red looks at the crowd below and then at you.

"Who knows, one day, you might be able to bring this about. Good bye."

The man glows in a purple aura and vanishes from sight completely.

Teleport

@Erethiel: Connor looks at you with a raised eyebrow as he raps his fingers on the chair.

"It is true that the spell in particular may have not had heinous after effects. But it would have been a matter of time before someone, such as yourself perhaps, may have used a spell of a similar nature to induce a suicidal idea into the minds of the good people of this city. As to your comments regarding my competence as leader of this city, I advice caution: I am still the leading ruler of this city appointed by Royal Decree. You are still accused of several charges. watch your tongue."

You turn to elderly Yolvan.

"Well...uhhh... I would like that title myself! No offense to his Highness, of course."

Calchis looks at Yolvan.

"He is not king, Yolvan. His title is his Grace."

Calchis writes down a few more notes.

"Thank you, you three. You are excused."

Calchis looks at you.

Lady Erethiel. I am ready to pass out sentence. Do you have any closing statements you would like to make?"

@Xander: "Let us through. NOW!"

The mob of courtesans pushes through the main gates and drag you along for the ride.

Cassandra stomps with her girls through the hallowed halls of the Cuthbertine temple as they stop at the giant painting of Connor.

"Compensating for something, no doubt."

The girls giggle as they march towards the steps leading down to the Amphitheater of Truth.

@Dantie: Rosalind continues.

It was weird, right? It may have been a pie I had at the fey Covens. I will contact you as soon as I'm with Silas and Wilhelm. I hope all is good over there? You aren't getting into any trouble?

Just then, you get the mental link that a man, who may be Kannis, is right on the rooftop of the Temple. As sush, you interrupt the trial as soon as Calchis is about to pass sentence. Connor hears your statement and raises an eyebrow as he leans back.

Calchis, adjusts his glasses and looks at you.

"A man in red robes? And on top of the Cuthbertine Temple? Why can't any of these trials go quick? This trial is adjourned while this mystery man in red is brought down here. Guards, please send a squad to the temple's roof to investigate and bring this man here."

Connor turns his gaze at you.

"Dantie Silva. You seem to be quite versed in knowing things people in this hallowed courtroom do not. And you have agents about. How is that?"

Xander quickly apologizes to the guards, as he is drug along with the courtesans.

@Xander: Cassandra turns to you and produces the royal decree.

"My dear, with this little paper written and signed by his Majesty's own hand, I can storm here and represent my girls whenever I want."

You reach the doors to the Amphitheater of Truth and Cassandra knocks on the door.

"Your Grace! Open up! You have one of my girls in there and she will be represented thusly!"

@The Party except Clover: As news of a man in red robes is announced and Calchis dispatches guards to check the roof of the temple. The door opens and in comes Xander and a group of thirty females. All of different races and wearing very fine- if revealing outfits. The matron in front, an elderly half elf maiden dressed in pink and with a very large bosom comes in and stops as she sees Erethiel in chains.

"Babe! Why are you like that? Shame on you, Connor!"

Calchis stands up.

"What is the meaning of this? Is that you, Cassandra?"

Connor stands up as well.

"This is a private trial! How dare you march in here with your...workers? And Xander Corillian, of course. Why am I not surprised that you would be in this as well..."

Connor looks at Dantie, then at Erethiel, and finally at Xander.

"How very convenient..."

Xander bows to the judges before he begins speaking.
I apologize for the intrusion, and this is most likely more of a display than was necessary, but I am hardly foolish enough to stand in the way of woman such as these. I will however explain our presence here just as I told the guards at the entrance.
Once I learned of this apparent assassination attempt on the high inquisitor, I went in search of the supposed assassins identify, and possible reasoning behind such an attack, to ensure the city was safe, and did not have a den of assassin hiding within. My search lead me to Cassandra, Lady Silver's employer, whom informs me that the woman being held at the moment is under her legal care, she even has with her papers given and signed by the King himself, before his unfortunate departure of course. I felt since it was a legal matter, I should bring those legally responsible for the woman on trial, to her trial. Am I not simply ensuring Halmathan's laws are being upheld properly?

