1) Most adults know where babies come from.
2) Frank, direct discussion of this process is difficult and rare, even when everyone within hearing range is an adult. If you know what I mean, you know what I'm talking about, the thing you do with your wife...
3) According to Tarquin, if the heroes (or readers, as someone pointed out in the forum) of the story don't know about something important, it will be spoken of in hints and suggestions.
Concclusion: The heroes (or maybe readers) of our story don't know the truth about the birds and the bees. If it's the readers, it's likely that we're in a children's story. Not sure how the numerous wars we're involved in work into this. If the ignorant party is a hero, then he or she is also likely a child. Things may well get fun soon, when [s]he becomes a teenager and starts saving the world.

I;m not sure what you are getting at. The comic has openly talked about sexual activities before. Roy and Celia get it on, Elan and Haley get it on (heck we see her stick figure only covered by her hair). Heck, Elan was about to seduce a bandit queen

So...every reader of OotS is married to a woman? I seem to have missed something in the website TOS.

If anybody doesn't want theirs, I'm open to the idea of having a few extras. Just as long as their intended husband is willing to pay for their upkeep, and they're all at least reasonably good looking.

I think you are not addressing what Kish pointed out:
Not everyone has a wife because:
a) They might have no significant other at all
b) They might be female themselves (even if they have a gf, it is usually not called a "wife"; and even if it was, doing to her "what you do with your wife" does not end in babies)
c) They might have a gf, but she is not a wife
d) They might be male, but their significant other is also male
e) They might live in some sort of polygamous setup, what/who is "your wife" in that context?
f) Would you consider Tsukiko's Wights (Undead, let us call this "Object Fetish" for now) to be "her Wife"?

Did I miss an option?

Here's another thing. Start of Darkness, page 84, panel 1.

A presentation of "IT!"

Horrible! Yet beautiful! Confusing and disturbing to a child! Another, more adventurously-minded child, thinks it's awesome. And it makes one guy puke.

They all went to a wholesome, family-friendly circus show, and saw SEX!

And of course, the protagonists aren't aware of its nature.

MiTD's fabled strength is just the Power of Love.

587 "What to Expect When You're Expecting Assasins" (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0587.html) has a pretty frank description of what happens when an egg's perimeter is breached ... it's really one of the best pregnant-lady comics ever!

So, the bad news is, we are characters in a story, and we are constantly observed.
The good new is, all the kinky stuff we do happens off screen, so we don't have to worry about being watcched.

I just hope our story does not turn out to be a catastrophic one. I would like for it to be a porn movie, but no chance of that - we wouldn't use indirect language in that case.

There actually was NO description of what happens, except a vague hint that it makes you pregnant.

Yeah, there are hints scattered all over the comic. Good luck putting them all together, and getting something that even resembles the truth just based on that.

It's foreshadowing. So there will be a big reveal sooner or later.

One persons "vague hint" is another persons description.

Seriously: What other major fantasy explains where "babbys" come from? not LotR, not The Worm Ourobouros; Robert Jordan drops major hints but doesn't get any more explicit than OOTS ... ok, I'll give you Game Of Thrones.

Basically, the conclusion Concclusion: The heroes (or maybe readers) of our story don't know the truth about the birds and the bees is simply belied by the fact that the pregnant hero of 857 describes details of the process visible only by a microscope. Is it really plausible that she knew about the relevance of her eggs being breached without having any idea where the breacher round came from?

No, you're misunderstanding the post totally, IMO. The OP was supplying a list of possible euphemisms. It was a sampling of euphemisms, and was neither meant to be exhaustive nor to be addressed to the readers of the comic.

The second point, I believe, should be parsed as:

2) Frank, direct discussion of this process is difficult and rare, even when everyone within hearing range is an adult. For example, people might say: "If you know what I mean", or "you know what I'm talking about", or "the thing you do with your wife", or use other, similar phrases...

This argument is called "the fallacy of affirming the conclusion."
If a implies b, and b, then you can't say anything about the truth of a. The converse does not follow.

If the heroes not knowing something means that it's talked about in hushed voices, then the mere fact that something is talked about using metaphors does not mean the heroes don't know about it. More likely, it's just that the comic is following the unwritten rules of polite conversation.

tl;dr: OP confuses cause and effect to try to make a joke. It's not very effective (as evidenced by the general confusion).

I guess it WOULD have been fitting on April 1st, but I didn't thin of that until someone pointed it out. It's just something that seems funny to me. Some time ago, my mom decided to give me some advice about my girlfriend, and this is how she talked. Yes, mom, I DO know what you're talking about, and it won't manifest if you say its name three times.

Can I just get in here for a second to ask what in the name of Nebuchadnezzar this thread is about?!?

I see four reasonable possibilties:

1) Opening poster doesn't understand how sexual reproduction works and is seeking answers.

2) Opening poster is asking if sexual reproduction works the same (or at least, roughly the same) in the OotS-verse as in real life.

3) Opening poster is asking why there isn't frank discusssion or depiction of sexual reproduction in-comic.

4) Opening poster is drunk out of their gourd, or otherwise in some condition that renders them incoherant.

I have no idea which is correct, or even more likely.

I'm not even trying to be facetious here; I know nothing about the opening poster, and it's possible it's a child who no one has told about the birds and the bees yet, and wants us to tell them.

I see four reasonable possibilties:

5) OP suggests that what Tarquin said about "talking openly about things that not uncovered to the heroes" (9th panel (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0882.html)) is true, and sexual reproduction should be one of these uncovered truths, because it's never directly mentioned (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0587.html)in the comic. So, heroes of this story must be children, because only children are unaware about sexual reproduction. If that's true, then readers of this comic must be children as well, bacause of Elan's similar theory about planning (9th panel again! (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0836.html)) and tropes about children (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KidHero). (children heroes belongs to children stories!)