As Connor attempts to say that she could have done something
"Mr. Connor, I believe I already asked you to stop making political statements at a trial. This is neither the time, nor the plane. The charge was attempted assassination. Not causing flights of fancy and paranoia. Not threatening the city. Assassination. We must deal with facts, not what you think should be the truth, but the actual truth."

Closing Statement
"Believe that I do have a statement. Now, Slander is a serious offense, however, if the listeners believe it to be a compliment, how can it harm the reputation of the one who claims to be slandered? Since Connor's precious reputation was not harmed, but improved, there was no slander done."
Erethiel smiles somewhat impishly
"Now, if he wants me to continue to improve his reputation, I would need to ask for some form of payment."
Sadly, she must continue in a more serious tone
"Now, The second charge, that of having unlicensed magical items has been addressed, and I believe I can get someone to fill out the paperwork fairly quickly, so long as the cost is not excessive."
"The third charge, that of unlawfully casting an enchantment spell, I think has been established fairly well that I did indeed cast an enchantment spell. However, I did not do so out of maliciousness, but out of a desire for everyone to have a good time. In fact, since Connor so loves tormenting others, I could make a fairly strong argument that I succeeded quite well."
"Finally, the fourth charge, the most serious, and yet the most amusing of them all is of Assassination..."

At that moment, Cassandra comes in, and Erethiel turns to her, smiling
"Cassandra! You're here! How did you know? Nevermind, I suppose it does not really matter. Can you help me? I have apparently slandered Connor's "good reputation" by calling him a thief of magic, despite witnesses thinking it was a compliment, I had unlicensed magical items, Trying to help Connor to have a good time is apparently rather illegal, and it resulted in him attempting to accuse me of assassinating him, as well as trying to get me killed! As for why I am here, apparently Connor had guards placed, waiting to kill me. There was not even an accusation that I had broken any laws before they started shooting. I managed to convince a local woman to help me, but they took her away as well. I don't want to get her, or her children in trouble for helping me."

@Xander
No reason for him to know that I know you, so please play along? Dantie asked you to help me, which is how you knew with absolute truth that I was in trouble. Of course, no need to mention that he did not tell you to do so until you were in the courtroom
@Dantie
In the interest of letting everyone tell the truth, will you please tell Xander that I am in trouble, and to see if he can help me?

"Xander, thank you for coming when you did. Hopefully, this will end well for all involved."
After a momentary pause
"Well, all but one, anyway"

Yes, you can hear the quotations around the good reputation

@The Party: Calchis looks at the women in the cortroom.

"Cassandra! Be so kind to disperse your employers and send them back to your establishment. I am very tired and do not wish to move charges to you and your entire establishment for intruding in a trial. You may, as legal employer to Lady Erethiel, stay."

Connor looks at her.

"What insult is this to have courtesans for hire in the hallowed grounds of St. Cuthbert's temple! Guards! Escort these women of ill repute outside... preferably through the back door."

Cassandra looks at her girls and addresses a tall half orc woman.

"Wendy, please lead the girls back to the inn."

She then looks at Connor and smiles.

"We may have an ill repute, your Grace. If by ill repute you mean relkeasing our tired men from worries and stress. Ever considered paying us a visit? You may like the backdoor as well."

Connor stands and his face goes red.

"Watch your words, wench! Know your place!"

Cassandra bows.

"Oh, I know my place, your Grace. I must wonder if many here do as well."

The women leave, leaving Cassandra alone in the courtroom with all of you.

"Father calchis. I have here a document that shows that Lady Silver Dream is my rightful employee as well as a letter signed by his Majesty himself, stating that my Place of Work is legal. Please take a look at it."

Calchis is handed the document and blushes.

"This smells of perfume."

Cassandra smiles.

"Eau du Amour, your excellency. His Majesty's favorite perfume."

Calchis clears his throat as Connor slumps in his chair, arms crossed.

"Well, seeing that it bears the royal seal and that it does have King Airdan's own handwriting, I see no reason to declare your establishment illegal. I will ask, however, for Lady Erethiel's work papers to be transferred to evidence for further scrutiny. A mere formality."

Cassandra looks at Connor and then at you.

"Of course. They are perfectly legal. I will have to ask for the king's decree for my establsihment back, if you please?"

Calchis hands her the scented papers back.

"Very well, then. In light of finishing this case as quickly as possible, I will now pass sentence based on all evidence presented here today."

"Lady Erethiel, in the charges of possession of unrecognized items of power, you are found guilty. Your items will be confiscated until sunrise tomorrow while they are properly doicumented. At which point you may come and pick them up. There will be a fee for retrieval, but it should not be devastatingly high."

"Lady Erethiel, in the charges of slander. This court finds you innocent. You have called His Grace a name that has brought him harm to his... good name. However, I see nothing as extraordinary as warranting an extreme sentence. An apology right here would be all that is required."

Calchis then pauses as he reviewes his notes.

"Lady Erethiel, in the charge against attempted assassination, this court finds you innocent. There are no bodies here to signify as such."

Finally, Calchis read the last charge.

"Lady erethiel, for the charges of illegal use of magic. In this case a suggestion spell. This court finds you guilty. You are to spend reflecting on these actions until sunrise in the Cuthbertine Cell in the temple. You will then be allowed to walk free. You will also be given a book on the laws in Halmathan, so that these mistakes are not repeated. Please give it a good read."

Father Calchis slams the gavel on the marble podium once.

"This trial is finished. Guards, please escort Lady erethiel to a cell. Thank you all for your assistance and now I must retire. I have much to prepare for my own journey. Your Grace, the chair is yours again."

Glad that Cassandra had came to help her out, Erethiel seems somewhat happier, but she is rather worried about the outcome of the trial. However, as Connor attempts to bait Cassandra, Erethiel is unable to suppress a laugh, no doubt to Connor's regret. As the sentence is read, Erethiel feels what could almost be described as nervousness. Of course, not quite, but close.
"How high is devastatingly high? I am not exactly wealthy."

"An apology? But of course! Connor, I apologize for attempting to improve your reputation. You would rather keep it as it is, and I should respect that."
She smiles broadly at Connor as she speaks.

"You will provide me housing, free of charge? There are many who would pay quite highly for such a privilege. I trust that you will see to my security, since I am apparently not allowed to cast spells, and you are stripping me of my items."

As Calchis moves to slam his Gavel on the marble Podium, Erethiel once more asks him a question.
"Say, can I accuse Connor of attempted assassination? After all, he did attempt to declare me guilty of a capitol crime with no chance to defend myself, and he also apparently had guards set up to shoot me on sight."

AlanBruce

@Erethiel: Calchis, who is already getting up from the judge chair, looks at you and raises an eyebrow.

"You may attempt to press charges on his Grace once your sentence is finished, tomorrow."

Father Calchis leaves the room and Connor takes the judge chair as he clutches his hands around the arm rests, clearly enjoying being back where he belongs.

"Cassandra, you are ordered to leave this Courtroom effective immediately. Guards! Escort this woman out of the premises."

Cassandra looks at Connor, then at you.

"I wish to have the fine for her charges sent to my establishment. She is under my care. I care for my own."

Cassandra looks at you and does a quick sign language.

You're working double shift tomorrow night.

@Xander & Dantie: Connor looks at both of you.

"It would seem my initial assesment was right. You won't have to prepare last rites for this one, much less a last meal, Dantie Silva."

he then looks at Xander.

"I would watch who yiou surround yourself with, Xander Corillian. Being appointed a Champion does carry a certain position in the city. And I would not like to have such a title bestowed by me soiled by your choice of company."

@Erethiel: Connor looks at you from his judge chair.

"We are not without mercy, half fey. Even to those whho blatantly break the laws. You will be hiused here tonight, under Cuthbertine watch. I would suggest you read the book that awaits you in your cell."

Connor then looks at the guards.

As Cassandra offers to take care of the charges, Erethiel's eyes widen in surprise at the unexpected offer. Unable to move her hands, she can only reply telepathically.

Thank you, Cassandra. For everything. I will be there, if I can.

As the guards approach Erethiel, she looks to Connor
"Surely the great grand inquisitor can heal the one injured at his false accusation? Or are such arts beyond him?"

AlanBruce
2013-04-09, 09:06 PM
@Erethiel: Connor leans forward on his judge chair.

"I will not soil my hands healing the damned. You will be given ample rest in your cell, as well as adequate nourishment. Take this one away. I tire of her presence and voice."

The guards unlock the foot restraints and one carries you and puts you on a wooden platform with wheels beneath and a handle behind as one places the leather strap around your mouth. You are then taken out of the Amphitheater of Truth and to a lower level, where a cell awaits you with a bunk bed and a heavy book.

As the guards go to place the leather strap in her mouth, Erethiel sighs
"Is that really needed?"
[roll0] diplo

Once she arrives in the cell, and(hopefully) is set free from the bindings, Erethiel waits until the guards leave before re-casting nondetection, and using detect magic to take a look around the small room, wondering what sort of unpleasant traps were left for her.

@Erethiel: You are wheeled in and one of the guards produces a set of pristine manacles which he places around your ankles.

You feel similar to when the man in red cast on you.

Another one unbinds your hands and places a set on your hands. Then, they remove the leather strap, leaving your wings bound, but able to move about, if somewhat clumsilly.

"Standard procedure. Can't have casters in jail without proper protection. Supper will be sent shortly. Enjoy the book."

The guards slam the door and you hear the clicking of a key behind it.

The room is small and windowless. It is ten by ten, with a ten foot ceiling. The place has a single torch on the wall, the filthy bed, and the book.

As the adrenaline of the trial wears off, Erethiel once more feels the staggering pain of her wounds, struggling to stand for a moment, before giving up, and slumping to the floor. She considers picking the locks on the manacles, but she would be unable to get the one on her hand in any event, so not much point in trying. That leaves her with the book, the torch, and the bed. Shivering slightly from the chill of the stone, she experimentally opens the book, intending to see what to make of it.

AlanBruce

@Erethiel: You sit warily on the filthy crusty bed and open the book to see what this virtuoso of literature has to say.

Fellow citizen, It is an honor for my words to be the first you read upon opening this most hallowed book.

Halmthan is a city of change, but it must always observe one thing above everything else: The Law.

It is the implementation of the many rules and regulations contained in this text that define who a true Halmathan is from the uncivilized and ultimately the unfit to live in a city as diverse as ours. One must always follow the Law. One must always be vigilant of those that would not follow it. To stand idle while chaos runs rampant is a crime as big if not bigger than breaking the laws and promoting chaos itself.

As Grand Inquisitor and Most Exalted High Priest of the Church of the Cudgel, I present upon you, page by page, the laws that define you, citizen. The Laws that make this city what it is today.

For, to not observe these laws, would make us no better than the animals that scurry about on the fringes of great and glorious Halmathan.

Ever Observant,

Grand Inquisitor Connor of the Cudgel

What follows are the most ridiculous laws that anyone could ever observe. All preceded by a number.

Some that jump out to you the most.

Public Festivities are outright banned, unless promoted by a High ranking official of the Law.

Regsitration required and particular taxation to elves.

Curfews that begin before midnight

The use of the color black, unless it is the rightful color for a man of a particular station, like Inquisitors.

The list goes on.

Connor coming from the Free city I have many friends all over the world and the planes. Some even in different churches that would not be expected. You see though Tarith had his problems, stealing being one of them, he had a knack for making very useful friends. Dantie says to him kindly. Many of them I still keep in contact with and one of them has just told me your laws have just been broken again. Teleportaion magic this time. Dantie says bowing to him. It seems this city is in more trouble then what it was when first we arrived as there is now a cloaked man in red who is outright disobeying your laws and putting its citizens in danger. I would help you find him but I have to prepare for the travels ahead. Dantie says before replying to Xander mentally what he was asked to.

Once the trial is done and Connor is once again in his chair Dantie bows as he is about to exit. Your visions to the future elude me Connor, it seems you also have a gift. May it serve you well in the hunt for the man who has broken three of your laws this day. Xander shall we? Dantie says exiting the room of truth and heading back to the temple of Pelor. "I find it very dissapointing, Dantie Silva, that you would've stuck your neck for that ruffian and blatant law breaker. As to you having friends in the Outer Planes, I can assure you, the Church of St. Cuthbert has its fair share of allies."

Regarding the man who has broken the laws of magic in Halmthan, a guard comes in and bows.

"Your Grace, we climbed to the top of the temple, but could find no one. What are your orders?"

Connor leans back on his chair.

"Have the city guard handle this. I am certain Captain Wulfur and his men will be more than capable of finding this miscreant."

The guard clears his throat.

"Your Grace, Captain Wulfur was dealing with a...monster earlier today. In the Merchant District. They have apparently dealt with the threat."

Connor ponders on the news.

"Have Caoptain Wulfur brought here. I will want a fully detailed account of what transpired. You see Dantie Silva? It is because of people like Erethiel that more important matters, such as the city's safety are put on jeopardy."

As Connor comment son Tarith Dantie simply shrugs his shoulders After being trained by so many orders you learn to accept some people for the way they are. As I stated before when he was with us Tariths skills were always useful. Dantie says before adding. As For the church having allies I have no doubt, but I am not a church but a single man. There is a large difference between the two High Inquisitor. Just like there is a difference between calling a creature to serve and asking one for help. It is why I almost always use the later, as the first one makes it so that they have to do what you ask of them. Dantie says making it a point to make it known that he refused to rule threw telling people what they had to do and instead expected society to fix itself up with only a gentle nudge here and there.

But jut because one person acts a certain way dose not mean all do. You can not judge a race or even a group of people on the actions of one. That is genocide Connor, and I would not wish that on anyone. Hurting the innocent and punishing them for stuff they have little to no control over is what makes people evil Connor. And I know you are not an evil man. I look at the people as sheep and without a shepherded they get lost or worst, we most protect the sheep threw enlightenment and understanding and I believe if it had been done at a more...shall we say acceptable place her antics would have brought much joy and happiness to this city. It would show them your kinder side, the side that shows mercy Connor. After all there is no harm in simple illusions and fireworks to give the children a good show and things to do when not in school. Dantie says kindly to the high Inquisitor, hoping to impart wisdom onto him.

Once back at the temple and Farther Jace greets them Dantie looks at the high priest in shock. Everything has gone well yes high farther, but I thought you needed sometime? I was thinking that perhaps to gain a stronger eye on Connor we could have one of our own at the trials they call each day to perform last rights and bring them there last meal. that way if something seems amiss we can speak out and call into question his judgement. In this last case it took high Inquisitor Calais stepping in to make the trial fair, and once it was the man still tried to twist the truth. I am not sure how he is still one of the cudgels priests. If I were the cudgel I would have smitten himself long ago. Dantie says to Jace as they walk.

Teleporting into the temple, Clover dismissed her invisibility. "Considering how many powerful clerics are within the city, there is little divine intervention going on." @Dantie: You face Connor with the truth. That, in the end, no matter how much power a man may wield, it is but one man. And that such power should not be used with prejudice and hatred. All races, although diverse in their own ways, are equal under the eyes of the gods. And who is to say one race is better than the one standing next to them?

Connor listens to your words of wisdom and is about to reply when he clutches the judge chair with one hand and clutches his chest with the other. One of the clerics rushes by his side while he looks at you.

"Thank you, Father Silva. His Grace must've had a long and arduous day. We will escort him to his chambers for rest. Father delpinian, please overlook the hearing when captain Wulfur arrives."

Connor, breathing heavily, eyes at you as he is lead upstairs and out the Amphitheater of Truth.

Once in the Pelorite Temple. Jace invites you to take a seat.

"I have considered your tale earlier, Dantie. I am certain your time here in Halmathan will be short, unless you want to be a permanent resident. If that is the case... I would like to appoint you as High Father here once your business is concluded. I will be taking a voyage east. I plan on freeing my father."

@Clover: Jace looks at you with a grim expression.

"I have spoken to Wilhelm. Clover, there seems to be some turmoil in the Cuthbertine church in Justcrown. He says the Head Inquisitor has begun patrolling the city. Apparently something is terribly wrong. He did have a chance to look at the archives and the grave of Haythan Kenway..."

Jace pauses.

"The archives show that indeed, Haythan Kenway was tried and hanged years ago. However, his grave was just recently dug and his remains taken."
